Love this chapter so much. After all these years, i'm revisiting this fic because i do wonder what would happen if Frodo himself was brought to Barad-dur.

Wow! An excellent story! You kept me so enthralled! hope Frodo gets taken to the black gate and gets to see Gandalf, Aragorn and the rest! Please don’t keep us in suspense!!!!! POST SOON!!!
Elanor Silmariën · 12 December 2005 · Chapter 7: the Memories of a Lifetime
What, no more yet?!! I have been on the edge of my seat since chapter one! This is really good. I have always wondered what happened to Frodo in Cirith Ungol! I like that he told the mouth he was a brandybuck, not entirely a lie! Keep it up! Elanor : )
Starfire_Moonlight · 15 July 2005 · Chapter 7: the Memories of a Lifetime
Poor Frodo. The MoS has done put a collar and chain on him, like a dog. I can't imagin what the Fellowship members will say when they see their friend like this! Acutually, I can't wait to see what they will say when the MoS does get Frodo to the Black Gate. Please, oh please write more soon! Pretty Pwease :(
Andrea · 10 July 2005 · Chapter 7: the Memories of a Lifetime
Wow! I just admire Frodo's courage! Despite the horrible situation he was in, he used all his wits to convice Sauron's mouth, that he's not the Ringbearer. Apparently, he succeded. And now he believes, he's going to his death and he manages to do so with his head held high. Frodo's attempt to recall his good memories from the Shire, leaving him only with the bad ones, was very vivid - up to the iron collar with the chain, that reminded him of farmer Maggot's dogs. I think Sauron's Mouth is bringing him to the Black Gates now? I'm curious to know, what will happen next. Great story! Keep on writing and take your time, this story is worth waiting for :)
Starfire_Moonlight · 14 January 2005 · Chapter 6: Frodo Brandybuck
Please write more!!! This is such a good story(though I feel terribly sorry for the Ring-Bearer, I want to know how this is going to end). Keep the writing coming!!! :D
Periantari · 9 January 2005 · Chapter 6: Frodo Brandybuck
omigosh--the torture is horrible! :*( i think i rather have beatings than hot stones and the stretching machine. eeek~!! :*( tears indeed for poor Frodo. =( But you had Frodo ever so clever and it was funny that you mentioned this line: "Frodo just mentally rolled his eyes at that. Orcs were unbelievably stupid. Telling a prisoner they were bound to die was the last way to acquire information." hehe sounds like something you would think too. :P i really like the fact that you worked on the Elizabethan English that MoS had to say..very credible and wonderful detail. no more Frodo torture please? =( i was so scared to read this chapter just because of that... awww poor Frodo :*( but it's cool that you didn't linger on describing the pain ...that would be very sad and probably will up the ratings a bit. Frodo was very brave throughout it all though...interesting for you to say that he was anticipating being captured and rehearsed a story to say. Very interesting detail.
Author's reply
I might do just a tad more Frodo torture. In connection to the part in Ch.3 when Sauron says to "question" Frodo regarding the sword from the Barrow Downs. But I will certainly tone it down. And the walk to the Black Gate certainly won't be a casual "walk" but no added torture there. I figured if Frodo's planning on going into an Orc-infested place the possibility of capture had to occur to him and he would never want to betray his friends. As for the Elizabethan English? I did it myself in chapter three, but I can't take credit for it in this time around, sorry to say. I recruited FrodoBaggins88 for that and she did it for me over AIM. I did some of it and would ask her if I had gotten it right and then turned the whole thing over to her in the end. I was trying to finish it that night and "translating" to Old English at 2 am isn't something my brain appreciates. Thank you for reading...this chapter especially.
Breon Briarwood · 7 January 2005 · Chapter 6: Frodo Brandybuck
You know, I had written the title of this down a while back as a story I wanted to read and for some reason never got around to it, but... OMG! Poor Frodo! So determined not to let anything slip. Your descriptions are so vivid. I especially like your MoS. I'd never thought about his skin being burned like that due to the proximity of the eye. Really creepy. Hope you can update soon.
Author's reply
As I always say "Better late than never." I really hadn't though of the burning skin part until I was finishing this up. I sort of avoided his description for a while and then figured I couldn't avoid it anymore and it was one of those things that "just occurred to me" and I'm glad it did. I love extra detailed descriptions like that. I usually don't "update soon" but as this is vacation time I'll do my best.

Ah, a bukcket of cold water. Just what I needed. *grabs a towel* Yep, my friend gave me some great ideas, then I realized they weren't consistent with Tolkien's framework and thus, this story again took a back seat on my agenda. But I'll get to it soon, school permitting of course. Thanks again.

Wow! I have you mesmerized - the fifth time around? Could an author ask for a better compliment? I think not. And if you're anxious for an update you need not wait much longer. My friend (whose writing talent is far superior to mine) and I were brainstorming story ideas a few days ago and she gave me some wonderful suggestions - even though she had never read this fic before. Amazing. Thanks for the review. This now makes 73 reviews so far between this site and fanfiction.net *author faints from the shock*
Periantari · 5 May 2004 · Chapter 4: Follow your Heart
It's an interesting idea of how the poison affected Frodo initially..i usually just think that the poison took seconds to affect him and therefore rendered his mind unconscious immediately. Very creative take on what might've happened with the poison as well.. I think i read in another fic that Frodo's thoughts became trapped and therefore he could hear what was happening yet not respond... that is quite scary to write about hehe... very good job, Arwen! and i don't think flashback is bad =)
Author's reply
That's what most people seem to think about the poison, but Tolkien tells us that Frodo heard no more, once Sam's with him and trying to wake him up. He doesn't tell us what happened in Frodo's POV, so that's what I did, same book-scene, different perspective. And I'm glad the flash-back sequence is working. I put the dates at the top of each chapter to clarify confusion, but I was explaining the fic to my mom when it occurred to me, that most people probably can't think in the back-wards mode that I've grown accustomed to! :) It can get VERY confusing.
Periantari · 5 May 2004 · Chapter 1: A Fool's Hope
I really like your characterization of Gandalf and your portrayal of what Gandalf is thinking.. i find it really believable and really like the part where you include the feature of Frodo's Inner light... not many writers focus upon Gandalf and i'm glad that you included the first chapter to incorporate what he may be feeling in terms of thinking about Frodo and Sam. Also very cool in all chapters is the fact that you include quotes from the book =) Very nice idea~
Author's reply
I always got irritated when people would blame Gandalf for Frodo's predicament. Yes, Gandalf is to blame (in part) for Weathertop, because he sent Frodo away for his own good. But Mordor? People seem to forget that Frodo stood up and said "I will take the Ring to Mordor." Frodo WAS NOT elected by the Council. Then Elrond said "(The Ring) is a heavy burden. So heavy that none could lay it on another. I do not lay it on you." The Frodo's Light mentioning is my favorite part, I've re-read that part over and over again trying to understand it. That's where Gandalf's thought came from, the one that said "he didn't pretend to understand all the weapons of the enemy, morgul blades least of all." I have NO idea why something so evil left a mark of Light on him!
Periantari · 5 May 2004 · Chapter 5: To Tell the Truth
you left your readers hanging for three months??? oh my.. you have left poor "Frodo Brandybuck" in quite a fix no question about it..i really can't wait for the next chapter. I really admire your description, the metaphors you use and the dream that Frodo had in the beginning of the chapter was really creative to include. I also really liked Frodo's answers to the orcs... very cool to say that he was *truthful* in some ways... hope writer's block will go away! I look forward to reading more =)
Author's reply
I loved the metaphors too! Especially the one of a thief robbing a treasure chest. I was really proud of that one! :) And I wanted to give people a scare with the chapter title, I can't imagine Frodo telling a lot of convincing lies under torture, so he tells lots of partial truths and the thing is that it's true! If you repeat a lie enough times it does, in a sense, become the truth, because people begin to believe it, it's really freaky. Like when Gandalf was saying (in Ch. Shadows of the Past) that Gollum kept repeating to himself that the Ring was his present, or should have been because it was his birthday and he said that Gollum had really began to believe it - and he was the deciever, he knew the truth because it happened. He wasn't a third-party being lied to. He knew from the get-go that it wasn't true, but the power of pursuassion convinced him otherwise. The dream was something I really wanted to do. Frodo is no stranger to torture and grief and I thought that his mind would make a connection between the past and present (why else would Tolkien have mentioned the mushroom thieving in "Fellowship". As for the three months, I've actually left people hanging for longer than that. I haven't updated "Frodo's Bane and Pippin's Stomach" since Christmas and it's been longer for "His Little Evenstar" but there are some of my favorite stories that haven't been updated in OVER a year
Periantari · 5 May 2004 · Chapter 3: Sauron the Great
Wow Arwen, you already have me on the edge of my seat in the first three chapters! brilliant dialgue you have between the Mouth of Sauron and Sauron himself... very creepy... very cool and creative misunderstanding that you've written about. I can't wait to read more~! =)
Author's reply
*evil laugh* the more plot twists, the better. But don't thank me, I didn't invent the misunderstandings, Tolkien did. I just picked up where he left off, because he didn't pursue it any further. More fun for me! And yes, I got the shivers myself when I wrote this and Ch 2.
Hai · 5 April 2004 · Chapter 5: To Tell the Truth
Poor Frodo! I guess he never should have lost his poker face! That might have come in handy although I guess if the orcs can smell fear it wouldnt' do him much good. Looking forward to more, and finding out what happens to Frodo!

Nope, when a torturer has centuries of expericence, there's not much chance of anything getting by him.

This is really cool, having the story told from this point of view! And Frodo is going to be shown to Aragorn and the rest when they arrive at the gate? That should be interesting! ~ swg ~
Author's reply
Interesting, you say? Well that's an understatement if I ever heard one. Unfortunately, you'll have to wait for that, but I hope chapter 6 (which will be posted before this minute is up) is good enough to go by for now. Enjoy!

Hai · 20 October 2003 · Chapter 3: Sauron the Great
Oh, dear torture but so that he remains healthy enough for Gandalf to take back when he comes! What could that possibly mean!? Where is Sam? I hope we will be seeing much of him, because now it is basically up to him. Oh, dear I hope more is on the way soon! Thank you for all your time!
Author's reply
Yes, we will definatly see Sam. He has his own chapter coming up soon! I know my story outline at the end of chapter 2 says he will be in Ch. 5, but it might be Ch. 6, I have so many ideas for Frodo's chapter that I'm thinking of giving him two.

Nasty thing the Mouth of Sauron, ew! Looking forward to more! Thank you for the little chapter highlights, that way I can look forward to something more specific! Thank you!
Shireling · 29 September 2003 · Chapter 2: the Mouth of Sauron
It was only a little question??? I could have waited--but I've never been known for my patience. You have captured the 'voice' of Sauron's captain- it is very chilling. I look forward to an update. Helen
Author's reply
Thank you for your compliment on my portrayal of the Mouth of Sauron. He was a hard one to write. And if you like him in my story - then don't worry, I'm not done with him yet!
Hai · 23 September 2003 · Chapter 1: A Fool's Hope
Oh, dear all Gandalf's little rememberances and Frodo is going to at the Black Gate you say? Oh, dear, then where is the Ring? I hope to read more soon!
Author's reply
"Where is the Ring?" you ask. Well dear Hai, just think for a second. Where was it in the book, when Frodo was a prisoner? Just remember, when reading this and future chapters, that I'm TRYING to follow the books as closely as possible - not that I won't have to make SOME changes, but - oh you'll see. I won't give you any more hints. I already told you a mite to much already!
Shireling · 23 September 2003 · Chapter 1: A Fool's Hope
You have set the scene very well. I look forward to seeing where this story goes. I can cope with any amount of angst as long as it has a happy ending !!! Helen/shireling

I'm glad you can handle the angst, because I assure you there is plenty more to come.
