Oh, how typical, men never ask for directions until they are totally lost do they? Lynda

Lovely conclusion to a lovely series--especially ending it all on a high note with the reunion of Elrond with his parents. Thank you so much! ~Celeritas

Celeritas · 16 December 2009 · Chapter 29: #29 - Mercy

I can't not think that Maedhros permitted the sparing of Elrond and Elros because of the misdeeds of Celegorm's servants back at Doriath. A touching display that really helps humanize the remaining sons of Feanor.

Celeritas · 16 December 2009 · Chapter 28: #28 - On the Oceans of Heaven

Somehow Tilion's fly-by shout made me laugh. This drabble brought to mind the first testimonies of real space explorers--how much more wonderful the night sky is without an atmosphere obscuring it. Nice work integrating that concept into Middle-earth.

Celeritas · 16 December 2009 · Chapter 27: #27 - First Rising

Again, I like your idea that these three elves would be the ones to not only recognize the new star as Earendil but also be able to spread such news among the people of Middle-earth. Smaller touches make the drabble really shine, though--mentions of sailing by the stars and the way the ship sails so smoothly with the Valar's blessing.

Celeritas · 16 December 2009 · Chapter 26: #26 - Comfort

I like Melian's explanation here--that the Doom of the Noldor would force others as well to act in certain ways to fulfill their fate. It's good that she is still looking out for her children with her wisdom here.

Celeritas · 16 December 2009 · Chapter 25: #25 - Presentation

Earendil's humble confusion here (especially liked that he thought the Silmaril would fix the trees!!) proves exactly why he is worthy to carry the jewel as a sign of hope. The description of Yavanna's hair was a nice little gem in the drabble.

Celeritas · 16 December 2009 · Chapter 24: #24 - Awakening

I really like the subtle way you convey Elwing's despair here, from the way she woke up to how desperately she tried to get rid of the jewel and hand it to her husband. No wonder Earendil decided there was nothing left but to go west!

Celeritas · 16 December 2009 · Chapter 23: #23 - The Price

I, at least, tend to forget that the actions of Dior, Elwing, et al. had consequences that went beyond their own lives and extended to those who might have wanted nothing to do with this jewel. Thanks for showing the other side of the story here.

Celeritas · 16 December 2009 · Chapter 22: #22 - Trapped

I really like getting alternate takes on the same thing, especially an event so profound and ambiguous as Elwing's flight (pun unintended!). Here the idea that it all came down to a clasp's not opening pleases my plot-minded sensibilities. Thanks!

Celeritas · 16 December 2009 · Chapter 21: #21 - Possession

I really like the almost creepy, dark tone this takes (especially when taken in conjunction with the title). One is left wondering who possesses whom, and the idea of the Silmaril having a voice and talking to its owner resonates through the Ages... Very, very powerful stuff.

Celeritas · 16 December 2009 · Chapter 20: #20 - Transformation

This really would have been a sight to see! I especially liked the inclusion of Elwing to support her husband.

Celeritas · 15 December 2009 · Chapter 19: #19 - Dreaming

I always felt bad for Elwing, having to abandon her family and then stuck in Valinor while her husband sailed the sky each night. I could definitely see this sort of thing happening--up until the time that she learned of her sons' fate and through her presumed reunion with Elrond.

Celeritas · 15 December 2009 · Chapter 18: #18 - Farewell

This is a nice look of Luthien that we don't get very often--an aging grandmother! She's still the same person, though, as shown by how gently she insists that she stay with her husband.

Celeritas · 15 December 2009 · Chapter 17: #17 - Lost

I always disliked Elured and Elurin's fate, too (who wouldn't?). Even sadder if you think they almost escaped. Well done.

Celeritas · 15 December 2009 · Chapter 16: #16 - West Wind

I like the idea of these three being harbingers in Middle-earth for Earendil's eventual rising. At least it explains how everyone knew what that new star was and what exactly it meant.

Celeritas · 15 December 2009 · Chapter 15: #15 - Choice

A sweet way of integrating the little information we have on Dior's fate to your previous ficlet. I especially liked how Dior's choice focused on Nimloth herself rather than that old mortality/immortality debate.

Celeritas · 15 December 2009 · Chapter 14: #14 - Advice

Now that I finally have the time to review the rest of these... I approve of your warped sense of humor here. The idea of Earendil, despite all of his prowess (or perhaps because of it?) being unwilling to ask for directions makes me smile.

Larner · 2 December 2009 · Chapter 30: #30 - Reunion I and II

This realization that he does have family living, and that they continued to care all during the years of separation, must have been so much a surprise, an almost unlooked for delight! The entire series has been perfect! Excellent inspirations to us all!

curiouswombat · 1 December 2009 · Chapter 30: #30 - Reunion I and II

What a wonderful series - I have so enjoyed looking for each new section and will miss it! what a perfect ending, though.

shirebound · 1 December 2009 · Chapter 30: #30 - Reunion I and II

These are so joyous. Lovely reunions!

utfrog · 1 December 2009 · Chapter 30: #30 - Reunion I and II

This made me cry! A beautiful series and very well done. Drabbles are not my favorite format, but yours were so good that I eagerly waited each update. Thank you so very much.

Fiondil · 1 December 2009 · Chapter 30: #30 - Reunion I and II

An excellent series, Rhyselle. I enjoyed it very much. Thank you for sharing your vision of the Peredhil with us.

Raksha The Demon · 30 November 2009 · Chapter 29: #29 - Mercy

A good look at one of my favorite moments in the Silmarillion. If only Maedrhos and Maglor could have stayed away from the Silmarils; they might have been able to greet Elrond when he eventually comes to Valinor. (darned Oath!)

Raksha The Demon · 30 November 2009 · Chapter 30: #30 - Reunion I and II

Awwwwwwwwwwww.... A lovely drabble series ends with a very poignant moment - love it that Elrond didn't remember his father but still responded to him so strongly, and Earendil's joy was very moving.
