Larner · 11 January 2012 · Chapter 9: A Tangled Web

A perfect series in response to the prompts, Clodia.

Author's reply

Thank you! I'm glad, as always, that you enjoyed it!

Rick · 3 May 2011 · Chapter 9: A Tangled Web

You have a magical touch with word-weaving - in all your stories. Please keep writing.

Author's reply

Thank you so much! That's such a kind thing to say, it really brightened my evening. :) I've been rather distracted lately, but I will definitely keep writing and I still have stories to tell in Tolkien's sandbox, so hopefully I'll get it all written one day...

Larner · 13 January 2011 · Chapter 8: Adrift in the Ages

Memories left to Glorfindel and Erestor; memories from a golden past, of joys and griefs.... Lovely to see these gathered together in this way.

Author's reply

Thank you! I always like collecting them up at the end of a challenge; sometimes they seem more substantial put together like this.

daw the minstrel · 13 January 2011 · Chapter 8: Adrift in the Ages

These were wonderful. The language is beautiful, and the economy of the drabble form seems to have heightened it. And the emotions feel real.

Author's reply

Thank you so much! I always have fun writing drabbles -- since it's only a mouthful, you can be more experimental than in more extended pieces. And it doesn't always work, but after all, there's no progression without experimentation (and a little bit of failure). It's lovely to hear you enjoyed them!

Kitt Otter · 13 January 2011 · Chapter 8: Adrift in the Ages

I like these short wistful moments and all the more because I adore your Glorfindel. :) My favorite bit was Celebrian’s remark that Galadriel fell in love with Celeborn’s smile. (Wish he did more of it in the movie… ah well…) The great oddity of being an elf must be to converse their and their buddies’ descendants (and +)! I could very much taste the heartbreak of Gondolin’s fall in Glorfindel’s few words: “The towers – white towers and fountains – and singing under starlight – when the city was done, when we’d built our bright future, when we were safe –” Especially in the last; it’s sweetly remorseful.

Author's reply

Heh, thank you! I was rereading the long Goldilocks story over Christmas, actually, and thought I could maybe use this challenge to work through some of his lingering issues -- and then I was caught by surprise when the challenge ended after only five drabbles, so maybe I'll come back to Glorfindel's Issues another time. (Or maybe I'll jump straight to something Bold and Exciting like his ride against the witch-king.) Celeborn was rather tragically short-changed by the movies. :( But I love him anyway. And I love trying to work out how the long Elven lives affect the way they think; as you say, it must be pretty odd. Imagine having great-great-great-grandmother Judging everything you do! I'm very glad you liked these, as ever. And I hope the new term's got off to a great start!

Larner · 29 December 2010 · Chapter 7: Eilinel

A phantom for one who will manage to find her way past HIS defenses, in spite of all he tries. Nicely done, Clodia!

Author's reply

Yes, precisely so: Eilinel the defenceless replaced by Luthien who can defend herself. Thank you once again for reading and your kind feedback! :)

Kitt Otter · 24 December 2010 · Chapter 7: Eilinel

Black thoughts indeed! Sauron isn't wrong men's 'weakness' - but little known to him it's about to kick his butt! Happy Christmas, Clodia! :)

Author's reply

Quite so! I love Luthien, rather. And happy Christmas to you too, and all the best for 2011 (scary how it comes round so fast..)

Erulisse · 7 June 2010 · Chapter 6: Once Upon a Twilit Time

Thank you, Clodia, for once again gifting us with more of your Dark Messenger. Your interpretation of Erestor never fails to stir my heart. The descriptions of Doriath of old are vivid, the birds peering through the verdigris, the tapestries on the walls. And he, with Daeron's harp, now in a place of refuge but refusing to forget, and unable to forget. You've made my day...no, my week! - Erulisse (one L)

Author's reply

You're very kind to say so! I am so glad you enjoyed it, it's always lovely to know that my version of Erestor works for you. Thank you so much!

Larner · 6 June 2010 · Chapter 6: Once Upon a Twilit Time

And what memories he holds! Magnificent, Clodia! Truly magnificent!

Author's reply

Thank you, I'm so glad you liked this set! :D

Larner · 19 April 2010 · Chapter 5: Spectrum

I am told, when I would wax on about what I've written and what I've read, that there is nothing more boring than someone truly thrilled about their passions to someone who has no interest. Erestor has a lot of boring days to look foreward to, I fear! Heh!

Author's reply

No one's told me that yet, but I can recognise it in people's glazed eyes. I guess it's a universal truth. ;) And thank you for all your reviews! They make it worth writing. :D

Larner · 19 April 2010 · Chapter 4: Golden Flowers

Well, one day Erestor will be in a position to learn the answer to that question! A most interesting conundrum! And a moment of sadness, finding Glorfindel's tower that way.

Author's reply

If you recognised the puzzle, I'm *very* pleased. :D Writing these drabbles made me realise exactly how long it was since I'd written the story they fit in with.

Larner · 19 April 2010 · Chapter 3: Winter into Spring

Ah! Surrogate aunts and uncles have been known to fill the heads of children with nonsense before.... Heh! But after the memories of realms lost....

Author's reply

It is a rather stark contrast, isn't it? But no one can weep forever -- or if they did, they'd be over the sea to Aman. Thank you for reading!

Raksha The Demon · 16 April 2010 · Chapter 5: Spectrum

What a fascinating anthology, Clodia - I can just see Celebrian and Melinna merrily experimenting with beautiful colors. My favorite piece is Rubia Tinctoria; Erestor's attitude is just so perfectly male - why fuss about dyes and clothing while camping and tramping through the wilds - I had to laugh.

Author's reply

I'm very glad you found these interesting! I'm interested in natural dyes myself, so it's a bit hard for me to judge this collection as a neutral reader, if that makes sense. I was afraid it might all be a rather dry topic, so it's wonderful to hear you liked these. Thank you for reading and for reviewing, as ever! :D (And, well, you can't blame Erestor: he was hungry. ;) I'm glad you laughed!)

Virtuella · 15 April 2010 · Chapter 3: Winter into Spring

"Inez?" he said. "What sort of a villain's name is that?" You know, there is a fight taking part in my mind about whether or not I want to know the history behind that! ;-)

Author's reply

Ohhh, I'm sure it wouldn't be *too* hard to find if you went looking for it. Probably. :'D

Virtuella · 15 April 2010 · Chapter 5: Spectrum

Forgot to say on ffn: I like the sensory quality of these miniatures, the way the characters touch the materials. It's very real and very evocative.

Author's reply

That's wonderful to hear! Thank you for taking the time to drop by here and let me know. :D

Erulisse · 15 April 2010 · Chapter 5: Spectrum

Another triumph for you, Clodia. As a former weaver and spinner, I have used many of these items for color. With Melina's delight in weaving in Imladris shared with Celebrian, it's like double-trouble :-) Thank you for making my day (even if I WILL be slightly, ever so slightly, late for work). - Erulisse

Author's reply

//As a former weaver and spinner, I have used many of these items for color.// So have I! It's nice to meet someone who shares such an esoteric hobby. Although I am mostly a spinner -- but I dabble in dyeing and one day I'll take up weaving just to use up all my thread. :D And thank you for taking the time to leave such a lovely review. I'm glad you enjoyed this set and I hope you weren't too late!

Aiwen · 11 April 2010 · Chapter 4: Golden Flowers

I'm not normally very keen on drabbles, but I really like these.

Author's reply

That's really good to hear! Thank you so much for reading, and for letting me know. :D

Raksha The Demon · 8 March 2010 · Chapter 1: Into the Woods

A lovely progression of tree-related drabbles. All were thoughtfully written; but the first, the Apple vignette, was especially delightful.

Author's reply

I'm so glad you think so! Especially about the Apple drabble -- it was the first time I'd tried my hand at drabbling, and I wanted a snippet about beginnings to set the tone. Thank you for reading and for reviewing, as ever!

Larner · 26 February 2010 · Chapter 2: In Memoriam

Indeed, a lovely tribute to her foremother.

Author's reply

I'm very glad you think so. Thank you for reading!

Larner · 10 January 2010 · Chapter 1: Into the Woods

A lovely set of drabbles, and nice to see Erestor's take on events having to do with each tree.

Author's reply

It's so good to hear you enjoyed these drabbles. Thank you for reading!

BeeGee · 5 January 2010 · Chapter 1: Into the Woods

Each and every one of these is a gem! Although some of the subject matter is bittersweet, you brightened my day. Thanks!

Author's reply

That's wonderful to hear! Thank you so much for telling me -- and thank you for reading!
