I finally was able to read your newest story, and I must say that you have given Haleth's life a quite unexpected twist. I like it, now I can't wait to find out just exactly who she is and why she was able to get to Aman. Inglor must have know more than he let her to believe.
Can't wait to see how this story evolves.
Author's reply
Thank-you for reviewing, Selene Aduial. Inglor can usually be counted on to know more than he's letting on. The only question is whether because he's being mysterious or he assumes everyone else knows what he knows, so he never mentions it.
I'm glad you like the story and I really hope what comes next won't be disappointing.

Oh Haleth! I think that my feeling as if I want to hug her, weep for her, and slap her upside the head is a sign of very good writing.
I do love that final scene - I am waiting with fascination her trip to meet the Valar - I do hope Inglor has not been punished too harshly for daring to bring her with him...
Author's reply
Wow. That's quite a range of reactions. Haleth is very stubborn and she's still not thinking too clearly.
I'm glad you liked the final scene. After all the legends of Earendil and Eonwe, Haleth would have found it very anticlimactic.
Thank-you for reviewing, Curiouswombat.

Did she really think the Valar didn't know she was there, or where she was heading for? Silly Mortal. *LOL* Looking forward to her visit with the Valar. I'm sure it will be very amusing (for me, if not for her).
Author's reply
Haleth hoped the Valar wouldn't know her exact whereabouts until she was gone. She was probably hoping they'd ignore her if she got away fast enough.
Thanks for reviewing.

So Haleth died at sea? What happened to Inglor and how did she get to the Halls of Mandos? So many questions, but I must wait patiently for the answers.
Author's reply
Thank-you for reviewing, Tari. Haleth seems convinced that she died and went to Mandos, but her perception may not be very reliable.
What happened to Inglor? Good question. He'll show up eventually.
Thanks for reviewing.

I am still a little confused but make no mistake your story is very enjoyable, confusing or not. I have always thought of Haleth and Inglor that way anyway (as if you didn't know) I am now wondering where Inglor is at the moment if he made it to Tol Eressea with Haleth.I still wanna know her real name but I guess she does too. LOL! Will be waiting for more. Hugs The Imp
Author's reply
Thank-you for reviewing, Elflingimp. Where's Inglor? That's a good question. He's bound to be around someplace. Haleth isn't worrying about his absence because she doesn't remember him.
Her real name will eventually make an appearance.
She doesn't like it.
Thanks again for reviewing.

Well done! I began to have an inkling, but it took to the hobbits to confirm it - you have written this chapter masterfully... which is, to be honest, rather what I have come to expect!
Author's reply
Thank-you, curiouswombat. I was really worried the entire thing would be way too confusing to be enjoyable.

I'm not so sure about things being learned, though. Haleth's mind is a very messy place.

Oh botheration! This chapter leaves me even more confused. I think I am feeling frustrated over who Haleth is, I mean if NO one remembers her real name then she must be very old indeed, this mysterious fog woven around her identity is umm.......very confusing, I think Inglor may know, it seems he is her protector in a way(even thou he has to protect himself from her temper) I wonder where she is now? In Mandos maybe? Well I can't figure it out, I think I am beginning to feel like Haleth does right now as if it doesn't really matter. I love the chapter and the way you write thou. Can't wait for the next. P.S. I'm taking it Inglor is not there?
Author's reply
Thanks, Elflingimp. It is a confusing chapter. Haleth's memory has pretty much been wiped clean. She's certain she's in Mandos, but goodness knows if she's right.
Inglor isn't in the vicinity.
Thank you for reviewing.

Now that is a fascinating chapter.
I am, as I am sure I am meant to be, as confused as Haleth - perhaps more so. But happily so!

Thank-you, curiouswombat. It is really confusing, but I couldn't think of a way to make it less confusing. Hopefully the following chapters will make the confusion worthwhile.

And finally an update! Good to see you again.
Doesn't Haleth know of the king's twin brother? And if this is set in the fourth age...he passed over the sea... i look forward to the next chapter and hope that it doesn't take this long the next time 8)
Author's reply
Thank-you, Siiw. I apologize for the length of time between updates. This next part needed a great deal of editting.
Haleth doesn't remember much of anything. Even her borrowed name has slipped her mind. Even if she did remember, she's certain she's dead and wouldn't expect to see the king's very much alive twin brother.
I'll try to keep the updates a bit more regular from now on.
Thanks again.

So he know all along did he? I wonder if things might have been different if she knew that.
Can he find healing for her or will she indeed die at sea? The wait to find out will not be easy.

Thank-you for reviewing, Tari. I'm not sure what point Inglor understood Haleth's feelings for him, but Mr. Oblivious isn't quite as obtuse as he lets on. I apologize for the delay in posting.

Oh Dear! A faint smile? Uh hu, Haleth finally got to hear what she has been wanting to hear all this time. I just hope Inglor makes it to Valinor or where ever he is taking her to on time. What a cliffy!.....I have a confesson to make ,I fell in love with him too. Hugs The Imp
Author's reply
Thank-you, Elflingimp. It's difficult to not fall for Inglor, even if he is beyond frustrating.
Haleth is one of those poor souls who was born under an unlucky star. It seems she's always unconscious when Inglor plays her knight in shining armour. By the time she wakes up, he's back to his detached self.

‘I love you Inglor. Good-bye.’ Her body went limp, her strength spent on the confession.
‘I know,’ he whispered shocked. How could she not have realized?
So Inglor knew it all along? Puts a new perspective on things, doesn't it? His reaction tells me he doesn't reciprocate though one cannot be too sure of Inglor.
That elf is frustrating to understand! :)
Was this the last chapter or will Haleth recover somehow?
Author's reply
Thank-you for reviewing, Shadowfax. Yes, Inglor knew. He never told Haleth he knew. Either he wanted to spare her feelings because he doesn't feel the same way or he assumed she knew.
This isn't the last chapter, but the next portion is in dire need of editting and editting really isn't my strong point.
Thanks again.

I'm glad she finally told Inglor she loves him. I really hope it won't be too late! But what a different side of Inglor we're seeing now. Is he panicking?

Yes, Inglor is panicking. Whatever he had in mind, this wasn't part of the plan.

Aha! You're doubtless correct: the only way she'd admit she loved him is if she believed she was dying, or if she was so ill her defenses were weakened.
Author's reply
Thank-you for the review, eiluj. Yes, the only way Haleth would admit her feelings for Inglor is if she was certain she was dying.

Oh! Oh! That was a 'lump in the throat' chapter.
I do like to see Haleth from Inglor's viewpoint, but I so want a happy ending, and I am beginning to fear that I might not get one. Although, I guess, it might depend on how 'happy ending' is defined...
Author's reply
Sorry, Curiouswombat, it was a bit of a tear-jerker. Writing elf-mortal emotional attachment and staying within the bounds of canon isn't easy. There's no obvious way to have a happy ending. Inevitably the mortal will die and the elf is left to mourn forever.
Thank-you for the review.

Based on the fact that Tolkien never says where those other than Elves go when they leave Middle-earth and his own personal beliefs, I can't help but believe Haleth will go to the Undylands some day also.
Author's reply
Thank-you for reviewing, Tari.
*puts on Tolkien geek hat*
There's a passage in the Silmarillion that says the spirits of the Second Born go to the Halls of Mandos when they die. They don't stay there and no one's certain where they go afterwards, but they do spend a short time before they move on. That was how the Valar were able to reunite Beren and Luthien. The only problem is that the mortal has to be dead to get there and, barring the direct intervention of the Valar, they don't come back.
*takes off geek hat*
The Ring-bearers and Gimli sailed to the Undying Lands, but they had all given huge service to Arda.

That was a short but very sweet chapter, I can tell Inglor cares deeply for Haleth and Haleth for him for all of their bickoring and I am wondering if they will actually part or if maybe he will stay awhile, as for the last chapter when you said I must have been bored because I knew Inglor would not leave her, I wasn't in the least. I just have faith in him. Hugs Deb
Author's reply
Thank-you, Elflingimp. Inglor and Haleth do care for each other. Outside of dropping her while the Corsairs were bearing down on them, it's doubtful that Inglor could have gotten Haleth into the boat. She's got it firmly set in her head that the Blessed Realm is out of bounds. No one really knows what Inglor's thoughts on the matter are. Thank-you again for reviewing.

Such a short chapter this time! :(
Why do I get the distinct feeling that they are heading anywhere but the Blessed Realm??
And why do I feel as though the Corsairs have been paid by you to do another cameo?
Looking forward to a longer update!
Author's reply
Thank-you for reviewing, shadowfax. They could be heading somewhere else. Given the luck these two have, it might be someplace they hadn't planned on going -- not that Inglor would ever admit it wasn't the expected destination.

Hmm - sounds like there are enough provisions for two! I do wish they could *talk* to each other about Inglor's plans.
I hope that Corsair arrow wasn't poisoned - it sounds like it could be :(
Author's reply
Thanks for reviewing, Jay. Maybe Haleth figures that Inglor eats more when he's bored? Is it even possible for an elf to be bored? I have the vague impression that their thought processes work differently from those of mortals; when you're not going to die of old age, there isn't a huge rush to learn and experience things. Thanks again.

So Inglor pushed Haleth onto his ship, did he? Very interesting. His knowledge of the waters was a true lifesaver. I don't think they'll be seeing anymore Corsairs. But, what will happen to Haleth? He can't take her to the Undying Lands, so where will he leave her?
Questions, questions, and more questions.
Author's reply
Yes, Inglor dropped Haleth onto his ship. It's probably the only way he could have gotten her onto it. Where will he leave her? The Gulf of Lune is fairly long. He could drop her off somewhere along the shore.
