loved the ending! those poor elflings but at least they survived and became friends with Anastor and Noruil. Can't wait to read more little snippets in other parts of the stories :)

What a tense ending for the adventure! But I had to laugh when the chidlren all began saying that they were friends, susprising everyone, including themselves! The tension and dread when they thought they might have found Galithil's body was very well done! And I'm so happy to learn you're updating journeys!

Author's reply

I liked that moment too. They really are friends. Mostly. ;-) It was fun writing another side of Anastor. He's not all bad. The tension and dread when they thought they might have found Galithil's body was very well done! I'm glad it worked. Poor Aradunnon! ;) Thanks so much for the reviews! I really appreciate them!

Elliska, this chapter was very good, I was feeling all the tension of the parents, the scene of the parents running and serching in the riverbank was very well writen. Love the friendship between the kids, hoping that will survive their parents confrontations Thank you for posting. I'll wait for new updates for journey and anything that you want to post.

I'm glad it came across as tense. Writing things like this is tough. It's like battle scenes. They can be too repetitive to really be tense. So I'm glad it worked for you. Thanks so much for the reviews! I appreciate them so much!

Holy cow. The adults searched for "hours" and the kids weren't at the fallen tree where Aradunnon et al (including me) expected them to be? My heart would not have taken it. Of course, it also wouldn't have taken that run along the riverbank, but that's beside the point. There were some scary moments there for half-drowned Legolas. His world had narrowed to just surviving and hanging onto Galithil. Thank goodness for Anastor. Hm. Did I just type that? Yes, I did! If they were as far as the raft elves village, they had come a long way. They were very rational about which way to go. You can see how much gumption and courage they all have. No matter how hard he tried, he could not erase from his mind the vision of the absolutely sick, nearly desperate, expression on his father's and uncles' faces as they ran into the raft elves' village. Almost as bad was their utter relief upon seeing their children. These were expressions Legolas never wanted to see on his father's face again, much less be the cause of Too bad, Legolas. I suspect your father felt exactly that way when you headed off to Mordor. But I had to laugh at how Legolas all but rolls his eyes at how ridiculously detailed Anastor and Noruil in filling their parents in about the disaster. Yeah, sometimes it's more merciful to leave parents in the dark a little. I did like the way the kids gave their mutually hostile fathers something to think about. Maybe when Gimli came along, Legolas remembered Anastor.

I'm glad this seemed tense. It was too much like a battle scene. Difficult to write. But I had fun writing Anastor. After all, he has to have done a few decent things if Legolas and Co. were going to tolerate him. But it is fun to be a little different. :-) Too bad, Legolas. I suspect your father felt exactly that way when you headed off to Mordor. Exactly what I was thinking when I wrote that. :-) Poor Thranduil. Maybe when Gimli came along, Legolas remembered Anastor. Again, exactly what I was thinking. Thanks so much for the reviews, daw. I really appreciate them!

Fantasia · 16 August 2010 · Chapter 2: River Journeys: Part 2

Elliska, for some reason I missed this story. I'm so happy that you have decided to post, I really miss the old time when we have so many good fanfics and authors posting. I was even sad reading the reviews, because I can see some of my favorite authors commenting and not stories from them. Back to your story, wonderful, what a brave kids they are. So good to see all of them again, includng Aradunnon (I haven't forgive you yet for killing him) I'll looking for you update next weekend. Thank you

Author's reply

I totally agree! I miss having good stories to distract me from boring work! ;-) I'm glad you enjoyed. I liked posting story because it gave me a chance to revisit Aradunnon! Thanks do much for the review! I really appreciate them.

perelleth · 15 August 2010 · Chapter 2: River Journeys: Part 2

ooof. Galithil is a magent for trouble, even when he swears he won't :-) Poor parents, they do have their hands full with getting these elflings into adulthood!

Author's reply

Yeah, he and everyone else just need to accept that causing trouble is in his blood! ;-) Life is easier once you accept the inevitable. Thanks so much for the review! I really appreciate them!

perelleth · 15 August 2010 · Chapter 1: River Journeys: Part 1

Hey, I had missed this one! Trouble and trouble is al that comes from these two, but Legolas' disgust at seeing Galithil and Maidhen together is such great fun! :)

Author's reply

:-) I enjoyed Legolas's reaction. Typical young boys. Trouble is typical of boys too, I suppose. Glad you enjoyed. Thanks so much for the review!

Author's reply

Glad you enjoyed and I hope you like the last part. Thanks so much for the reviews!

daw the minstrel · 15 August 2010 · Chapter 2: River Journeys: Part 2

Poor Aradunnon. I suppose this is neither the first nor the last time he'll sense trouble from Galithil's direction. But then, like father, like son. We've had flooding my neck of the woods this week, so I really sympathize with how powerfully that river is fighting Legolas's efforts to steer. I have to say I was tempted to scroll down when he kept being unable to spot Galithil. Berior does well here, coming across as cool-headed and strong once they get to the tree. I really like seeing how strong and brave these kids are even at this age. Berior was also safe, stuck to a branch like a bear cub stuck in a tree Nice image.

Author's reply

No, I imagine Aradunnon got used to that before the end, poor elf! And you are exactly right. I saw your flooding in the news. That sort of thing is always so distressing. So many poor people losing so much. I remember when I wrote this, I had read an article for heaven only knows what reason about how people caught in rip currents at the beach react (and how they should react). It was what inspired this story. It was scary. These kids really do handle this well. Glad you liked that image. And the chapter. Thanks so much for the review. I appreciate them so much!

CandissD · 3 August 2010 · Chapter 1: River Journeys: Part 1

Great chapter! It took me a moment to get the timeline sorted in my head, but I loved this! Thanks so much for posting!

Author's reply

I'm glad you liked it. I never intended to post things out of order, but I decided to end Part 4 without including some of the parts I wanted to post. And I have a few other short parts later on in the story too. So this is a good place for short bits like that. Sorry to be so long continuing it. Work is killing me these days.

Elliska! You posted! I practically fell off my seat when I saw the alert. Made my day, it did. Granted, it took a minute to re-adjust to the jump in time but it's good to see old friends again :-) I enjoyed the start of it the most, I think, because it's always fun to see the adults teasing one another and of course Aradunnon is quite a character. I'm pretending I don't know what happens to him... The minute I heard about the river being flooded, though, I was bracing myself for a bit of divilment among the children. I enjoyed watching them nonetheless, even if it was never going to end well! It's fascinating to see how skilled they are. I like the mention too of how Legolas had to work to earn the rope. He amuses me actually - so mature on one hand about not taking the candy (I'd have taken it!) but giving the rope anyway and yet utterly disgusted by Maidhien and Galithil! Poor Galithil. Once again inadvertantly in a mess. Maybe he should give up promising to be responsible - it always backfires! So what happens next? :-)

Author's reply

LOL! I was about as surprised as you. I need to just post or I'll not get it in at all, if you know what I mean. :-) Jumping back in the timeline is weird to me too. But there are a few younger Legolas stories that I wanted to post and a few adult ones that I doubt I'll post on their own, so this will be a good place to group shorter stories. I like the beginning of this too. I like Aradunnon's attitude. ;-) Legolas was making me laugh. It's hard for me to believe he really liked his cousin making friends (or whatever) with an elleth. They are already friends with Eirienil and Aewen, but they've never really noticed they are ellyth. And I think you're right about Galithil. Maybe he should try promising to be bad. Couldn't work out worse. Thanks so much for the review!

daw the minstrel · 31 July 2010 · Chapter 1: River Journeys: Part 1

I was so excited to get the chapter alert for this! Then I read the info about when it was set, but didn't take it in, and it was like I was seeing ghosts. Sort of melancholy, really, knowing Aradunnon's fate before he does. I really liked the capable way Legolas and his cousins worked on their raft. Their skill seems like something kids in their situation could value and learn. Legolas's reaction to Galithil and Maidhien is quite funny. And age appropriate! Puke on lovey-dovey stuff. But Maidhien is right when she says it was nice of him to give the rope to Noruil. And you have to admire Thranduil for working to teach Legolas the value of things like rope and earn the right to have it. And even the use to which Noruil and Anastor put it doesn't negate Legolas's generosity. I had to laugh when Berior says not to take the rope back until he's had a turn. Poor Galithil. He's just sworn to be responsible and look what happens.

Author's reply

:-) I glad to find time for a little creativity. I started the editing on this immediately after finishing the last story because I was missing Aradunnon already, so I know what you mean about ghosts. I was having a conversation with someone today about the skills even kids would have in Tolkien's world that no one has today. It would be cool to be as capable as these people (but modern conveniences are excellent too). I think Legolas would definitely learn the value of things in a place like Mirkwood. Puke on lovey-dovey stuff. LOL! Exactly. Little boys! Berior would be a fun kid to have a friend. Galithil, might be a little more dangerous. Poor kid spends a lot of time promising to be responsible and just blowing it for one reason or another. :-) Thanks so much for the review, daw!
