Love this chapter and this story, you are very good at details, plus I like how you write the friendship between the two. Aragorn is my favorite, perhaps because he is human, and you write him well. Love it that he snores and talks in his sleep, also love Legolas's bawdy songs, and what the cat's name really is. looking forward to more

First of all, I would like to say that this was a very good chapter and that I loved it. The one thing that makes me want to rip out your throat about, though, is Legolas' blindness. When are you going to restore it, if ever? Love the story, though, no matter how much I hate the blindness. elfgirl999

..oh and I forgot...I just love the way Alun examines Legolas weapons. The way he is amazed about the draw weight of the bow...hehehe... I know how I felt when I got my new bow with a higher draw weight... It was excellent how you pointed out the differences in the abilities of humans and elves!

Ah, it seems that the very morning I wonder if this will be the day you update, a new chapter always shows up. Today was no exception and it was soooo welcome on this otherwise stinky day (work is not nice, y'see). I referred a friend to this story as I think it is an intriguing one. She read no further than the point in the orc attack where Legolas' vision began blurring. Her reason? "It hurts. It's too real. I can't stand to see Legolas hurt that way." How's that for an odd compliment I, however, eagerly read every word, and if I'm feeling charitable, I share with her what is happening in this world. SHe'll read it and enjoy it after I can assure that it all comes out right in the end. um...it will come out alright in the end, won't it? Quiet dignity. That is so perfect a reaction for Legolas, the quiet way of dealing with his loss and his pain. Fortunately I'm not blind, but I can relate to the chronic pain, and silence is the only way to go. Pity is worse than the pain, and whining is just embarrassing. I do love the cat. I no longer doubt Alun's motives after today's chapter; the cat trusts him and there could be no better endorsement :) I'm with Legolas on the name issue, though. Squeaky has no dignity. That's another 'been there, done that' issue as my father insisted on addressing my long ago stable manager, Shiloh (a dainty calico) as Squeaky for the same reason. She supervised every stall I cleaned and every riding lesson I taught, but never did manage a decent miaow. I did love Legolas and his picking at Aragorn. This elf has to know how love works, and it's good to see the less restrained sort of humor. He is male and I think it goes without saying that elf or no, there is that side of him just as there is with all males. I really enjoyed his means of expressing it :) Thank you for sharing this story with us. I know it's about to get darker and that has me a bit worried, but I still smile every time I see a new chapter. Sayre

....what a great chapter....lol!!! I loved the beginning....the mood of the autumnday and the way both assosiate with each other is just perfect in your description. I still grin by the thought how Aragorn blushes. And then you build up the tension through Legolas pain and the unexpected visit of Alun. That was great...and still you let us in complete darkness what really is going on the city and why it is so very dangerous for the both. But I bet you have a very, very interessting turn in your plot. And the end had me falling of my chair.....Squeaky...that is hilarious!!

sofia · 18 March 2004 · Chapter 16: Daydream Believer

I love how the last bit tells us that the cats name really is squeaky.

OakWolf · 18 March 2004 · Chapter 16: Daydream Believer

Best Chapter in a long time-And probably the funniest,Loved the shock of Legolas when he found out the cat's name.Jolly Good!

Kitt of Lindon · 18 March 2004 · Chapter 16: Daydream Believer

This chapter was err, cool with Alun as visiter. I like how Aragorn contrasts Elves from Men and the detail of Alun noticing the Elvish glow. Alun's examination of Legolas' weapons was interesting. How heavy the drawback was, the lightness of the blades. It was described so I could quite well imagine holding them myself. Heh, and I love how the cat's name *is* Squeaky.

LKK · 18 March 2004 · Chapter 16: Daydream Believer

Oh my stars! Squeaky really *is* the cat's name! I burst out laughing and applauding at that revelation, Nightwing. An absolutely perfect surprise! I'm sorry I've haven't stepped up my review writing to match your new updating speed. I don't want you to think that I'm not still reading though. This has been a great story from the very beginning. I look forward to each chapter. Clearly the plot has reached a new avenue. I'm very curious to find out what is going on down in the city. Although Our Heroes have vowed to stay out of the political turmoil down there, I can't help but think they'll be dragged into it somehow. My guess is that something will happen to the boy. Our Heroes will hear about it (probably through Alun) and will go to the rescue or possibly avenge. But then, you've done a fine job of surprising me in this story, so I will probably be proven wrong. I have some other predictions that will probably prove wrong. Perhaps the citizens are controlled (indirectly) by whoever controls the Elven Queen-killing orcs. And perhaps the citizens are being primed to attack the strange elves over the mountain. Okay, okay, you can stop snickering at my predictions now. It's not nice to snicker at your avid readers. ;-) Wonderful job as always, Nightwing. (And I'm still grinning over the cat's true identity!) LKK

French Pony · 18 March 2004 · Chapter 16: Daydream Believer

Alun is back! I like him. He is a worthy addition to your somewhat limited cast of characters. He is honorable and respectable, and it seems that Our Heroes are sorely in need of a friend at the moment. Again, I love all the detail you put in -- what herbs are going into the pain medicine, the dust gathering on Legolas's bow (what a sad image that was!), the effects of a scythe that is too short. All of these little bits really bring the story alive in a way that very few stories are. Which is why I like reading this one. And Squeaky! Yes, that laugh was sorely needed right about now. Sorry this is so short. I'm at work.

Elenora · 16 March 2004 · Chapter 15: Search for Understanding

I am thoroughly enjoying this story - and I'm frankly mesmerized with this plot of Legolas and Aragorn trapped in this cabin over the winter with the ominous threat of the men in the city (and their belligerance of strangers and elves) hanging over them. I haven't a clue where this is headed, which is rather nice, since I usually tend to figure out the outcome way ahead of time. I'm totally in the dark on this one and thus you have me riveted - I anxiously anticipate each and every update! Thanks for the great read and looking forward to the next chapter... Elenora P.S. Love that cat!! Seems so apropos having a cat take so to Legolas.

French Pony · 10 March 2004 · Chapter 15: Search for Understanding

Yes, Legolas is indeed brave to get up every morning and go about his business. So many people think that courage is puffing up and smacking the bejezus out of someone else, but it isn't. It's staring a tragedy smack in the face, pulling up the bootstraps and walking through it. You gotta admire Legolas for doing that, and you gotta admire Aragorn for sticking with him. It would indeed be lovely to be a cat. To be smart, swift and beautiful, and so stylish that you don't need to do anything besides lounge around all day and hunt mice.

Muinthel · 9 March 2004 · Chapter 15: Search for Understanding

....just wanted to let you know that this chapter really brightened my day!!! A longer review will be on its way when I have my house to myself again...;-) I really enjoyed this and the last chapter!!!

Elenora · 9 March 2004 · Chapter 15: Search for Understanding

I am very sorry that I've not given you a review before now...I've had your story downloaded for quite a while - ever since I read "The Healer" and was absolutely riveted by the quality and intensity of that story. After promptly writing everyone I knew and telling them they absolutely HAD to read it, I then located your second story and downloaded it to my PC. But RL has gotten in the way and I only recently got back to it and started reading it...I've done myself a terrible injustice letting it sit idle for so long! This story is at least as riveting - if not more so - than your previous story and I have been totally immersed in it. So of course, I was thoroughly pleased to see an update and decided it was about time I let you know just how much I've been enjoying this story. You are an astonishingly good writer and I'm to the point now that if I see "Nightwing," I'm going to read, no questions asked!! You have done a marvelous job of building on the hinted relationship between Aragorn and Legolas that Peter Jackson has given us glimpses of, and I'm wondering if you've also used the created history of Cassia and Siobhan (of which I think is fantastic) from which to extrapolate more. In either case, you've still managed to keep the two "true to themselves," while inventing a depth of relationship that seems like Tolkien could have written it! I love it and once again, I feel a very great need to write everyone I know and implore them to start reading this story!! Last time, I got replies telling me "It was fantastic! I couldn't put it down!!" and I have no doubt but that the reaction will be the same. Anyway, just wanted you to know that your work is very much appreciated and I'm very anxious to see how this story will resolve. I ache for Legolas and you've elicited quite a bit of "anxiety" from me - I hope you realize the power you authors wield over your readers!!! LOL! Thanks for the great read! Yet another wonderful chapter. I admire the way you pace your story and the depths you put into it. Thanks! I´m looking forward to more. Alina

Kitt of Lindon · 5 March 2004 · Chapter 14: First Contact

I was completely computer-less for a few days so it was such a pleasant surprise to see you posted. Oh, the plot thickens with every new chapter. It is interesting having new characters coming into the story. Tarnan's sorrow over the old man was so...sad, but believable. I like the character Alun, he seems to be the trustworthy sort (I'm supposing for now.) Cheers to you!

tmelange · 3 March 2004 · Chapter 14: First Contact

Great continuation!

Theresa Green · 3 March 2004 · Chapter 14: First Contact

I love your original characters, Nightwing. You get the balance just right with their initial suspicion of Aragorn and Legolas tempered by understanding later on. I like how Alun realises that Legolas is blind, but says nothing. Very tactful. And I am intrigued by this mysterious sorceror. I'm looking forward to learning more about him. The child's reaction to the news of the death of his dear friend was beautifully done. He is an engaging lad, isn't he. Brave, lively and confident. (He will make a good leader after his father is gone.) I am also puzzled by the reason behind the bad reputation that Elves have in the city. Perhaps you will reveal the reason for this later on, or maybe it is just the usual kind of suspicion that we tend to have for those who are different. As always I enjoyed your style of writing. To the reader it seems effortless. I'm sure it isn't, but it seems that way. Best of luck in the hunt for a new job. Take care. Theresa

daw the minstrel · 2 March 2004 · Chapter 14: First Contact

The boy and the soldier are very convincing characters. I like the lively child who still does as he's told by his guard, whom he obviously respects. Legolas is apparently not as good at hiding his blindness as he had hoped he would be, at least not to a perceptive observer. And the plot thickens. I wonder who the sorcerer is?

French Pony · 2 March 2004 · Chapter 14: First Contact

Sorry about ignoring your request -- I didn't mean to blow it off. At first I didn't know how to respond, and then I got real busy and didn't have time to do anything about it. I did get it, and I did spend some time thinking about it. The reason I didn't dash off an e-mail right away is that I'm really cyber-shy, and I feel weird about e-mailing with other authors, especially since my e-mail program would tell you my real name, which I don't like to give out. It's nothing against you personally; it's just that I'm kind of a skittish Pony with everyone. Please don't feel bad about it. Anyway, on to this chapter. Ah, Legolas, you can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people all of the time, but you can't fool Alun this particular time. How interesting to see other characters in this story! For so long, it's been just the two of them, and this really tight interaction has made for some incredible depth and richness of character. And just when it might have started to feel a little claustrophobic, ta-da! new characters arrive. Masterful. These two new arrivals seem to be fairly high-ranking, which is good news for Our Heroes; if they have some clout in the village, then the good impression that A. and L. leave on them might translate into them being either left alone or actively assisted later on when the villagers discover them. Now I am very curious about these villagers; they've existed on the periphery of the story for so long that they've been almost invisible, but now they make their presence known, and what an interesting presence it is! It's too bad that the kid had to learn this way that the old man, who was clearly a friend and mentor, had died. but interesting that he seems to have a ready suspect in mind.

sofia · 2 March 2004 · Chapter 14: First Contact

Its nice to know that Legolas and Aragorn have people willing to help them then fight against them. The story should get very intresting with how Alun says "If I can protect you from what lies ahead, I will." very intresting...

Lamiel · 2 March 2004 · Chapter 14: First Contact

Oh, Nightwing, I was so sure we'd be getting to some Elf torture soon! For a town so unfriendly to strangers, they do have some nice people around don't they? But this wizard sounds intriguing. And Legolas is going to have to work some more at concealing his blindness. Not an easy task. Now I'm wondering just what sort of secrets the leaders are keeping, and what their history is, that they distrust the Elves so much. Ignorance breeds fear, but for such active hate perhaps there is something more there. Well, I'll just keep waiting. I'm enjoying the friendship between Aragorn and Legolas as much as I am the mystery. And in the meantime there's that other Elf torture fic to look up. I'm having trouble tracking down Cassia's webpage - I know I've seen it before, but I can't find it now. Could you please post the URL to RMH? Thank you kindly, and wonderful work! Lamiel

Alina · 2 March 2004 · Chapter 14: First Contact

This is a great story - sorry I din´t review earlier! I love the way you take time with your story (many people rush things so much), but you never fail to keep the tension up anyway. I´m looking forward to what dangers lie ahead. Alina

Kay · 2 March 2004 · Chapter 14: First Contact

I absolutely love this story, and was excited to see a new chapter. Though I am not the most faithful reviewer, I must let you know I am always looking for an update to your wonderful story! Your writing is exceptional. Even in the no-action chapters I just hang on to every word. I have a feeling we're getting ready to see quite a bit of action coming up, though. Oops, I don't think Legolas wanted to hear that. Can't wait for more of this, Nightwing. Thank you!

Ithilien · 29 February 2004 · Chapter 13: Toil and Trouble

Delighted to see a new chapter! You know I adore this story, and waiting for new installments is a hardship. But patience pays off and we are rewarded. Glad to see that as much as Real Life piles on you are still true to your fans. Don't forget us. I'm so excited to see where this story is going to go. I'm thrilled to see Legolas on the mend, but am also glad to see his recovery is slow and something he must adapt to. Blindness aside, no one who suffers like that just gets out of bed and is fine. Your past tense vision of his collapse (with mud in hand) was well told, and I could imagine his mortification at awakening being covered in the stuff. Taught him a lesson. Bah, stubborn elf. Go take a nap, wouldya? My other favorite thing in this chapter is Legolas and Aragorn's easy banter. Clucking sounds indeed. Only to be followed with a running stream of "great-great-great"s. You had me rolling. I'm not sure how he can do it, but it feels good to know Legolas can swing an axe. That skill might come in handy later, don't you think? Kind of like his ability to appear sighted. At the same time, I feel like Aragorn, afraid of the danger and what the elf might do to himself with that axe. I'm scared to death to go near one of those tools -- so afraid I'll swing and lob off a toe. Klutz that I am, I probably would too. There is a reason the hubby won't let me play with the power tools. But I digress. The picture of Legolas running headlong into a tree had me giggling. Silly vision. I can see it done in a Monty Python-ish way too. SPLAT! *giggle* But all the humor aside, you've set us up with some dread. Two riders are coming? Who are they and what do they want? Oooh, looming sense of foreboding. Cue the music, in minor chords, please. Can't wait to see what comes next. More please, Nightwing, more. Forget what I said before about patience. Heck, screw the day job. This should be your key occupation. Just give us more soon. Please. *wink*
