Oh I loved this! Had wondered what on Arda had happened to Erestor in Valinor. Very happy to have this gap filling with Rostaro :)

FIRST allow me to apologize profusely for not responding to your review in a more timely manner. I have been offline, just now looking through my email from the past two weeks. Thank you so very much for the review!! I never expect old stories to get new comments. This is a very pleasant surprise! I hope you find the rest of these dusty chapters entertaining. I did intend for more, but like many I have been on a long hiatus.

Larner · 25 September 2011 · Chapter 2: In the Dark

Definitely a reckless pair they make. Am not certain what was going on there, but I can appreciation the fascination these two felt.

Author's reply

And you have read on! :D Religious mysteries are like that... ;) Thank you again for reviewing!

Larner · 24 September 2011 · Chapter 1: Career Day

Aha! Sounds as if this proved to be a most productive interview on both sides. Now, to read more of your stories.

Author's reply

First, let me apologize for not replying sooner! My only excuse is I do not check my email with any regularity. Second, I am so delightfully surprised!! Thank you very much for reading and reviewing! I hope you find these tales entertaining.

illereyn · 28 August 2011 · Chapter 5: This and That

Interesting way for Elrond to meet Glorfindel! I love looking at how Elrond thinks. I wonder what he did when he figured it all out?

Author's reply

Thank you for the review! They are much appreciated! I love getting into character's heads. After he found out, I am sure he laughed at his mistake. In private... ;)

daw the minstrel · 27 August 2011 · Chapter 5: This and That

I started reading this earlier today and then Mr daw dragged me away to Do Stuff. What a great first meeting! And really, who could blame Elrond for the mistake he makes? "Lock up your daughters." LOLOL

Author's reply

Thank you so much for reading and reviewing! I appreciate it! :) I am pleased that you liked the story. We mean to entertain!

perelleth · 27 August 2011 · Chapter 5: This and That

Wow! Thank you! Ths was great!! Elrond immersed in clerical duties made me laugh for some reason.. It's not a usual setting for him and also hit the nail with my own upcoming new dties which will also involve no doubt a lot more paperwork than I would love! So this was perfectly appropriate! :-) This world is so perfetly created in your mind that is full o details and atmosphere. From the way Elrond considers the warrior, to his political views and machinations and considerations, the tone perfectly matches that of CSING, this could be a lost chapter in that tale! IT all has a kind of moliére-esque flavour to it that is wonderfully achieved, and Glorfindel with "dandified hair and trendy clothes" really made me howl. The banter, the wager, Celeborn´s punch-line that I was awaiting eagerly... all is delightful. And then the moment when Elrond, full of self-confidence, admonsishes him to get rid of "that" Glorfindel... LOLLOL. That was priceless. I could picture Glorfindel´s face, and his quick decision...almost as if he saw an opportunity adn grasped it without thinking.. being rid of that... This and That, indeed. A very interesting idea, I loved it. And, the constant mentions to This GLorfindel somehow made me think of Dune's character Duncan Idaho and his endless, countless iterations and his staunchless loyalty to the house atreides... well, all in all, simply wonderful! a great reminder of that story that is still awaiting resolution back in Celebrimbor`s halls! :-) I'm sad to admit that I won't be able to meet my deadline. The weeks have ben short and full of other things that really didn't stole my brains. But I´ll do my best to finish it some time, since of couse I owe you my version, which is, no need to mention since you already guessed, terribly different from this one. THank you very much for all the effort you out in finding time to do this. It's also a reminder of the good times we've all had at this place. I really miss the inspiration to keep writing. THanks!

I like this not-goat friendly place! You know, I nearly forgot just how fond I am of Hrassa. Only *nearly* mind! /Yes, even them dwarves./ Hehe. I enjoyed all this backstory on the wars with Sauron… details sorely lacking in Tolkien’s account. Celeborn on his deathbed! You scared me a second there! And the politics here are delicious too… why, Gil-Galad is almost this sinister character… really, I always imagined all the ruffled feelings to be on Oropher’s side, but this is a fresh look at the matter… plus the idea the animosity extends even toward Celeborn and Galadriel. Oh! So Glorfindel’s supposedly watching Turgon’s heirs. Interesting. Hah! No, I really can’t imagine Hrassa liking the flighty blond. “And if you ever suggest such a thing again, I will punch you black and blue.” – without a doubt my favorite line. :) By the way, Elrond’s proposal had me scared once again. Mrs Celebrain Gil-Galad! Too weird a thought... I always love your romances – elegant, cute, surprising, witty… Celebrain had been luring him in the whole time! And Hrassa’s interspersed self-commentary was too funny. Finally! He’s officially Celebriain’s lapdog. ^_^

Author's reply

Hey there, Kitt Otter! Please forgive the late reply, but I was motoring to the Mid-West for my niece's wedding. And some vacationing as well. :) Thanks for appreciating the elevated setting! Despite nearly, Hrassa is blushing anyway. ;) *g* For me, details are whats fun about fanfiction. The amateur engineering of the Professor's wonderful designs. Yep, Celeborn nearly expired (in my universe) as a reasonable reason for the couple's essential retirement to Dol Amroth until their subsequent necessary return to Lothlorien ere it disintigrated. Let's face it: Gil-galad never had it easy. I really think of him as one tough guy, constrained rather than enabled by his crown. The power of which was reduced through being passed down again and again in a relatively short period of time and finally to a youth - each time losing a little more command with the Exile nobles. If one resents being obliged for obedience from other apparantly not earned by one's own merits, it can be irritating. Watching over his prince's family was my reason for Glorfindel to want to return to Middle-earth and carry-on fighting. In a way, Hrassa and he are both in the same profession, so Hrassa does have grounds to critisize him. But, also to like Glorfindel as a fellow agent of his own House. (which will merge someday, at that) The lady can take care of herself. ;) At least until her children became her focus, and then all her care will be for them. Well I suppose, those that see Gil-galad as Fingon's son are not so weirded by the thought. Then, the kinship would be the same as Galadriel and Celeborn's. Then again, she just belongs with Elrond, doesn't she. Thank you so much for saying that! I really think Elrond knew what was going on, but was torn because of his friendship with the King. Plus, his personal wish to stay in Imladris. And his sudden realization about the nature of his love for Celebrian. Hrassa is part and protector of his family, just like Glorfindel. Lapdog! *hilarious laughter* Don't let him hear you say that! ;D Thank you so much again for reading and reviewing! It is always always much appreciated

perelleth · 21 August 2010 · Chapter 4: Different Hearts – Different Sides

Thank you very much! This was an unexpected treat! -) Hehehe, I don't remember said comment but it must have irked you to no end, to celebrate my birthday with a whole chapter of bashing my favourite elf king in revenge! So I now hastily apologize for whatever thoughtless comment I may have made, LOLOL!! ... poor guy, really. Anyway, I enjoyed Hrassa's pov here as always, how he's got Elrond measured up, how he enjoys his discomfort at heights, and then how he worries like a good-old chaperon when they're getting so close to each other amidst their heated discussion... :-) Poor Hrassa. Things really have a way of going exactly where he wouldn't like them, and I suspect that given free rein, he would surely get things ordered in middle-earth.. and Celeborn back on his feet in no time, to shake some common sense into the princess, LOLOL! She did manage to startle him as always! :-) “Continue to be Erienion’s unfailing ally and friend, if you wish. That would be your right as a Lord. But, as said before, it should be on no one’s terms but your own. ” While she really acted like Elrovail before, she now shows how young and far from her mother's political skill she still is. First because friendships and alliances can't be established on one side's terms, alone, so to keep in good terms with Ereinion Elrond will have to reach common grounds, not on his terms alone, and second she is imposing her own terms to Elrond, in telling him he has to go on his own alone... so the little lady's still learning her game and it shows, not that Hrassa will disagree with her bold stance here! :-) All in all, I consider myself delightfully chastised. It was great to see another tale from you. Thank you very much indeed! I've been missing these stories! :-)

Author's reply

Yes, I should think this was very unexpected considering how little I have posted lately. :/ But goodness, I was not chastising you for some comment per se! Your memory is not that gone away! I apologize for giving you that impression. I thought you might think that I forgot your birthday. That's all. ...still... I like how that miscommunication worked out. ];} I am always glad when you enjoy Hrassa being an involved observer. Henchmen come in shapes and sizes, I think. But for me, he is of a special kind. As an experienced negotiator, you know more about political horse-trading than the average person. Celebrian's tactics in this particular situation are what the are: directional. And personally, I don't think she should aspire to her mother's political skills. They seem to me to be much about self-aggrandizing. As to Gil-galad's negotiating skills, he did not seem able appease and retain a whole segment of the his Umaryar subjects. Besides that - *stopping before I get started* Certainly, Celebrian and Elrond, having buddied up, stand to learn a lot together about swimming in global political waters. Again, I apologize for making you think this part of a old debate. I was just rifting on an old idea of mine for your entertainment. I do hope to get busy finishing up some unfinished pages this fall. Happy Birthday, Perelleth! And Many Happy Returns! :D

grumpy · 3 October 2009 · Chapter 3: The Wait of Words

I ment to write quite some time back to tell you how much I liked this story. Aragorn thoughts and actions after the leave taking of Celeborn and Galadriel, and seen by one of his rangers, was just wonderful to read. Soory it took me so long to get back to you.

Author's reply

Hey, a review is always welcome, anytime! Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Kitt Otter · 21 August 2009 · Chapter 3: The Wait of Words

Elven in-laws must be freaky, no question. I like your Aragorn. He’s very much the King and Ranger, “his long legs crookedly stretched out before him”. His moods between sulk and mirth were shown crisply well too. And he’s actually promised to cut down on the pipe-weed??? The perspective here was different – for fanfiction in general, though it’s your forte – that Celeborn was one to respect, that his words were something to treasure, rare as they were. (It makes me think now that Galadriel does *too* talking. :P) The parallels you draw between Boromir and Celeborn’s leadership and Aragorn and Celeborn’s ah, what is the word, princeliness? Hmm. Well, for one, how the both managed to marry Elven Princesess seemingly above them. Rámon was sweet. His humor, loyalty and curiosity were just what melancholy!Aragorn needed. I liked how defensive and warm he felt about Boromir. My earlier comment was a bit hasty. Elven in-laws can be great if you have the time to think over what they say. (Or maybe Aragorn’s problem here was thinking too hard…?) Thanks for this study of Celeborn. I’ll have to look more closely at what he says from now on. ^_^

Author's reply

*G* I am very glad you like Aragorn in this. I actually do think he would cut back on the smoking at Arwen's request. Especially if she mentioned it would not be acceptable around their children. "your forte - " Thank you, I shall take that as a compliment! And Galadriel does get flowery on occasion and tries to make nice between parties - just as any good queen should. That was one of their most important duties in medieval times. When it came to the brothers, Boromir was necessary for Ramon's reference, but Faramir was always mine. For one, just the reason you point out yourself. But of course, if one can see the congruity Faramir has with Aragorn, then it is no leap to see that same congruity between Aragorn and Celeborn. I now see Celeborn as a royal prince (unlike Elrond as the royal lord of Imladris - ringbearer or no) representing the actual pattern Aragorn is being shaped upon. Denethor and Theoden could not be used in the same way, except as contrast. For in the LOTR, the long defeat had already taken a terrible toll on them that would lead to their demise. Aragorn had to win. Although, he is still mortal and must face loss and death at the end of his own reign. There are other aspects of Celeborn's behaviour that both Faramir and Aragorn also affect in the story, if one looks. You describe Ramon, friend to his lords, very well. I think you and Ramon are right in saying Aragorn was thinking too hard. Look where it got him, at least temporarily... ;) Celeborn does not have a lot of scenes in the story. Nonetheless, he is there as certainly as are Arwen and Thranduil(wordless except through Legolas). Thank you very much for the kind review. They are always appreciated.

perelleth · 15 August 2009 · Chapter 3: The Wait of Words

OK, I'm back. First i loved the setting, the courtly environment around Aragorn -already Elessar, and he has made good, valuable friends back at court... the whole character study through the POV of a Gondorian knight is a great idea. Also loved the details: the pavillion, the assistant, the trust and closeness implied between the king and Rámon, revealed by how the attendants know how to deal with him and when to leave them alone... and Aragorn feeling comfortable in his role as a king, with the protocol and the signs of status and all that. THen, studying Celeborn's personality through the musings of Aragorn is quite revealing, of the amount of reflection he has always put into his life, eager to learn all that could be of use to him, and also of the Sindarin Lord. A master of prevention, a master plotter, showing, guiding, creating the frame for things to happen and if they do not, then there is an alternate plan then makes only sense, not just with the Celeborn you've been creating but also wit what we know of the character. And Aragorn's interpretation of the exchange between Celeborn and Boromir about Fangorn had me fangirling Celeborn and just wanting to go back to re read, because explained by Aragorn it gains a new angle! And I really loved that Aragorn was capable of perceiving an gauging to what point Celeborn and Galadriel are a perfect match for each other and how deeply they love and respect each other. ANd that he sees that as a model for his own marriage. And... well, everything in it, did I already say that? Thank you very much again. I still owe you a council. It will be coming, I promise.

Author's reply

Oh dear! I beg pardon for not acknowledging this second review until now! Thank you for expanding your earlier comments on this tale. :) More thanks for saying it *added*? to your enjoyment of Tolkien's story. And I look forward to a White Council meeting of any sort you might have in mind! :D

Larner · 8 August 2009 · Chapter 3: The Wait of Words

I love this look at Celeborn through Aragorn's eyes. How anyone can underrate Celeborn is more than I can understand.

Author's reply

Glad you liked it! And I totally agree!! Thanks for the review!

daw the minstrel · 8 August 2009 · Chapter 3: The Wait of Words

I'd never thought about the meaning the Galadriel's and Celeborn's parting words, but this was very insightful about them and about Celeborn too.

Author's reply

Well, maybe this was carried out a little farther than the Professor's actual thoughts about the meaning of their words. But, this is a multi-layered work of genius and, as he intended, very applicable. Apparantly, even by its own characters. ;D Thank you for the review!

ellie · 8 August 2009 · Chapter 3: The Wait of Words

How delightful and full of wonderful insights into well-respected characters! well done!

Author's reply

Thank you, Ellie! And thanks for the review!

perelleth · 8 August 2009 · Chapter 3: The Wait of Words

OK, I'm officially blown away by this. Have to re read, above all the last part, to be coherent, but, hey, you've been picking up inspiration from the very same place i have been looking for elinghtenment, so there are many things here I really needed to remember! The present, then, is doubly appreciated. Loved this:"Fate is too strong a force to oppose. But, the natural flow of history cannot be easily diverted from its course either. Every design requires wise engineering to succeed." I'll return later, with more reflection. Thank you very much

Author's reply

Happy Birthday, Perelleth!! :D I look forward to your further comments. Oh yes... You are very welcome!

illereyn · 7 August 2009 · Chapter 3: The Wait of Words

Wow! There's a lot of thought put into this - you certainly made me pay a lot more attention to those two sentences spoken by Galadriel and Celeborn! And I'm glad Celeborn's character gets a clarification and vindication here - he's so often dismissed.

Author's reply

*g* Thank you! Pleased that you liked it. :) Yes, I am a shameless fan-gurl for the Elmoi and especially Celeborn. Thank you for reviewing!

Bodkin · 24 August 2008 · Chapter 2: In the Dark

Aññolë ... great word. Two tildes and an umlaut! Rostaro and Camentur being old school-friends! That's just delicious! A right pair of little monkeys, though - they deserved to get into trouble. I never thought of them being similar in age - but I just love the thought. Rostaro is just so gorgeous (and Camentur has a touch of Draco Malfoy about him - aristocratic and arrogant, but with potential) - while the dark sorceress reminds me of elliska's Black Swan. I love Galadriel's Black-Swan-Dragon-Lady (- only Galadriel could cope with Elrovail as a member of her household - anybody else would be intimidated into submission). Although I'm not terribly fond of the toron - he seems a bit full of himself. I rather hope that Rostaro makes mincemeat of him in the future. ... Perhaps Camentur will exert his family influence. (Even if I did forget quite who Camentur was.) I love this pair of stories, Redheredh - and, please write more about Rostaro. I want to know his story!

Author's reply

lol! I snickered so hard when I found that! Just the word for a hick (red-necked) farmer's kid to say. Well, I do think Rostero is a bit younger. But, comparing Camentur to Draco? I dunno... A black swan? Gimme a break! A black hawk! But, we have discussed a lot of this already. ;D I do agree with that! C&G are the only ones who could put a leash on her. Menelmo does think highly of his place in destiny. It is going to take more than Rostaro to stop this ambitious servant of the Feanturi. Hey, I forgot how to spell Rostaro's name several time! (I am just glad you did not think I treated one of your characters badly.) *g* Well, you do know more than anyone else... besides me. Thank you so much for the review!

Bodkin · 24 August 2008 · Chapter 1: Career Day

Erestor ensuring that Rostaro gets the very best education is definitely a Good Thing. And 'teenagers' everywhere are such a pain! I wonder if Gail and Rostaro get to meet again sometime. The thought of Rostaro and Elrond's friend's daughter ... just delicious. I am so glad that Erestor found himself a suitable purpose in life while he waited for Elrond to heal. And, actually, the thought of a rather gauche and brattish Rostaro, who expected life to consist mainly of kicks ... I'm sure he will develop more grace and style as the years pass. Delightful, Redheredh.

Author's reply

*g* You are ever on the lookout for good-matchs! ...maybe, they will. Who knows... Yes, it is a happy hope that every elf finds a happy life in Eldamar. We all need role-models and life-guides, besides good friends, to become better people. Goodness, else it would be Lord of the Flies. Thank you! :) I am glad you enjoyed it!

Kitt Otter · 20 August 2008 · Chapter 2: In the Dark

Hopefully I am allowed to reply a reply… Well, we had two mama goats have babies and bottle-fed the wee ones so to tame them because otherwise they'd never be tame enough to be milked. But the endless cycle of raising kids and milking was, to be put mildly, too big of a commitment. (Ever tried to feed five hungry goatlings with four bottles? Not as cute as some would think!) So now they are just pets; whew, just pets. And goats (as long as they are adults) are easier to care for than even cats. The only real livestock we have are the chickens. Egg-collecting is far more laid-back. As on offside, I am glad to have correctly guessed Elrovail. I suppose her years have made her only more bewitching! -Kitt

Kitt Otter · 18 August 2008 · Chapter 2: In the Dark

Yay, double doses of Rostaro! A good way to connect the two stories – that he kept his promise to make a friend. I liked the opening lines, especially “Neither was that good at skulking in the first place”. Blood sacrifices! I liked their “scholarly” argument here. So their skulking was a noble task for knowledge, but really, they should have known better than to try to secretly observe Wood-elves. I was rather curious about it myself and was very glad to have seen… no goat sacrifices!!! (I have several goats and am usually quite fond of ‘em) Oh, or no quendi… that’s good. (Fond of them too). You gave vibrant and almost eerie descriptions on the dance and music. They were so effective at setting the mood. I cannot figure out who the sorceress was; Elrovail, maybe, or who??? Hmm, I guess the overall lesson here is that boys will be boys, to-be-loremasters or not. And that was an amusing but creepy encounter, to be sure. The ending was fittingly fun… *chuckling mercilessly at First Instructor…* -Kitt

Author's reply

Yep, related stories is how they turned out. The idea was to setup the anticipated danger then dispell it, then spring it on them unexpectedly and in a different form than anticipated. (You raise goats! Pets or livestock? Do you milk and make cheese?) I am very pleased to have gotten the intended mood going. *BINGO* Yes, that was Elrovail. :) The toron was the future Aratar of Alqualonde, who is referenced in "Beech Leaves". I couldn't let the guys stay freaked out too long before getting them back into trouble mode. ;D Now, could I? Glad you like their little adventure! Thank you for the review; they are always appreciated.

Kitt Otter · 18 August 2008 · Chapter 1: Career Day

Oh dear, how I can relate to student emissions and so on… well, one does not think about educational institutes in Valinor so often; very interesting. (Final exam for the decade?! Yes, of course.) I like the pealing away of Rostaro’s personality: arrogant, easygoing, and finally open friendliness. (“Arrogant hick.” sorta was fitting.) It was a wonderful progression that Erestor used to help Rostaro get on the right path. All in all a very enjoyable, moving interview. I cannot blame Gail for silliness around Rostaro (and poor Erestor believes her silliness will soon pass?) Liked the wee references to Celebrian. : ) -Kitt

Author's reply

I am glad you found it entertaining! It was written for Perelleth, and she ok with stories that have little action or romance - as long as they are play with ideas. Her Erestor is one of my favorite characters - as you can tell. ;D Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!

perelleth · 16 August 2008 · Chapter 1: Career Day

Thank you very much again on the first place! I really loved seeing Rostaro again, and twice! :-) And Erestor is great here, fitting anywhere as he belonged, with his usual ability, finding himself a family and a career in Valinor while Elrond recovers form the ordeals of having everything and almos losing it all...IT is wonderful to see him so rewarded: It was important and slightly more despotic than bureaucratic And this is amusingly perfect, for I believe that the "despotic" part is what really appealed to Erestor! :-) And poor Rostaro is wonderful here, a farm boy with all his talents and that strangeness around him. I really like how you let us see him through Erestor' calculating but also compassionate eye: his untamed talent and temper, his budding pride, his fear that he would be chained to a future he was not sure he liked..and the boy's humble surprise when, all of a sudden all his fears are laid bare before his eyes and he can see that, after all, they are not so difficult to overcome. The joyful Rostaro that leaves Ersetor's office surely made his day. I really loved this tale, for many personal resasons but also for the insight and the compassion that shines through. And I was tickled by the idea of Aman's Accademia! What a world to explore! :-) THank you very much.

Author's reply

You are both so kind and so deserving yourself! This was a personal gift to you, and I am very very happy you found something personal in it! And very pleased that you enjoyed it! You are welcome, Perelleth! Happy Birthday!

perelleth · 16 August 2008 · Chapter 2: In the Dark

Wow! This was beautiful and so intense! You ahve such a way with words to create the atpsphere! By the end I was almost holding my breath and sitting on the edge of the chair! Rostro and Camentur were friends at school! And Rostaro was Camentor's tutor! That was a nice surpirse! and the two youths are so well drawn in their eagerness , seriorness and playfulness! and solemnly said that their expedition had just become a mission. The truth should never be suppressed. This made me laugh, for it rang so true! :-) But I do love the scene in the foret. Darkness, the fires a beryl of light I particularly loved this expression. And also the sounds of the drums beating into creating an atmosphere, where individual thought is drawn away and every mind beats at the same rythm.. a powerful sensation that was perfectly conveyed by words. And the ending, of course, what a nice tweak, so anything is what looked like on the first plce, what a wonderful touch to leave us just wondering what ever happened between the stern toron and the tempting driad.. Masterful, so inventive! Lovely!

Author's reply

Thank so much for all the kind words! I am pleased that you enjoyed it! Its especially nice to know what you liked in particular. But, you already know a little about the toron and "driad". She once lived in a palace in Ost-in-Edhil, and he becomes the Aratar of Alqualonde, whom Rostaro encounters again in "Beech Leaves". Of course, what was going on between those two at the time of this story is another story. ];} And once again, take it easy going back to work!

daw the minstrel · 15 August 2008 · Chapter 2: In the Dark

As I recall, Camentur is older than Legolas's wife? In Bodkin's story, he's married? This is an amusing and charming look at two young males who learned more than they bargained for.

Author's reply

That's right, Camentur is the older married brother of Elerrina, whom we met during her and Legolas' courtship. Rostaro was released from Mandos around the time the Ringbearer's ship arrived in Aman. Elrond and Celebrian actually met him in "Golden Flower Blossoms". *g* One of those 'coming of age' things? Thank you very much for the review!

daw the minstrel · 15 August 2008 · Chapter 1: Career Day

You almost make me miss academia! Almost. Erestor is good with young people trying to figure themselves out. I'm glad he could help this one. Perelleth the Wise? LOL.

Author's reply

*whew* close call! Well, Perelleth the Wise almost asked me to remove that reference! Almost. :D Thank you for the review.
