Grey Wonderer · 3 December 2009 · Chapter 2: 2 - The Magician

LOL Saruman the practical!

Author's reply

Indeed--not yet Saruman the would-be usurper, but learning things he might use toward that end in the future. Thanks so, GW.

Grey Wonderer · 3 December 2009 · Chapter 1: 1 - The Fool

Oh I like this idea. Very clever. Very Pippin as well.

Author's reply

Am so glad you like it, GW. Yes, very much our beloved little (at the time, at least) Took! Thank you so!

Virtuella · 2 December 2009 · Chapter 2: 2 - The Magician

This is a wonderfully tightly packed snippet with great characterisation.

Author's reply

Why, thank you so very much, Virtuella! I am so flattered!

Virtuella · 2 December 2009 · Chapter 1: 1 - The Fool

Great start! I'm really honoured you've dedicated this series to me. :D It's a fascinating idea, and I'm looking forward to what's to come.

Author's reply

Am honored to dedicate it to you, Virtuella. Now, to see what order they post the prompts in. I already know who shall be portrayed as the Hanged Man, of course....

Raksha The Demon · 2 December 2009 · Chapter 2: 2 - The Magician

Excellent characterisation of Saruman, you can just see the wheels turning in his clever head. A good contrast with Gandalf, too.

Author's reply

I'm so glad you have this reaction, Raksha. And there was such a difference between the two wizards. But which was the truer wizard, and which merely the vehicle for misdirection that magic often is? Thanks so!

Garnet Took · 2 December 2009 · Chapter 1: 1 - The Fool

I really loved this. Of course, this should come as no surprise.

Author's reply

Well, of course! Heh! So glad it pleases, Garnet.

Kara's Aunty · 2 December 2009 · Chapter 2: 2 - The Magician

Hello Larner, aha! So that's where he got the idea. Saruman is such a crafty old Slytherin! Nicely done, M ;)

Author's reply

Saruman appears to have learned about pipeweed from Gandalf as well, so why not fireworks? Only trust him to see the practical and destructive applications while Gandalf embraces their brilliance and the enjoyment they can bring!

Kara's Aunty · 2 December 2009 · Chapter 1: 1 - The Fool

Hello Larner, how very Pippin! How very sweet! And how very like Gandalf to pretend he begrudges the compliment (when we all know he loves him really)! M :)

Author's reply

Yes, Maureen, Gandalf appears to have held great affection for the Tooks! And thanks so for the feedback.

shirebound · 2 December 2009 · Chapter 2: 2 - The Magician

Saruman definitely had a mind of wheels and machines. What a tragedy.

Author's reply

You are so right, Shirebound. Wheels and so-called progress.

Kitty · 2 December 2009 · Chapter 2: 2 - The Magician

Oh, not good! It is so sad that Gandalf's lovely fireworks gave Saruman the wrong ideas!

Author's reply

I see Saruman struggling at times to outdo Gandalf--defintely a touch of insecurity and competitiveness to him. And if he could find a means to use Gandalf's toys, it could prepare him one day for a certain pot at Helm's Deep!

Kitty · 2 December 2009 · Chapter 1: 1 - The Fool

Ah, nice to know that Gandalf is beginning to see that this 'Fool of a Took' has a lot of hidden qualities! He may have sometimes been too impulsive, but he certainly made up for that.

Author's reply

I'm certain Gandalf saw the promise within Pippin, and was most p;eased to see it at work as they traveled. Impulsive, but already seeing where and what help might be needed and dealing wth what he could.

harrowcat · 2 December 2009 · Chapter 1: 1 - The Fool

Certainly not a fool by any definition i know - young, impetuous, occasionally thoughtless...... but not a fool. Clever idea this one Larner.

Author's reply

Thank you, Harrowcat. It's fun to do these sometimes.

shirebound · 2 December 2009 · Chapter 1: 1 - The Fool

I always enjoy it when Gandalf contemplates "his hobbits". Dear Pippin. :)

Author's reply

And he certainly had reaont to contemplate these four and Bilbo, didn't he? Heh! Thanks, Shirebound.
