Matt · 28 March 2018 · Chapter 11: Endings and Purpose
Really nice closing chapter. I was a little surprised at the level of verve at the end about fighting for their way of living but given RL's emphasis on this right now maybe I should not have been surprised. Thanks loads for your hard work on this.
Author's reply
Thanks for your support, Matt. Yes, Éomer certainly gets a bit carried away in the end, but I can well imagine that the end of his first Midsummer Festival really put him in an exuberant mood. After all, he claimed his rightful place in their society.
Sue Cooke · 27 March 2018 · Chapter 11: Endings and Purpose
Oh - so wonderful. A great wrap-up after the disappointing loss in chapter 10. Will there be a sequel? (please please yes!) Will Stormwing mate with Flame? Will Grima get his nasty paws on Eowyn and will Eomer get into trouble rescuing her? I have just loved this story...now I'm off to look up your other tales!
Author's reply
Thanks for your support, Sue. At the moment, I can't think of a sequel, but I just posted the first chapter of another story that came to my mind when I recently reread LoTR. As for the Stormwing/ Flame lovestory: I'm afraid Éomer won't ride her for much longer (as depicted in a chapter of "The Way of a King"... I don't recommend it to you, or you will be sad. Can't wait to read what you think of my other stories.
Sue Cooke · 16 March 2018 · Chapter 10: The Great Race - Part 3
How tragic! I'm crying - please let Eomer and Stormwing survive. A run like that could burst a horses heart.
Author's reply
HI Sue, I have been accused of being cruel to my main characters a couple of times over the years, but I could never be THIS cruel, don't worry. Cheers, Kat
Matt · 16 March 2018 · Chapter 10: The Great Race - Part 3
Really great chapter. ending a huge surprise which is a compliment to your writing. Thanks for your obviously work on this. Looking forward to what comes next.
Author's reply
Thanks, Matt! At last, the story's come to end end after eight years! I honestly didn't think that my writing muse would ever return to me. so it was even more fun for me to find out what the Rohirrim do in their spare time. Thanks for bearing with me through those last chapters, and I hope that perhaps, this was not the last story I ever posted. Cheers, Kat
Matt · 11 March 2018 · Chapter 9: The Great Race - Part 2
Great set of two chapters. One kind of has to know Eomer is going to be OK when he takes his risky move even though one wonders at penalties for taking known risks that endanger others (including in the Rohirim's case, the horses) but a very fun read all the same. Thanks loads for your hard work on these two chapters. Looking forward to the next installment.
Author's reply
Thanks for your feedback. Yes, that was a risky move, but somehow, Éomer needs to earn his reputation of a willful, reckless young man, right? As for penalties: that descent from the hill is a legitimate alternate route for the daring rider, so they couldn't very well punish him for using it. The Great Race is not known as the hardest race in the Mark for nothing, although they would of course still try to keep their horses safe. Cheers, Kat

Wow, so much suspense packed in this chapter! Already devoured it and eagerly waiting for the next one!
Author's reply
Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad you like... and now the next chapter is up. :-) Cheers, Kat
Sue Cooke · 3 March 2018 · Chapter 8: The Great Race - Part 1
oh,oh,oh so exciting. You write SO well. I saw that a new chapter was up and pounced on it like a greedy child, then stopped. I decided to save it for later and savor it like a forbidden treat. Hooray for Godric! I'd certainly want him by MY side in any battle. Was Eomer foolish to stop? we'll see. Anxiously awaiting the next chapter.
Author's reply
Thank you, Sue! I'm happy to read that you enjoy this. Yes, Godric is certainly someone who knows which the important things in life are, isn't he? That's what I like about the Rohirrim, they've got their priorities right. Cheers, Kat
Anonymous · 3 March 2018 · Chapter 8: The Great Race - Part 1
Another great chapter! Keep it up, the horse lords' story deserves to be told in full!
Author's reply
Thank you, I'm doing what I can. :-)
Matt · 1 March 2018 · Chapter 7: Day Two: The Finals
Nice job on this chapter. Really liked the interactions between Eomer and Eowyn. Even the wake-up scene was fun. Looking forward to the next chapter whenever it arrives.
Author's reply
Hi Matt, thanks for the feedback. I enjoy writing about Éomer and Éowyn, all the more as Éowyn is not your typical princess, but quite a tomboy. Adding to that the hard circumstances under which the siblings had to grow up, I find it a fascinating to think up little scenes between them. Cheers, Kat
Camp6311 · 12 February 2018 · Chapter 7: Day Two: The Finals
I'm thoroughly enjoying this story so far and can't wait to read about the big race! You have captured the Rohiriam culture so well, and your knowledge of horses must come from actual experience.
Author's reply
Hi Camp, thanks for reviewing! I'm happy to hear that you find my describtion of the Rohirrim authentic and I hope that the race will be to your liking, as well. I am very flattered to read that you think that I must have actual riding experience to write this, but that is actually not the case. I always liked horses, but strangely, I never felt the desire to take riding lessons. Go figure. ;-)
Matt · 31 January 2018 · Chapter 6: The Exorcism of Thorvald
A little (necessarily) forced given that this is a story but a nice job of building a reconciliation all the same. Thanks for your hard work on this, looking forward to the next installment.
Author's reply
HI Matt, thanks for the review. Well, what Théodred achieved so far was of course only implement his idea in Thorvald's brain... whether the man actually follows through will be written on an altogether different page (yet not within this story). Cheers, Kat
Matt · 25 January 2018 · Chapter 5: A Risky Plan
Really great story. I've been around SoA for a long time but don't necessarily remember this fic from before. In any case, the five chapters now up are great reading and I hope your creative outburst will continue a few more. Thanks loads for your hard work on this, looking forward to future installments.
Author's reply
Hallo Matt, and thank you for your feedback! To tell the truth, there wasn't much of a story when I posted the first chapter back in 2011, and it is only now that scenes start playing out in my mind, leading me to quite a different place than I had originally anticipated (but isn't that the case most of the times?). I have been asking myself whether the fandom changed in those over seven years since I've last been here (most of the readers I found with my other stories seem to have left it), or whether the lack of feedback is the fault of my writing ("If you can't say anything nice, say nothing at all..." )... or perhaps it is the fact that I'm making rather generous use of OC characters in this story, which might not be to everybody's taste. Oh well, I see how it goes, as it seems impossible now to hold the flood back. This story will get finished! Cheers, Katzilla
Sue Cooke · 17 January 2018 · Chapter 3: Day One
OMG - I just found this story! PLEASE don't let more years go by without finishing it. Your descriptive writing is SO good - I felt like I was there at the fair too. My heart is beating with the adrenaline of anticipation. Thank you for a really great story.
Author's reply
Hello Sue, thank you for reviewing! I'm happy to hear that you like my little tale and hope the new chapter will be to your taste, as well. Unfortunately, it seems that things are getting rather messy now... ;-) Best wishes, Katzilla
Galathil · 5 January 2018 · Chapter 2: Meeting Legends
Hi Katzilla; I agree welcome back! You have being very much missed and so glad you have decided to write more about a fav Erode. Enjoyed this chapter can't wait to see how the race goes. Hope your muse stays awake long enough for you to writ some more. Happy New Year Galathil
Author's reply
Hi Galathil, thank you so much for your nice words! It's good to have been missed. I will do my best to finish this story now. I always knew how I wanted to end it, but didn't have any inspiration for the middle part, and I was so over-stressed with my job for so long that my creative juices just stopped flowing. Hopefully, I will have an update for you later this week. :-) Cheers, Katzilla
s · 2 January 2018 · Chapter 2: Meeting Legends
After so many years of no new chapters, I was resigned to being disappointed that the story hadn't been continued. Now with the new year, I am very happy to see this new chapter! I very much like your portrayal of a young Eomer with all the self-doubts and insecurities of a young man in any time or culture. Perhaps you can combine your talents of writing and photography to illustrate your story!
Author's reply
HI S! I'm quite surprised to be writing again, too! The workload had increased to much over the past years that it killed my creative juices, but during the Christmas break, I suddenly felt something coming back... I'm pretty sure I will finish this story now and hope to have the next chapter ready hopefully sometime this week. Thanks for letting me know your thoughts and that you are enjoying my little story. I hope the rest of it will be to your taste, as well. As for using photography to illustrate my story: wouldn't that be something? I would actually not know how to do it, but when I write, I usually see the scenes like a movie in my head, complete with cast and all... While I'm going with the movies when it comes to casting Éomer, Theoden and Eowyn (all of them younger, of course), I'd like a younger Stellan Skarsgard for Elfhelm, Garrett Hedlund for Théodred and Chris Hemsworth for Bard... Now all I need is to find fund for the movie... ;-)
Ana · 12 May 2013 · Chapter 1: Preparations
Please don't stop writing about young Éomer. This is a very good chapter, heart pounding, we can almost feel the wind, hear the hooves.
Fantasia · 25 August 2011 · Chapter 1: Preparations
Hi Katzilla, so good that you are back. Did you have a serious conversation to your muse? What did you do to her? It is a promisisng start and it seems that is a lighter story, but we never know with you. I was re-reading some of your old fics and was shocked that you had killed Findarras as well; I did remember Éothain, of course, but Findarras too! My, you are really mean! At least Thor, Arnhelm and Bard were left alive, for now. I remember Maddy and her series. They were great.
s · 25 August 2011 · Chapter 1: Preparations
I read your touching dedication to Maddy and being rather new to LOTR fanfiction, I had wondered why her wonderful series had never been finished. Her depiction of Eomer and Lothiriel and the royal family of Dol Amroth will always be one of my favorites. I also greatly enjoy the word picture you paint of a young Eomer and his friends flying over the plains and look forward to yet another engaging tale.
Author's reply
I agree wholeheartedly with your comment about Maddy's achievement in the Rohan-verse (;-)); to this day, it remains the ultimate Éomer/Lothiriel-story for me, and we can only begin to guess what wonderful stories there were still in her head for the future. Her great sense of - often very strange - humour will be thoroughly missed. Thank you for your nice words re. my "Boyz from the Aldburg-hood", too. I must say that it is way too much fun to imagine those glorious Rohirrim at work and play. :-) Best, Katja
Lady Bluejay · 25 August 2011 · Chapter 1: Preparations
Your dedication to Maddy had me in tears. There is nothing I can add really. I read trough her stories occasionally and am so saddened that such a talent is lost. Yes, I miss her very much too. Glad you are still writing. Lovely to see Eomer as a young man. I imagine there is another plateful of angst for us. LBJ
Author's reply
Hi Sidonie, yes, I find that Maddy stays with me even if I didn't know her personally (only through loooooong and frequent phone calls and email-correspondence); what I wouldn't have given to get to *really* know her! I would love to visit her family one of these days as I felt that, through the funny stories she told of them, I knew them, as well, but I don't want to bother them if that renewed their pain. As for the Éomer-angst: I'm not sure yet, but this might actually become one of my lighter stories (no *fluff* though), which is why I decided to dedicate it to Maddy (in the spirit of her comedic Rohan-tales). Of course, I'M saying that *now*, knowing fully well how my stories tend to take on a life of their own... We'll see where this one will take us! ;-) Warm wishes, Kata
