Like, who would ever worry about a nice quiet forest. Trees are good for nothing but firewood anyhow.
Very good characterisation of the soon-to-be-dead Orcs.

Raksha,
Yes, its quite worrying how much i enjoy writing orc dialogue.....

Wake up and smell the coffee, Angmar!
One would think that the presence in Middle-earth of many beings who are not living men might trouble ol' tall-dark-and-noisome, what with Ents, Eagles, Elves, and one very peeved Wizard, but noooo.
Just let that particular skinny, boyish Rider with the short friend get nice and close to you, now...
I love the smell of Arrogance dissipating, along with funky ancient steel-spiked crowns, in the morning.
Author's reply
I have to confess, this was at least partly inspired by Elana's story 'No Living Man'. (SoA 1672)

That's right, Red-Eye; just fume and froth about Isildur's spawn; don't even worry about the little creeping spies; they're beneath your grand notice. Orodruin doesn't need guarding...
Sauron's obviously been reading his own press releases, or dispatches, for too long.
Author's reply
Thanks, Raksha.
Actually, my view is that while Sauron in the second age was calculating, vindictive, but essentially in control of his emotions, by the third age he's utterly paranoid and insane. After all he's lost his fair body (in Numenor), his ring, and has had to regain his physical form by somehow feeding on the dead or their spirits. So he's probably not big on considered thought at this point....

And the thought of ancient Thorongil hobbling out of the mists of time with a pack of ghosts is just so ridiculous, isn't it...
Great concept here!

Excellent use of meter. And you've caught the voice Tolkien used in The Hobbit.
Author's reply
Thanks eiluj!
In some ways The Hobbit is still my favorite of the books, so I'm duly gratified by your review
