Awww this is sooo sweet! I love glimpses of the dear royal family being...well, a typical family. Especially love this:
“I hope to be back by then. And what would you wish as a gift?”
“A monkey!” he said happily.
“You are a monkey,” Melian advised him. “Look at you--you just dropped your fork again!”
*giggle* The little prince is definitely all boy, bless him, and his prim sister is quite the proper young lady. :D
Author's reply
Oh, yes, a typical brother and sister, him young enough to think a monkey sounds to be a grand gift! Heh!
I love imagining Isengar, who had gone to sea, found the attentions of the children sometimes wearing, particularly when he was trying to sunbathe. I suspect he picked up the habit while serving aboard ship.

I don't know this bit, but the imagery is lovely, and now I see what you're doing with the elements, very clever.
Author's reply
The tale of Erendis and Aldarion is in "Unfinished Tales," and is a tragic one. An excellent character study of a disfunctional family. He was one of the kings of Numenor, and their daughter followed him, finding herself poorly suited to the role of ruler of the island nation after her mother came to resent her husband's love of sailing.

LOL! Poor Frodo with the violin, oh dear! I tried that once...and I was a wimp and put it away, saying primly when Mom tried to force me, that I couldn't lose my ability to read well just yet. :P
Author's reply
Oh, but I can understand that! My stepdad used to play the violin, and my attempts to play it only brought forth unearthly shrieks from the thing. I understand Little Bro became quite good at it, but then he was bringing out recognizable tunes the first time he tried a bugle, and could play both trumpet and drums well, too. But to callous your reading fingers perhaps to find you had no talent at it--I can certainly appreciate just why you demurred!
Wow, "We won the battle with a bottle of wine." :)
Author's reply
Well, actually with an early version of a Molotov cocktail, but we shan't tell them that! Thank you, my Lady!

*whoosh*wipes hand across forehead!*
You are still getting it! And this one made a nice plausible conversation between Gimli and the Lady.
But a fork hanging as a pendant? What a picture that made, LOL!
Author's reply
Well, not worn as a pendant, but hanging pendant so it doesn't hit the floor, at least.
Am managing to get it, but it's still difficult to feel comfortable working "cookie" into a Tolkien-based story! Heh!

What a naughty monkey!I feel sorry for the captain!

I agree, Linda--but he's just being true to being a monkey after all. As for the Captain--oh, I pity the man, too!

What a variety of treasures!
Author's reply
As a sailor, he would have brought home things from all over, and as a Hobbit he would have loved cooking and baking ware, don't you think? And a prism would delight anyone!
Thanks so, Linda.

I would pay a lot for a bottle of Pippin-energy. *grin* On second thoughts, I don't need any as all I need is to harness a bit of Jet-power. He is missing the Boss and is constantly pestering me for attention. I am having to type one handed.
Author's reply
Oh, I bet he is missing your dad! The dalmatian when she's feeling ignored can be SO persistent, as can my tomcat!
And some days we'd all love some youthful energy again! Heh!

"I feel like a rowboat with a hole in it sinking just short of the wharf."
Boy, I can relate to that, this time of year! Another good ficlet!
Author's reply
Oh, don't I know, Cairistiona. And dealing with Paladin and Eglantine's four as well as Merry and whatever other children are at the Yule party at the farm at Whitwell (or at the Great Smials) I suspect they've worn poor Frodo out!
Thank you.

Oh dear! So Pip will bring an end to the poor monkey!
A nice little interlude back in the Shire! How many more of these are to go? And how long will your word list be by the end?
Author's reply
Well, as it's an Advent project, it shall continue to the twenty-fourth. Seven more words to add by the time we're done!
And I suspect Pippin will be the end of Isengar's stuffed monkey, as rambunctious as the child is. Heh!
Author Reply: Correction--NINE more words. GADS!

(I have to confess the word "cookie" bothers me. I know it's in the prompt though, so no help for it.)
Very melancholy.
Got to tell you, at first I read "for love or money" as "for love or monkey" and thought that was how you worked that challenging word in.
How are you doing? Snow or ice there? We have very icy snow, and heavy wind at the moment. *shiver* Our internet keeps going out, and the phone's been out all day.
Author's reply
I know--biscuit is the proper word for Tolkien, but gotta go with what is there. And monkey and violin are often difficult to work in, too, for some reason. But that you read "love of monkey"? Oh, that is funny!
We had about six inches of snow, and it's icy here where I work. Compact snow at home. Roads are bare and well sanded, and the Taurus does have studded snow tires, so I'm not too worried. Although Olivia works well with her front-wheel drive. Once I get the headlight replaced I'll be able to drive Olivia again until we can get the transmission functioning properly on the Taurus. Can't get a name for the Taurus--keep thinking "Linda," not that Linda has good connotations associated with it.
No problems with power, thank heavens and knock on wood! Most of the lines have been replaced to within a mile of my house--wish they'd get that last mile done, as then I'll finally be able to get cable and DSL, supposedly! Dialup is frustrating!
Anyway, thanks so! Supposed to be wind here tonight--we've had some all day long. A light additional dusting of snow this afternoon--now to see what the coming night brings.
