Oh my! However I hope this is only ceremonial and after this he will lay Herugrim with the king and use Guthwine? I suppose Lothíriel and her family are here?

Fimbrethel · 17 October 2025 · Chapter 29: # 29: Stitches (TA 2998/3018, Gondor/Ithilien)

Interesting, but I had thought the title was referring to stitches meaning sewing up wounds... so if say, Boromir or Beregond had those kind of stitches in those years, and Beregond again 20 years later... Or Beregond and Damrod your stitches 20 years later. The plot bunnies... Good thing he knows how!

Fimbrethel · 17 October 2025 · Chapter 25: #25: Newborn (Fourth Age 21, Minas Tirith, Gondor)

hmmm...would you really write it like that though? It has been 20 years; Elboron and Elfwine are probably at least 10. Also, at this rate, Eldarion will only be 100 when his father dies, I think. I have them born all nearly at the same time, basically the second generation of the sons of Imrahil. (or even of Aragorn, Faramir, and Éomer, the latter two closer in age, but all of them good friends).

Fimbrethel · 17 October 2025 · Chapter 23: #23 - Wassail (TA 2957, December, Edoras, Rohan)

Awwwwwww! And now I want eggnog! Fortunately I only have to wait about two months!

Fimbrethel · 17 October 2025 · Chapter 21: #21 - Stew (Fourth Age 2, Bag End, Hobbiton, The Shire)

First, upon seeing the title, I thought somehow Éowyn had come to Bag End. (I have just been reading of her and down South.) But yes, they didn't eat that stew, did they? But in the book I am pretty sure they did, and even if there was some left and Faramir's men ate it, if he knew about it, wouldn't he have saved some for the hobbits?

Fimbrethel · 17 October 2025 · Chapter 20: #20 - Foreboding (TA 3018, Late July, Rohan)

Alas! And now I am reminded I would read and perhaps write myself when Théodred and Boromir meet in the Halls of Mandos. And their fathers arrive not a month later. If Denethor ever made it there... And they would get to see their mothers, again, perhaps. That sounds better. Or Théodred will see his aunt and uncle at least, who will probably be as worried as he is at the state of Rohan. Fortunately Éomer and Éowyn managed to take care of themselves, with much help from Gondor. Perhaps Boromir was right to understate it perfectly.

Celeritas · 3 December 2010 · Chapter 26: #26: Cold (TA 2942, January, Imladris)

Ooh, I love the chilling (in more ways than one?) end to this. It'd be especially hard, I think, for Estel to understand the way that the years and memories can weigh on an elf, making what should be harmless fun into a dreaded reminder of death.

Celeritas · 3 December 2010 · Chapter 25: #25: Newborn (Fourth Age 21, Minas Tirith, Gondor)

This was ridiculously cute (okay, well, say "hobbit baby" and I'm going to say "ridiculously cute" automatically, but still!). I imagine he'll feel even more awe, though, when Eldarion's born.

Celeritas · 3 December 2010 · Chapter 24: #24 - Solstice (Seventh Age, Current Year, Wiseman. Alaska)

I actually haven't read Fiondil's Elf Academy, but I love the idea of Elves--wherever they are--continuing ancient traditions into the modern day. The appropriation of the cries at the Nirnaeth adds so much more significance, too--both to this and to the original.

UTfrog · 1 December 2010 · Chapter 30: #30 - Succession (TA 3019, August, Edoras, Rohan)

While I am not a huge drabble fan (don't care much for poetry either), this was an outstanding series. Many of these shorts should be expanded. Anyway, thank you so very much.

Congratulations on completing NaQuaWriMo. I have read all of your little tales - small jewels in every day for the month. You had a goal in mind, and you have succeeded with it. We have all benefitted from your efforts. Thank you. - Erulisse (one L)

I've enjoyed each of these thoroughly, Rhyselle. Thank you for all of them, and may you be equally inspired in the future. And this look at Eomer taking the King's sword as his own is a perfect ending to the series! Theoden and Eomund both must be so proud, and bet Theodred is cheering him on!

Larner · 30 November 2010 · Chapter 29: # 29: Stitches (TA 2998/3018, Gondor/Ithilien)

A most wise woman, Damrod's mother!

Larner · 30 November 2010 · Chapter 28: #28: Birthday (Fourth Age 64, Minas Tirith, Gondor)

I'm so pleased that Barahir was able to learn of Hobbit customs from Hobbits themselves. And Pippin must have adored telling about the Party!

Larner · 30 November 2010 · Chapter 27: #27 - Craftsman (Fourth Age, The Glittering Caves, Rohan)

The sign that the artisan is pleased to acknowledge this work. Yes, Gimli knows the right way to do this!

Larner · 30 November 2010 · Chapter 26: #26: Cold (TA 2942, January, Imladris)

The Helcaraxe would indeed be a memory to remain with one! Don't blame him.

Larner · 30 November 2010 · Chapter 25: #25: Newborn (Fourth Age 21, Minas Tirith, Gondor)

Beloved Sam, allowing his friend to be the first to hold his youngest son! And such a wee babe little Tolman must have been!

Larner · 30 November 2010 · Chapter 24: #24 - Solstice (Seventh Age, Current Year, Wiseman. Alaska)

A wonderful image of the Midnight Mass service, as well as Easter Even.

Larner · 30 November 2010 · Chapter 23: #23 - Wassail (TA 2957, December, Edoras, Rohan)

And a wonderful way to remember his friend and mentor it proved as well!

Larner · 30 November 2010 · Chapter 22: #22 - Mallorn (Fourth Age 121, Bag End, Hobbiton, The Shire)

To be the last mallorn remaining within Middle Earth must have been so difficult. And it senses Frodo Gardner will soon leave Middle Earth also. Ahhh!

Larner · 30 November 2010 · Chapter 21: #21 - Stew (Fourth Age 2, Bag End, Hobbiton, The Shire)

I hope that it didn't go to waste! Heh!

Larner · 30 November 2010 · Chapter 20: #20 - Foreboding (TA 3018, Late July, Rohan)

And too true a foreboding it proved in the end, alas for both of them. Well done.

Larner · 30 November 2010 · Chapter 19: #19 - Bitter (TA 1552, Harad)

Indeed, a bitter loss, and more reason to hate the folk of Gondor.

6336 · 29 November 2010 · Chapter 29: # 29: Stitches (TA 2998/3018, Gondor/Ithilien)

Not a bad skill for a warrior to have, taught my son to sew on his own buttons before he left to join the army and he ended up helping his lieutenant sew on her new bars when she got promoted. Lynda

shirebound · 28 November 2010 · Chapter 27: #27 - Craftsman (Fourth Age, The Glittering Caves, Rohan)

It's so unique to see Legolas as Gimli's student, and what a lovely thing for the teacher to show pride in his student's work.
