Oh, that's lovely. I especially loved the description of the approach to the chamber, and the clever way that the 'dust' within had been used in the restoration.
What a beautiful, idea, that the Elven rings might be left with the hobbits.....
and an even more beautiful one that Galadriel's should be passed to Gimli.
a great chapter! thank you!
Author's reply
Thank you, Jan. The ideas in this chapter are part of what inspired the whole story, so I'm glad they worked for you. It makes my heart happy to think that hobbits might inherit *beneficial* rings for a change, and of course dear, humble Gimli will treasure his unexpected gift.

So lovely to wake on this holiday morn to see this story continued, Shirebound. My goodness, the Three Elven Rings in the hands of Hobbits! Now there's an eye-opener and no mistake, as Sam would say. LOL! Giving Gimli Nenya was perfect and of course Aragorn should have Vilya. I have a feeling, though, there is more behind this than handing the Rings over to their true owners (and will Pippin keep Narya and if not, to whom will he give it?) and I look forward to reading more.
Author's reply
Glad I could add some hobbity cheer to your holiday morn! (I'm on my way over to your own update soon.) After so many years of writing, it's a challenge to come up any 'eye-openers'; what a joy to know that a few more are still possible.

I loved the idea of the Elven Ring healing Frodo and am certain Aragorn will put it to good use.It should be a comfort to Arwen too. The statue of Scamp is a lovely idea. A most enjoyable chapter.

Ai ai ai ai ai!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay, this chapter brought tears to my eyes and oh my, this is one of the best chapters you've ever written, Janet. As if the bronze statue of Scamp wasn't enough, THEN you had to go and make me all emotional as Frodo decides to gift Vilya to Aragorn.
Frodo smiled, his whole being radiating peace. “Because I’m finally strong enough to give it up, as I could never have given up the Enemy’s Ring.”
Okay, TEARS there. I didn't expect this story to do that, but you've done that admirably. And I loved Sam's refusal to take any ring at all---that is so like Sam.
Bravo for this chapter... it was brilliant.
Author's reply
What a compliment, Lily! Thank you ever so much. When I know that something I've written has moved someone to tears... wow.
I'm very proud of this chapter. What a true pleasure to know that you enjoyed it this much.

The part with Elanor was just adorable... I think you posted this chapter when I was sick as a dog with my gallbladder attack, and I never reviewed! I just love the lightheartedness of it.

You leave me speechless.

Ah, lovely! I can almost see it all in my mind's eye, thanks to so many little details that you delight in including in your writing, such as, the sound of the fountains reminded him of Rivendell.
I chuckled at Sam's mystification over his children wishing to go a-boating. I wondered at Frodo's guarded tone when Strider asked about his book. I truly enjoyed the description of the memorial (the map sounds wonderful!) and the honoring of the Nine Walkers and their deeds.
And much as you love to see Frodo honored, well, you know I am the same about Merry, and his younger cousin. It was lovely to see Pippin's confusion, and to hear Elessar's explanation. (I can just see Merry beaming in the background, not even bothering to read his own scroll, in his delight at Pippin's recognition.)
Author's reply
Thank you for your lovely review, my friend! I really appreciate you highlighting the parts that you enjoyed the most. I suspect that 'ordinary' hobbits visiting the city, who have never seen Bilbo's maps, would be astounded at how much of Middle-earth would now be revealed to them in those maps.
What a joy to ensure that the hobbits are honored, and their deeds celebrated. *beams*

Well that makes sense, that the Rings would not loose all their power, even a dying fire will still give off some heat. It makes sense that Frodo would pass it on to Aragorn now that he is healed. Giving Galdrials ring to Gimli would no doubt please The Lady also.
Good to know that Scamps descendants are still populating The Shire and bring joy to many people. Does Frodo have a pup now or does he share in Sam's pups?
More please,
Huggs and Scritches,
Lynda
Author's reply
even a dying fire will still give off some heat... exactly! That's a great analogy.
Thank you, Lynda. Being asked for more is an author's greatest delight. (And we haven't heard the last about puppies in this story.) :)

Oh, the perfect disposition for the Three! And now Vilya goes to the husband of Vilya's long-time bearer's granddaughter? Or perhaps he will give it into Arwen's keeping! Wonderful! And love the memorial to Scamp!

Lovely - I love the idea that Gimli should get Galadriel's ring, and that Vilya should now go to a healing king. I wonder if Pippin will feel it is time to also pass his on, now?

Thank you. When I got this idea about the rings, I couldn't wait to weave it into a story.

Argh! You are killing me with this story because I am absolutely DYING to go visit that room and look at the portraits of the Fellowship and read about them! What an utterly charming idea, and it makes me so happy that Frodo is still there to see and experience it all. Thank you!
Author's reply
Thank *you*! Gosh, I'd love to read those scrolls myself. What Aragorn chose to have written would no doubt be quite different from what the hobbits (and others) might have chosen or even thought about. What a joy to ensure that they're honored from one end of Middle-earth to the other, and that Frodo is there to experience it.

What a lovely chapter! So true that Pippin saving Faramir smoothed Aragorn's path to the throne.

Thank you. I think Aragorn might have viewed so many events differently -- and with more of an eye towards heroic history that should be remembered -- than the hobbits might have.

He knelt to wipe the tears of joy that were streaming down Pippin’s face, and embraced him.
Good old Pippin! In that respect he is like Frodo: he underestimates his contributions.
And a great idea of Aragorn to build the memorial house so that the Fellowship will be remembered for a very long time.
Author's reply
How I love hobbits! What a pleasure to give them honor, comfort, and love.
Thank you, Andrea. The way Annuminas (old and new) might have looked and operated is such a blank slate, we get to recreate it the way each of us imagines it best.

I've read some but not all of the stories in this universe and although I think them incredibly well written, I've always thought it a little sad that you've not given Frodo a life partner of his own to support him. In many ways JRRT's solution has always felt most appropriate to me in this area because he gave Frodo peace in another way. I hope that along the way this will be resolved whether in this story or another.
Author's reply
Thank you, Matt, I'm very glad to know that you feel my stories are well written. I've tried hard to get better as a writer over the years. I don't have a call or inspiration to write romance for Frodo; I leave that genre for other writers. I feel fulfilled surrounding him with the love, respect, and support of unconditional friendship, whether in Middle-earth or across the Sea.
