I love Gimli's reassurance to Frodo about his unseemly thoughts that weren't really - at least not the ones he openly expressed - and also his words about Frodo's own worth outside being a relation of the Esteemed Burglar.
Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
I've found many others have expressed feelings of inadequacy identical to my own, or have admitted having similar uncharitable feelings and thoughts that I'd never spoken aloud. We all need to realize we all fight tendencies to be less than our best. Thanks so, Antane!

There's nothing strange about that thought ;-)
A great conversation between Frodo and Gimli! Thank you very much for writing it, Larner!

No, nothing strange about that thought at all! Heh!

What a rare treat to read a thoughtful and intimate conversation between Frodo and Gimli. I really enjoyed this.
Author's reply
I'm certain that Gimli would be comparing his experiences with these Hobbits and Frodo in especial with what his father had told of the journey with Bilbo so long ago. And it was good to find a reason to highlight Gimli for a change!
Thanks so, Shirebound.

Happy birthday, Larner! And thank you very much for this mathom!
Narcissa would have been the perfect wife for Frodo. But the Ring made it impossible for him to even think about marrying.
I loved it that Pippin tried his best to find Frodo a wife and that from Pippin's point of view that hobbitess should be like his aunt Esmeralda :-)
Author's reply
I suspect that both Pippin and Merry would have considered Merry's mom the perfect woman for most gentlehobbits, actually. I tend to agree with you about Narcissa (although Lily Proudfoot could also have been perfect for him!), but truly doubt that the Ring would have wanted any of Its bearers to be happy, much less happily married! I doubt It would have been able to abide what It would see as rivals.

'nough said. Glad Bilbo's looking after Frodo. And I like the fact that the story is from Pippin's perspective.
LOVE your writings!

From what I've been able to glean about Frodo, he was always surrounded by those who wished to see him taken care of, and who wished him well!

Sighs.....if only the matchmaking plans of Bilbo and Pippin had worked out! Blast the Ring! But at least for one evening Frodo did have a taste of unsullied romance before the Ring and the shadows of the future came into play. Hmmm, I bet Lobelia would have met her match in Narcissa if Frodo hadn't inherited the Ring and she had married Frodo. I think they would have had the best of marriages, and been excellent parents. I can see Sam and Aragorn now, visiting their brother and the three of them watching their children playing in Bag End's gardens as they smoked their pipes. Somehow Aragorn still would have married Arwen and gained the throne and he would have slipped away every now and then to be just himself and not the king.
Author's reply
I so agree. And I do suspect that Narcissa would have given Lobelia as good as she got, if not better.
And I do suspect that Frodo would have been a common visitor in Annuminas, or that between the Hobbits and the Grey Company there would have been found a place between the northern capital and the Shire where the Hobbits and King would have all been able to meet as private individuals. Maybe the Lodge Dreamflower has imagined....

Happy Birthday, dear Larner! Le hannon for the present, the best part being Frodo's laughter. :) Live Journal seems to be having issues at the moment and that was where I was going to be put my own gift to you - will have to try again tomorrow.
Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
Frodo wasn't the Ringbearer as yet, so he had nothing to stop his laughter, at least.
I had no problems with LJ earlier today, but tonight it's being very obstinate.

Ah, another list of 'if onlies', if only Bilbo had not left the Ring to Frodo, if only he had taken it to Imlardris, if only Gandalf had not made him give up the Ring, all the way to if only (what's his name, sorry, senior moment, can't think of the name, or at least his very first name, I can think of a few others, none of them fit for polits company!) had not sung his own Song!
How differant things would have been!
Huggs,
Lynda
Author's reply
Melkor had his own agenda, of course. But if onlies continue to pester us all, even though it's what actually happened in the end that counts, of course.
Thanks so very much, Lynda!

That is so Lobelia. She is determined to get hold of Bag End no matter what it takes.

And what she can't have, she'll do her best to make certain those who get it can't properly enjoy it. She's not particularly nice at this time of her life.

How lovely! That moment of rapport between Frodo and Arwen was marvellous! I think that I see Irmo's hand in the dreams of Rosie and Frodo; a gift of forsight since Frodo wouldn't be able to attend Elanor's wedding. Though......did the Valar allow him to see it in a vision? I'd like to think that they would let him do that so he could share things with his loved ones, paticularly Sam and Aragorn! It was also nice of Arwen to make the dress and send it and the picture to the Shire in preparation for the right moment. Did she realize that Elanor would wear the dress when she first met her? As always, your words have given me much pleasure and enjoyment! Many thanks! :)
Author's reply
I suspect that Frodo was granted his share of visions of those he left behind, actually.
By the time she ordered the picture sent to the Shire she had met Elanor, of course, as Elanor had served as a Maid in Waiting in both Annuminas and in Gondor by that time; and I doubt that the Queen would have forgotten the details of that picture by the time Elanor came to Minas Tirith with her parents. But she'd have had no inkling of Elanor being born when she sent the dress to the Shire originally unless perhaps her own foresight was playing up at the time.
Thanks so!

A lovely piece, Larner. Somehow I think that Frodo was at that wedding in spirit and took delight in seeing Elanor in the dress. At least, I would like to think that the Valar allowed it.
Author's reply
How I missed responding to these I'm not certain, but somehow I did. I, too, suspect that Frodo in the end saw Elanor in that dress in one manner or another, and rejoiced that the child he thought as much his heart's daughter as Sam's and Rosies received it at the hands of the Queen. Perhaps through one of the two Silmarils then present on Eressea?
Thanks so very much, Fiondil, and God keep you.

Now isn't that interesting that he drew Elanor before she even existed. Another one of his precognitive gifts and he didn't even know himself who he drew.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Author's reply
Don't know how I managed to miss responding to these! Yes, Frodo appears to have shared the gift of foresight known to the descendants of Earendil, doesn't he? Heh! And may we all rejoice as we work now toward Pentecost! Thanks so, Antane!

Le hannon, my dear Larner! Sorry to be late in unwrapping but being Lent, I can only read hobbity stuff on the exempt Sundays. I was wondering when Frodo would realize Sam was managing him just as much but in a much more agreeable way. No wonder Frodo considered himself so lucky after the Quest was over.

Poor Frodo! I hope that Snowdrop learns how to behave in the office soon; otherwise she'll drive those poor souls crazy! They've got enough of a headache dealing with Lotho's mess! I'm glad that Frodo's home with Sam and Rosie; they'll have him relaxed, fed, and settled in no time! Thanks for posting this, and I wish I was having roast beef tonight instead of chicken nuggets! :)

"Proper" management depends on the point of view: if you are the manager or the one being managed ;-)

This was delightful, Larner. A deft touch is the difference, and being held in the heart instead of just being "around". That dinner sounds wonderful to me...any extra available?
