Brava! The perfect end to a most appropriate nightmare.

Author's reply

Yeah, nightmares are cool! ;-)

Agape4Gondor · 27 June 2009 · Chapter 4: Thursday

Delightful dream - and the witch king has his revenge!!!

Author's reply

Thank you for all your comments - I'm glad you're enjoying this.

Agape4Gondor · 27 June 2009 · Chapter 3: Wednesday

I love it! You slew the witchking.... Oh dear oh dear - there really is no hope, I'm afraid.... Traditions die hard, if die indeed they do!

Agape4Gondor · 27 June 2009 · Chapter 2: Tuesday

Oh dear! I can feel her claustrophobia.... talk about being a bird in a cage... and this one was a self-made cage. Poor thing... And I think she might very well be disappointed in Faramir's response.. Oh daar, oh dear!

Agape4Gondor · 27 June 2009 · Chapter 1: Monday

This was glorious (hideously) wonderful! Poor Eowyn - like so many of us - thinking blithly that the ceremony would be so simple and all its attendant pieces/parts would just flow.... NOT. As for Faramir - oh dear..... PS - I loved the descriptions - you write beautifully!

Elflingimp · 27 June 2009 · Chapter 4: Thursday

This is getting more hilarious by the moment, gosh what is it with this old Aunt! I'd tell her to take her tradition and the ugly dress and stuff it, nobody would ruin my wedding! I think........ Hugs The Imp

Author's reply

Glad you find this funny - I wasn't too sure whether the humour level would cut the mustard!

BM · 27 June 2009 · Chapter 4: Thursday

I'm surprised Faramir isn't dead yet from the comment he made at the end of the last chapter. I would have thought Eowyn would have lost her temper right there, grabbed her sword, and told him that she could just as easily slay him too if he did march out there and talk to his aunt right then! At the very least, she probably kicked him out right then and there. *grins* Poor Faramir has absolutely no idea, does he? I'm surprised Eowyn agreed to go so far as get fitted in the first place, and her desire to stay civil with Faramir's aunt is a testament to her love for him. Of course, with a woman like Eowyn, patience will only last so long, especially when dealing with someone like the aunt! I'm wondering if she decides to slay the dress.......And I'm sure the opportunity to switch dresses at the last minute on the wedding day won't work, either, as I'm sure the aunt will be there to make sure the dress goes on! Looking forward to seeing how Eowyn gets out of this! Question: Is the aunt Imrahil's remaining sister, or one of Denethor's? I was wondering because with her forcefulness and knowledge of the steward's family tree, she sounds like Denethor's sister, but you had Lothiriel calling her aunt, which makes her wound like Imrahil's sister. If she is Denethor's sister, why did Lothiriel call her aunt? Thanks for sharing! BM

Author's reply

Well, I deliberately left it to the reader to imagine how Eowyn would respond. Feel free to imagine Faramir with a black eye. ;-) Ivriniel is Imrahil's sister. I imagine her to be the kind of woman who takes an intense interest in the ruling family, regardless of how closely related she is to them.

utfrog · 27 June 2009 · Chapter 4: Thursday

Still enjoying this very much! Yes, I know I am at your "mercy" to change your ending, but I cannot believe such a good writer, with such a good story, would leave our Eowyn actually wearing the dress. You could always write 2 endings and post an AU which might be a lot of fun - especially the court, Arwen, and Faramir's reactions to the horror. I will be out of easy Internet access for a week. I will read and review as I can, but this story gives me something to look forward to in a rough week. Thanks again.

Author's reply

Thanks. I hope your week won't be too rough. If you're not pleased with the ending of this story, I give you leave to write the alternative version. ;-)

Larner · 26 June 2009 · Chapter 3: Wednesday

I so love the contrast between Lothiriel and her aunt, and the lovely relationship springing up already between Lothiriel and Eowyn. They are well prepared for the current generation, I think, and you can't say that Eowyn isn't well warned by her brother's beloved as to the nature of Ivriniel! Heh! Ah, what a situation! And absolutely love Lothiriel's description of that dress and how it will make whoever wears it look like a stuffed pheasant! How wonderful an image! Love it, love it, love it!

Author's reply

Thanks, I'm glad you're enjoying this.

ArianneG · 26 June 2009 · Chapter 3: Wednesday

Oh Eru! I laughed so hard at that last line I felt pangs in my chest! I think I cracked something in there...Poor Eówyn! Well--Witchking's Bane vs Stweard's sister Round 2... ding ding! *rings bell*

Author's reply

Thanks, I'm pleased I gave you a laugh.

Fantasia · 26 June 2009 · Chapter 3: Wednesday

I knew it! Men are cowards when confronted with wedding preparations and a dress!!! Well, Eowyn, better to start sharpening your sword...I can't wait

Author's reply

Maybe men are just cowards when confronted with tyrannical aunts. ;-) Glad you're enjoying this.

Linda Hoyland · 26 June 2009 · Chapter 3: Wednesday

Oh dear, I'm not surprised Faramir doesn't understand. He would not care if Eowyn wore an old sack for the wedding! Would Eowyn be allowed alone with Faramir in her rooms prior to the wedding in those days? I'm fascinated to learn what happens next!

Author's reply

I don't think people would have been so Victorian about it. In Regency times, for example, things were more liberal. For example, Marianne Dashwood's behaviour with Mr Willoughby is only frowned upon because she takes it to the extreme. Besides, we have to imagine that the maid was about. Glad you're enjoying this.

utfrog · 26 June 2009 · Chapter 3: Wednesday

Yep, Faramir is as useless as predicted. I still am "betting" on Eowyn. Love the story.

Author's reply

Thanks. You're a brave better. You know you put me in a position of power, because I can manipulate the outcome!

Larner · 25 June 2009 · Chapter 2: Tuesday

I so love the idea that she's imprisoned herself in her rooms in her attempts to avoid Aunt Ivriniel. Poor girl! I don't blame her, but have to admit having several giggles at her expense! Love this!

Author's reply

Oh, I'm pleased I made you giggle. ;-)

Linda Hoyland · 25 June 2009 · Chapter 2: Tuesday

Eowyn reminds me of how I felt when my computer went wrong! A brilliant description of feeling bored!

Author's reply

LOL. Poor you, yes, I can imagine that you were rather bored. Oc course, if Eowyn had had internet access, that would have opened up some possibilities...!

Linda Hoyland · 25 June 2009 · Chapter 1: Monday

Poor Eowyn having to wear such a hideous dress, your description of the garment made me shudder! I hope she can escape this dreadful fate!

Author's reply

It seems a fate worse than death, eh? ;-)

Sunny · 24 June 2009 · Chapter 2: Tuesday

Éowyn must figure out some way of getting permanently rid of that fashion disaster. If the damned thing is that old it just _has_ to be filthy – which means it needs cleaning! So she might send it to be cleaned with firm instructions: Use lots of strong soap, rub vigorously to get all the dirt out, and – just to be on the safe side – get somebody to sabotage the whole cleaning process. I can imagine it: Oooops, just _how_ did somebody put the soap for the floors in the water? And just _who_ let the goats in to where the dress was hung out to dry? (poor things, they got a tummyache!) Oh, well. I suppose she will figure out –something.

Author's reply

LOL, maybe you should write your own version of this story. I rather like goats. ;-)

Fantasia · 24 June 2009 · Chapter 2: Tuesday

Oh God, she will die of boredoem by the end of the week...She may ask Arwen? she is the Queen, she can starts new traditions...waht about Lothiriel? Eomer has shingles? That is a very nasty and painful illness and I would think that will be a very slow recovery sickness in old times. I had it 11 yrs ago (I even remember the month, imagine how painful was), poor Eomer....

Author's reply

Well, I had to get rid of Eomer somehow, because he didn't fit into the story. 'twas cruel to give him shingles, but at least I didn't give him swine flu!

Raksha The Demon · 24 June 2009 · Chapter 2: Tuesday

Poor Eowyn; she is bored and restless. I think it would have been better to find out more about Stewards' bridal traditions, and then talk tactfully and honestly with Ivriniel, than to feign illness and keep to her rooms. How many times can she do manicures and brush her hair?! And why do I have the feeling that Faramir won't necessarily solve this matter for her? I mean, he's a prince (in every sense of the word), but even princes are usually not up to date on their ancestors' bridal gown requirements. Looking forward to more!

Author's reply

Yes, I think this strategy has proved to be no use! ;-)

Raksha The Demon · 23 June 2009 · Chapter 1: Monday

I think Eowyn would rather be on the battlefield than have to deal with Auntie Ivriniel and The Dress From H*ll. Did Finduilas have really wear such a horror? Looking forward to the next chapter!

Author's reply

Well, Dreamflower thinks this is probably what sent Finduilas into depression and premature death. ;-) Thanks for reviewing.

BM · 23 June 2009 · Chapter 1: Monday

oh this is shaping up to be interesting! A great start and I'm looking forward to more of this little war between the two ladies--and to see Faramir's reaction to it!

Author's reply

Thanks, glad it's caught you imagination.

utfrog · 23 June 2009 · Chapter 1: Monday

Oh, this is going to be FUN. My $ is on Eowyn. May I guess that the Stewards tended to marry in the winter? Thanks

Author's reply

Thanks to you, too. Are you really betting? ;-)

Larner · 23 June 2009 · Chapter 1: Monday

Ah--it is to be day by day here, eh? Wonderful! Yes, the slayer of the Witch-king has met her match in determination now! And the dress sounds just as awful the second time through as the first time! Poor Eowyn! Heh! I'd MUCH rather wear the green gown myself! Heh!

Author's reply

Well, day by day seems to make some sense. I kind of wrote it like that with chapters in mind. Please don't feel obliged to review every chapter. You'd rather have the green dress? Well, I'd never! ;-)

Fantasia · 23 June 2009 · Chapter 1: Monday

Well, she did kill the Witch King, hope that she can defect his Queen...Poor Eowyn..Glad that you are back.

Author's reply

Hmm, I had thought of Ivriniel as a maiden aunt, but maybe she did have an affair with Angmar...? Possibly not. ;-) Thanks for reviewing.

Socrates399 · 23 June 2009 · Chapter 1: Monday

It's not real, right? She's just making it up out of spite?

Author's reply

We shall see, shall we? ;-)
