A worthy wish for Legolas. Nice.

Author's reply

Thanks!

Ah,yes! The burden of the Elves. He will find something new to set his heart upon, new friends and a new vision. It is a good blessing for Legolas. *applause* I am enjoying these so much, Virtuella!

Author's reply

Thanks for your kind comments!

*sigh* There is a depth here like the mystery of the Dwarves themselves. I've always liked the Dwarves and Gimli in particular. Wonderfully done again, Virtuella!

Dreamflower · 28 August 2008 · Chapter 5: The Fifth Cloak

Oh my! Legolas might consider this blessing a mixed one. I had never before thought of the idea that he might find life after the Quest to be dull if he had nothing new to look forward to. And while it might be interpreted to be the sea-longing, and might well include that, I also think of the challenges he would face in starting up a new colony of Elves in Ithilien, just when the rest of Elvenkind are fading and leaving. I wonder if thses maidens will ever know just how their blessing played themselves out. It would be interesting to know what they thought.

Author's reply

It's meant to be a mixed blessing. Well, there is the sea-longing and the new colony, but also his new perception of Men, Dwarves and Hobbits and the friendships he has with them. I don't think Lindhris ever saw him again, though...

shirebound · 28 August 2008 · Chapter 5: The Fifth Cloak

Countless years he has spent in the woodland realm, with no challenge to his powers and no deeds to his name. That is why he is glad to be on this quest That's a very perceptive and interesting idea. I continue to greatly enjoy each fascinating chapter.

Author's reply

Thanks. It wasn't easy to think fo something for Legolas.

demeter d · 25 August 2008 · Chapter 4: The Fourth Cloak

That is a good image to symbolize Gimli. A deep, clear mountain lake filled with freshly melted snow. He was so pleased to be able to look into the lake outside Moria. The maidens seem to see what Galadriel saw in his heart; love not for treasure, but for kin and friends and his home. Again, you have written a blessing perfect for Gimli. I am curiously looking forward to what you do with Boromir. That will be a challenge, I think.

Author's reply

Thank you. I actually think Legolas is a bigger challenge than Boromir. I reread FOTR in preparation for this story and I found a fair amount of characterization for all the others, but not for him. He is just your "generic elf". For example when they are discussing whether or not to go through Moria, everybody gives a reason for their choice, expresses feelings about it etc, apart from Legolas, who only says: "I do not wish to go to Moria." There isn't even an indication of his tone of voice or facial expression. He is so bland I found it hard to get a handle on him. Knowing that so many people have taken a fancy to him didn't help either...

Antane · 25 August 2008 · Chapter 4: The Fourth Cloak

Another marvelous blessing which worked its wonders! Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

Thank you very much!

Larner · 25 August 2008 · Chapter 4: The Fourth Cloak

How wonderful to see this blessing for our Gimli. And so joyous a blessing it proved in the end, both for the two races and for Gimli itself.

Author's reply

Thanks for your continued interest! ;-)

Dreamflower · 25 August 2008 · Chapter 4: The Fourth Cloak

So far, every single blessing you have come up with has been utterly perfect for the character in question! I enjoyed the bit of banter and teasing at the beginning, and how one of the maidens was horrified by the teasing. Your maidens are beginning to develope their own personalities!

Author's reply

Thanks, I'm glad you find that. By the end, they should all have emerged as discernable individuals.

shirebound · 25 August 2008 · Chapter 4: The Fourth Cloak

Galadriel's maidens are clear sighted and good hearted. She chose well those who would weave and bless these cloaks.

Author's reply

Thanks. I hope they don't come across as too omniscient. One would have to argue that either Galadriel chose them because of their keen minds, or else that Galdriel's own powers have rubbed off on them a bit.

Linda Hoyland · 23 August 2008 · Chapter 3: The Third Cloak

The maidens remind me of Wagner's Norns here with their clouded glimpses of the future. Very well written.

Author's reply

I hadn't thought of that. Interesting!

Pearl Took · 23 August 2008 · Chapter 3: The Third Cloak

My dear Pippin's cloak! How often he has been foolish by this point in the Quest, and he has a few yet ahead of him, but he does indeed grow to meet his challenges. And it is interesting how often his foolish deeds turn out well. These are gems, Virtuella!

Author's reply

Thanks, Pearl. I really enjoy writing these.

demeter d · 23 August 2008 · Chapter 3: The Third Cloak

A youthful spirit who doubts whether he should have come? Yes, it must be our Peregrin. It does, indeed, also apply to all of them before the end. I believe that as Gandalf left the four to return by themselves to the Shire at the end of the quest, he said that they all had grown so that they could handle whatever awaited them there. Pippin began as the youngest, the one his cousins bossed about, even if lovingly. He ended by saving a guardsman, and a Steward, and rushing the Ruffians who challenged them and declaring HIMSELF to be the first of the new King's messengers! I would say the blessing worked!

Author's reply

Thanks. I think it did, even in a very literal sense. ;-)

Larner · 22 August 2008 · Chapter 3: The Third Cloak

A most apt blessing for Pippin. Very nice, Virtuella.

Author's reply

Thank you!

Dreamflower · 22 August 2008 · Chapter 1: The First Cloak

May hope grow in his heart like a mellorn tree, with strong roots and flowers untouched by winter.” Dear Sam! He needed all of his hope and strength by the end of things--and I do not mean only the Quest. I think this is such a marvelous and likely concept. We know how much care and prayer the Elven maidens put into the lembas. I cannot imagine they would put any less care into such a garment.

Dreamflower · 22 August 2008 · Chapter 2: The Second Cloak

This is wonderful. I find it perfectly plausible that some of Arwen's maidens would have accompanied her. And that these Elven maidens would have some opinions on the Man who had been chosen by her. The blessing is so very apt.

Dreamflower · 22 August 2008 · Chapter 3: The Third Cloak

What a perfect blessing for Pippin! I am really loving this concept!

Author's reply

Thanks for all your kind comments!

Antane · 22 August 2008 · Chapter 3: The Third Cloak

As the shadow grows, so let him grow able to meet it. I just *love* this series! *hug* I know you mean Pippin here, but it could fit them all. No wonder they succeeded so well in all their given tasks with such love and prayers embracing them. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

True, it is a bit broad, but since you still realized who I meant, I suppose it's okay.

shirebound · 22 August 2008 · Chapter 3: The Third Cloak

If you think the challenge is too great then I will make this wish for him, that he will grow and gain the strength to face it. I wish that for all of us! This is a very inspiring tale.

Author's reply

Thanks!

Antane · 21 August 2008 · Chapter 2: The Second Cloak

I love your blessings! Indeed this was a very fortunate company so be so wrapped up in not only cloaks, but prayers as well. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

Thanks, that's a nice way of putting it. :)

Pearl Took · 19 August 2008 · Chapter 2: The Second Cloak

Dear Aragorn, he had borne a burden all his life and the Quest just added to it. A wonderful and prophetic blessing they gave to him. I agree about the escort for Arwen. Well done, Virtuella :-)

Author's reply

Thanks, Pearl!

shirebound · 18 August 2008 · Chapter 2: The Second Cloak

I'm very much enjoying this perceptive, gentle story.

Author's reply

I'm glad you do. ;-)

Larner · 18 August 2008 · Chapter 2: The Second Cloak

Interesting idea, although apparently Arwen never saw Aragorn within Imladris until the day he turned twenty, for she had spent over twenty years in her grandparents' realm. I love the blessing for this cloak, and it is certainly one that Aragorn of all people needs. Yes, very appropriate for Arathorn and Gilraen's son.

Author's reply

"apparently Arwen never saw Aragorn within Imladris until the day he turned twenty" Yes, that was the occasion I had in mind. At twenty he would still be "very young", don't you think?

demeter d · 18 August 2008 · Chapter 2: The Second Cloak

Again, a lovely little piece! I absolutely agree. Arwen would not travel alone, especially after what happened to her mother, even with an escort. Besides the best warriors of two Elven realms, and probably one or both brothers, she would certainly have had female companions. And Aragorn's paths were dark for most of his life. Again and again he had to go ways which seemed hopeless to most others. This is the perfect blessing for him.

Author's reply

Thanks a lot!

Larner · 15 August 2008 · Chapter 1: The First Cloak

Ah--such a gift and prayer for our beloved Samwise! Yes, indeed the blessing he needs! And when Frodo is reduced to wearing it, that blessing shall be shared with him at a time when he desperately needs such help. Excellent!

Author's reply

Thanks very much for your kind words!
