daw the minstrel · 13 October 2008 · Chapter 4: A Perfect Gift

Oh, Nana is right. That is perfect. What a sweetie. And one who's being raised right too. Good for firm loving parents.

Author's reply

Yes, what a sweetie! I really enjoyed trying to find the right note to hit with the little Prince in this story - he was ticked off, but still wanted to do something special for his naneth on her special day (after all, he wanted it to be PERFECT for her). So showing his little temper fit, along with Ada's dealing with it (by reminding his son that he is the heir - a Prince of his father's realm - and should behave accordingly, no matter what) and then balancing that with the little private party he planned I hoped would show both sides. He did turn out to be a little charmer, too...learned that at his Adar's knee! Thank you, daw! I do enjoy your reviews! linda

thechevin · 13 October 2008 · Chapter 4: A Perfect Gift

Fluff, but perfect fluff. These little glimpses into the early life of Legolas and his Ada are a real treat and they allow us to see why and how he became the elf we know in adult life But it is the little things that delight so much, the repetition of the 'no running' rule and the threat of an 'Ada punishment' which if I recall was according to Legolas always worse than that of his mother and to be avoided at all costs. As for his love for his naneth and the way he chose to show it, well I suspect I was not the only one reaching for the tissues! An absolute delight

Author's reply

Oh!! *claps hands wildly for thechevin* You remembered! Yes, an 'Ada punishment' is to be avoided if at all possible, and as you can see here, Legolas is learning that lesson at an early age. I couldn't think of anything more PERFECT (the prompt) than an elfling!Legolas planning a special party for his Nana on her special day, all by himself. Just melted my heart, it did! :-) Thank you for the delightful review - I do appreciate them so much! linda

thechevin · 13 October 2008 · Chapter 3: A Gift for a Friend

Ah this was lovely and showed the great love the Fellowship had both for each other and their wider group of friends and it was nice to see Pippin and Merry finding something to help 'Strider' on this particular day Thanks

Author's reply

Hey, thechevin! I guess Pip and Merry could cheer anyone up, given half a chance! And they wanted to help 'Strider' get past his grief somehow. I'm glad you enjoyed the story. Thank you for the kind review. linda

Larner · 12 October 2008 · Chapter 4: A Perfect Gift

Ah, so sweet a begetting day! Love the child!

Author's reply

Thank you, Larner. Isn't he a sweetie? And such a proper little elfling, too! I really enjoyed thinking of a way he could make his Nana's day PERFECT, especially if he wasn't able to attend the whole party! Thanks again for the review - I appreciate you taking the time! linda

Silivren Tinu · 12 October 2008 · Chapter 3: A Gift for a Friend

That was a beautiful story and a worthy remembrance of Halbarad. He is seldom mentioned in fanfiction after his death and I loved that you showed us how much Aragorn grieved for him. Merry and Pippin's idea was perfect - I believe there is no better way to overcome grief than to remember all the good times you had with your friend, and having all your other friends around you while doing so makes it even better. :) Almut

Author's reply

I have always thought Aragorn and Halbarad might have been related - anyway, that's the way I've always seen them, which makes his death even more devastating to Aragorn. Leave it to Merry and Pip to find the perfect way to honor Halbarad and help Aragorn with his grief, all in one go and in the company of friends, too! Thank you, Almut. I'm glad you enjoyed the story. linda

Linda Hoyland · 11 October 2008 · Chapter 3: A Gift for a Friend

This was very moving.I'm sure Aragorn did miss Halbarad.Thank Goodness for Merry and Pippin.

Author's reply

Merry and Pip just seem to be the right ones to think of the perfect way to not only honor Halbarad, but to do it in such a way that Aragorn is comforted at the same time. Thank you for the review, Linda. I'm glad you enjoyed the story. linda

Linda Hoyland · 11 October 2008 · Chapter 2: The Enemy of My Enemy

I loved your OCs here.Their suspicion was all too true to life.

Author's reply

It seemed to me that the people of Gondor were out of touch, so to speak, with the elves. And they were SO different...a sure thing to cause suspicion among the general populace. I did like Conn, though...he's just rather intimidated by everything about the elves. I'm glad you enjoyed the story, Linda. Thanks for the review. linda

daw the minstrel · 11 October 2008 · Chapter 3: A Gift for a Friend

Aragorn is so glad to see Halbarad in ROTK, so they had to have been close, it seems to me. This was lovely. And the hobbits are their generous selves.

Author's reply

Thank you, daw. Merry and Pip just seemed to me to be the right sort to plan something that would not only honor Halbarad, but also comfort Aragorn in his grief. They are a generous pair, aren't they? Thanks again for the review. linda

Larner · 11 October 2008 · Chapter 3: A Gift for a Friend

Ah! Excellent reason for visiting the Rath Dinen, then, on this day. And the Hobbits are visiting as well as plotting as much to lighten Aragorn's mood as they did to lighten Frodo's. That is wonderful! And this innkeeper can't quite make himself believe he's actually entertaining the King! How expectations for royalty help in the end to allow for a level of anonymity! Nice, Linda.

Author's reply

They are just a good pair of Hobbits, aren't they? Generous and caring and concerned...and more than willing to do something about Aragorn to lift his spirit and help him remember the GOOD times with Halbarad. Ah, yes...the innkeeper. Well, he just couldn't quite put it all together, bless him! But he still kept his head and helped make the party a rousing success! Thank you for the kind review, Larner. I'm glad you enjoyed the story! linda

Esquire_of_Rohan · 11 October 2008 · Chapter 3: A Gift for a Friend

Very good. I like this piece!

Author's reply

Thank you so much, Esquire! I'm so glad you enjoyed the story! linda

thechevin · 10 October 2008 · Chapter 2: The Enemy of My Enemy

Oh another treat, and this time we see Legolas as Lord of Ithilien and meeting and beating suspicion with his considerable charm and understanding, Conn doesn't know how fortunate he is to have had this help with the pointed ears arriving as it did. Thank You for this Judy

Author's reply

Hey Judy! Thank you for the kind review. I enjoyed having Legolas help Conn deal with his suspicions and overcome them enough to accept help from his neighbors (of the pointed ears! LOL). The Prince has had some experience with this in his dealings with the men of Esgaroth (at least in my universe, that is! I hope to detail some of those dealings in the future! *g*) Thank you again! linda

Silivren Tinu · 10 October 2008 · Chapter 2: The Enemy of My Enemy

I think I have read this one before - did you post it in the AA group some time ago? In any case, I still love it. The interaction between Conn and Legolas and how you describe Legolas here is just so beautiful. I would certainly welcome the elves with open arms! *g*

Author's reply

You are so right, Tinu! You have read this on the AA group, probably about 3 or 4 months ago. I'm glad you still enjoyed it - I did do some editing on it, so it read a little smoother, at least in my opinion. As for Conn, I fussed at that boy the whole time I was writing, telling him not to look a gift elf in the mouth...or ear :-)! LOL He has a hard head, though. I'm glad the Prince was able to talk some sense into him! Thank you again for the review! linda

Silivren Tinu · 10 October 2008 · Chapter 1: In the Arms of Love

Aww, Linda, that was so sweet!!!I so loved the image of the family sitting together in the branches of that tree, listening to the trees and watching the stars together! *sigh* “This scion of my house shall join me as a guardian to all who would call Eryn Lasgalen home.” And indeed he did. This sounds so much like what Legolas is going to become that I'm beginning to wonder if Thranduil has a tiny little bit of foresight. *g* It's probably needless to say, but I loved it. :) Almut

Author's reply

Thanks, Almut! You know me...I dearly love writing about the elves. I could only think that as close a tie that the Elvenking would have to the forest, he would be certain to present his heir to those trees. And I loved the idea of one of those eldest of trees sheltering the little family for the night. Thank you for the kind review! linda

Nieriel Raina · 9 October 2008 · Chapter 2: The Enemy of My Enemy

Oh what a delightful tale! I've missed your writing greatly! I'd forgotten how engaging your characters are. :) Bring on more, meldis!!!

Author's reply

Hey NiRi! Thank you so much for the review - I enjoyed the family in this story, even if Conn wouldn't take my word for it that the elves were ok!:-) I do plan on writing more; thank you so much for the encouragement! linda

Larner · 9 October 2008 · Chapter 2: The Enemy of My Enemy

A wonderful way to find new friends, and to overcome fears of other races.

Author's reply

Thank you Larner. Conn just needed a 'close encounter' to put his fears to a final rest. He was just a tad intimidated, you see...And they do turn out to be the best of neighbors...but that is a story for another time. :-) Thank you again for the kind review. linda

daw the minstrel · 9 October 2008 · Chapter 2: The Enemy of My Enemy

It strikes me that lots of people are afraid of the magical and uncanny and elves might look that way to men. So I think it's realistic that Conn's first instinct would be to fear elves. This is a nice moment, when he's strong and brave enough to recognize kindness when he sees it, even in someone so different.

Author's reply

Hello, daw! You know, Conn was a brave warrior for Gondor during the war and I couldn't figure out why he was so insistent about keeping the elves at arm's length, especially when his home and family were at risk. What you say in your review is true - the elves must have seemed so far and above the average mortal, what with their immortal selves and unearthly beauty. It took awhile for Conn to get past that, but he finally did and made some valuable friends. Thank you for the review, daw! linda

thechevin · 9 October 2008 · Chapter 1: In the Arms of Love

What a lovely story this was and how appropriate that Thranduil would wish to introduce his son to his most loyal subjects and how proud they must have been when they heard his name. So many wonderful visual images here, I'm happy to see a new set of tales from you it has been too long

Author's reply

Thank you, thechevin, and I'm so glad you enjoyed Legolas' little introduction to the forest! And I am excited to be back - RL and health issues pretty much eliminated everything for a long time. I've really missed it (and all of you, especially!) Thanks again for the kind review. linda

Larner · 9 October 2008 · Chapter 1: In the Arms of Love

So sweet an introduction for the wee princeling! Wonderful beginning to what I hope will be a long and delightful series! Have missed seeing your writing!

Author's reply

Thank you, Larner! I enjoyed writing about this special introduction of the Prince to his father's favorite subject! I'm glad you enjoyed this and I hope to add more to the series (*crosses fingers*). I've missed writing - didn't know how much until I got back into it (actually I've missed reading, too - and all of you guys). It is so very good to be back! linda

daw the minstrel · 8 October 2008 · Chapter 1: In the Arms of Love

What a lovely, elfy scene! I love the way the trees respond to Thranduil and his family.

Author's reply

Thank you, daw! I thought that the birth of the heir deserved some sort of recognition from the forest - and I've always thought Thranduil would have a special connection to his forest. (I'm very relieved it seemed elfy - sometimes I wonder if that comes across.) linda

Nieriel Raina · 8 October 2008 · Chapter 1: In the Arms of Love

Simply beautiful! I just love your Thranduil! And so nice to see you posting again! *hugs*

Author's reply

Hello, NiRi! Thanks so much for the kind review - I have a soft spot in my heart for the King, too! I figured the birth of the heir deserved a special recognition from forest! :-) And thank you, it is good to be back! It's been a long, dry spell and I didn't realize how much I missed it (and you guys) until I got involved again! *big hugs to you* (You would have howled to see me figuring out how to post this - nilmandra has always assisted in the past, but I decided to be a big girl and do it myself! HA! Very big HA!) More to come! Yay! linda
