Oh, I'm glad he was able to look Galadriel in the eye at the end. This was a healing conversation for Boromir as well!
This is a good thought to contemplate:
Our lad was always given the guardians he needed at the times he needed them.
Author's reply
I'm glad too! I'm impressed and touched that his love for Frodo and wish to do whatever he could to help him heal was enough to overcome his anxiety and receive some healing himself. I knew I wanted to do something with the two of them but Boromir wasn't the only one nervous. I didn't mind being around her but wondering if the words coming from her were right.

What a lovely chapter, so filled with wisdom. And this is quite interesting:
Frodo has received a wonderful and terrible gift for one of his kind: a share in our memory, grief and wonder. ... Frodo has received this blessing from the Powers, so his cherished memories are always before him to comfort him
Author's reply
Le hannon, my dear! I am glad that you enjoyed it. :) I have done little writing with Galadriel so was rather nervous about doing her but I wanted Boromir to have some contact with her.

Once again a song has brought him the companion he needs at the moment. And the Lady's light has indeed saved him once more.

I liked the idea of a song too. And the Light too. Le hannon!

Oh my, this chapter is heartbreaking, but so exquisitely written. You take us into the depths with Frodo, and back outwards to the light. I appreciate how you wove Frodo's experience with Sam into his experience with Boromir.
there was little he could do but raise his voice to join the song.
I find this line truly beautiful. It speaks for our lives as well, doesn't it?
Author's reply
Le hannon, my dear! Glad you enjoyed it. I think sometimes it must take great strength to sing amidst such ruin. I liked the way it came out here, so close to the hell it might have been for Frodo at that time, but also the loving presence of a rescuer also. I hope to continue that theme of past and present mingling.

Oh, yes, the "You are a greater hero than anyone else!" argument. Heh! But they must pass the tower to reach the mountain, after all. I'm glad he's not having to face it alone.
Author's reply
Me too. :) I fear it will not be an easy time and the Fire will be the worst, but it will a little help from friends, mortal and otherwise, will be wonderful. Yes, the never ending argument appears again and Sam is not here to refute Frodo's words about not being a hero so Boromir must. :)

I loved every bit of this chapter. Boromir is wise to keep Frodo from repeating the endless litany of "I did nothing heroic". Frodo may never understand his Greatness, but he needs to acknowledge his true worth.
Author's reply
Le hannon, my dear! I am glad you continue to enjoy. Well, as we know from the legendary Baggins stubbornness, it may take a while longer for Frodo to realize his position in littleness and greatness as the Professor said, but I hope he will come to that point.

To think that Boromir was able to be there with Frodo, and defend him in a way he might truly have done if events had gone differently... what a blessing for both of them.

It is good he is allowing Boromir to be his companion through all of it this time--I suspect it made it easier to perceive the aid offered him by the Powers.
Author's reply
I think that was a big step for him and one I wasn't expecting. But it brought him and me to my favorite part of this chapter - that it was Boromir's light that Frodo saw and protected him. Perhaps he will let his 'big brother' be there for more. I don't know yet.

Ohhh, I just love this:
He did not need to bring the Lady’s light here. Simply closing his eyes and remembering the light and love of Sam was enough. He was glad that these memories were just as intense as the others. Sam was with him.

There is so much suffering and hope in this chapter.
We have been given a greater gift, though it may not always seem so.
Boromir's presence is truly a gift -- perhaps the Powers arranged for him to arrive, knowing that he would take an essential part in making Frodo's healing possible.
Author's reply
Glad you have caught up and enjoyed this! *hugs* Yes, definitely that was part of the plan, and for his own healing as well.

The more he realizes he has withstood and can withstand now, the better he will be eventually.
Author's reply
Yes, that's the plan. :) I think if he can continue to not only experience it himself as intense flashbacks because of his PTSD but also from outside himself and understand things he couldn't have before while under assault, it will show him his true face and nature and he will learn that he's not a failure after all. We shall see.

If the darkness came too deeply, it also made it easier to see the light of the stars that accompanied and sheltered him.
What an important event to have re-lived, and survived once again. That was an interesting insight about Glorfindel's light, and how, as the last thing Frodo saw before he fell unconscious on the bank, it may hav helped to sustain him.

Ah, poor Boromir still doesn't know where he is. I love his remembering the love and care showered on Frodo during the journey, and Gandalf's thoughts about love countering the evil effect of the Ring. And yes, it must seem like a piece of his life is missing for Frodo to be Samless, at least until Sam sailed to join him.
I am remembering that in that blessed land, mortals could choose to lay down their lives at will, embracing death with peace at the last. I wonder if this is what will happen with Boromir, when his task is done?
Author's reply
Yes, he's going to get one heck of a shock when he finally realizes, poor man. That's a great idea to use with Boromir dying at will - I hadn't thought of that - thank you! Still don't know how it's going to end myself but must remember that. I think it would be fun if Sam gets a shock and sees him but we shall see. This story is already taking twists and turns I didn't expect.
