· Chapter 11: Historiography, Part Two - for Raksha
A wonderful little story, the Steward of Gondor catching up with old history and old friends, history that he's lived and friends he still loves. And for Faramir, in this vignette, the history and his story blend together. I love the mixture of scholar's perspective with the personal memories. Thank you for this touching birthday mathom!
Author's reply
You're quite welcome! I think it would be very odd to be in Faramir's position, so far removed from a friend by time, distance, and brevity of acquaintance--then reading Frodo's account of the past. As I said earlier, this entire concept was a lot of fun to explore, so thanks for the prompt.

Awwwww. Very nice! I love the way you capture Beregond's soldierly toughness and his friendship with Pippin, and the soldierly spirit of the Men of Gondor after the great victory, the way the other soldiers join the guard around Pippin's tent is marvelous...
Author's reply
Thanks! Despite the fact that Pippin has more than proved himself a soldier of Gondor, I think all these stern men's paternal instincts would still kick in. I hope Pippin isn't overwhelmed when he wakes up!

Beautiful - you capture the sea-longing so vividly here, as well as Galadriel's own sorrowful longing for home; and now, finally, she knows she can regain the West. Very Elven as well as Tolkienish.

Thank you!

· Chapter 1: Historiography, Part One - for Marta
How did I miss this one? A lovely look at the friendship between Merry, Pippin and Faramir, and the great history they have shared. There aren't enough fanfiction stories dealing with the Thain's Book; and this book is such a personal treasure for these three noble scholars. And I love Faramir's mention of his grandson, surely the canonical Barahir, who will carry on the love and study of history in Gondor. A wonderful vignette!
Author's reply
Actually, this fic started out as yours (with the plan of eventually getting to Part 2), but the story quickly veered off in the direction of Marta's prompt so I decided it'd be best to make it deliberately so, and split up the story. I love manuscript and archive fics, so this was a real treasure to work on (as was slipping in Barahir!).

I loved this look at the Rangers and would be most interested in the meeting with the Chieftain!
Author's reply
Thanks! I'm not sure which Chieftain it is, so I left the time ambiguous, but Rangers are Rangers. ^_^

I'm so glad you followed through on this one! Now, to let nature take its course! She's seen the grief he holds deep in his heart, and understands better now, I think, why he sought to steal that kiss to begin with. Compassion can at times help spark love.
Thanks for this one!
Author's reply
It'll still be quite a while, but they've definitely made progress. I'm hoping to continue revisiting this from time to time.

Durn--my browser won't let me see the picture. But it sounds delightful! Poor lass--wants more adventure than she realizes.
Author's reply
I know that sometimes Deviantart pictures just won't load, and if you try another day it might work. Because it is a delightful picture and it explains the gung-ho-ness of the unnamed girl.

Oh, I can see this, too. How many have helped copy the Red Book that was presented to the King's archives? And he felt as if Frodo were there the whole time he was reading? Well, of course!
Author's reply
It'd be quite easy to feel so, if one actually had known him in real life. I hope to be able to do more work with the Thain's Book in the future.

Definitely an interesting feast there! So, Leroy's playing a shoot-em-up computer game, eh? And McDonalds fries in the stew? Heh! Oh, dear!

· Chapter 3: Keeping up with the Brandybucks - for Dreamflower
Well, from what we can tell the stairs at the Great Smial down which Lalia fell appear to have been OUTDOORS rather than INDOORS. Heh! The great stairs debate continues, along with the question as to whether or not Balrogs have usable wings.
But I'm certain that the Tooks had a ballroom!
Author's reply
Yes, but if they were outdoor stairs, and Great Smials was so huge and interconnected, how did the different floors connect--unless it were truly built on a ravine or some such thing. I'm rather ambivalent on the entirety of the matter, but if anyone were to have stairs indoors it'd certainly be the Tooks! (And honestly, there's more evidence for those than a ballroom.)

This is very entertaining. I always enjoy the lighter moments of Boromir's part in the Quest. And I do think that food and ale are excellent song subjects, especially for hobbits.
Author's reply
Of course they're excellent subjects, but Pippin, at least so far, doesn't quite grasp that they're even more suitable in an epic setting. Thank you!
