· Chapter 12: A new beginning
I read this a few weeks ago and meant to leave a review but real life got in the way (bleh!). I really enjoyed this story. It was full of suspense and there were times when I was (metaphorically speaking) biting my nails and sitting on the edge of my seat wondering if they were going to find Elladan in time. I liked the way the Elves dealt with the evil mayor and his despicable son and the way they rewarded the young couple who cared for Elladan. A well thought-out story with a very satisfying ending.
Author's reply
Hi Fiondil, thanks so much for the review. I´ve nearly forgotten about the story, albeit it was always my favourite. I´m glad you liked the story and that the suspense worked. Hope you have any nails left? I considered how the elves should deal with the men and thought first about something like a death sentence, but then remembered that elves would not like kinslaying und resented to this version and many agreed with me including you. Thanks! I liked the young couple also very much and the reward at the end was well given and my wish. I had done it this way. Thanks for the time to share your thoughts. I realy appreciate it. Lai

Why did they not just take Elrohir with them in the wagon...
Author's reply
I have considered this, but I think Elrond did not want another ill child in the wild, rather he wanted to bring Elladan home as quickly as possible to bring them together and initiate the true healing. Lai

Good ending to a difficult situation. Nicely handled, with the Men dealing with their own. Sorry the old man was killed, though.
Author's reply
I was not sure about how to handle the men. First I thought about that the only answer to this crime could be death, but elves are sentitive about kinslaying and so I deemed it best to let the men deal with their own. I´m glad you like the ending. Thanks so much for following the story and for reviewing. Lai

· Chapter 11: Wandering in the dark
Nicely written, quite absorbing, however I can't help but feel dreadfully sorry for these three. The amount of angst and whumping they get from us fanfiction writers, it's a wonder that they manage to function in a Middle-earth torn by strife and war at all! On a serious note, Tolkien wrote so little about these two sons of Elrond. He didn't even really state outright that they were twins, just that they were very alike. All he said about them was:
"So much alike were they, the sons of Elrond, that few could tell them apart: dark-haired, grey-eyed, and their faces elven-fair, clad alike in bright mail beneath cloaks of silver-grey" (Tolkien 761)
There is a popular theory that twins do share a bond of some kind. Many identical twins experience the same thought patterns because of their shared genes and there are some studies that appear to back that up with real life instances. The mysterious similarities in the thought patterns of identical twins are truly mind-boggling. Besides similar thoughts, many twins experience a unique pathological bond.
Pathologically, twins share a bond unlike any other. Many twins experience ESP and the ability to share one another's consciousness (Bowles-Reyer). This is known as the nonlocal or universal mind. A physicist named J.S. Bell developed Bell's Theorem, a hypothesis explaining nonlocal mind.
It said that when two subatomic particles come into contact with each other and are then separated, a change in one particle could cause a similar change in the other, instantly and to the same degree. In the 1960's, to test this hypothesis, researchers pointed a light at one twin's eye and found that the other twin's brain-wave pattern changed in response. Besides tests, many people's personal experiences have helped to prove Bell's Theorem.
Tolkien never states that Elladan and Elrohir were identical twins, but given that they were so alike I suppose they must have been, rather than fraternal twins who still have a bond, just not as deep.
Whatever the facts or reasons, those two poor twin sons of Elrond get beaten within an inch of their lives, shot by arrows, tortured almost unto death, poisoned and suffer hideous injuries on a regular basis. I imagine that far from staying in Middle-earth after their sister died, they probably hotfooted it over to the West just for a bit of peace!
Author's reply
wow, what a long review. Thank you so much for it. And I´m very glad you find the story interesting, but here I must say it is only just that - a story...fiction... and you are right again Elrond must really be the best healer in all of Middle Earth otherwise our poor twins would not have survived the cruel stories we writer launch at them. I and many others love to write about them in unbelievable situations and obviously many readers like to read about it. Hope the twins will not leave too early for the west; who shall we torture instead? *g*
If the stories are realistic or not does not really matter. As long as all have fun....thank you nonetheless for your thoughts, I really appreciate them and hope you will enjoy the rest of the story. Lai

As Elrohir was not physically wounded, why did they not bring him to Elladan? But the decision to reunite them is excellent! Poor Glorfindel!
Author's reply
Hi Larner, Elrond told me that he was pretty glad that at least on of his sons was at home and in his wont surroundings. To take Elladan home seemed the most quick and acceptable way then to bring Elrohir also in an unknown situation. I´m glad you still like the story and you are right...poor Glorfindel. I think they should have taken Elrohir to Elladan and not the other way around. But then again, maybe Elrohir is worse off than Elladan at this point. Poor Glorfy and horse on the long journeys so close together. I hope they make it in time!
Author's reply
Hello Ellie, you are right Elrohir is as bad as Elladan; it had made no difference. The journey home is indeed a long one and dangerous too.....
Hope to see you at the next chapters and thank you so much for reviewing. Lai
