Larner · 28 March 2021 · Chapter 24: The Moment of Joy

Definitely a moment to be treasured in memory forever. And one spent with the woman he'd come to love more than any other.

Author's reply

Larner! Thanks! I wanted to write a drabble in honor of March 25 and this just popped into my head. I have always loved the passages concerning Minas Tirith and the Eagles bringing Joy to the White City. And I really love writing about Faramir and Éowyn being happy! Stay Safe! MM

shirebound · 25 March 2021 · Chapter 24: The Moment of Joy

He held his precious one gently in his arms That's a lovely image.

Author's reply

Shirebound! Thanks! I have the image from the ROTK EE where David Wenham is gently holding Miranda Otto in the Houses of Healing. All warm and fuzzy feels! Stay Safe Mellon Nin! ((hugs)) MM

shirebound · 25 March 2021 · Chapter 23: A few moments by the sea

She looked out to the open water allowing it to fill her soul. This she would take with her. To him. That's very lovely, and quite moving.

Author's reply

Shirebound! Thanks! I was just imagining what would it like to leave the seaside that you have known all your life and travel to another life. As you can probably tell I do love the ocean. Thanks for taking the time to write! Stay Safe, Mellon nin! (((hugs))) MM

Lindelea · 25 March 2021 · Chapter 23: A few moments by the sea

Does she see the sea in Éomer’s eyes in quiet moments in Rohan, I wonder? Does she hear the steady murmur of the waves in his breathing as she watches him sleep? ((hugs)) May this find you and yours well.

Author's reply

Lindelea! What a lovely image! I will say yes, she does! I like it!! ((hugs)) MM

Lindelea · 25 March 2021 · Chapter 24: The Moment of Joy

Ohhhhh. I absolutely adore the addition of the forget-me-not here. It’s perfect.

Author's reply

I do like writing drabbles! And March 25 and Forget-me-nots (which was the Tolkien Weekly challenge) just dovetailed nicely! Glad you liked it! ((hugs)) MM

Larner · 29 November 2020 · Chapter 23: A few moments by the sea

A fine gift she takes with her to her new life. Thank you for this series.

Author's reply

Larner! You're welcome. I did really like now this series of drabbles turned out. I love the sea and imagined that Lothiriel would have a strong connection to it but her love for Eomer would be stronger. And unlike her unfortunate Aunt Finduilas she would thrive away from her seaside home. Eomer would love her all the long days of his life. Thanks for all the reviews today. So happy you liked my drabbles! Hope you and your family are safe and well. Stay Safe, Mellon Nin! ((hugs)) MM

Larner · 29 November 2020 · Chapter 22: In the end...there were bubbles!

Ah, but bubbles would bring out that reaction in most children. Lovely, both the bath and the "helping" that led to it.

Author's reply

Larner! I should write more stories of Thranduil and a young Legolas! I always feel there is much joy and love there! Thanks for reading and writing! MM

Larner · 29 November 2020 · Chapter 21: Within the Caves...Joy!

Oh, but to see such things through the eyes of one's friend is the greatest gift of appreciation.

Author's reply

Larner! Exactly! And the friendship between Legolas and Gimli is such a special one. Thanks for writing! MM

Larner · 29 November 2020 · Chapter 20: Beginnings

Heh! Love both of the drabbles, both the butterflies--or is it fell beasts? and the close shaves. Delightful!

Author's reply

Larner! Thanks! I do love to write drabbles. And writing about Eowyn and Faramir being happy makes me happy!! MM

eliza · 29 June 2020 · Chapter 22: In the end...there were bubbles!

lol, lovely chapter and what kid can resist bubbles. thanks for the giggles.

Author's reply

Eliza! Glad you liked it! the Tolkien challenge word was "clean" with lead to me thinking squeaky clean and little mischievous Legolas in a bubblebath sprung to mind! LOL!! thanks for writing! MM

Ellynn · 11 June 2020 · Chapter 21: Within the Caves...Joy!

This is wonderful!

Author's reply

Ellynn! Thanks! So glad you liked it! :-)) Stay safe! MM

Larner · 3 June 2020 · Chapter 19: A Necessary Bath

And all of the interesting mishaps were named "Estel"? Poor child! But he would keep things interesting.

Author's reply

Larner! Well at least it seemed like that to Gilraen....and probably Elrond as well. LOL! I always get the feeling that by the time Estel came to live in Imladris there were no other or at least very few other children. So one small curious child = many mishaps or disruptions to the ordered life of Rivendell. LOL! Thanks for writing! MM

Larner · 13 May 2020 · Chapter 18: This is home

Oh, I can appreciate the feeling. And so was Imladris founded.

Author's reply

Larner! Exactly! We all need a haven like Imladris! Thanks for taking the time to write! Stay safe. MM

Ellynn · 13 May 2020 · Chapter 18: This is home

I'm sure it must have been a special feeling when he saw the valley for the first time. Well done!

Author's reply

Ellynn! Exactly! They were beaten down and injured having lost any presence in Eregion. They needed healing! Thanks for writing! Stay safe! MM

Lindelea · 8 May 2020 · Chapter 17: Woodland Joy

Your mention of Thranduil's losses made me suddenly think of my uncle, who was a medic at the Battle of the Bulge. They said he didn't speak a word for a full six months after getting home from the war. ((hugs)) stay safe.

Author's reply

Lindelea! War affects the mind in some very tragic and traumatic ways. It really tests the human spirit. I always have found it very moving that Elves can die of grief or from having too many traumatic emotions weighing on their spirit. Their spirits are can be so damaged that they can simply fade away. ((hugs)) stay safe, mellon nin! MM

Ellynn · 8 May 2020 · Chapter 17: Woodland Joy

nice! :)

Author's reply

Ellynn! So glad you liked it! A happy Thranduil. A rare sighting! MM

Lindelea · 7 May 2020 · Chapter 17: Woodland Joy

I had a sudden mental picture of Legolas's arrival being like the coming of the spring leaves to the barren winter trees. One day, the sky is grey and blustery, and the bare trees rear above like skeletons against the sky, seeming dead and desolate. And then the next day, the sky is blue, and the new leaves (or perhaps their buds?), barely emerged, appear to edge the treetops in fine lace. Alas, poor Thranduil. That campaign where so many heroes died (including Orophin) must have scarred his mind and heart forever after. I'm glad that Legolas could bring joy and some kind of healing. (hugs) hope this finds you well.

Author's reply

Lindelea! I love that image. And I do think that Legolas is central to Thranduil's heart. Thranduil lost his father and two-thirds of his army. I do his life experiences have seriously scarred him. Legolas is his joy. And as I said to Larner, At least this once Thranduil gets to be happy and at peace. I am well. Hope you are as well. Stay safe. ((hugs)) MM

Larner · 7 May 2020 · Chapter 17: Woodland Joy

Most sweet!

Author's reply

For once Thranduil gets to be happy! :-))

Larner · 7 May 2020 · Chapter 16: Fathers and Sons: Pippin and Farry

My kid is a recovering addict, and I remember the pain felt when we had to force him to face the consequences of his choices when he was high. Oh, yes, I understand Pippin's feelings here.

Author's reply

Most definitely. Happy to hear he is a recovering addict. Hard road. My Brother-in-law is as well. MM.

demeter d · 3 May 2020 · Chapter 16: Fathers and Sons: Pippin and Farry

I have been home more this last month, slow at work, as have many of us.So I have been re-reading many older works as well as new posts. You have indeed done her characters perfect justice. I can not ever imagine our Pippin growing into a father whose children did not know he loved them, even in times of trouble!

Author's reply

Demeter d! Thank you so much for taking the time to write! And thank you for your kind word about the drabbles. I really thought about what to write in these drabbles hoping that I could make the words sound true to Lindelea's characterisations, so yeah! :-)) MM

Lindelea · 3 May 2020 · Chapter 16: Fathers and Sons: Pippin and Farry

Oh, those dreams where you feel like your shouting at the top of your voice, and it comes out as a whisper, or the person you're shouting at doesn't seem to be able to hear you! ...juxtaposed with the reality (and relief) of rescue at the end. Nicely done! And the second, from the father's perspective... the deep love, in the face of terrible consequences for a young boy's careless actions. I don't think Farry ever doubted his parents' love, and even when he laid plans to run away, it was because he knew his parents loved him, and not the opposite. Thanks so much for letting me see these scenes through your eyes. ((hugs)) Stay safe!

Author's reply

Lindelea! Hello! So happy that you liked the drabbles I worried about doing your characterizations justice! Stay safe ((hugs)) MM

Larner · 30 April 2020 · Chapter 15: Fathers and Sons

How I can appreciate how difficult it was to stop with but one vignette at this prompt. Especially love the final one, as Sam hears Frodo's laughter echoing in that of his son! Most appropriate, the entire series.

Author's reply

Larner! Thanks! I wrote the first two and more just begged to written. The little plot bunnies just kept nipping at me until I had done. That bit where Sam thinks of Frodo laughing, the scene from Fellowship in the beginning at Bilbo's 111st birthday and Frodo is laughing when I think Sam is dancing with Rosie Cotton! Yep! Thanks again for writing~ MM

Larner · 30 April 2020 · Chapter 14: Nothing would be the same

And, oh, so changed he will be after tonight. He is learning far more seriously than Bilbo, that the choice to set foot outside the door is more than merely dangerous--it is frankly perilous!

Lindelea · 29 April 2020 · Chapter 15: Fathers and Sons

I found myself tearing up several times in the reading. Poor Elrond, to have to watch a succession of short-lived descendants of his brother. And the contrast between the father Faramir experienced and the father he is obviously striving to be. And Thranduil, who finds in his son a reason to go on in the face of his mourning for his father. And Sam's thoughts at the end... So true. ((hugs)) I hope this finds you well!

Author's reply

Lindelea! The plot bunnies for the father and son drabbles just kinda would not let me rest until I had them written. I always feel for Elrond. With all that he has given and all that he had lost in the service of Middle Earth. Watching his brother's decendants grow old and die and coming to love Aragorn as his own son. It is heartbreaking. I really wanted to show the contrast between Faramir as a son and as a father. All that he suffered would NOT be visited on his son. Poor Thranduil, He loses his father and he lives on for his son. I truly do think that Legolas is what anchored him in Middle Earth rather than dying and going to the Halls of Mandos to be with his father and wife. Sam, dear Sam, or as your wonderful Bill, calls him, My Sam. Frodo remains in his heart. I wanted to write one for Thain Pippin and young Farry, borrowing your characterizations but I hadn't asked your permission first. So I haven't written it yet. Thanks for writing! Keep well, mellon nin! ((hugs)) MM

Larner · 28 April 2020 · Chapter 13: A Moment in the Shire

Oh, such wonderful memories she was will carry, with the blessings earned by her husband and Frodo.

Author's reply

Yup! A nice simple drabble about the little moments in life that matter most. MM Author Reply: Larner! Thanks for all the lovely reviews. Very much appreciated. Stay safe Mellon nin! ((hugs)) MM
