I reread this story and noticed enormous burden that killing other Elves made in Thranduil. I can't help thinking what Noldor think about it. It was mentioned that they had hunted eyes almost like orcs. Did it harm their fea and they still must continue because of Oath?

mystarlight · 5 November 2019 · Chapter 4

You made my day!!!! I am so happy you are going to continue.

mystarlight · 4 November 2019 · Chapter 4

Thranduil's transformation, doubts and reaction to killing of Elves is brilliantly written. What happened to survivors later? Were they found by other scouts?

Author's reply

Don't worry, I intend to finish this one, too! It's hardly started. Thanks for all your great reviews! :)

Wonderful story!!!

mystarlight · 4 November 2019 · Chapter 2

Love as Thranduil reacted when he killed the other Elf for the first time and emphasis that he just wanted to survive. Oropher was so sure they Wil not meet again but still he allowed him to stay behind. Dior had to be a great king to inspire such loyalty.

mystarlight · 4 November 2019 · Chapter 1

The beginning was so peaceful and suddenly the attack happened. It was amazing. I always wondered why scouts didn't warn Dior's people before the attack. Brilliantly described the suspense, confusion and fear. Love your idea of fight between Thranduil and Caranthir. I find interesting that Sindar's weapon was much worse than Noldor.

Oh please continue! This is far too wonderful to leave here!

Shot through the eye. What an image... Poor Thranduil. Poor scout, even. Actually, this story is full of vivid imagery, and as usual your Thranduil is captivating. Have I mentioned that I'm glad you're writing again?

Author's reply

Thank you for this review! So sorry it took me TWO YEARS to say so, but real life ran me over right about that time, and I only just found it again!

OMG...wow...I was blown away when I saw this was updated! I had given up all hope! The suffering of the poor Sindar is undeniable! I loved every syllable of your update and hope to see another soon!!!!

Author's reply

Thank you! I am blessed with an extraordinarily loyal readership. I'm reorganizing my life to make more room for writing, so hopefully there are updates coming. :)

Glad to see this continued. You portray the suffering, both of the Sindar in general and Thranduil over being forced to kill an elf, very well. I hope you continue this!

Author's reply

So glad you enjoyed it! :)

Mere Yom · 7 May 2014 · Chapter 4

"In a few moments they would begin to slip silently into the night, and the snow would conceal any sign that they had been there at all." My heart grieves for the Sindar, so tired so cold. How long til they find a safe (and warm) refuge? I'm glad you are back, Conquistadora. Your picture of Thranduil's brief struggle with the decision to kill the scout shows the unwanted struggle with the fruits of evil. Even the good get sucked in and are forced to terrible deeds. What a horror the Kinslaying was!

Thanks! I'm trying to make more time to write these days.

Wonderful! I hope to see it continued! Your imagery was so clear that I almost felt as afraid as they were! This is a great story! I have not read much on the kinslayings and I am glad to find your high quality work!

I went to your blog and read it. Somehow I had forgotten about it. I wanted to leave a post but did not have the required accounts to do so. This is hardly the place to leave a long missive that does not pertain to your stories, but I just wanted to tell you that you are in my prayers.

Author's reply

Thanks. :) Prayers have been getting us through everything, believe me.

BeeGee · 27 December 2011 · Chapter 1

Even though I knew this story and how it ends, you did a wonderful job keeping the tension up. I couldn't guess what would happen next. Great characterization of Thranduil, and your OC's. I'm looking forward to more!

Author's reply

Thanks for reading! I'll try not to delay the next chapter too long. :)

I can only agree with the former review. I´m so glad you are back. I loved you stories "we were young once" so much and hope you will one time finish this amazing work. You new story is no less thrilling. It has gripped me from the first lines. I like your Thranduil very much. Can´t wait for the next chapter. Thank you. Lai

Author's reply

Thanks! Keep an eye out; I want to try writing Thranduil's version of "The Hobbit" before the movie. ;)

Adrianne · 25 December 2011 · Chapter 1

Oh my! It is so good to see you back with another amazing story. I must ask, how have you been? I have hoped often for your return and especially for a continuation of 'We Were Young Once' but just knowing that you are writing again is enough. I saw this the day you posted but with my own yuletide happenings I did not have the time until tonight to sit and read. I am still trying to absorb it all. I remember these events hinted at in the opening chapters of 'We Were Young Once'. You have captured the horror of it almost too well. To go from hopeful celebration to murderous chaos in so short a time was breathtaking. Superbly written, as always. Your descriptions of Thranduil's fear and his bravery in spite of it were palpable. May I say too, that it was a pity that Thranduil had to end Caranthir's life, yet better than the other way around. I am already anxious for the next chapter. Welcome back. I hope the coming year is filled with inspiration.

Thanks! It's good to be back. I'm doing just fine now, but I have to say 2010-2011 was quite a whirlwind. I got married, was whisked across the country by the navy, and unfortunately lost our first two children. Life seems to have stabilized now, and I'm glad to be writing again. There's a link to my blog here on SoA, if you're interested. Thanks for reading! :)

That was so tragic, elves killing other elves and on Christmas...sighs. Hugs The Imp
