someone · 21 October 2013 · Chapter 31: The Justice of the High King

I didn't think that it would be possible to feel even more sorry for Valandur, but I was wrong. Luckily Herencáno did have those papers, but would they have helped if Ingwë hadn't been there? Somehow it seems that they would have been ignored. I'm quite disappointed that Finwë was ready to convict Valandur without evidence and proper trial, just because he loves Findis. Valandur needs now some peace and quiet (and a trip home, far away from politics).

Author's reply

Hi someone. It is a good thing Ingwë was there to oversee the so-called enquiry and get to the truth of the matter. And I suspect Finwë was influenced in part by Fëanáro in this. As for Valandur, we'll see how he fares after this. Trust me, this story is far from over. Thanks for reviewing. It's very much appreciated.

Larner · 20 October 2013 · Chapter 30: Valandur before the Noldóran

Whatever game Feanaro set into motion is up, or so it would seem, what with Ulmo, the High King, Olwe, and Indis all insisting on a FULL inquiry. I strongly suspect that Finwe's son and heir will soon be backpedaling mightily. And has Feanaro been threatening the lady who has caught Intarion's attention, then? Not a good idea at all, and the Valar are not likely to allow the threats to stand! Heh!

Author's reply

Hi Larner. Yes, the game is up as we will see in the next chapter. Finwë will be doing a lot of the backpedaling, though. We'll see what threats Fëanáro made against Intarion, as well. Thanks for reading and reviewing. It's appreciated.

obsidianj · 19 October 2013 · Chapter 30: Valandur before the Noldóran

Hurrah, for Olwe and Ingwe showing up. Now Finwe really needs to get a defense for himself *grin*. I have a feeling I know what Feanaro did to coerce Intarion to confessing. Let's see if my guess is right. But Ingoldo and Tinwetariel seem to be the kind of parents you are better without. They just leave Intarion hanging.

Author's reply

Hi obsidianj. Well, you'll find out if your guess is right in the next chapter. And Ingoldo and Tinwetariel are real pieces of work, aren't they? Well, we know what happens to them eventually, so I guess it's okay. *grin* Thanks for leaving a review. It's much appreciated.

obsidianj · 19 October 2013 · Chapter 29: Prisoner

Findis is one courageous ellith. And it seems Indis is also on the side of Valandur and her daughter. The 'treason' charge is more worrisome, the more I learn about it. Luckily, Valandur gets his papers safely outside. I wouldn't put it past Feanaro to falsify some papers to 'prove' Valandur's guilt. I just hope Finwe is ready to listen to all and not just Feanaro.

Author's reply

She surely is, obsidianj, and Indis is no one's fool, for which we may be thankful. Finwë and Fëanáro are outnumbered even if they don't know it yet. Thanks for reading.

obsidianj · 19 October 2013 · Chapter 28: From Ashes to Ashes

What? Treason? What is Feanaro up to now? And why is the town so deserted with guards all over the place? Did someone try to teach Feanaro some manners? And everyone got kicked out for that? I don't think this will win Finwe a lot of friends... I just hope that Findis gets the news soon and can send some help.

Author's reply

Hi, obsidianj. Yeah, well, that's Fëanáro for you. *grin* Thanks for reading.

obsidianj · 19 October 2013 · Chapter 27: Succoring the Fiefdoms

This is a very sad chapter. I think you capture the horror of seeing all you belongings gone very well. These people will have to start from scratch again. Luckily they are not alone and will get the help they need.

Author's reply

Hi obsidian. Yes, it is a very sad chapter, and with all the natural disasters that have plagued us of late, I'm sure people can relate to the idea of losing everything even if they've never experienced it personally themselves. And we know that the Southern Fiefdoms do flourish again from my other stories. Thanks for reading and reviewing. It's appreciated.

Laer · 18 October 2013 · Chapter 30: Valandur before the Noldóran

Busted! And not a little bit either but big time. Whoo HOO can not wait to see what happens next, but wait I shall, until 2 AM on Monday. Then I will start checking and double checking. LOL

Author's reply

You bet, Laer. We'll see how everyone fares in the next chapter. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I really appreciate it.

Siiw · 18 October 2013 · Chapter 30: Valandur before the Noldóran

I'll just read this chapter again. This was brilliant. Yay for Olwë and Ingwë! Finwë's reluctance to inform the other kings made me want to tear my hair out...or his and Fëanaro's! I have read and enjoyed every chapter. I just don't trust my English well enough to comment regularly.

Author's reply

Hi Siiw. I'm glad you found the chapter brilliant. I appreciate you taking the time to let me know. Thanks for reading.

Tari · 18 October 2013 · Chapter 30: Valandur before the Noldóran

Talk about a miscarriage of justice. It's amazing how truly vicious some people can be. Indis bringing Ingwë to the trial will throw a monkey wrench in Feanaro's plans. Good for her. I hope a certain Elf gets his comeuppance.

Author's reply

Hi Tari. It would be a miscarriage of justice but I think Ingwë will set things straight. We'll see how things go with Val in the next chapter. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Kevana · 18 October 2013 · Chapter 30: Valandur before the Noldóran

Rereading on my lunch break, and I need to be more careful reviewing, I thought I saw Findis when you wrote Indis. Ahaha. Sorry! Even if Findis didn't have anything to do with fetching Ingwë, I'm sure she would have if she could have. XD -Kevana

Author's reply

Okay, that makes more sense. Thanks for clearing it up. And I'm sure Findis would've fetched Ingwë if she could have, too. It's just the sort of thing she would do.

6336 · 18 October 2013 · Chapter 30: Valandur before the Noldóran

Hm, it's good to have friends in high places! Things are starting to get interesting, very interesting. I bet Indis has Valandur's evidence, or if not knows where Findis has put it. Intarion is so young, still a baby in fact, by Elvan eyes. One more slapping point for Feanor, his list keeps growing and growing! Huggs, Lynda p.s. I do like Herencano.

Author's reply

Hi Lynda. It certainly is, though I don't think Val appreciates it just yet, but he will. We'll see how things go for him and others in the next chapter and find out just who has Val's evidence. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. It's much appreciated. Hugs.

Kevana · 18 October 2013 · Chapter 30: Valandur before the Noldóran

If I remember correctly, I believe the literary terminology for what just happened in this chapter is called "when it hits the fan." Mwahaha! I love it. I cheered so much when Olwë showed up! He's such a sweetie. I think if Ingwë's the brain and Finwë's the courage, Olwë's the heart. (I guess that makes Arafinwë the lost little girl with the ruby slippers .) "he is no more treasonous than your son here" Unintentionally ironic choice of words there, dear Olwë. Go, Findis! I knew that chica would be bolting off at the first opportunity to help Valandur. I have no doubt she would have dragged Ingwë to Tirion if necessary, haha. "Surely you know how to read a person’s fëa, Cousin." I snorted out loud at this bit (I didn't realize the Elves could do that at this point). Now Finwë's actions make even less sense. Oh Intarion, dude. Somebody got to someone you care about, didn't they? I bet I can guess who it was. That is a bloody nightmare. So we finally have all three kings in the same room, and all it took to get them together was...well actually quite a lot. Now to see what happens. Eagerly awaiting it! Thanks for the great chapter, and wishing you a perfect fall weekend! -Kevana

Author's reply

Hi Kevana. Shades of Wizard of Oz! LOL! Anyway, Olwë is no one's fool and Ingwë just rocks. Finwë has no clue what he's up against and his son is even more in the dark about things. We'll learn what pressure was placed on Intarion to do what he did in the next chapter. He's very young. I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter. Thanks for leaving a review. I appreciate it and have a great fall weekend yourself.

someone · 18 October 2013 · Chapter 30: Valandur before the Noldóran

Hehe. Now Fëanáro is in trouble! And Finwë, too. It seems that Finwë trusts his son a bit too much and almost lets him dictate how to rule the realm. Somehow I feel that now that Ingwë is there, Valandur is safe from further plots. Why didn't Findis just give the documents to someone else, like Herencáno? There was no sense in taking them with her and away from the trial - unless she gave them to Indis, who gave them to Ingwë...

Author's reply

Hi someone. Yeah, they'r both in deep doo-doo with Ingwë. We'll see what happened to the documents in the next chapter and who has them. Thanks for reading.

UTfrog · 18 October 2013 · Chapter 30: Valandur before the Noldóran

Guess we will have to wait as well. Maybe Fearno has an explanation, but Finwe has none except, "but my son said." Love, love Olwe and Ingwe showing up. I figured the Valar would have to get involved, but am happy they will let the kings sort it out. Great chapter. Thank you very much

Author's reply

Hi UTfrog. Well, you won't have to wait long, I promise. We'll learn what is what with everyone in the next chapter and how this particular crisis is resolved (or not). Glad you enjoyed the chapter. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.

Sunny · 18 October 2013 · Chapter 30: Valandur before the Noldóran

Hah! Sneaky Ladies FTW! *cheers the ladies on* I must say that Finwë's behavior hare - even for a King about to preside over a trial - is really high-handed. Fëanáro's influence, I presume? A good thing Val is a couple of steps ahead of them! I must say I'm shocked at Intarion's parents. There they stand, when their son is accused of treason, and what do they do to help him? Nothing, that's what. Not even a word of advice! Olwë and Ingwë's arrivals certainly seems to have set the cat among the pigeons! Here's to hoping Fëanáro will at least lose a few feathers! And it seems that Finwë has some explaining to do to his fellow kings - I can hardly wait until Monday to see what he has to say for himself!

Author's reply

Hi Sunny. Very sneaky ladies. And Finwë's behavior will become more understandable in the next chapter. Intarion's parents are a couple of cold fish, that's for sure. We'll see what Ingwë makes of it all in the next chapter and you won't have to wait a whole week for it either. *grin* Thanks for leaving a comment. I very much appreciate it.

bookworm · 17 October 2013 · Chapter 29: Prisoner

*facepalm* Oy gevalt, Feanor no baka. *stops abusing languages* Oh dear oh dear, this doesn't look promising! And poor Intarion too!

Author's reply

Yeah, I agree about Fëanor, and no, it doesn't look promising. We'll see how things go for both Val and Intarion soon enough. Thanks for reviewing. It's always appreciated.

Larner · 14 October 2013 · Chapter 29: Prisoner

I, too, am at a loss to understand why Feanaro is accusing them of treason when as far as I know no one collected any money as yet for any of the bread. And I'm glad that Valandur is able to get the papers out before the Prince has a chance to come "collect" them ahead of time. He is indeed a piece of work!

Author's reply

Hi Larner. We'll find out what bee's in Fëanáro's bonnet in the next chapter when the 'trial' begins and why he has accused Valandur as he has and what has happened to Intarion. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

demeter d · 14 October 2013 · Chapter 28: From Ashes to Ashes

Rainendil said "I dinna want to be living somewhere else. This is my home." If the prince is pushing the villagers in to refugee camps, and not letting them try to replant and rebuild on the land they consider theirs, he just may have a rebellion on his hands. Add all of the surviving residents of several villages to that line. It seems that a mistake as big as the oath had deep roots, long before the event itself. I am enjoying traveling with Valandur and Intarion, and seeing through their eyes. Now, I hope that Calandil gets through in one piece! (Yes, I am reviewing Friday's piece on Monday. Now, I can read Monday and see what happens next. But, never underestimate the power of a sister, even a half sister.)

Author's reply

Hi Demeter d. The situation in the Southern Fiefdoms is certainly tense and Fëanáro hasn't helped any by his high-handedness. And you are correct that we are seeing the germs of the trouble that he causes several thousand years later and other events will contribute to it as we will see. I'm glad you've enjoyed traveling with Valandur and Intarion. Thanks for taking the time to let me know. I really appreciate it.

Laer · 14 October 2013 · Chapter 29: Prisoner

Good thing the ladies know what is what. why are males so silly? ;)

Author's reply

Sure is, Laer. And your guess as to why males are so silly is as good as mine, and I'm a guy! LOL! Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Tari · 14 October 2013 · Chapter 28: From Ashes to Ashes

Prince Fëanáro is up to no good again. His mischief is bound to come back to haunt him and the sooner the better as far as I'm concern. Will Findis come to his rescue? Time will tell.

Author's reply

I'm sure you're right about that, Tari. We'll see how things go from here and what Findis' role is in it soon enough. Thanks for reviewing. It's much appreciated.

Ellie · 14 October 2013 · Chapter 29: Prisoner

I love this chapter. It is so much fun seeing Findis being devious and Indis helping it along as well. Val has been in over his head for a while. I hope some good comes of it for him. He is such a good ellon and deserves good things happening to him even when they outlook appears rather grim.

Author's reply

Hi Ellie. This is a good chapter with Findis and Indis coming to Val's rescue (sort of). Val has some powerful allies, in spite of what it looks like from his viewpoint. We'll see how things develop from here soon enough. Thanks for taking the time to review. I really appreciate it.

6336 · 14 October 2013 · Chapter 29: Prisoner

Well, it seems that the distaff side of Finwe's family is not as stupid as Feanaro would like them to be, neither is Finwe if I do not miss my guess. Even he must realize what a little snot he has for a son, or is he so blinded by his love for Indis? So Feanaro came upon a food riot and decided to twist things to his own advantage, typical! At least Volandur had the presence of mind to give Findis his report, I wonder how well this is going to go down with Ingwe? Feanaro just keeps adding to the list of things he has to answer for. By the way I have my lunch packed and my tablet charged for my wait in the 'I wanna slap Feanor Line'! I think Caristonia's idea of food vendors is a good one. Huggs, Lynda

Author's reply

Hi Lynda. Yeah, the females seem smarter than the males here, but that's not surprising, is it? We'll see how Ingwë responds to what has happened when he hears of it eventually. And I hope you've got plenty of food to share with your fellow slappers. It may be a long wait. LOL! Thanks for leaving a comment. I appreciate it. Hugs.

Kevana · 14 October 2013 · Chapter 29: Prisoner

Now you have me wondering how the Elves came to understand the concept of treason in the first place. It's sad that they understood it enough to accuse someone of it even long before the kinslaying. Ingoldo is notable for his absence. Would he be complicit in letting this happen to his son? I hope Finwë will listen fairly when he sits as judge. He's rather compromised in this situation. But then I guess it doesn't matter, we know where Val ends up no matter if he's found (wrongly) guilty or innocent. Ingoldo and Fëanor are fire and gasoline. Throwing them in the same room together is a horrible idea, unless you're trying to create an explosion. A little backburning of another sort, perhaps. What a chapter! Thanks for the update, Fiondil! Have a spectacular week and fortunately I think it is too drizzly for the flying monkeys to leave the airstrip, so we are probably safe. -Kevana PS: In other news, I found out the Mendenhall Ice Caves exist and...wow. Filed under "things that look too pretty to be real."

Author's reply

Wow, Kevana! The Mendenhall Ice Caves are awesome and awe-inspiring. Thanks for sharing. It's hard to believe such a place really exists in our world. Just goes to show that our world hold many wonderful and 'magical' surprises if we just bother to look. Anyway, while I have Fëanáro use the word 'treason' it's doubtful that's the actual term he used (this is, after all, a translation from the Quenya). More than likely he spoke of "actions against the Crown" or something like. Anyway, we'll see how Finwë handles all this and we'll be seeing Ingoldo soon enough. He wasn't in the Southern Fiefdoms with Fëanáro, but had returned to Tirion with Finwë, so he wasn't involved with what happened there anyway. Thanks for commenting and may yu have a great week yourself.

Cairistiona · 14 October 2013 · Chapter 29: Prisoner

Poor Valandur, hauled off to Tirion bound and then locked up. At least he got a bath finally. I cheered when plucky Findis showed up--I adore her. I'm dreading this "trial", for I fear it will be a real kangaroo court affair (or whatever the equivalent Middle-earth term would be!) The urge to slap Fëanor is stronger than ever.

Author's reply

Hi Cairistiona. Findis is a plucky elleth, that's for sure. Val's lucky to have her on his side. We'll see how the 'trial' goes. Believe me, there are plenty of surprises in store for both the characters and the readers, I promise. Thanks for revieiwng. I appreciate it very much.

UTfrog · 14 October 2013 · Chapter 29: Prisoner

Oh how I love Indis. She certainly has her daughter's best interests at heart. Feanor is certainly not going to be happy when Val's papers are available at the trial. Fantastic chapter. Thank you so much.

Author's reply

Hi UTfrog. Oh, Indis is pretty cool here. She knows her daughter better than Finwë does, at least. We'll see how thing go at the 'trial'. I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.
