· Chapter 10: J is for Judgment
This lesson will hold him in good stead when it comes to meeting Gollum.
Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
Indeed, as well as in serving as the Baggins and one day as deputy Mayor! Thanks so, Antane!

· Chapter 9: I is for Illustration and Illumination
These are delightful chapters! I love them all! No wonder he was the best hobbit in all the Shire, though that also had little to do with schooling.
Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
Oh, indeed, Antane!

Merry beamed. Love filled these pages.
Beautifully written, Larner! I liked this one very much.

Oh, I'm so glad you do, Andrea! Thanks so!

I'm beaming too. Lovely word-pictures!
Author's reply
I hope to be down after Christmas, and I'll bring down a couple of illuminated manuscripts to share with the girls. And the puppies are settling in well.

· Chapter 7: G is for Grammar--and Gardeners
Bilbo is VERY wise here.
Author's reply
His wisdom has been tempered by exposure to the outer world and an acceptance of his own ability to be foolish, I think. And now he appreciates the thinking of Hamfast, who has his own ideas as to how society should be ordered.

· Chapter 7: G is for Grammar--and Gardeners
(And G is for GamgeeFest! ...Coming up with all the hobbity authors I can to associate with these letters? Who, me? *innocent look* Well, it's for Gamgee, at any rate!)
Anyway, I loved the term "grammar-shirriff", but I felt sorry for poor Sam - Bilbo's right. The Gaffer (another G!) would probably feel Sam was getting above himself. As I used to hear my teachers tell my classmates frequently, "'Ain't' ain't a word!" (I never used it, so I had a good, private laugh to myself over the irony of the statement after class...)

· Chapter 7: G is for Grammar--and Gardeners
“That’s quite enough of you trying to be the grammar-shiriff,” the older Hobbit said.
Grammar-shirriff, that's funny :-)
From what I have read so far it is clear that Frodo gets the best education possible from Bilbo. And it is universal as well as unique!
I'm looking forward to reading more!

· Chapter 6: F is for Farming
Farming is a useful skill, too! I'm hoping to learn canning, actually...there's not much scope for me to do any actual farming, in the midst of the third-largest (by population) city in California. So I can't do what Frodo did, but we do have a farmer's market on Sundays. Canning, pickling, making jams and so on seem like they'd be useful.
Kaylee
Author's reply
I have done some gardening, and have helped raise chickens and ducks. Making jam can be fun.
But for Hobbits, farmers are probably highly honored.

· Chapter 5: E is for Etiquette
"...Besides, if I don’t insist on you studying etiquette your Aunt Dora will never leave us be!” No, she won't! *laughs* That's very true! I do wonder if he has a copy of Miss Dora's Book, what do you think Larner? We could ask Dreamflower if she gave it to him.
Kaylee
Author's reply
In my-verse Frodo helped copy that volume for gifts, so I KNOW he's read it! Heh!

· Chapter 4: D is for Drawing
*grins* D is for Aunt Dora as well as for Drawing! (And for Dreamflower, come to that! Hehehe! And L is for Larner, as well as whatever else it's going to be for. ~.^) Well done Larner, I really love this one! I wish I could draw like that!
Kaylee
Author's reply
In my-verse Frodo has always loved drawing, and signs his pictures with a dragonfly that he hides within his work. And I love working Dora in when I can.

· Chapter 3: C is for Camping
Ah, yes...Saradoc can't keep him safe forever! Bilbo's quite right! Especially if an Adventure comes knocking at his door...which it will, just not with 13 Dwarves in tow! Camping is a very useful skill!
Kaylee
Author's reply
No, they can't protect him always. I bet everyone in the end would have preferred had thirteen Dwarves and a Wizard gone with Frodo on his adventure rather than him leaving with a certain gold Ring in his pocket.

· Chapter 4: D is for Drawing
Love this new series, especially B. :) Ah, a hobbit after my own heart. I liked the ending for C also and liked D also. What a gifted lad!
Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
He does have a good deal to learn to be accepted as a Hobbit of accomplishment, of course. And if I didn't love books, I wouldn't have so blessed many! Heh! I certainly empathize with the lad!

· Chapter 1: A is for Arnor
Ah, I envy Frodo here. To sit at Bilbo's feet (or perhaps his elbow would be more appropriate) and absorb such knowledge.
To hear of Buckland, things he hadn't perhaps even imagined before. ...and he thought he knew Buckland...
Author's reply
It must have been quite the giddy experience for Frodo to study under Bilbo, and to have access to the books Bilbo borrowed from Elrond and all. And he is learning some things about his own land that he probably had not known before!

· Chapter 2: B is for Books
What fun!
(Read this aloud to one of the young hobbits and she squeaked in surprise and pleasure, in complete agreement with me, and Frodo, taking pleasure in books. Reminds me of my grandfather's library, my refuge and abode when we visited Grandma's house.)
What a lovely idea, an Advent calendar, with a snippet to look forward to every day!
Author's reply
I missed the There and Back Again community's prompts last year, so did my own, and have done so again this year. No counting this time--Frodo studying by the alphabet instead. Now--will my rather mad schedule allow me to continue? That is the question!

· Chapter 2: B is for Books
I love the smell and sight of books as much as Frodo. And I'm sure Bilbo feels equally blessed to have such an eager student.
Author's reply
As do I--or I wouldn't have as many as I do! I've had to buy houses to fit my personal library, as my husband and I used to do so to fit the bar he bought from his former brother-in-law. And Bilbo must have been challenged to keep up with Frodo's eagerness to learn.

And B is for books! (Along with everything else I rambling-ly listed...) and Buckland! Hehe, of course! And Beleriand! Talk about glaring omissions...So is this Bag End (another B, lol) then?
Kaylee
Author's reply
Oh, yes, Bag End as well. Now, to get this posted elsewhere!

· Chapter 1: A is for Arnor
Well, that's certainly an eye-opener for Frodo, and no mistake! *grin* I can't wait to see what's next! Well, B, I expect, but anyway. *grin* Let's see...B is for Balrog, B is for Boromir (the descendant of Beor? the earlier Gondorian Steward?), B is for Barrow-downs...(*shudder*) Oh and of course, B is for Bilbo Baggins!! And Baranduin/Branda-nin/Brandywine River...and Blanco...and Bucca of the Marish and...okay, Kaylee, that's enough. *pokes self* hehe...
So where do you get the advent calendar prompts, or are you just making up your own?
Kaylee!
Author's reply
The There and Back Again community used to provide Advent prompts, but didn't do so last year. So, I've come up with my own. It's always fun! And B was fun to think of a word for.
