please please please please pleas update! The story is much too good to be abandoned! Looking hopefully. Lai
Author's reply
I'm very very very sorry for the very late reply... RL hasn't been kind to me these months, and it's only about to get insane again. But I won't abandon this story. I just... lost the muse for some time, and lost the sapre time to write too. (I can't always steal time during giving lessons to the students, sadly, or the Headmaster would know. LOL) I'm glad you liked the story this much, and I'm sorry that the update hasn't come around yet. Actually, I'm rewriting the fic now, so the update will come even later. (Sorry for that!) I'm on Chapter 3 of the rewrite now so hopefully you'll get an update soon. There are two more chapters posted on FanFiction.Net from this version of the story, if you would just continue reading this version; but I'm rewriting and hopefully it won't take long, and you could just read the new version.
Again, I'm sorry for neglecting the story. And thank you very much for that ringing encouragement. It gives me fuel to rewrite the story much more eagerly. :) Thank you.

dear Eärillë, is there any chance that you will finish this wonderful story? Like it so much. Lai

· Chapter 6: The Evercold Part 1: The Offer
A most daunting journey to contemplate.
Author's reply
Very true... Well, Erestor might have exagerated several things, but he was in the dark, after all, and people tend to assume things they do not know. Besides, the Feanorians were really notorious around there.
This story is under a thorough revision. (Well, not a redo, no worries.) I will not post it here until it is finished, though. Hopefully I can update the next chapter here soon... It just needs some editting.
Umm. Once again, I am sorry for the lateness in replying... I could not help it. Well, at least now I can reply you properly.
Thank you very much for reading and reviewing, Larner.

· Chapter 5: Right Hand
The fact that he was criticizing Fimlin throughout the sparring must have been seen by the guard as being somewhat condescending, and increased the respect of the rest of the spectators as they watched him win. Not precisely the callow youth they'd expected!
Author's reply
LOL Well, let us say he had his own surprises to 'hand out'... *grin* I think it is the inevitable aspect of strangers meeting each other for a prolonged period of time. You provided a very accurate summary of what the spectators would think and say to each other had I taken the point of view of Fingon's people instead of Erestor. (Something I have not yet dared to attempt, truthfully.) The training scene was actually intended to provide a deeper look into Erestor's character; he was always portrayed as flustered and unsure of himself in the other chapters, but it was not his whole personality. I came up with this when I was at the peak of my frustration of developing his character. (LOL) His 'teacher side' will be more pronounce in later chapters, but it only comes slowly into view, given how mobile and action-based his life was forced to be in such a dark time.
Glad you seemed to think the training made the people see Erestor beyond his timid, unassuming self. It was my aim all along. :)

Indeed, a family to delight in, and to take him by surprise!
Author's reply
Yes, and a family to nag him around too. LOL I suppose he would still sort of reel from the 'unexpectedness' of the situation and the personality of the two royalties for some time. Poor chap. Thank you for read-rviewing, by the way. I thought you lost interest in the story...

· Chapter 6: The Evercold Part 1: The Offer
Great chapter. I like how close Erestor and Ereinion have become and Erestor's apprehension about the visit to Himring. I, for one, can't wait to meet the sons of Feanor and their home. And I am really sad that Fingon will leave soon enough.
I hope to read more chapters soon.
And congratulation on your graduation.
Author's reply
I am really, really sorry for the very belated reply. The button vanished on me... for quite a long time. Rather devestating. But at least now it has appeared again... right when I am back on the site.
Thanks for the congrats. I am relieved I am out of college now... but now I find out that the state of joblessness does not mean one is free of works to do, or that it is nice at all. LOL
Fingon's disappearance cannot be helped... if I am to stay true to canon. If I could help it, I would like to keep Gondolin free of Morgoth's hands. But then it would make an AU story, and besides, I cannot deal with the ramifications from that one thing only.
LOL Seems like you were more excited about the trip than Erestor...
Fingon and Ereinion will get a chapter for themselves, although it is a just a filler. Well, but it will not be until 3 to 4 chapters from now... I am glad you enjoyed Erestor's brotherly relationship with Ereinion. It will not be so quick in the rewrite, but I am glad you seem to think this one is still reasonable... Well, I think so myself, but I am still left unsatisfied.
The story is under rewrite, yes. (Well, more a thorough revision than a redo.) But I will not post the new one here until it is finished. I will hopefully be able to post the next chapter soon. Hopefully I can still catch your interest and attention after so long vanishing from the face of the earth...
Thank you for reviewing.

Hi. I really like your story, I think is excellent. I love your characterization of Fingon and how the relationship between him and Erestor evolves as well as the one between Ereinion and Erestor. I'm looking forward to reading more of them.
Author's reply
Thanks! I am really, really, really sorry for the lateness in replying to your review. I was swamped with the administration things I had to do for my graduation from university, ad that problem was coupled with how crankily my Internet connection behaved... Well, it still does, but at least now I got the time to do things online.
Anyway, I am very glad that you like this story. I am always anxious f there is something wrong with the interactions, since I am 'playing' with known - and much at it, too - characters... Well, I guess that is my fault of choosing to work with them in the first place. We shall see more interactions in the coming chapters, but Fingon will - sadly - have to leave soon. I hope you would not mind? Well, Erestor and Ereinion will still be there, though. And there is more... interesting... interaction between Erestor and another party which will be introduced in Chapter 6. :)
Thank you again for read-reviewing! And I am sorry for my chattery reply. (*blush*)

· Chapter 3: Substitution
Very sad, and terrifying indeed the vision of his future! No wonder Erestor feels overwhelmed--but not too overwhelmed to try to ease Ereinion's distress!
Author's reply
Indeed. Well, I still cringe when I reread the vision part - and to think that I am the writer of that! *blush* Oh well.
I suppose Erestor's ability to soothe Ereinion was due to a sense of duty. Who knows that this ellon had it in abundance? :) It would be worse, anyway, if Erestor did not react in time. Fingon's subsequent action might not be favourable...
Thanks for reading and reviewing, Larner! :)

· Chapter 3: Substitution
Hello!
The chapter was great, loved it. :)
While it might have been a little confusing when Fingon suddenly embraced Erestor like that, it was brilliantly executed as you moved into the 'vision' and into the main idea. The chapter was well organized, and the word choice portrayed the depth of everything perfectly.
The way that Fingon views Erestor was tender and well written - fluff abounding, it was like hugging a fuzzy teddy bear at that point, and again at the end with Erestor and Erin! :3
While Erestor may be the 'substitution', I hope that Fingon will still mainly focus his attention on his son, to soak up everything he can before his death.
Awesome job and I can't wait for more!
Take care,
MP
Author's reply
Thank you very much! (Wow. A long review! O_O :D)
I am glad I did not blunder in this chapter... It is as if released from an annoying itch. Thanks. :)
Ah... Fluff... I can never be rid of it, it seems. :) My stories usually fportray friendly or familial relationships, and fluff abounds there. Happy that you view it as nice rather than bothersome. Unfortunately I like it too much to change my mind about it. :D
Well, the two young ellyn came in a package, I think. I mean... Ereinion already latched to Erestor as though one to an older sibling, and it must not be easy separating them. But don't worry, I have planned some private moments between Fingon and Ereinion (seeing that he has had it with Erestor early in the story, as we have seen). I hope you will like it when it comes up (perhaps five chapters from now). For now, I am focusing on Erestor's relationship with Ereinion, because it will be vital later in the story, particularly after they have moved from Hithlum.
Again, thank you for the review, and I hope you will like the next update as well. (Yes. Thanks for the speedy beta-reading. :))

A good reception by the King, at least. And Erestor has managed a fair amount of grace in imparting this dread news.
Author's reply
Yes... at least Fingon understood the young ellon's predicament and received it as it was with grace. One of the traits of a good ruler, don't you think? :) Erestor did his best, but here his inexperience, youth, and a sundry other aspects won over his effort. Things will look up... a bit... in the next chapter, though. I will post it once my beta-reader returns it to me. Hopefully you will also like it. Thank you for taking time to comment on each chapter! The reviews are much appreciated.

And such would indeed have been a most surprising mode of transportation indeed!
Author's reply
LOL Yes. Who would think that an Eagle would deign to carry a messanger like a saddle horse? (Certainly it had never crossed Erestor's mind...) I sort of thought of that when reading the part of Silmarillion where Thorondor helped Fingon free Maedhros by carrying him up the cliff where Maedhros was hung by a wrist. :) Glad you liked it. Thanks for the review!

Great, GREAT second chapter! Your description for Fingon was perfect and I loved it, especially how he reacts to Erestor. :)
The only disappointment is that I can't read more! ;-) I am looking forward to more chapters from you, and soon. . .(hint, hint. Nudge, nudge.) ;D
Hope everything is going great!

Author's reply
Ah... Updates... Sorry, it can't be helped. I have sent the third chapter to my beta-reader to be fixed two days ago, but the returned one is not in my E-mail inbox yet. Well, then again, beta readers are not exempt from the evil that is procrastination. :) I experience it too while betaing other's work. LOL I'm glad you are excited about this story, though. (Me too!)
I am always afraid that one day a reader will find that Fingon's sharp change in mood makes the scene look disjointed... After all, it is my own opinion of it. Always, when someone commented about that scene, I was both curious and glad that the statement was not there. Weird, no? *shrug* Dunno...
Mmm. Before I go into a more confusing rant about self pity...
Thanks for reviewing. I will post the third chapter (called "Substitution" ;)) as soon as m y beta has returned the chapter to me and I have re-editted it. I beg for your patience... :)

Hello!
Well to start off, I love it! :)
I love your idea and how you describe the characters - very well done! And while you are conveying the troubled times, you are also giving more hope to the situation, I like it. :-)
Great job!
Author's reply
Thank you very much! :D I tried my best to present both the troubles and some hope/faith, but I didn't know if it worked... Now I do. ) I'm glad the message came through. Well, if not, then the words in the summary would have been in vain. :rueful:
Thanks for reviewing. I'm glad you like it. Hopefully you will be with me in the story until the end. ;)

It is so good to see you join this site! I am really looking forward to reading the rest of this. Will you also post your other stories?
I like how you make the reader see the story through Erestor's eyes. I could very vividly imagine his feelings.
Author's reply
Thank you very much for the warm welcome! Yes, I will post other stories, as long as they meet the guidelines of this site. In fact, I have just posted a one-shot about Aragorn.
There are too few stories about Erestor's youth; most of the existing stories which have him as the main character are about love... so I made this. :) Glad you like it so far. Hopefully the next update will be available soon.
(Foolish me. I forgot that I could reply publicly here. Well, consider this as a reiteration of my gratitude, then. *grin* Ah yeah, and a newby's mistake too. LOL :P)
