Kat · 14 February 2022 · Chapter 96: Longo's Game

Great chapter. I love how you bring these characters out.

Author's reply

I love imagining Frodo dealing with different people after returning home. As for the lingering influence of the Ring--I suspect it would raise its terrible head, especially early in his return and as the Shire's deputy Mayor, and he'd feel temptation to use It from time to time. Thanks so much!

shirebound · 14 February 2022 · Chapter 96: Longo's Game

Poor Frodo, needing to continue to fight internal and external conflicts in distant lands as well as in his beloved Shire. Bless his friends always, and Arwen's jewel.

Author's reply

Amen! Thanks so much, Shirebound!

Larner, somehow a spam link to a sex shop has become attached to this story, on the home page and on the chapter list page. You might need to have an admin remove it if you cant

Author's reply

Thanks for the heads up. People have tried to sell watches, shoes, and purses through my stories. And now this? Gads!

Lindelea · 26 November 2021 · Chapter 95: A Dream of Peace

Oh, I'm so very very sorry. She was such a beautiful spirit. Words are so inadequate. Hugs to you all. Raising up prayers for comfort.

Lindelea · 23 November 2021 · Chapter 95: A Dream of Peace

The details that you have woven into and around the narrative are wonderful, drawing me in and painting a clear picture. (Hooking her foot around the leg of the stool... I've done that sort of thing so many times without even thinking about it!) It was lovely to see Frodo at peace, even if it was the result of a prescient dream. Although I think that Sam would not be so comforted at the thought of his Master (and Brother) sailing away into the West... And happily for Rosie, though Sam did sail in the end, it was after her death, so it was not the terrible rending that it might have been. *hugs* Thank you for a lovely, soothing read after an impossibly busy stretch of work, four days in a row of working from noon until 3 or 4 a.m. I will be up well past midnight yet again tonight, but for a happier reason... picking up a loved one who is flying home for the holiday.

Author's reply

Am so glad this spoke so to you. I suspect Rosie had secret envious thoughts and concerns regarding Sam's relationship with Frodo, as well as fears he might follow Frodo away again but not return this time. To realize she would not endure that loss a second time would be a relief for her. Pray for us--Bettina succumbed to a sudden illness this morning. An emergency room visit failed to save her. I am heartbroken.

Antane · 13 October 2021 · Chapter 95: A Dream of Peace

Glad he had some peace and you are here to report it! :) Hope you are as well as can be in these increasingly crazy times. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

Author Reply: Covid has made things more difficult, I must admit. I've enjoyed imagining what Frodo's dreams of peace might have been like. Thanks so, Antane.

shirebound · 11 October 2021 · Chapter 95: A Dream of Peace

Hobbits, after all, were creatures of the earth that housed and fed them, with no love for that which is fluid and not answerable to foot or plow. I've never heard the nature of hobbits described better. :) Dear Rosie so in love with Sam, so grateful to 'Master' Frodo, and doing her best to comprehend wider concepts than her life had ever prepared her for. This is such a peaceful and loving scene.

Author's reply

I'm so glad you appreciated the description, Shirebound. The idea that Frodo would find images of the Sea comforting would be hard for Rosie to understand, or so I would suspect. But she would appreciate anything that brings Sam's Master peace. Thanks so!

Kat · 10 October 2021 · Chapter 95: A Dream of Peace

I've been reading your stories for quite a while now and I always enjoy them. I really like the theme of peace in this one. Thank you for posting.

Author's reply

And I am glad you enjoyed this, Kat. Thanks so!

KathyG · 10 October 2021 · Chapter 94: A Star's Light at Midnight

Nice! So, Frodo is able to use his star glass to communicate with his loved ones back in the Shire. I like that! =) And in his case, he was able to help Sam assist a family in desperate need.

Author's reply

Sorry to be so delayed responding. As I age it takes increasingly longer to get things done, or so it seems. I suspect Frodo wasn't granted much knowledge about life in the Shire, but that on occasion he was granted leave to intervene in a case of emergency. I bet Frodo missed his old life at times. Thanks so!

shirebound · 10 October 2021 · Chapter 94: A Star's Light at Midnight

“The star’s moved,” Oslo called out, pointing to the place it now appeared to shine, high to the west of their current place. “It’s atop the Hill now,” Frodo agreed. “Now it will lead us home.” What a lovely story to read on this overcast morning. Thank you for celebrating Frodo (and the rest) in such a sweet way. Perhaps we'll peek in on little Starbright again sometime...? :)

Author's reply

Maybe we might see more of Starbright in the future. I never know any more. Heh!

Antane · 24 January 2021 · Chapter 94: A Star's Light at Midnight

Beautiful story! Frodoandsam for President! We need a pro-life one like this. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

You already know that I am able to see both sides to that issue. But this was a family looking forward to the birth of this child, who needed shelter when all began to unravel too soon. Frodo Baggins would not be allowed, I'd think, to focus too much on the life he'd left behind; but at times his need to see into the Shire would be indulged, when the Powers recognized he had both the overwhelming urge and there was a need for his intervention to see things put right. I doubt, by the way, that either Frodo or Sam would wish the burdens of our nation's presidency. Dealing with the needs of their own small land must have seemed more than enough responsibility, there where it mostly took just good sense and an excellent ability to bring it out in others to set things into the proper pattern. Thanks so, Antane. It is always so good to hear from you!

Lindelea · 20 January 2021 · Chapter 94: A Star's Light at Midnight

Oh, such a lovely birthday present! I had tears in my eyes, reading it through. I love the New Year's customs, the first-footer, the bonfire, the (literal) hot pockets. The whispers in the night, wakening various people and setting them instantly to practical action (and no arguing against it on their part at all, it seems), and Sam instantly knowing and trusting his Master's voice. And the guiding starlight, bringing the travellers to a safe resting place, and guiding the rescuers there and back again - I'm sure the Lady was pleased to know her gift was so well-used. “The Powers has their ways,” Sam said with a finality that forbade further discussion. They certainly do! I love the idea of Frodo in a far land, still fondly watching over those he loves. Hugs, Lin

Author's reply

I'd considered expanding this some, with a dreamed conversation between Frodo and Sam, but felt it was better thus. Am so glad that this was so well received. God bless, and may we both do more writing this year! Can't wait until I'm allowed to go south once more. Am beginning to suffer from cabin fever!

Tallis Keeton · 25 September 2020 · Chapter 33: The Lover's Kiss

Hello my dear Larner :) I must say that it was the most cruel of your stories I ever read :) For a moment I was hoping for Livwen and Frodo and then bah! The last of his ladies, his last chance for happy love. But of course I should have expected it becouse it was your storyline and I know that your storylines are not cheap and naively sentimental and such :) Of course it was genius story but to see him robbed of so much in live is cruel, even the afterlife seems mot enough for what he lost. Warm Greetings to you - my fav ff author and to all your friends here :) I hope to hear smt from you soon :)

Author's reply

Oh, but I missed this, Tallis! I've not been able to send out emails for ever so long, what with having to rely solely on my telephone company's server to get access to my email. It's truly a pain! And with my work schedule now I've not been able to connect to the techs that can advise me what to change in my email client so as to get my mail going as well as coming in. No, no simple love story for Frodo Baggins, although he did not allow his undesired celibacy to poison his heart as so many seem to do. But I do believe his love for Livwen was rewarded, even if it was not physically consummated. Thanks so for your patience. Yes, I am here. I am now able to again properly receive my email sorted, and I hope so to be able soon to get mail sent as well as received. I hate computer glitches! It took so long to find where the computer hid my email client after the last surge I received, back in July. Now, to solve the other problem! Aaargh!

Lindelea · 19 April 2020 · Chapter 1: A Time for Truth

Looking for a bit of comfort today, I re-read this. And it brought me to tears, but in a good way. Thank you again for this lovely treat. (((hugs)))

Author's reply

And thanks so for being there for me so many times. Another comment I managed to miss. Sam needed to set things straight many times, I'm certain; and Pippin would be the first to stand behind him at such moments. Thanks so much, and happy birthday!

Andrea · 1 November 2019 · Chapter 93: Night Noises

So much said in such a short story! Really brilliant. Writing down what you feel is always a good idea to sort your thoughts and clear your mind. But Frodo went even further and turned the "offending" words into a statement of love and blessing. Maybe it was kind of a reward that he was granted a glimpse of the future, of Sam and Rosie and their children, just that night.

Author's reply

I suspect it was intended to be a reward of sorts, to know that Sam's first child was now conceived. And I certainly found writing out my frustrations helped to make things easier to sort through in a productive manner. Thanks so for the comments, and I apologize for being so late in responding, Andrea.

Freyalyn · 10 October 2019 · Chapter 1: A Time for Truth

I've just read through this entire series again, backwards, and it's been lovely remembering all the old ones again. Thank you, once more, for sharing your tellings with us.

Author's reply

I am so honored, Freyalyn! Love finding reasons to imagine Frodo Baggins learning more about himself as well as about his friends and the world they lived in.

Antane · 30 September 2019 · Chapter 93: Night Noises

That's a lot to experience in one short time - rage, grief, relief, joy, love - I'm glad the Ring did not win in the end but love did, as it must, being stronger :) Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

But yes, Frodo had a full emotional workout on this, with, as you note, Love winning in the end. And I think that the Powers--and the One above the rest--would want for Frodo to realize his own sacrifice has borne fruit. Thanks so!

harrowcat · 30 September 2019 · Chapter 93: Night Noises

Oh what a heart-achingly sad look at Frodo's feelings but also a fabulously brilliant example of how a shift in perception can turn grief into joy and lay a blanket of comfort over keenly felt hurt and regret- not to lose those emotions but to have them muted just a little. Beautifully written as always Larner. Thank you for sharing. BTW I am having a bit of a 'Larner-fest' at the moment and taking time to re-read your early works. I have just delighted myself with Ties of Family and fondly remember our discussions over 'brothers of the heart'. Hoping all is well with you and yours. Liz

Author's reply

Thank you so, Liz. Have been reading some of my stories to a new client, who finds them a good distraction from the agonies of a debilitating disease. I wish I could come over. Hope that both your new PM and our so-called President both get their rightful due soon, and that both realms find the peace and return to fulfillment that the Shire knew from the return of the Travellers. Hope that perhaps in a year I might travel your way along with friends who wish to visit England with me to serve as a guide to my favorite haunts.

shirebound · 30 September 2019 · Chapter 93: Night Noises

She came to him, placing a golden sun-star blossom in his hand Oh, how lovely. Frodo is so brave, so honest, so deserving of healing. No wonder I can't stop writing about it! Thank you for this loving story.

Author's reply

Yes, he is so deserving of being healed indeed. Thanks so, Shirebound!

Lindelea · 15 October 2018 · Chapter 92: Retrieval

Aww. Beautifully done. I love that Frodo left the knife behind as a legacy for the family of the hobbit it originally belonged to.

Author's reply

This was a sequel to the previous story in this collection. I rejoice that the knife has come full circle. Thank you so! Author Reply: This was a sequel to the previous story in this collection. I rejoice that the knife has come full circle. Thank you so!

harrowcat · 8 October 2018 · Chapter 92: Retrieval

Lovely snippit again Larner. It is the little things that mean a lot don't they? I thought I wanted to keep my Dad's Police Medal but in the end gave it to my Nephew. Then, unexpectedly, I found his old whistle, (used extensively in pre-mobile phone days,) and that means so much more. I am glad that the knife is a reminder of two such special people.

Author's reply

I can see how important the whistle would be for you--a reminder of a more innocent times, I suppose. And the knife indeed is a reminder of two highly unique and important individuals. Thanks for giving me something to think on.

shirebound · 7 October 2018 · Chapter 92: Retrieval

What an amazing journey that knife has been on! Nearly as amazing as those who carried it. I enjoyed this story very much.

Author's reply

Am so glad that the story of this knife has given such pleasure. Thanks!

harrowcat · 1 October 2018 · Chapter 91: A Small Gift

The proper tool for the job. Lovely reflection in this Larner. As an old Girl Guide, (Scout to you of course,) I generally have a knife about me somewhere. Very useful at surprising moments!

Author's reply

I have one on my keychain, and use it mostly to open packages of books and DVDs. Glad the thought resonates so well!
