"We’re actually witnesses," Glorfindel added somewhat primly. - Bet that doesn't happen often! Especially after the oaths he was muttering earlier!
So the judgement is coming. Should be interesting. Can't wait for the next chapter.
Glad to see Eönwë on the job and taking notes! I really do want a peek inside his book one of these days!
I will try and wait patiently for the next update!

Another marvelous chapter! Very nice to see Glorfindel and Celepharn coming full circle and becoming friends. Such an interesting twist you've thrown us with interfering maiar. Glorfindel being the key.... Oh, the Valar have my sympathies! :)
Looking forward to more!

I am not sure if you are getting me more or more hooked or you are getting better and better.
Glorfi his old good self looking like a cat over a pot of cream and Finrod´s "It seemed like a good idea at that time",
Valar treating one of the Children as a such, only the child in the question being an adult warrior and a prince.
Good to know that they did not reapeted the mistake they had made with Feanor
Great chapter.

Thanks, naine. I really appreciate you letting me know how much you are enjoying this tale. I hope it's both (you getting hooked and I getting better *grin*).
The Valar do learn from their mistakes, which is why they are going slowly and carefully with this particular situation. We will see in the next chapter how it all comes out.

Wheee, new chapter! I swear, I'm getting a sixth sense about this story. At school today, I was all like, ' Hey, I bet there's going to be a new EI chapter up today!'to my friend ( who also reads this) and I was right. - smugsmile-
But, anywho, amazing writing as usual- you honestly rival Tolkien himself- and Celepharn is awesome. xD. And update soon. And I feel sorry for Lisselinde and Olorin. Oooh, hey, maybe Olorin got sent to M.E. as a punishment.
-ponders-
-tries to remeber what year it is currently in EI-
-decides that that probably won't happen and discards thought-

If you want to know it is the year 504 in the Second Age... Olórin still has almost 4000 years before he goes to ME. *grin*
Glad you liked this chapter. I generally update on a regular basis, usually once a week, so be patient. I do have two other WIPs that I'm writing and they take up some of my writing time, too.

I suppose this is a sort of ”Quiet before the storm” chapter, a buildup to the upcoming fun (in the next chapter?). And just what did Manwë tell Eönwë to tell the kings? Yes, I know, “Wait for the next chapter”. So I will _try_ to be patient.
Glorfindel and Celepharn’s activities reminded me of my childhood – taking planks, nails, a hammer and other stuff into the forest and building a cabin there … ;-) Heh, does _Celepharn_ know why he suddenly got a new roommate?
Talking about reminders – for some reason I am reminded of a poem by the Norwegian poet André Bjerke, called _Kjemisk Reaksjon(– that is _Chemical Reaction_ to those of you out there who don’t know Norwegian) about a meeting between potassium chlorate and red phosphorus. It fits well with chapter 24, it shall be interesting to see if it goes as well with upcoming chapters, particularly in view of Námo’s sudden bit of insight.
It seems that Glorfindel is as good at giving the Valar headaches when he isn’t doing anything in particular, as when he is neck deep in trouble. Just worrying about what he is going to do next seems to be sufficient for that. No wonder Manwë has assigned an extra nanny, I mean guard. Well, I suppose what they are really worrying about is Glorfindel’s status as a catalyst, or whatever it is he is intended to be. And keeping the two halves of the Dynamic Duo (Glorfy and Finrod) apart from each other right now is as much common sense as keeping the two halves of the above mentioned chemical reaction apart.
I also look forward to seeing just _what_ Nienna has in store for Aldundil and Vorondil (and Ingwion).
Author's reply
We will learn (eventually) just why Glorfindel is where he is and what Nienna has in store for Aldundil, Vorondil and Ingwion and what the Valar plan to do with Finrod. The next chapter will detail the Judgment of the Maiar.

The elflings will love the flet. And I imagine the Reborn will love it also -- tree-climbers that they all seem to be! And doubtless various of the artistic elves would have fun painting it ... but then again, Irmo prefers natural-color vegetation, so I rather doubt the flet will be painted (unless very conservatively); too bad! Hm -- plenty of room in that grove for additional flets: nice large trees....
"impinge" seems to have lost its "e."
"With Tilion, actually" -- If Eärendil has been replaced by a Real Astronomical Planet, what about Tilion? [Though I assume the Real Astronomical Planet still somehow involves a Silmaril, so the unmistakable quality of the light remains unchanged, not to mention the air-water-fire symbolism of the Silmarils' fates.]
Wondering about Arafinwë's history....
You might want to add "indyo" to your translations in the final A/N. (Yes, it's obvious from the context -- plus I looked it up.)
It sounds as if there's to be a public trial.
Just want to say that I have NO IDEA why Glorfindel is in Lórien.
Author's reply
Well Tilion has been replaced by a Real Astronomical Planet as well... You notice I didn't specify *where* they met with Tilion... and most likely the Maia is still supervising the Moon just as Arien supervises the Sun.
I defined 'Indyo' in EI1 and refuse to repeat myself. Anyone who's reading EI2 should already have read EI1. And as you said, it's clear from the context what the word means anyway. And if they still don't get it then they can look it up just as you did. *grin*
Thanks for letting me know that 'impinge' was misspelled.

So they found the two Maiar. Seems I guessed right that Olórin mainly went missing because he tried to prevent Lisselindë from making things worse for herself, though I still wonder (and worry) what will happen to them now.
Of course you realise now I’m bursting with curiosity what Manwë is up to when even Eönwë shivers about the message he has to deliver, don’t you?
Hm, Celepharn is much nicer now, and it seems to do Glorfindel a world of good to get to play with him. The fleet seems a lovely idea. Though this line made me laugh: "And if they let us, or rather me, near any... um... tools." Glorfindel is under no illusions, is he? *grin*
Glad Finrod made his peace with the elflings and even told them he considers to keep Veryandur and Eruanna there longer. I’d certainly not object, as I have a soft spot particularly for Veryandur.
Indis is quite formidable and I can understand very well why Finrod would prefer to be somewhere else, but at least I agree with her about Almáriel ;-)
Well, I can see why Ingwion was upset. Of course he’s overdue at Nienna’s, but to be sent off without explanations isn’t the best way. That he decided to go on his own free will after he was told the whole tale proves that, I think. (And I loved the bit with the chair for Námo *lol*)
The end of the chapter does a great job in making me worried again ... I’m still not sure what exactly is going on *sigh* And I don’t like that they think Glorfindel will be the key. What do you have in store for my favourite balrog-slayer this time?
Author's reply
Hi Kitty. Well we'll see very shortly just what will happen to the two Maiar and just why Námo thinks Glorfindel is the key to everything (but of course he has to be the key to everything or there wouldn't be a story, would there? *grin*).
I think Indis had to rather formidable, considering her history. And of course she's very good at making her grandchildren feel like elflings even when they are adults. Still, I think in the end Indis will be a good ally to Finrod. She's definitely someone you want on your side when push comes to shove.

Well, I made it safely back from A Long Expected Party (I wish you could have attended!)and found this chapter up. An excellent read as always, meldonya. I'm looking forward to seeing what is in store for Vorondil and Aldundil and am worrying very much about the upcoming Judgment. And like everyoine, I want to find out what Glorfindel is doingin Lorien. Though, I'm finding myself strongly suspecting that his developing friendship Celepharn has something to do with it (or I might be wrong...).
Finrod's apology to the elflings and their response to him were lovely to read. I liked the silent conference they had before giving him the group hug and of course I like the idea of the two youngest sticking around.
Igwion needs to watch his mouth, though. He was pretty arrogant there for a bit. Thank you for the little touch of humour about Námo bringing his own chair since he hadn't been invited to the meeting.
Great job!
Edlyn
Author's reply
Glad you enjoyed ALEP, Edlyn. I wish I could've attended too. Well, maybe another time. Anyway, we will see what Nienna has in store for Vorondil and his atar (and Ingwion) and we will learn why Glorfindel is in Lórien as well. I think Ingwion is feeling put upon and pretty much left out of everything interesting. He rather resents being treated like an elfling (or so he thinks) and let's face it, Námo and Irmo were just a little highhanded themselves.
I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter. Thanks for reviewing.

So Glorfindel is in Lorien for a reason but only Atar knows, looks like he is drawing crooked again!
I hope Lissalinde and Olorin do not get in too much trouble, Namo's little 'chats' can have distubing consequences, for the 'chatee's' and those around them!
I think Irmo should have Glorfi and Finda clean up the grove and apologise to the trees and Yavanna for damaging them, I think between them he and Namo and Manwe should have enough Maia to ensure there are no problems letting them use 'tools'!
I hope Glorfindel and Calaphern enjoy themselves building the talan, if any thing it will keep them out of trouble and gainfully occupied!
I also think Manwe is wise to get the Eldar kings involved in this, it is not the sort of thing one can announce after the fact , Oh, one of the Maia did something that they should not have involving some of the first born, but it's all been taken care of, so don't worry about it!
More please,
Lynda
Author's reply
Manwë realizes that the gravity of the situation precludes the Valar from keeping the incident 'under wraps', because it won't stay that way anyway. Eventually the story will get out and things would just be worse all around. Making the Judgment public will hopefully send a message to various parties that no one is above Judgment so step carefully. Of course, what the elves' reactions to the Judgment will be remains to be seen. Not everyone will be impressed by the Valar's gesture.

who is Celepharn? I'm excited to see where this newest development/disaster goes 'cause honestly I'm a bit lost. but I'm sure after a few more chapters i'll be clearer.
Author's reply
Celepharn, also called Artelemnar, is a character who appeared briefly in "Elf, Interrupted: Book One" as Glorfindel and Sador's roomate while they were all in Lórien. Artelemnar, as he preferred to be called then, is a Noldo who died during the sack of Doriath by Celegorm and Curufin. He was not very nice to Glorfindel and Sador and was sent to another part of Lórien for further 're-education'. Now he prefers to be known by his Sindarin name, Celepharn, and is a much nicer elf. I hope this very brief explanation helps clear up some of your confusion.

Well, Glorfindel and Finrod certainly had a right time of it, didn't they? All that destruction - hopefully they got it all out of their systems now and will move on.
I do feel sorry for Olórin though. I think he got caught up in something more than he imagined. Lisselindë on the other hand seemed to know just what she was doing.
Ces

Námo prefers his other roles as Comforter and Consoler, but he's not averse to taking on the role of Judge when it's called for. Olórin knows what he's about but Lisselindë only thought she knew what she was doing. It will take a couple or three chapters to sort this all out.

Well, I can't even speculate. Not enough info at this point, or else I'm looking at it the wrong way (wouldn't be the first time).
Everybody's miserable. Lisselindë's obviously headed for a lot of regrets. I'm hoping Olorin isn't too culpable -- he seems to have been mostly an observor of Lisselindë's mischief, but I don't feel confident I understand all the implications.
Glorfindel seems on the way to reconciling with Celepharn, so that's *something* positive.
"They are both getting too dangerous to be allowed to remain together" -- But then where would your story be? ;-D
"Considering that even an entire contingent of warrior Maiar were unable to pull them apart" -- Wow. Luckily this should *not* be typical of the vast majority of present and future Reborn!
"I have a feeling that things are just going to get worse before they get better" -- I trust the Valar are taking an unnecessarily gloomy view!

Whoa! Oh are those two Maiar in trouble! I don't even want to be in the same galaxy as NAno when he takes on his aspect of Doomsman of Arda (shivering with dread at the very thought). Lisselinde certainly has caused more trouble than she ever expected to develop, hasn't she?
I know that the Maiar make mistakes and sometimes behave very childishly but this "prank" seems to be rather malicious. How could Lisselinde not have realised that her having Lindorillë find and read the letter would be so hurtful, given the elfling's reaction to Finrod's disappearance into the tenth dimension?
It was nice to hear mention of Vorondil and Aldundil and I'm glad to know that the other elflings are all right. I look forward to seeing what happens next, though I must admit I am feeling a little trepidation at the further consequences of Lisselinde's "prank".
Take care, meldonya, and I hope that you have a good week.

I doubt that what Lisselindë did could be considered a prank. She was completely sincere. It is amazing how fast thing can go completely pearshaped around Glorfindel, isn't it? I wonder if your version of the Valar are acquainted with Murphy's Law? If they are, I wouldn't be surprised if their name for it includes the words "Glorfindel" or "Balrog Slayer" :-)
Lisselindë's rather catty thought about Finrod in chapter 24 ("Lord Findárato was not as clever as he thought he was and Lisselindë was set to prove it") made me wonder what her problem was. Certainly not the right sort of attitude to be working with someone so close to Finrod. And an elfling at that! What _was_ she thinking? Was she thinking at all??
Then the fight: Glorfindel and Finrod going for each others throats with such vigor that an entire contigent of warrior Maiar weren't able to stop them, but actually had to call on the Valar for reinforcement ... They obviously went completely berserk.
I wonder if the elflings are going to learn that Glorfindel and Finrod had a fight, and if they are going to see at least some of the results of it? If so, I wouldn't be surprised if at least the two oldest ellyn are going to look on the carnage with the sort of awe reserved for the results of very well done pranks and large frogs and snakes (or other things that make adults go ewww...)
At last, Námo in true Wrath of Mandos mode. Lisselindë and Olórin are definitely up to their necks in ..ummm, fertilizer, and sinking fast!
Author's reply
Well, Glorfindel cannot be entirely to blame for what happened. There was a great deal of miscalculation on Lisselindë's part.
I doubt if Lisselindë was thinking at all, or rather she was not thinking that the Elves might react differently than what she was expecting. Obviously, whatever she had hoped would happen, it all went south in a hurry. I don't think she really had a clue.
As for the rest... we'll have to wait and see. Námo in Wrath of Mandos mode is no one to fool around with, that's for sure. Thanks for your review.

Well, that the two where starting a fight was clear at the end of the last chapter but that they would destroy the complete grove and a group of warrior maiar could´t stop them but had to call two valat for that...
I know those two are powerful but not that they are that powerful. Did that come from being reborn or from their little trip to the tenth dimension?
Are Lisselindë and Olórin trying to run away from trouble? They should know better than that. Their trouble will only getting worse from that. It would have been better to talk directly to Irmo of Namo after the fight. And I´m still wondering what Lisselindë was trying to archieve by letting the elfling finding the letter.
I hope we get the answer to that soon.
Author's reply
I think Finrod and Glorfindel were already very powerful elves before their deaths. After all, Finrod went up against Sauron in a duel of Words and he was almost winning. Glorfindel went up against a balrog and defeated him. Even Gandalf died fighting a balrog. I think though that being Reborn may have changed them somewhat in ways that even the Valar cannot safely predict.

I find myself wondering about motivations, particularly as Olorin is involved. He isn't usually destructive in his actions, although he admitted to Bilbo he wasn't beyond manipulating others for his own amusement, although he usually has good reasons to choose those he would manipulate, for their own good and that they can do for others as well as for his personal amusement.

What Olórin's motivation and purpose in all this will be revealed shortly. There's more to this particular Maia than meets the eye... even the eyes of the Valar, I think.
