Good for Merry! :-) And, distraction, ha! Sam knows what's really important ... :-P

Bless our hobbits for always looking out for one another. :)

This is lovely. I fell right back into Middle Earth. Merry is already the strategist and looks out for everyone.
Author's reply
Thank you so much for your kind review. I love to imagine the hobbits looking out for one another like this.
lbilover · 13 July 2015 · Chapter 1
Awwwwwwwwwww! I love this! Dear Sam and dear Merry. <3<3<3
Author's reply
Thank you so much! I will never tire of the sweetness and love between the hobbits.
Anonymous · 26 June 2015 · Chapter 1
This is delightfully charming! Such a sweet portrait of hobbit friendship, and quite an intriguing take on the question of the "science" of magic. I also really enjoyed how you took a little side comment from the book and spun it into a whole scene that's entirely consistent with everything else we see from the hobbits. I also love the little twist at the end: Merry's a clever one! Thanks for this. :)
Author's reply
Thank you! The Professor left us delightful gaps to fill, and tantalizing hints about many things, such as *how* wizards do what they do. I'm so happy you enjoyed this. :)
Linda Hoyland · 24 June 2015 · Chapter 1
I've never thought about this, but I'm sure the Hobbits would. Lovely.
Author's reply
Thank you, Linda. :)
Drumy · 24 June 2015 · Chapter 1
I like this story very much. Thank you for to write this.
Author's reply
Thank you, Drumy. I'm so happy you enjoyed this.
Larner · 23 June 2015 · Chapter 1
Oh, but I bless them all! Delightful means to distract Frodo from what he's bound himself to! Ah, but this is excellently done!
Author's reply
Thank you so much! Comforting and cheering up hobbits are two of my favoritest things.
meckinock · 22 June 2015 · Chapter 1
It made me smile to see how the hobbits all have each other's backs. And they realize on such an instinctive level that the sustenance of the soul is intrinsically connected to the sustenance of the body - most especially where good food and drink are concerned. Thanks for reminding us again, Shirebound, that we could all do worse than to be more like hobbits.
Author's reply
"An instinctive level" is a wonderful description of the hobbits' love and understanding for one another. Thank you for your lovely review, and for including me in this wonderful gift-day for Nilmandra. And it's a true pleasure to see you writing again.
Periantari · 22 June 2015 · Chapter 1
this is so adorable and a great diversion for me as well! Love the last bit between Merry and Sam. :) awesome job as always!
Author's reply
Thank you, my friend! Leave it to hobbits to bring us smiles.
Antsne · 22 June 2015 · Chapter 1
I love it! I didn't suspect a diversion but I love Sam's thoughtfulness and loving care and the hope Gandalf would put a spell on a mug during the Quest. *hugs Sam* And you too for such a sweet story! Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
Thank you for the hugs and review! Sam is very pleased to get a hug as well. :)
curiouswombat · 22 June 2015 · Chapter 1
What a lovely vignette - and a much needed, gentle and hobbitlike, diversion.
Author's reply
Thank you. I just love imagining scenes like this.
Dot · 22 June 2015 · Chapter 1
Now that made me smile! What a very hobbity conversation :-) You do such a marvellous job with their voices. And I love that underneath it all, it was an act of friendship and love. What a perfect ending too. I like to think of Merry looking after Sam as he looks out for Frodo.
Author's reply
Thanks, Dot! I was originally going to end this with Sam diverting Merry's attention as well, but Merry was smart enough to co-opt the idea for his own. :)
Bodkin · 22 June 2015 · Chapter 1
Good for Sam. The Tookses and Bagginses and Brandybucks might think they're the masters of the Shire, but they couldn't last without the solid strength and wisdom of people like Samwise Gamgee. And beer makes such an excellent diversion!
Author's reply
And I can imagine Sam really pondering this question! I remember in FOTR where he was "saying farewell to the beer-barrel in the cellar" of Bag End. Thank you for your review. :)
Levade · 22 June 2015 · Chapter 1
I am all admiration for you and how well you write these hobbits! They're all just spot-on and the story could easily slip right into canon. Sam is the kind of friend everyone wants, and I love his diversion here. What a lovely tale! Thank you for sharing. :)
Author's reply
Thank you for your kind words! I've loved hobbits for so long, and sometimes I like to close my eyes and imagine conversations between them.
addie71 · 22 June 2015 · Chapter 1
Oh, this is so delightful, loving and heartwarming. I love how first Sam distracts Frodo then Merry does the same for Sam. Hobbits at their best. :)
Author's reply
Thank you so much, Addie. I had no idea that the story would end with Merry distracting Sam until I found myself writing it!
mews1945 · 22 June 2015 · Chapter 1
Such a charming interlude with the four hobbits. Dear Sam is always thinking about Frodo, and Merry was always thinking of everyone else. And how I would love to hear Gandalf sing.
Author's reply
Thank you, Mews. This was such a fun scene to write. I suspect that Gandalf will find much less rest in Rivendell now than he had imagined!
Dreamflower · 22 June 2015 · Chapter 1
*grin* Spot on! I can just imagine Sam thinking up such a question. And let's face it--it's just the sort of conversation to keep hobbits diverted for hours. I can also imagine Pippin gladly passing that on to Gandalf, and pestering him for an answer! (Actually, I just thought of one: perhaps the enchantment rests with Barliman's barrels. Any ale place in them would receive the blessing!)
Author's reply
Now that's a terrific notion! Feel free to run away with it. I'm so happy you enjoyed this wee tale. Poor Gandalf is in for it now. :)
Nilmandra · 22 June 2015 · Chapter 1
Janet, you have absolutely captured the voices of each hobbit so well. I can do Sam I think and Bilbo, but you're one of the few that can do all five of them. This is a lovely little tale. So in keeping with what it means to be a hobbit and so fitting for this group of hobbits at this time. I was explaining hobbits and their customs to a friend last night, and though I am perhaps too tall to be one I am round enough. They brought cake and I gave gifts to my aids that take care of me in honor of my birthday. So now there's another group with an appreciation of hobbits LOL. Thank you so much for this.
Author's reply
It's such a joy to be a part of this celebration for you today, dear one. May the lightheartedness of hobbits shine about you, and the gift of true friends never waver. ♥
daw the minstrel · 22 June 2015 · Chapter 1
Lovely story about friendship and friends amusing one another, even in hard times. Nobody writes hobbits better, Shirebound.
Author's reply
Thank you, Daw, what a lovely thing to say. Hobbits live in my heart and imagination now and always.
