Welcome back, Fiondil. Love seeing these relaxing into healing at last, and Finrod increasingly taking on the responsibilities of his position.

Thanks Larner. It's good to be back. The next few chapters are relaxing and healing for everyone... the calm before the next storm. Heh!

What a glorious reunion. It looks like Finrod came back just in time. Poor Lindorillë seemed to be fading fast. I would not at all be suprised to see the older Elves get into a bit of mischief with the Elflings. One is never too old for a bit of harmless fun.
Tari
Author's reply
I'm sure that Finrod, Glorfindel and Ingwion will get into all sorts of mischief while they are in Lórien, dragging the elflings along, much to the dismay of Lord Irmo and the Maiar. *grin* And no, one is never too old for a bit of harmless fun.

Glorfindel is right, they can't keep on running home to 'Unca' Irmo' everytime something happens to upset them, they need to learn how to cope with what life throws at them, they can't do that in Lorien!
Lindorelle is one stubborn little ellith, it will serve her well in later life, if she is wise about what she digs her toes in over!
The Elflings are all very happy to see Finrod back, now things can get back to normal, or what passes for normal in Lorien, when thay are around!:)
I hope Finrod can make peace with his grand mother, she must have loved Finwe very much to have done what she did, even with Mirel's 'permission'!
Glad to see you made it to your destination. Are you getting used to hearing German spoken in stead of Chinese? I was a little concerned for you with all the troubles in Georgia, I am not sure how close to any of it you would have come, the old USSR was a huge area!
Welcome back,
More please,
Lynda
Author's reply
I'm getting used to hearing German and welcome it over the Chinese. At least I can pick out a word or two having learned a little German some years ago. And of course more people speak English than not so that helps. I was nowhere near Georgia and was unaware that there was any trouble. I never felt threatened during my week traveling between Moscow and St. Peterburg... everyone was very friendly.
Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter. As for whether Finrod and Indis will make peace remains to be seen but it's not out of the realm of possibilities.

Oh, NOT fair!! I want to know more about the paint incident! "Unca' Finda" huh? He hasn't heard that in a long time, I'd wager. Where's Finduilas when you need her? *grins*
And speaking of uncles, Beleg got to see his "other uncle" again! Yay! I'm so glad they were reunited. And we've got Maiar watching over Glorfi and the others again...of course...They're going to be kept busy in Lorien now Glorfi's there (under Atar's orders? *grin*)
~Kaylee!!
(do I take this update to mean you have returned from the Void, meldonya? *snicker*)
Author's reply
Yes, this update means I'm back from the 'Void'. LOL I'm sure Finrod secretly enjoys being called "Unca' Finda" and I have the feeling the other elflings will pick up on it and call him that when they are not officially on duty as his pages. *grin*

· Chapter 21: Reclaiming Elflings
Welcome back! I hope you enjoyed your holiday.
A fun chapter and I can just imagine the other mischief the elflings got into but "The Great Paint Incident"? Well, I'm definitely looking forward to the explanation as much as Finrod, Glorfindel and Ingwion are.
I think my favorite bit of the chapter was when Orome asked after Sador, though. That particular Valar's interest in the young potter has intrigued me ever since you introduced him in EI:1.
Finrod didn't expect to hear himself referred to as "Unca’ Finda?", did he? . I'm so glad that Lindorillë has awakened at last. She and the others are going to be awfully clingy for quite a while, I would suspect.
Then there's Sorondil and Oromendil with their new friend, Gwindor. I'm glad to see the two boys being "kids" instead of prematurely "grown up" adults. I suppose that is something that is common to both Men and the Eldar--children want to grow up too fast. Poor ellyn, I'm all too familiar with the "wishing the earth would open up beneath them and swallow them whole" feeling, aren't you? Though it's very kind and sweet of Ingil to not tell tales out of turn.
"Too much green in Lorien"... right... this should be REALLY good.
Thanks for a lovely read. Hugs!
Christine
Author's reply
We will eventually learn what interest Oromë has for Sador (and Beleg), but it has to wait awhile.
I think "Unca' Finda" is going to enjoy having the elflings cling to him a bit. It will remind him of his younger siblings when they were growing up and the responsibility he had for them. It will do him so good.
The "Great Paint Job Incident"... welll, you'll have to let me know just how great it is when I post it. *grin* Thanks for reviewing.

OMG, you're finally writing again. I was beginning to think YOU had fallen into the 10th dimension LOL! Anyway, glad to see Lindorille's getting better. This was a great chapter and I can't wait to hear about what Sorondil, Oromendil and Gwindor have actually done. (another Reborn causing trouble? Irmo must be sick of them by now, if I were him I'd have gone to Mandos myself by now to get away from it all!) Sorry if this review is too long, but I'm overly enthusiastic because I've had a long wait. Please update asap!

Oh the review isn't long at all. *grin* I didn't drop off the face of the earth, just have been traveling for the last few weeks. Yay, an update! And even sooner than your e-mail promised! Thank you!
It is only to be expected that after the Tournament the group around our favourite balrog-slayer has to split up and return to their respective homes, but I will miss having everyone around.
I was glad Vánandur was so nice to Beleg! It is so obvious how much Beleg did need someone like him, poor guy.
What an idea to send Glorfindel to Nienna, too. Aldundil, Vorondil, Ingwion *and* Glorfindel would be more than any Valar could handle, no matter how many Maiar are around to help! *grin*
Ah, good - Lindorillë is on the path to recovery :) Well done, Finrod!
And the idea of Glorfindel teaching tricks to the elflings left me howling with laughter! Ah yes, he would have tremendous fun with that! Though I get the impression the elflings are able to get into a lot of mischief even without him.
Of course you realise that I am dying to know what Indil is relating now??
Author's reply
Thanks, Kitty. I'm gald you enjoyed this chapter. All good things come to an end but even though everyone is going their separate ways I'm sure they'll be back together soon enough. As to what Ingil has to tell them.... that's for the next chapter. *grin*

As usual, it didn't take longer than the first sentence to have me completely hooked.
Hmmmm, Glorfindel threatening the Maia - what will he do next I wonder?! Never a dull moment when he is around, that's for sure.
I always love it when you write of elflings and the things they do - what amusement (and consternation!) they bring to their elders! And I do hope you are going to let Ingil continue on with the story?
Hope you enjoyed your vacation and glad to see you back!
Ces
Author's reply
Actually I think Glorfindel was threatening the Valar, but that's a minor issue. LOL
Never fear. The next chapter will be devoted entirely to Ingil's tale about the "Great Paint Job Incident".
I've enjoyed my trip for the most part (still on it in fact for at least another day and a half) but it will be nice to finally settle for a while. I will be updating my other stories over the next week as time permits.

Excellent chapter - I wasn't even psst the first few sentences when I realized this!
I was saddened over the comment about the tent city and orcs... a sad state of affairs that such beautiful, wondrous beings - sometimes :-) - could have such horrid memeories.
I loved the comment about scraping knees... well said, dear Glorfindel. Though I truly hate it when these two are separated.... 'course, easier for them to get into trouble when they're together... did not the Valar think of that? :-)
The little 'tease' about Sador now has me wondering and concerned for that dear Reborn....
I loved Glorfindel's threat... once he changed his mind... and the Maiar's reaction...
I loved the healing of the little one...
Great chapter once again... glad to 'see' you back!

Getting into a little mischief every now and then never hurts. I, myself, refuse to be as old as my age. It’s more fun being stuck in a young age such at 25.
Finrod and Glorfindel sharing the win and loss is definitely a sign of maturity and sharing the prize with Sador and Alassiel is a nice touch and should be greatly appreciated I’m sure. Those two really had their hands full. The gifting ceremony was also very touching, especially the giving of the swords to Finrod and Glorfinel.
Have a safe trip.

You are officially charged with leading me astray. To get into the spirit of this chapter, I had to *begin* lunch with my cheese and cherry strudel.... [I enjoy currants and would love to try a cheese and currant tart. In fact, I would happily grow black currants -- and probably make my own crème de cassis -- except that they're illegal here because the wild ones are an alternate host for white pine blister rust. Hearty "BOOS" and hisses easterly in the general direction of the NC Dept. of Ag.]
"Now, what mischief have you gotten yourself into lately?" "Me?" Glorfindel exclaimed, looking suddenly guilty, though he didn’t think he should be feeling guilty about anything -- Perhaps he's feeling guilty for *not* having gotten into mischief lately? A certain amount of mischief is expected of him....
Glorfindel's sword ... well, either way, I can only say "WOW."
Eönwë announced the finalists of the sword-and-shield competition. Finrod and Glorfindel came with *Ingwion* while *Mithlas* and *Aldarion* ... stepped forward to join them.
Again, Ingwë spoke first, addressing the *six* warriors standing before him....
(mention of Finrod and Glorfindel)
"Let us first award the *three* other finalists before we tell you our solution" --
If six finalists are being honored, there should be a mention of Gilvagor. But since he isn't awarded any prize, I imagine you mean *five* warriors? Or am I missing something?
Have fun traveling. Your faithful audience will endeavor not to expire from Glorfindel-withdrawal (Finrod-withdrawal, too) in your absence. Hm: how desperate will we be in three weeks?
Author's reply
You're right. It should be five. I was still thinking of the six finalists for the archery competition. I've made the correction.

I also doubt they will be allowed a rematch. They are lucky if they are allowed to take part in any other competition again.
But it´s nice of them to give their price to Sador and Alassiel as a reward for the child-minding. They truly deserve it.
I wonder who was the former owner of the sword and if Glorfindel had known him in his first life.

Declairing them both winners/losers was the only soultion and them giving the prize to Sador and Alessiel was only fair since they had to deal with 5 rambunctious elflings. Hope Finrod is able to help Arunna(sp).

Raiding the kitchen like elflings is certainly a rather unique form of stress relief for respectable warriors *grin* But as long as it works ... ;-)
Nice solution to the dilemma *who* has truly won the Tournament. Really, I doubt anyone will allow Finrod and Glorfindel to fight against each other again, at least for the next few centuries! A pity, really, but too dangerous ... *sigh* If they'd ever try, then probably all the Valar and a host of warrior Maiar would show up to separate them.
I think it was wise to let Finrod explain publicly what happened, at least to a certain extend - it is clear Glorfindel and Finrod can't tell them everything. And I loved the ceremony to honour the winners. The gifts you found for the finalists are lovely - they show so much thought and appreciation of them. No wonder particularly Beleg, Finrod and Glorfindel were moved to tears!
Enjoy your journey, my dear! I'll miss my weekly Fiondil fixes, no doubt. I'll probably have to re-read EI completely again, and a few other stories as well to tide me over. And I look forward to mid-August!

I've been waiting on pins and needles for this chapter - it was well worth the wait...
I smiled in the very first paragraph with the decision... I said YES when they decided to take them to the encampment... I felt embarrassed, for I had forgotten the poor elflings in the midst of all this... I just aw'd at the scene as the road was 'lined on both sides' - very nice.... I loved the paragraph with the warriors picking up the cots and aw'd at the sight it must have been... I had to hope that none would ever forget this procession... I laughed at the idea of the feast (don't tell anyone - they sound suspiciously like Hobbits!)... I love Finrod's sighs of contentment... and the fact that he is still, and always will be, Arafinwe's elfling, his Finda... You had me rolling on the floor laughing at the scene with Glorfindel and the hapless healer... good grief - poor thing! And I just cried at Glorfindel's fear of restraints... *sobs quietly* - I loved Beleg's command... and laughed out loud at the healer's quick escape and wise decision to ask for another assignment! - I loved the ending with laughter... all is well with the world... at least for another moment or two

They forgot the most important reason why they should be brought to Vanyamar, not to Lórien: When all the elves who want to see for themselves that Finrod and Glorfindel are okay are rushing to Lórien, then this will no longer remain a haven of peace and calm *grin*
Lovely image of the warriors forming a honour guard, btw.
Anyway, I am glad they listened to Ingwion and Laurendil, particularly as the kings got to see the two missed ones much sooner this way. It was really moving to see their concern for all of them. I felt so sorry for Arafinwë and Olwë for having to go through this all.
Ouch. Glorfindel’s awakening didn’t go very well. This unfortunate earlier incident left it’s marks on him, that much is obvious. And the poor healer probably didn’t even understand why one look at her was enough to send him into a panic. (I doubt any of Ingwë’s healers will touch him ever again after this *grin*)
The end was just hilarious. I said I was asleep you stupid Noldo. What part of that didn’t you understand? *rofl* Maybe the part of speaking in his ‚sleep’ while being too aware of what is going on? *evil grin* Well, Glorfindel found a perfect way to make sure if Beleg was asleep or not! And of course, Finrod had to take the game another step further *snicker* These elflings are so entertaining!
Great chapter, Fiondil! I look forward to know what happens when Finrod returns to the elflings in Lórien. And come to think of it ... what about Pelendur? The situation on Tol Eressëa? ... So many interesting things to look forward to! *happy sigh*

Times of trial always seem to be “warring” parties together. Why can’t they be like that all the time? For us, it’s human nature. I guess for the elves, it’s elf nature as they have the same freedom of choice we have.
Finrod, Glorfindel and Beleg might be a bit week, but that didn’t stop two of them from tussling. What a delightful scene that made in my mind. The elfling in them shines through.

Well, it's unlikely that it was this particular healer Glorfindel saw last but certainly he recognized her as being one of Ingwë's healers and wanted nothing to do with her. · Chapter 19: Recovery
Oh, this was just what I needed to read this morning! I have the biggest smile on my face and am trying to keep my laughter under control so I don't wake up my roommates.
I think that Manveru has got some nice blackmail material on Finrod now , if he dares to use it. I also thought that Arafinwë's "I think I’ll just continue calling you Finda, yonya," he said softly as he gave the ellon a gentle kiss on his brow, "for you are still my elfling." was perfect. We are always "elflings" to our parents, no matter how old we are, aren't we.
That poor healer! I'm betting that she got stuck with the assignment of Glorfindel as a "Welcome to mastership" initiation and she's going to be plotting revenge on whoever it was who submitted her name for the job.
But the best part was at the end when Findarato told Glorfindel and Beleg to be quiet, pretending to be asleep and calling them his brothers' names. If Glorfindel had any last fears that he was part of Finrod's family on sufferance, this had to have erased them. And Beleg has now officially been adopted, too, whether he realises it or not. Though I haveto wonder which of the two ellyn is which brother . And the comment about Artanis was pure "big brother."
Though amusing, and not really surprising, the regression of Finrod, Glorfindel and Beleg into (somewhat bratly, in the case of Glorfindel and Beleg anyway) elflings is also rather sad. In spite of the intervention of the Valar and Eru Himself, all three have been thoroughly traumatised. I wonder how long it will be before they are back to being ready to take up their adult responsibilities again.
Which brings up Sador, Ingwion and Laurendil who have been traumatised by the incident(s) as well. I hope that Irmo has s few Maiar on watch for each of them as well, because I fear that once they don't haveto be responsible for the care of their otornor, the what ifs as well as what really happened are going to hit them awfully hard.
The love that they all have for each other is so apparent in this chapter: Arafinwë's love for Finrod (and his other absent children as well), Olwë's love for Beleg, Finrod's love for his atar and otorno, Glorfindel and Beleg's fraternal love and affection for each other (complete with teasing and arguments)... no wonder I am brimming over with delight.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the relationships between the otornor develop (for some reason I am really curious to see how Sador and Beleg get along as they grow to know each other) and what repercussions ensue from Finrod and Glorfindel's not so little adventure. Of course, I'm curious to know how Aldundil and Vorondil are doing as well as the elflings.
Most excellently crafted, meldonya! (And I managed to write a long review for you again--with only one cut and paste--again)
Eru bless,
Edlyn
Author's reply
Hi Edlyn. I'm glad you found this such a delightful chapter. After all the angst in earlier chapters I'm sure everyone welcomed this lighter scene. I guess getting called by your otorno's brothers' name is one way of knowing you've been 'adopted' by the family. *lol*
I'm not sure if these three have really regressed so much as they are merely indulging in play, acting like bratty teenage brothers with the usual teasing and tussling as a release from what has happened. As for the other three elves... I'm sure everyone is keeping a close eye on them as well, knowing that what they went through will not be easily forgotten.
At any rate, over the course of the story we will see what connection Beleg has with Sador and the others and how Vorondil, Aldundil and the five elflings are doing as well.
Thanks for reviewing. I really appreciate it and I'm glad you're back to writing long reviews. I missed them. *grin*
