· Chapter 10: The Unexpected Party
It took me a looooong time to find this and its subsequent chapters. Not sure why I missed it when originally posted though I've been away from the site as a whole for quite some time. I'll look forward to catching up to where you now are. Thanks as always for your hard work on this.
Author's reply
Thank you for you kind words. I was getting the feeling that nobody is interested in my poor Dwarves anymore. You just made my day. :)
I've been away from the site for a while as well, being more active in my other fandoms (I definitely have too many of those), but I intend to return to this story - and to The Book of Mazarbul - as soon as my Tolkien muse decides to cooperate.

Once in a while I come back to this and am amazed all over again by the level of detail and the wonderful plot. It's really amazing and I like it SO much better than the movies. (Blech!) Please continue it someday?
Author's reply
I am ashamed that I left you waiting for so much. The sad truth is, my Tolkien muse is still kind in a shock from the loss of Fiondil - I wrote lots of stuff in my other fandoms, but nothing in the Ardaverse since his departure.
I promise I'll make an effort to continue the story. It is good to find a kindred spirit who thinks similarly about the films as I do. Thanks for the encouragement, I really appreciate it.

Thank you so much! Will you continue this story soon? I found it very well written and enjoyed it very much.
Author's reply
Thank you! I definitely intend to continue, as soon as I manage to combine the different text versions into a functioning plot in my head. :)

Oh, so good to hear from you again after all this time! A wonderful marriage of book- and movie-verse here. The dialogue is well mixed together, I must say. And we grow closer to the quest itself at last!
Author's reply
Thanks, Larner! This was an incredibly hard chapter to write, because I did not want to simply insert big chunks of the book itself, for obvious reasons, so I agonized about the question what to add or what to leave out forever. Also, work-related stress is not the right mindset for writing Tolkienfic.

Interesting combination of the two canons with your own ideas. I'm looking forward to the moment Bifur is hit by the longing.

· Chapter 9: We Are Going to See the Hobbit!
Nice to get a good introduction to the group who will be accompanied by Bilbo. I disapprove of the PJ version of Balin myself, and wish he'd been presented as more royal in nature. I liked him as a person--he just wasn't proper to the one who would claim the rule of Khazad-dum is all.
Author's reply
Yes, he's more the children's book version. Which would be all right per se, weren't Thorin and Dwalin not from a completely different category.
The WETA book to "The Hobbit" shows a much earlier concept of Balin, where he's magnificent and dignified and wonderful. I used that picture as a template.

Good to see an update on this story. Its definitely a different take on the quest of the Lone Mountain. Looking forward to more of it as well as to your Rohan based story. Thanks as always for your hard work on your writing.

The trick is to stay as true to canon as possible and yet make a different story out of it. It's not easy, and sometimes I manage to maneuvre myself into a croner from where it's hard to get out again. But I'm trying. *g*
Thanks for reading and reviewing. You make my day every time.

· Chapter 8: The Thirteen Warriors
Oh, I love the politics of the decisions as to who goes and who does not. And several of us have agreed that it was Gimli's mother who forbade his going, too, I've noted. And Bifur needs to guard her heart? Hmmm!
Author's reply
Well, it's called a romance for a reason. *g*

· Chapter 7: In Conclave With The Wizard
When one has the benefit of the advice of Tharkun, one would be a fool to ignore it. And they'd best listen when Bifur speaks of her own experience with Hobbits. Gandalf's foreknowledge of their true needs make it sound as if he's been to see Galadriel lately.
Author's reply
Well, he's a wizard. They come and go as they please, right, ;)

This healing sounds hopeful, at least. Now, to see the process completed.

· Chapter 5: The Halls of the Crownless King
I'm glad that their arrival has been welcomed and that they are all apparently comfortably situated. And it does appear that Bifur's wound will be properly dealt with. I find I like Tyrfingr. (But that might just be the visual disabilities specialist in me responding to his visual limitations and how well he does in spite of them! Heh!)
Author's reply
I found in the WETA book, among the various early Dwarf designs one that showed a possibly albino Óin. Thank God they never went for that, but I used the image for Tyrfingr.
In the next chapter, you'll finally meet Mother Edhla and her very Dwarvish dwarvishness. :)

· Chapter 4: An Evening in the Prancing Pony
Well, a most fortunate meeting, and definitely portentous. Now--the Dwarves will find their way to the heart of the Shire as well, to an even more interesting meeting!
Author's reply
Oh, they will take their sweet time before doing that! *points at newly posted chapter* First, we'll get a proper look at Thorin's Halls under the Blue Mountains, see, some Dwarven fire-magic and meet Dís Thráinsdóttir who could give Laila Took the run for her money. *g*
Thanks for taking the time to review. You are a jewel.

· Chapter 3: Market Day in Bree
Ah! A most productive day of shopping, apparently. And Bifur should be much the better for Oin's purchases.
Thanks so for the compliment, and I have been smiling broadly at the references to "Brother Cadfael's Herb Garden." Have been tempted during trips to England to take Brother Cadfael's Walk, although since the death of the author the city no longer identifies quite as openly with her works as before. Ms. Pargeter, who wrote also as Ellis Peters, loved that region near the borders of Wales and set many of her works there. Have all twenty Brother Cadfael books, the Inspector Felse books, and a few others besides. Love the Heaventree Trilogy!
Author's reply
I've got all the Cadfael books, too, and believe me, they weren't easy to get inder the rock where I live. I had to employ the help of friends in several different countries. *g*
I'm glad you liked the new chapter, thanks for taking the time to review.

· Chapter 2: A Dwarf Of Many Journeys
The treatment for the wound sounds promising, and I rejoice that she has his support and comfort right now. Now, to see the ride to Bree play out and see all preparing for the trip to Erebor.
Author's reply
Oh, but first they have to make some money on the Bree market! And Óin has to visit the local herb-mistress. *g*
Thanks for reading and commenting. I swear I'll get around to read a little, too. In a little after a month, when this term finally ends.

· Chapter 1: A Brief Respite On The Road
Ah, good--friends such as this are well met indeed. And trust Gandalf to direct Oin to the meeting place.
Author's reply
Gandalf is a wily old bird, isn't he? *g*
I'm really happy that you like the new story. Thanks for taking the time to review, I was beginning to despair that no-one would like the poor Dwarves. I just got new inspiration by visiting the Old Smithy in Vienna, so I hope to go on with both Dwarf stories steadily. *crosses fingers*
