I really loved the story. Eönwë is one of my favorite characters. I wish more authors would write about him.

Jasna · 30 March 2014 · Chapter 11: The eyes of a hawk

So I've done it. It’s here: http://ficbook.net/readfic/1811339 I want to thank you once again! I really believe this story to be in Tolkien's spirit. And it was really great pleasure to translate it! And very special THANKS for Eönwë!!! :)))

Jasna · 30 December 2013 · Chapter 11: The eyes of a hawk

Hurray! Thank you so much!!! That’s so kind of you! You really made my day and… it’s just the best New Year's gift! :))) Yes, also Olórin-Eönwë friendship is one of the matters I usually think about. )) Thank you!

Jasna · 30 December 2013 · Chapter 11: The eyes of a hawk

Wow. Eönwë is my favourite character ever. And I'm really fascinated. It's so beautiful, how you show this! Though I've not red all of it yet [I'm just extending a delight and take it "piecemeal" :))], but, especially, father-son relationship with Manwë is just beautiful! It's really how I always felt it. And I also very much like the idea of friendship between Eärendil and Eönwë. All of this is very touching! May I ask: had someone translated this story into Russian already? And if not, may I be so bold and ask your permission to try to? :)) Or maybe someone have translated it and I can find it somewhere?

Author's reply

Thank you very much for the review! Eönwë is a wonderful character, and I really like to imagine his relationships to other Silmarillion characters, not only ManwEönwë and Eärendil, but also an occassional friendly sparring match with Finrod, or him and Olórin being mischievious together sometimes before the awaking of the Elves :) The story has not been translated into Russian, but you can do so if you want. Just link the translation back to the original either here or at FFN.

I can't believe I missed this! It adds a new dimension to the story that I already enjoyed a lot!

Thank you very much!

Author's reply

Thank you! Eärendil is getting commercial ;)

Mysterious Jedi · 12 January 2011 · Chapter 11: The eyes of a hawk

Wow...beautiful story. It brought tears to my eyes.

Author's reply

That's a great comliment to me, thank you very much!

Larner · 11 January 2011 · Chapter 999999: Notes

Good explanations for your choices here. I, too, see a similar spiritual relationship between Manwe and Eonwe.

Author's reply

They just make a great father and son, don't they? =) Thank you for reading the story, and for all reviews!

Cairistiona · 11 January 2011 · Chapter 999999: Notes

I know I already told you when I was beta'ing this, but what a wonderful story. I loved the friendship you created between Eonwe and Earendil, and of course, the great sacrifice that Eonwe made in the name of friendship was so incredibly moving. I'm glad you added the notes explaining what was canon and what wasn't, although you treated canon so respectfully that to me, this entire endeavor *felt* like canon. :) A job well done! Thanks for letting me help a little with the punctuation. *g*

Author's reply

Thank you very much Cairistiona, not only for this review, but for all your help with the story! I'm glad you enjoyed the tale, and the ending! And I'm also happy that my (more or less) daring assumptions and reading behind the lines felt like canon =)

Larner · 11 January 2011 · Chapter 11: The eyes of a hawk

What a gift to have given him! Lovely indeed!

Author's reply

A very selfless gift from a true friend! Thank you, I'm glad you liked the end of the story!

Ellynn · 11 January 2011 · Chapter 11: The eyes of a hawk

Awww, great ending! :) I love how you solved things: Eonwe's selfless action gives Earendil his sight back (and is better than before :) ), and yet he can see in his "human" form. Excellent idea! I also like how these events are intertwined with the birth of Elros' son. And I am glad that Earendil will be able to see his descendants. :) Wonderful story!

Author's reply

Hello! I'm glad you like the last chapter! It was really very selfless from Eonwe - he did not know he will be able to see in the "human" form! He is a true friend! And now Earendil can see again, so all the events of the 2nd and 3rd age can happen under his hawk sight. Thank you very much for reading the story and all lovely reviews!

Erulisse (one L) · 11 January 2011 · Chapter 999999: Notes

It is a pity to see this story arc come to an end, you do so well with Eonwe. I look forward to your next story arc, though, because I'm sure that your writing will still be excellent and your characters will be interesting and all-too-real. This was a story that was well worth reading, though, and I will be recommending it to other fanfic friends. - Erulisse (one L)

Thank you very much for reading the story and for all reviews! I'm really glad that you liked it, and thank you for your trust in my future writing! Best wishes, Mirach

AzureSkye · 10 January 2011 · Chapter 11: The eyes of a hawk

Um.....WOW. Thats all I can say to that. Wow, wow, wow...I had to read it again to get any semblance of coherency to my thoughts. For one thing, Earendil calling Eonwe reckless in the end of Hope of a Star was backwards, because Earendil is a lot more reckless than Eonwe in this story. I'm really glad that the sight was a gift in the end, because Eonwe gave up so much to give it to him....and I'm sure Eonwe flew with Earendil as often as he could. Beautiful timing of returning hope, just as Vardamir is born. One question, did Earendil know (or find out) what Eonwe had done? OK, the most beautiful, moving scene, probably of the whole fic, was where Eonwe sacrifices his sight for Earendil. I would love to go on and on about it, but I'm finding I don't have words to do it justice. WOW. Oh, and did Eonwe ever become a hawk again? Well, its been really fun to read, a wonderful take on Eonwe and Earendil, and I can't wait to see what you write next! Thank you for this wonderful story!

Author's reply

Ah, thank you very much! I'm glad you liked the end of the story! To answer the question - no, Eärendil has never found out (so far, but if he does I will probably write a story about it). Eonwe didn't tell anbody about it, not even Elwing. He did not want Earendil to be his friend because of thankufllness, but because of himself - and that he was. He calls Eonwe reckless in Hope of a Star, becaude he had no choice himslef in getting caught by Ungoliant, but Eonwe came into the spider's lair willingly to save him. But I would say they are both reckless =) And after this, Eonwe was still able to become a hawk, but he was blind in that form, so he did it only in highest need. He still could orientate himself, as the Maiar have much more senses, and the sight is not as important to them as to the humans, but the absolute darkness always reminded him on Ungoliant, and that's not a pleasant memory. Thank you again for reading the whole story and all lovely reviews! Mirach

Larner · 5 January 2011 · Chapter 10: The news of a finch

Ah, but he needs now to rise and sail once more, even if at first he needs one by him to teach him how to read the winds of heaven and to set his course. Love the finch waking Eonwe! And Elros and his family wait....

Author's reply

Yes, you are right... The next chapter will reveal that. And I'm glad you like the finch, that little birdie has success with it's few seconds entrance, it seems :)

AzureSkye · 4 January 2011 · Chapter 10: The news of a finch

Oh, poor Earendil. I have horrible vision, but I can't imagine being blind. I'm assuming that the last scene is in the future, because I don't think they slept for weeks. I hope you have a scene where Earendil can see his new grandson. :) After all, he'll have to wait for a good while until Elrond has children. I must admit that the idea of Eonwe freaking out waking up in darkness has caught hold of my imagination, I'm trying to figure out just how much damage a panicking maia could cause. The finch made me laugh, a smug little bird, isn't it? Ah, well, as depressing as it is that the story will be done, I can't wait for the next chapter!

Author's reply

Yes, the last scene is a few weeks later, and those weeks will be covered in the next chapter. And it's true that Elrond is not even married yet, and he won't be for some time ;) The damage caoused by a panicking maia depends of the fact if there is some non-panicking Vala around. I'm glad you like the finch, it seems the birdie has success with its few seconds entrance :D

Larner · 17 December 2010 · Chapter 9: The hawk and the eagle

We rejoice that Earendil has been freed, Vingilot rebuilt with her spirit intact, and Eonwe rests while the spider is dead. Now--to see how Earendil recovers....

Author's reply

Thank you for the review! Yes, the story is almost finished, there is only one chapter left =) Have a nice Holidays!

Erulisse (one L) · 14 December 2010 · Chapter 9: The hawk and the eagle

I have been loving every chapter of this tale. I am relieved that they made it back to Arda and Elwing's tower, and a bit surprised that the Elder King did not know more about Eonwe's battle and foes. But Eonwe and Earendil are both in good hands now and, once they recover - when they recover - they will once again be able to fly. I loved the Powers gathering to rebuild Vingilot - lovely imagery there. Looking forward to the next chapter(s). - Erulisse (one L)

Author's reply

Thank you very much! Manwe usually can see everything, (when sitting with Varda on Taniqetil), but through one substance he can't see - the Unlight. That's how Melkor managed to get to the Trees with Ungoliant, and escape after killing them, veiled in her webs of Unlight. And that's why he was so worried for Eonwe, also... And there is only one chapter left until the end of the tale *sigh*

AzureSkye · 13 December 2010 · Chapter 9: The hawk and the eagle

YAY!! New chapter!! Um, yes, I did want Eonwe to collapse, and well he almost did....I loved the part between Eonwe and Manwe, that was just amazing, and I'm going to go re-read it as soon as I'm done reviewing. That Manwe and the others did so much work on Vlingot was quite interesting, and really showed how much they care about Earendil, and, as an extension, Middle Earth. Well, the Silmaril is safe, Ungoliant is dead, Eonwe is sleeping, Vlingot is fixed but Earendil is not, and all Middle Earth is worrying that Gil-estel is gone. *grin* Great chapter!

Author's reply

Thank you! Personally, I loved that part too :D And yes, everything is fixed already besides the Mariner... One more chapter ;)

ellie · 13 December 2010 · Chapter 9: The hawk and the eagle

WOW! Loved the rebuilding of the Vingilot! Beautiful...

Author's reply

Thank you! I'm gald you like the chapter, after the long delay =)

Mereth · 17 November 2010 · Chapter 8: A darkened star

Aaargh, another cliffhanger... What will they do now? A huge thank you for the graphics. It is fascinating to actually see the dead Trees or to build up the almost surrealistic scene of Eonwe and Earendil being left in an emptiness of grey light. The imagery here is splendid.

Author's reply

This story is a row of cliffhangers, but I can assure you that we are almost art their end already ;) Thank you for the review, I'm glad you liked the imagery!

Larner · 15 November 2010 · Chapter 8: A darkened star

Blinded? Alas! But I do have friends who sail alone in spite of blindness....

Author's reply

Oh, really? I can only imagine how it must feel like. Tell them they have my deepest respect!

AzureSkye · 15 November 2010 · Chapter 8: A darkened star

YAY, New chapter!! Wow. Blind. I really didn't see that one coming. 'course I realized earlier that he didn't have that super vision he supposedly has, so I was wondering about that. My question is, how exhausted is Eonwe right now? He was already tired, the he was Singing for hours, and I can't imagine that was easy. :) do we get to see him collapse? And where's the Silmaril, Elwing's there, but there's no mention of it....Any way, great chapter, and I can't wait for the rebuilding of Vingilot! I wonder what people on Middle Earth are thinking, as Gil-estel has disappeared. Hmm...I don't know if you'll work that in, but now I'm curious......

Author's reply

Ah yes... to give him a super vision, you need to take the normal one away first, don't you? ;) Well, we will see about that... Um... You do sound as if you would like to see Eonwe collapse ;) I have to write the next chapter yet, so I don't know myself what exactly will happen. I think Manwe is quite worried for him by now... The Silmaril is there, but the flower of Telperion is brighter, so it is not that noticeable. And I was also wondering what the poeple in Middle-earth are thinking. I'm sure Elrond and Elros are worried for their father, and wondering what happened. Thank you for the review!

Larner · 15 November 2010 · Chapter 7: The spider

A horrible encounter, and at least he has slain his enemy. Now--to save the Mariner and what remains of the Ship.

Author's reply

Thank you for the review! I agree, Ungoliant is better dead...

Erulisse (one L) · 4 November 2010 · Chapter 7: The spider

I have been reading your tales about Earendil with great interest, and find myself totally engrossed in this story of the two great friends. The terror of the dark vs the purity of the light are once again a focus, and are once again treated with respect and understanding. I can hardly wait for the next chapter. - Erulisse (one L)

Author's reply

I'm really glad you like my story, and the friendship of Earendil and Eonwe! Thank you very much for the review!
