Antane · 4 August 2011 · Chapter 30: Pondering
Well, if you've got Sam, you don't need anyone else, do you? I think not. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
But of course not.:)
Larner · 1 August 2011 · Chapter 31: Beauty Secrets
Heh! Lovely, gracious comeback!
Author's reply
Bloodroot never guessed he would inadvertently bring about a reconciliation between Petal and her mother-in-law, what? I love such ironies!:D ~~~~~{~@
Larner · 1 August 2011 · Chapter 30: Pondering
Well, there's definitely no one better to see to his welfare at this point than Sam, of course.
Author's reply
But of course! And perhaps she helped Frodo to develop the very qualities that inspired Sam's devotion in the first place......
Larner · 25 July 2011 · Chapter 29: A Boon
Ah! Yes, she has given him into the hands of Ulmo, who will see him know the joy he so needs to know proper completion.
Author's reply
She has been true to her word that she will look after him...even when she had to delegate the job to someone else. And yes, Ulmo will deliver more joy to him than he ever bargained for!
Larner · 25 July 2011 · Chapter 28: Farewell
I rejoice that she was able to love--twice. And a good preparation, perhaps, for the day when he will meet Anemone.
Author's reply
Yet I doubt he'll ever know how she really felt...unless a certain Sam was able to relay it to him somehow............
Larner · 25 July 2011 · Chapter 27: Gossip
She is at least innocent of envy and jealousy, and for that I am also glad.
Author's reply
Those who have no reason to feel envy or jealousy are not likely to understand it in others, I imagine. And of course she expected people to talk, and has been advised not to take it to heart. Thanks once more for commenting, Larner! (Thought I'd answered all of these but see there are a couple I've missed) ~~~~~~{~@
Larner · 25 July 2011 · Chapter 26: Mortality
This one means a good deal to me, for some reason--that she would even wonder and be willing to know precisely what he and other mortals feel. Her heart is well focused. Although how she will experience his loss is yet to be made manifest.
Author's reply
I am still trying to imagine that myself. Not an easy matter. Must trust the muse, I guess......... Thanks for commenting Larner! ~~~~~{~@
Larner · 25 July 2011 · Chapter 25: Tangles
A worthy sacrifice she's made for the needs of family peace. And she's amply rewarded, it appears! Heh!
Author's reply
Ah yes.....we all know what good cooks those hobbits are.....;)
Larner · 25 July 2011 · Chapter 24: Toadflax
Ah, trust little boys to find ways to stir up things! Heh!
Author's reply
Little stinkers! Then again, girls have been known to find ways also.....;)
Antane · 25 July 2011 · Chapter 29: A Boon
Sweet and selfless of Petal to restrain herself here and nice of Ulmo to assure her that he will have joy. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
As a mother of mortal children, she learned well how to restrain herself and take the feelings of others into consideration, as those who truly love do. And we can bet Ulmo will see to it that he has all the joy his heart can hold, and then some! Thanks for commenting Antane! ~~~~~~{~@
Antane · 19 July 2011 · Chapter 23: The Call
So that's why Sam was there at that particular time...the changing of the guard. Too much for her, but not too much for him. Bravo for both of them. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
That explains it. Like Gandalf, she knows her limitations. But she has planted the right stuff in them both, unknown to either, perhaps. Thanks for commenting! ~~~~~{~@
Larner · 19 July 2011 · Chapter 23: The Call
Ooh, dear--quite the passing of the guard here. And it sounds more movie- than book-verse. But Sam was right to think that there might be something special going on at Bag End once Mr. Frodo came to live there.
Author's reply
Sometimes the lesser must do what the greater cannot. But Sam is most certainly up to the task. Thanks for commenting Larner! ~~~~~{~@
Larner · 19 July 2011 · Chapter 22: Columbine
So--that's how the whole tradition of naming girls after flowers got started, eh? And by the time Elanor came along it was considered almost the thing to do!
Author's reply
But of course;)) It had to start somewhere, after all!
Larner · 19 July 2011 · Chapter 21: Riding a Swan
A good question to ponder. And this dream she gives him sounds glorious!
Author's reply
Visions of things to come, I'm sure...and did you note the use of colors throughout?
Larner · 19 July 2011 · Chapter 20: Something Queer
Hehe! And they do, after all! Love that Sam feels the strangeness and doesn't quite know how to react to it. And it took coming to live here for his Light to be seen, eh? Interesting!
Author's reply
I think it took the dreams the Fairy gave him to bring it forth, she being the ministering spirit sent to serve this "chosen one" and ward off the attempts of evil beings to destroy or corrupt him...not some cute little sprite with butterfly wings living in a flower or a mushroom. Ok, I'm getting carried away, but that's how I'm seeing her at the moment.......
Larner · 19 July 2011 · Chapter 19: Colors
Oh, but I love this! I love the symbology of each color, I find.
Author's reply
Yes, I got rather tired of the idea of green eyes representing jealousy (I have green eyes;)) and so hit on the idea of them denoting the opposite. Not sure where the others came from. The muse, I suppose! Really, I often don't know what is inside of me until I get to writing...and then I'm always astonished! ~~~~~{~@
Larner · 19 July 2011 · Chapter 18: Resignation
I was thinking of the PP&M song, "I'm in Love with a Big Blue Frog," actually! Heh! The neighbors are against it and it's plain to me, And it's probably plain to you, They think values on their property will go right down If the family next door is blue! I'm in love with a big blue frog, A big blue frog loves me. It's not as bad as it may seem: He's got rhythm and a Ph.D!
Author's reply
Never heard it before! even though I've liked PP&M since I was a teenager. Had to go to youtube to hear it. Wow! LOL
Praveen · 18 July 2011 · Chapter 23: The Call
I am afraid I didn't get this completely, though I have beena regular reader of this series. In particular, exactly when did this happen? When Gandalf visited the Shire and told Frodo about the ring? Was it when Sam 'eavesdroped', and was found out by Gandalf? Or some other time? If what I guessed it true, then a tantalizing question? Do you think Gandalf sensed the presense of a fellow Maia? That is, if you imagine fairies to be maiar. Good effort!
Author's reply
Thanks Praveen.....yes, it's when Sam eavesdropped. And I'm thinking that not only was Gandalf aware of her, he especially asked her to keep an eye on Frodo when he was gone...and have been contemplating a scene in which he does just that, and yes, I've been considering Fairies are an order of maiar also. And like Gandalf she's now finding the call of the Ring to be too much for her to resist, and knows she must bow out and let Sam take over. Thanks again for commenting, I much appreciate your feedback! ~~~~~{~@
Antane · 18 July 2011 · Chapter 19: Colors
No wonder then that Sam is a gardener dealing with green things all the time if such love as his is noted as green. I thought of him instantly of course. :) Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
But of course!;) I knew there had to be a logical reason why green stood for love; wasn't really sure myself. Trust you to point it out.:) ~~~~~{~@
Larner · 15 July 2011 · Chapter 18: Resignation
Ah, I see--not precisely the most supportive of mothers-in-law! "What will the neighbors say if the people next door are blue?"
Author's reply
"Hey look! Smurfs!" LOL
Larner · 15 July 2011 · Chapter 17: Mushrooms
Ah, but she's definitely courting him in her way. And, no--those mushrooms aren't particularly safe.
Author's reply
I've read that violating a fairy ring can cause anything from curses to pimples. Or being poisoned, if one is fool enough to eat the mushrooms. And she'll have to earn Frodo's trust back in one way or another!
Larner · 15 July 2011 · Chapter 16: Sparkles and Twinkles
An excellent point! Yes, she's shown as much curiosity as he! Like mother, like son?
Author's reply
Most definitely...except that his curiosity and hers are quite different: he is a thinker, while I've a feeling she's a bit of a busybody! lol Thanks so much for your comments Larner! ~~~~~{~@
Larner · 15 July 2011 · Chapter 15: Lo, how a Rose
Ah, bless the old Hobbit for his love for his lad. What love will do is marvelous!
Author's reply
It is, isn't it!
Larner · 15 July 2011 · Chapter 14: Respectability
No, he's been enchanted, and now she, too, is under Petal's spell.
Author's reply
Yet I'm wondering if she'll be a sort of hobbit Endora...I've a feeling Petal is in for a few mother-in-law troubles, and what she'll end up doing about it. Time and the muse will tell!
