Great story, very creepy!

Eliza61 · 19 August 2022 · Chapter 7

Wow, what a great chapter, very interesting that it was so suspenseful without an actual enemy around. I could feel Elladan's frustration. Well done and thank you

Author's reply

Thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed it. Yes, I imagine that the sons of Elrond have more theory than practice in dealing with Nazgul, and that would cause quite a bit of frustration in someone so used to being skilled and competent….

shirebound · 17 August 2022 · Chapter 7

Elladan scowled. “I am unaccustomed to being out of my depth in matters of field healing - long has it been since a challenge has presented itself to which I felt so unequal.” “One might be glad of that, my Lord,” Halbarad huffed softly, “considering such a lack means Nazgûl have been few and far between in these lands.” So true! Your details are wonderful, and this story most definitely brings rich new meaning to Aragorn's urgent words to the hobbits... and his fear and horror at the thought of confronting the Nazgul once again. Well done!

Thank the Lord, the cavalry to the rescue. Whew PSW, you need a warning for these last few chapters. brilliant!

Author's reply

Thank you! I’m happy you’re enjoying it. :-) One more chapter, I think — less stressful than these past few!

shirebound · 16 June 2022 · Chapter 6

Whew, hope at last! This is so suspenseful.

Author's reply

:-D Happy you’re enjoying it! And yes - finally something good!

periannore · 31 May 2022 · Chapter 4

Either Aragorn is in a kind of nightmare or time loop or I'm missing something. phrases like: and the cold that he had thought all-consuming seemed suddenly a distant warmth. and tip of a sword whispered at his neck. were in chapter 4 but unlike 4 I think Aragorn's caring for a single elf, not two so each repetition has changes. In this chapter he hears his name so again you leave us wondering who is addressing him and why and what about the sword point at his neck? In my case I'm also relieved that I'm not trapped in such a hopeless dream. Oh, the many forms of evil!

Author's reply

Nightmare time loop it is! Ah, the Black Breath — a good time for all … Thx again for your comments!

periannore · 31 May 2022 · Chapter 4

"The great crown turned toward him, and black fear drove all else from his mind. He flung himself onto the tiles, dragging his frozen cloak over him to escape the dark King’s notice." How sad that Aragorn is swamped with self doubt. He's panicked and frozen in place at the same time. Knowing the Dark King is looking at him he covers himself, flimsy protection that is no protection at all like a turtle or flamingo! With a sword tip at his neck you ended not only with a cliff hanger but with Aragorn defeated and hopeless. Aragorn appears unable to save himself. Who will save him? It's thrilling that in these days of very slowly trickling fanfiction you are updating so regularly. LOTR fanfiction hangs but on a thread and if you don't keep it going, no one will! No pressure. :)

Author's reply

Lol — got it! :-D Thx for your comments, they’re much appreciated!

shirebound · 29 May 2022 · Chapter 4

Eeee, such suspense! Whether the journey lasted five minutes or five millennia he could not say To go through something like this would be an unforgettable, life-changing experience.

Author's reply

Yes — you’d figure it would have to be something pretty memorable to draw his comment to the Hobbits in Bree all those years later! Thx as always for reading! :-)

Ellynn · 29 May 2022 · Chapter 3

So dark and scary - good work!

Author's reply

Thanks! Happy you're enjoying. :-)

Kate · 23 May 2022 · Chapter 3

Very excited to read a new chapter! Very chilling. Looking forward to reading what happens next

shirebound · 23 May 2022 · Chapter 3

The sky, the stars, Anor and Ithil – they were no more. Perhaps they had never been. How easy it would be to lose sanity, and all hope, in such a situation. *shivers*

Author's reply

Yes — agreed. The black breath just sounds terrible … Thx for reading!

periannore · 23 May 2022 · Chapter 3

During his first conversation with Frodo, Sam and Pippin Aragorn mentions that he knows about the Nazgûl. I wonder if he's referring to his encounter with them in your story? Things look so grim. You did wonderfully with your description of Aragorn's battle with the inertia of the black breath. I can only read on knowing Aragorn will survive for LOTR. I'm worried about Elrohir and Daelin. As I read any fiction I automatically Project what might happen next. In this case I'm wondering if Halbarad, Dorhaur and Elladan will arrive to help or, if they arrived first and were similarly attacked. Oh no! You've worked up a gripping head of suspense. Write on.

Thank you! Glad you’re enjoying — all will be answered in due time. ;-) Thx so much for your comments!

Your writing is so compelling! Looking forward to reading more

Author's reply

Thank you! I’m looking forward to writing more! (And hopefully in the not too distant future … ;-)

Lindelea · 2 December 2021 · Chapter 2

I have long pondered the quoted passage. They are terrible! What a marvellous gap-filler this is! I am eager to read on.

Author's reply

Thank you! So am I! :-D Things are slowing down a bit finally — fingers crossed that I will finally have time to get this all put together — it’s been swimming around in my head for ages …

Larner · 20 October 2021 · Chapter 2

A terrible encounter. A nasty business, fighting naxzgul.

Author's reply

Indeed. Not something with which anyone would want to be suddenly faced …

Larner · 20 October 2021 · Chapter 1

You have set the mood well. Not a fit night on which to visit Weathertop, I'd say.

demeter d · 17 October 2021 · Chapter 2

Wow! That lack of ability to move, and the sky becomming nothing but inky blackness sounds like Merry when found on the road in Bree. It also has echoes of the blackness that Faramir, Eowyn and Merry wandered in after the battle on the Pellenor. But now, how long do they lay there in weakness? Who will come rescue them?

Author's reply

Thx! Yes, I can’t imagine the consequences of getting to near a Nazgul would be pleasant. Hopefully it won’t be too long before they’re found — the sooner the better, for sure.

shirebound · 17 October 2021 · Chapter 2

This whole scene is masterfully described. How easy you make it to now understand Aragorn's fierce attack on the Nazgul with the flaming brand when the hobbits were under attack on Weathertop.

Author's reply

Thank you! Yes, you’d think he’s somehow need some previous experience to know not to go right for his usual weapons …

Ellynn · 9 October 2021 · Chapter 1

Good start, you describe the dark scary atmosphere very well. Looking forward for more.

Author's reply

Thank you, I’m happy you’re enjoying it so far! :-)

Sandalf13 · 7 October 2021 · Chapter 1

Outstanding story! I appreciate your bringing one of your former characters - Daelin - into this new story. Such an inclusion adds a bit of continuity to your work. Thank you for a good read, and I am very glad that you are continuing to write for Stories of Arda. Speaking of which: I have written to Stories of Arda requesting info on how to publish stories through the Stories of Arda site. I have received NO replies whatsoever. I do have a penname and a login i.d. and password, but have not gotten any further. Can you direct me to a place where I can get some info on how to get started? Thank you very much.

Author's reply

Thanks! And yes — figured I had the OCs, might as well use them…. I don’t really know … sorry! The only idea I have is to try emailing again, that’s the only method of communication I know for the site, so I’m not really any help.

shirebound · 6 October 2021 · Chapter 1

Some weight presses upon these lands That's such a perfect way to describe what he's sensing. I'm looking forward to more!

Author's reply

Thank you! Hopefully the next chapter isn’t too far away … :-)
