Ah! Words have too many meanings. And yet tell nothing if one does not listen. Poor Denethor. Poor Faramir!

Mellia Bee · 24 August 2017 · Chapter 25: Descent
Reading this is making me want to read Lord of the Rings again. You do a beautiful job with your words. I especially liked the mist parting at the waterfall.
Mellia Bee · 24 August 2017 · Chapter 24: Battles Brewing
You do a good job juggling the multiple storylines and remembering what each person knows and doesn't know about Boromir. Nice.
Mellia Bee · 23 August 2017 · Chapter 21: 'Look After Them'
I always enjoy it when a chapter is done from the point of view of a background character, and you gave this one some depth, which was nice.

Thank you so much for all your lovely reviews today! I'm glad you are enjoying the story! Dûrlin is pretty much my favorite original character, and I really enjoyed giving him depth in this situation. He has a part to play in future chapters, as well. I've been neglecting working on this story, but your lovely reviews have been so encouraging that I have been moved to get my notes out -- it's been far too long since the last update! Thanks for reading and enjoying!
Mellia Bee · 23 August 2017 · Chapter 19: Conquering Despair
I never thought of it until now, but both Boromir and Denethor are very much alike in their determination to use all means at their disposal to save their land. For Denethor, that means using the Palantir beyond the bounds of safety. For Boromir, it means reaching for the ring (which is ABSOLUTELY not safe). Like father, like son. They are so very human.
Mellia Bee · 23 August 2017 · Chapter 18: He Will Not Return
You write Treebeard well. Feeling so badly for Faramir and his father!
Mellia Bee · 23 August 2017 · Chapter 17: Dreams of Battle and Loss
I came to this story in hopes of good brotherly feels - and so seeing Faramir mourn was pretty heartbreaking. Have I mentioned lately how much I'm enjoying this? Because I am, very much.
Mellia Bee · 23 August 2017 · Chapter 16: Nothing Left But Memories
Denethor has wandered for so long in such dark paths that I don't know if he has enough strength of soul left to withstand this.
Mellia Bee · 23 August 2017 · Chapter 15: Parting Words
This chapter was supremely satisfying. I especially like the way you refer to history and former interactions your original characters have with each other and the main characters. Rounds them all out, and makes them more believable.
Mellia Bee · 23 August 2017 · Chapter 14: Done With Waiting
I never knew how much I needed a Frodo-Sam talk about Boromir - not until right this moment. This chapter was perfect.
Mellia Bee · 23 August 2017 · Chapter 13: Well Met
Hooray! I was suddenly terrified that Boromir would do something rash, or they'd all walk into an ambush, so the ending of this chapter was supremely satisfying.
Mellia Bee · 23 August 2017 · Chapter 12: A Meeting on the Stair
Yay! Really liked Legolas's way of approaching armed and cautious men. That was well done.
Mellia Bee · 23 August 2017 · Chapter 11: Sleepless Nights
It never occurred to me how Denethor's knowledge must have looked to those unaware of the Palantir. I'm glad you include that angle.
Mellia Bee · 23 August 2017 · Chapter 10: Hill of the Eye of Númenor
Aha! I wondered what had happened to the other half of the horn! Also, I'm really enjoying the interaction between Legolas and Boromir.
Mellia Bee · 23 August 2017 · Chapter 9: News By Water and Vision
It's fascinating to see the story unfold from the perspective of Gondor's men!
Mellia Bee · 23 August 2017 · Chapter 8: The Burden of Fear
This is the first Lord of the Rings fic I've ever liked so much. You do a beautiful job with your writing, and the bit where wounded Boromir staggers into the river to wash the blood off just turned my heart inside out. Really enjoying this so far!
obsidianj · 24 November 2016 · Chapter 54: Time Grows Short
All the forces are readying for the final battle. At least Boromir and Merry have met. Will Denethor survive also? Or will it be too late for him? That should prove an interesting dynamic if Denethor and Aragorn met again. I always thought that Denethor's death was a very convenient to get him out of the way of Aragorn's claim to the throne.
Larner · 3 November 2016 · Chapter 54: Time Grows Short
I love to see the hope in these three as they look to finish their long journey to Minas Tirith. And Boromir has chosen well the person to see to Merry's safety, little realizing that it is Merry who will be seeing to Dernhelm's safety in the end.
shirebound · 27 October 2016 · Chapter 54: Time Grows Short
Oooh, everything's coming together! I'm enjoying this story very much.
BM · 5 September 2016 · Chapter 53: All Is Lost
Ah, a wonderful treat to see a new chapter to this story! Poor Faramir; and poor Boromir! I do wonder at what point you plan to allow him entry to the city, and what part he will play in Faramir's healing. But I can also imagine what hope his appearance will bring to his people--the arrival of the Rohirrim in the book was a hope unlooked for when all seemed lost to the men of Gondor; it must be 10 times that if their beloved captain returns as well! One question I have, though: I noticed when I looked at the chapter list, that the chapters went from 52 to 54. What happened to 53?
Author's reply
Oops! Thanks for catching my mistake with the chapter numbers. It should have been Chapter 53 -- I must have put 54 by mistake because some writing that didn't fit in the current chapter was used to start Chapter 54! Thanks for reading and commenting!
Larner · 4 September 2016 · Chapter 53: All Is Lost
Certainly at this point the Enemy does not wish for Denethor to see anything that might give him hope, and will show the Lord Steward only all indications that no army could hope to stand against Mordor's massed forces. And I hope that he cannot see Aragorn in the Paths of the Dead and working his way to and up the river, or the forces of Rohan being led through the forest by Ghan-buri-Ghan and his folk. At least he has no appreciation for the mismatch between Frodo's mithril shirt and Sam's sword to realize that the senseless foe found outside Shelob's lair was not alone. His darkness limits his own appreciation for the forces coming against those of Mordor.
shirebound · 2 September 2016 · Chapter 53: All Is Lost
Imrahil's concern for Pippin makes me smile. :)
Lindelea · 3 July 2015 · Chapter 44: Rekindling Hope
This is so familiar: "You are not 'up'," Gandalf said sternly, "until you are out of bed with your two feet on the floor and your eyes open." LOL! I love the discussion between Faramir and Pippin. (I am also sad not to find two of my favourite characters, Beregond and his son Bergil, in the scenes in Minas Tirith. Are they yet to come, or do they not fit in this version? Regardless, you are doing a marvellous job.)
Lindelea · 3 July 2015 · Chapter 52: Reunion
Ah, the healing of hobbits, and the fierceness of their friendship. It is amazing how well this version fits in with the events in the original version. I look forward to reading how the whole tale spins out. Surely Denethor must have a happier ending...! (Or perhaps not, but how sad to contemplate.)
demeter d · 30 June 2015 · Chapter 52: Reunion
Just exactly the kind of chapter that "Boromir Lives" fans would hope for. Boromir has Merry's forgiveness. Now, perhaps he can begin to forgive himself. The bit about "screwing up his courage to leave" comes directly from the book, by way of Sam. I do believe that was what was going through his head as he decided to follow Frodo. Having the company and love of a friend can only help them both to face what will come.
