· Chapter 9: I Finally Get to Bree
(I forgot to say, I love how Trotter got his Ranger-name!)
Is there a tune for that song, by the way? I've got it running 'tunelessly' through my head and want something to sing it to. It's so cute! And better than One Hundred Apple Pies, whether in Common or Elvish no doubt...

· Chapter 8: The Men of the West
"Who are you Rangers?"
Blunt and to the point! LOL! Miss Dora would not quite approve, I think (But then, she's not born yet, else I think she'd disapprove of this whole Adventure!)

· Chapter 7: I Make Myself Useful
Oh, Dreamflower!
I wish I had a Hildifons (or any good hobbit, really) to cook for me - or to teach me to cook like that! I envy those Rangers; these Dunedain have found a definite reason to keep Hildifons around! :) I'm jealous of them, the meal sounds good for sure!(Some of the things I hadn't heard of, and I'm not sure wild onion would be any better for me than tame onion, which certainly isn't, but I'm sure a hobbit like Hildifons could help me figure out what was and wasn't safe for me to eat.)

· Chapter 6: Rescued
Hildifons Chubb, indeed! Heh! Well, he didn't try to keep that up for long - a good thing! It's good that now he's among friends!

· Chapter 5: Interlude: Dark Memories
Goodness, poor Bilbo! But yes, of course he would have nightmares about his own experiences, after reading *that*! Nothing could be more natural than that. Luckily, as he realized, of course Hildifons turned out all right in the end!

· Chapter 4: Among the Brigands
My dearest Dreamflower,
Worse and worse for poor Hildifons! :( Poor lad! (Except at the very end of course, but *he* doesn't know that!) Even unconsciousness, followed as it will be by such a quick rescue is better than all the abuse he suffered. If Adamanta had ever heard this, it would have broken her heart even worse.

· Chapter 3: Terror in the Night
Oh Dreamflower, 'shuddersome' doesn't even begin to cover this chapter! (Although the remark that the Barrow-wights would be worse, later, is right! Eeek!) But this is terrible enough for poor Hildifons! *wants to hug the poor lad* I'm so glad we know he got through it all right (Obviously, or where did the book come from?)

· Chapter 2: Beyond the Bounds
/If I showed my face at Brandy Hall, news would quickly be sent to the Thain by the new Master of Buckland, Marmadoc Brandybuck. I had met him a time or two, and I had no doubt he would find a way to detain me until my father should fetch me home. His folk, I had heard by way of gossip, were already calling him “the Masterful”. No, I had no wish to encounter him./
*chuckles* Ah, Dreamflower, I can just imagine! I do wonder what it would have been like if our Trotter-to-be *had* encountered Marmadoc? One never knows...

· Chapter 1: Unlucky at Love
Ah, I see, Dreamflower - so Norbert Longbottom is the hobbit for Miss Sackville, is he? I have to say, I don't know whether to be mad with him or pity him - and what relation is Gardenia to Camellia, I wonder? I've been doing a *huge* family tree of hobbits and how they all relate to each other - you know your hobbits have made themselves near enough canon to me. :) I do wonder what she and her Master Longbottom have to do with Otho, Lobelia, and Lotho! Hm...

· Chapter 0: Prologue: An Unexpected Discovery
My dearest Dreamflower,
I have re-read "Trotter" and have decided to inundate you with a number of reviews :D perhaps you will like them, I hope!
I knew those rooms couldn't have been made just for Bilbo, and it just makes so much sense for Hildifons, also, to have retired to Imladris! Why not, after all? :) I am glad Bilbo finally gets the chance to meet his uncle, so to speak!

· Chapter 32: Interlude: A Life Well-Lived
This was all wonderful and I am sorry to see it end. Like Bilbo, I will probably read it again at some point. Thank you.

· Chapter 31: The Last Homely House
Hildifons did a wonderful job on his story with your help of course. I enjoyed this very much and I am certain that a journal like this would have been very comforting to Bilbo at that time in his life.

Poor Hildifons, ill again. I am glad he has the very best place to go to for healing and rest though.

· Chapter 29: The Fell Winter
It is so dreadful that Hildifons had to hear about his mother's death after years of not seeing her. I am very glad it was Gandalf that came to give him the news.

This fits so well with all of Tolkien's writings. You've done it again!

· Chapter 26: Interlude: Choices and Consequences
I like the way Hildifons' story makes Bilbo reflect upon his own life and his own writing. They are connected but they are still very different. Bilbo did still have a choice even after all he'd been through. Hildifons was not as lucky.

· Chapter 25: Hard Truths
Leave it to Gandalf to make Trotter see that had he not been there, his friend would have died. Gandalf really knows all about hobbits and exactly how to get them beyond difficult times.

· Chapter 24: Bad News
Oh, dear. I knew there would be an injury or a death because of the screaming but this surprised me. Now I begin to see why he never returned to the Shire and how he came to live in Rivendell long enough to keep a journal. Of all of the injuries that can happen to hobbits, anything to do with the feet must have been very frightening indeed!

· Chapter 23: Disaster
I'm so glad they arrived in time but now I must rush on because there has to be a reason for the screams...
Oh, my! This was very exciting and a real nail-bitter. I'm glad I don't have to wait for the next chapter.

· Chapter 21: Rangering
I like the way he considers going home now and again. It makes it seem more as if he still cares for his family. His ability to remain away from them all of this time is very unhobbit-like and yet, knowing his reasoning makes it seem as if it might have happened just that way. I like his loyalty to the Rangers too. He reminds me of Bilbo when he says that 'the Rangers need him.'

· Chapter 20: Interlude: The Wizard's Point of View
Oh, I did love that! I adore that Gandalf's fireworks are only for the Hobbits. That says much about the innocence of the hobbits and about Gandalf's love for them. Perfect!

Slightly different spelling but still a nice title.

· Chapter 19: The Grey Wanderer
I liked Gandalf's reaction to it all. He was fair once he know that Trotter had tried to send word. Seems the post out of Bree has never been very reliable. LOL
Very entertaining chapter!
Author's reply
To one who was used to the excellent and dependable Shire post, the idea that a letter would never reach its destination would not enter his head!
But the truth is, without an official post system, messages were always very unreliable!
