Dear Avon: This was a very moving story, as well as a beautifully descriptive one. You did a fine job of portraying the nobility of the Rangers in general and Strider in particular, as well as the isolation, loneliness, frustration, and fear that all come with such a duty as theirs. Well done. I enjoyed reading this story. Thank you for writing and posting it. Sincerely, Darkover

What a lovely, poignant glimpse of the life of Rangers! I really enjoyed the details of this--very evocative from the first sentence forward. I love how you contrast the life of those they protect with the life they themselves lead--the Dúnedain really are above lesser men, and Aragorn in particular. Well done!

A song of power--a restful song, a restful power, releasing these to Mandos and beyond. Alas that they have lingered far too long amongst the living when it is time to pass onward. And the other vignettes and tellings forth--all so very right. Yes, keeping the faith they are! Love our Aragorn.

Oh, this is so, so... Too "WOW" for any words. and since English was a 2nd tongue I'm not sure how to say it. I love Aragorn in this story, anyway.

Linda Hoyland · 15 November 2008 · Chapter 1: Keeping the Faith

This is hauntingly beautiful and poetic, while at the same time capturing the ceaseless struggle against evil that Aragorn fights.

Estelcontar · 14 November 2008 · Chapter 1: Keeping the Faith

This is indeed a most subtle, emotional, insigtful and lyrical depiction of who the rangers are, and what they stand for. And no one better than Aragorn, the quintessential ranger, to embody their strenght, wistfulness, compassionateness and their selflessness. It is exquisitely done indeed.

Oh my. First, this is gorgeous in its evocative details. The descriptions are fantastic and speak not only of a facility with words but also of a sharp observation of the world. In addition, the portrayal of the rangers is inspiring. You give us their long history and the way they keep the faith still. Just a stunning job.

Gosh... thank you! I'm really pleased you liked it that much. I'm just a bit stunned by the very nice reviews I'm getting.

meckinock · 13 November 2008 · Chapter 1: Keeping the Faith

Gosh, this is beautifully written. You have such a gift for description and setting. Aragorn stands out here as such a solitary, pensive, compassionate and yet powerful figure.

Thanks, Meckinock. It's great to know that people like it - I'm still at the not sure stage myself. I started and restarted this a good half dozen times trying to find a way to explore what a Ranger actually does. Sometimes Aragorn was there, sometimes not. Finally, I came up with this combined structure - and I'm very pleased to hear that people think it worked.

This was wonderful. I don't quite understand all of what is happening, but I do know that I like it... I like these snippits of Aragorn's life as a Ranger. Well written, and well done.

Thank you! Like most of my stories there is no real plot - just images.

shirebound · 13 November 2008 · Chapter 1: Keeping the Faith

What a marvelous, moving, lyrical glimpse of the Men of the West... a tale of the guardians, and what (and who) they guard. Their diligence and courage... stern with the darkness and gentle with those who live simple lives. What a lonely, patient life, with little but hope to go on. Well done.

Thank you very much, Shirebound. I'm really pleased that you liked it. I just got fascinated by the question of what do the Rangers actually do.
