Brilliantly crafted plot. Thank you!!!

mystarlight · 22 April 2019 · Chapter 3: Balrog the Third

Glorfindel's speech made me hold my breath!!!

mystarlight · 22 April 2019 · Chapter 2: Balrog the Second

I love the way you presented Glorfindel's feelings. Characters are great and I am only worried that story will be ended soon.

mystarlight · 22 April 2019 · Chapter 1: Balrog the First

Wonderful story thank you for sharing.

Larner · 7 November 2010 · Chapter 999: Epilogue: Goldilocks

A slow coming-back, as he learns to live again, finding a place for both past and present. And his healing continues as he marries history and future, and learns the nature of the world he has reentered. Most interesting!

Author's reply

That's precisely what I wanted to intend here, so your comment is so lovely to hear. Thank you once again!

Larner · 6 November 2010 · Chapter 3: Balrog the Third

Now, that WOULD be quite the thing to find there, in Elrond's house! An excellent test!

Author's reply

Heh, I'm glad you found it so! And glad again that you took the time to leave a comment, thank you!

Larner · 5 November 2010 · Chapter 2: Balrog the Second

Aha! Now we are actually beginning to come to know our companions. And Olorin has continued to fail to give anyone a name by which to know him. Most interesting!

Author's reply

Heh, I'm glad you find it so! Thank you again!

Larner · 5 November 2010 · Chapter 1: Balrog the First

It does so appear he has a good deal of acculturization to still go through. But he is in the best of hands at the moment. And Saruman sounds the officious jerk he proves himself in the end.

Author's reply

Yes indeed, there's a long journey ahead of Glorfindel and that not just on the road. I'm glad Saruman's voice rings true!

I'm enjoying this story so far. Nicely done and what a great exploration of Glorfy's first few weeks back in Middle-earth.

Author's reply

It's wonderful to hear you're enjoying the story. Thank you for reading and commenting! I hope the rest of it doesn't disappoint. ^^

Excellent story, but now you have to write the children's story! Am delighted to find your other Erestor stories which I am also enjoying. You are a skilled writer with good stories to tell. I know how hard it is to write and deeply appreciate your skill and willingness to share.

Author's reply

^^ Thank you so much for such a kind comment! I am glad you're enjoying my stories. I actually have written the children's story, although I'm not sure whether I'll post it here; it can be found on my LJ or my FFN account though.

I am finding your versions of Erestor and Melinna extremely enjoyable. I had just been thinking last week about the fact that there were many stories about Elrond, Galadriel and Legolas, but very few mentions of any length about Erestor. And here you have given us a new view of him in Wanderlust and now in Goldilocks. Erestor as a Morequendi with a competent partner, Melinna, how perfect is this. These stories are becoming highly anticipated by me and I can't wait for each new installment. In canon, somehow it seems that Elrond manages to get Erestor to settle down in a single location, and considering his long-held wanderlust, your explanation of that is going to be interesting :-) Thank you for filling out a character that I have always been very interested in.

Author's reply

Thank you for reading, and even more for reviewing so kindly! It's always so reassuring to hear people like my version of Erestor; most of my stories do touch in some way on (my version of) his life, so it would spoil my fun a bit if people didn't. I'm so glad you're enjoying the stories! (It's funny that you should mention Elrond getting Erestor to settle down -- I do have An Ending in mind, in fact I've had it in mind since before I started writing Wanderlust; but I still haven't got around to writing it and it may be the last serious bit of fanfic I ever write, so it's probably quite a long way off. We'll see!) Again, thank you! Author Reply: Thank you for reading, and even more for reviewing so kindly! I am fascinated by Erestor and Melinna as you have drawn them. I found myself going 'Of course!' when it became clear exactly why Cirdan asked them to be the guides of Glorfindel and the newly named Mithrandir, even though, like Glorfindel, it hadn't occurred to me as the journey proceeded. Thank you so much for this story.

Author's reply

Thank you so much for this comment! It's always so reassuring to hear that people like my version of Erestor and Melinna, and it's also reassuring to hear that the twist at the end of this came as a surprise, but not a jarring one, since that's precisely what I aimed for. I'm so glad you're still enjoying the story!

I had half a mind to to say this is your best story yet, but then I thought of Starlight and Nightingales, and of A Beleriand Treasury of Childish Tales, and then I could no longer make up my mind... You have a wonderful gift for blending together a variety of themes and tones that shift from the starkly poetic to the grin-inducing ironic without any jarring feelings. I also like how your stories are linked together in this loose, casual manner. And Erestor and Melinna - what can I say...

Author's reply

I'm going to sit here and gloat quietly for a moment now, don't mind me. ^^ ... yep, still gloating. Thank you for such a kind comment! I am glad everything blends together nicely; I suppose I find it hard to take the world too seriously or too lightly. The loose linking, well, it's more convenient for me to tell the overarching story in snippets and allusive bites, rather than pinning myself down to a single grand epic tale; I save my epic urges for original stuff. Besides, it's always fun to see if people spot the links. And I'm always grateful to hear that people like my version of Erestor and Melinna, no matter how many times they've told me already! :D *hugs!*

I was not at all sure that this story interested me from the title, though it sounded somewhat interesting. I am SO happy I tried it. This is absolutely delightful - very clever, full of wonderful characters and dialog and I have no idea where the author is going next. Thank you so very much.

Author's reply

Well, thank you for trying it out and I'm so glad you liked it! Maybe I should have tagged it with 'not a parody'... ^^

Now, this has been a delight to read, even with the five Istari arriving at the same time rather than spaced out as told in the Silmarillion. I love Curumo's great love of his own voice and his surety that Ulmo was somehow imbuing Glorfindel with important information, and his surprise when that didn't prove true; and the meeting with Cirdan and then Erestor and Melinna is even more delightful. Our white-garbed wizard has been put firmly in his place and still doesn't recognize that fact; and Glorfindel is retaining much of his ancient wariness and instincts for defense. Yes, for this one they need at least one horse! Heh! Now, to see they arrive in Imladris!

Author's reply

Again, thank you for reading and for such a kind review! I'm so glad you've enjoyed the story so far. The arrival of the Istari -- well, that is sort of complicated, depending on where you look for canon. I think the Silmarillion doesn't say explicitly that they all arrived separately, although it does say that 'Curunir was the eldest and came first, and after him came Mithrandir and Radagast, and others of the Istari who went into the east' -- so depending on how you feel, I think that could be read as indicating different arrival times or (as I'm reading it somewhat creatively here) as indicating a loose hierarchy. I know there are other versions in the Unfinished Tales etc. that explicitly indicate different arrival times, but since those versions contradict each other and sometimes also the Silmarillion, I tend not to feel bound by anything outside the Silmarillion itself. Anyway, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it... ^^

curiouswombat · 5 October 2009 · Chapter 1: Balrog the First

Hurrah! I think that sums it all up nicely...

Author's reply

^^ Thank you for saying that, it made me happy!
