Arrgh! Cliffee Time again! I know, I know, wait until Monday! I am sorry to see the Elflings go as much as Finrod, it will be many years before he and Amarie have Elflings of their own and he will miss having them around to distract him. Vorondil will do his best but he is only one to their five, maybe he can get Uncle Vondo to help him! Finally Glorfindel gets to see Manwe and get some of the answers he has been needing for so long. I am not sure if he will be happy with the answers he gets and what will be asked of him. Now all we have to do is get Finrod and Amarie married off and that will 'Bow' this story. Do you know where they are registered so I can send them a gift, or will Netilmire be able to take a commission!? Huggs, Lynda

Author's reply

Unfortunately, we will not see Finrod and Amarië's wedding here, but I intend to write a companion piece (similar to the Findaráto Diaries) detailing the wedding. I think it would take more than one chapter and I've run out of chapters here. *grin* The wedding story won't happen soon, so just be patient. And yes, finally Glorfindel will get his answers (or most of them). We'll see how he reacts to what Manwë tells him soon enough. Thanks, Lynda, for reading and reviewing (and usually being the first to review a chapter *grin*). I really appreciate it.

Larner · 2 August 2010 · Chapter 144: Sador’s Investiture

It appears there are ALWAYS contingency plans! Heh! I don't blame him for bolting, however.

Author's reply

The Valar are great ones for contingency plans, aren't they? *grin* At least Sador didn't bolt too far and was easily brought back. Not like Finrod. Heh! Thanks for reading and reviewing, Larner. I really appreciate it.

ellie · 2 August 2010 · Chapter 144: Sador’s Investiture

I bet Sador's grandma was pretty stunned by the news that HE is cano. I'm glad she went along with him and his promotion to journeyman was a good thing, too though it paled in comparison to being CANO. Here's slogan for Sador to support his cause: Sador: He puts the CAN in Cano! LOL!!!!! I can empathize with Sador and Ingwion on the moving thing. At least when I fninsh my move I won't be incharge of soemthing so huge as an island - unless I win the lottery and buy an island. I don't envy them though. It will be hard for Ingwe having his son so far away, I'm sure. Cool ceremony with the Valar present. Liked the detail of folks trying to guess which Vala was which. LOL!

Author's reply

Nice slogan. *grin* And yes, I'm sure you could have knocked grandma over with a feather with the news. And actually, I think for Sador, getting promoted to journeyman probably meant a lot more to him than being named Cano. I'm sure it will be hard for Ingwion and his family to have him so far away, although really he's not that far. He's maybe a week's travel away and there isn't an ocean separating him from them. I'm sure they will all adjust. Glad you liked the ceremony and the people trying to guess which Vala is which. Most of the Tol Eresseans had never seen any of the Valar, so it was a natural thing for them to try and figure out who was who. Thanks for reading and reviewing, Ellie. I appreciate it very much.

Sunny · 2 August 2010 · Chapter 144: Sador’s Investiture

Well, Sador did neither faint nor run away screaming during the ceremony of investiture, so I suppose it must be considered a success ;-) Netilmírë seems to calm Sador down. I get the feeling that he is going to spend a fair amount of his spare time in his workshop pounding clay into shape as a way of calming his nerves until he gets used to his new job. Do you think your muse would be interested in a few of Vondo's exploits, since he is evidently even better at getting into trouble than Glorfindel - something that definitely takes talent!! Or perhaps the other Reborn are getting inspired by him, and _that_ is why Irmo is kicking him out of Lórien?

Author's reply

I suspect that Sador will be using the pottery workshop for anger management therapy after a day dealing with the Assembly. *LOL* As for Vondo, you never know. If the Muse finds me a story for him I just might write about him. And Irmo is kicking him out only temporarily. He'll be back in Lórien when Finrod returns there. He still has some growing up to do before he can be safely released into society. *grin* Thanks for reading and reviewing, Sunny. I greatly appreciate it.

Shemyaza · 2 August 2010 · Chapter 144: Sador’s Investiture

Poor Eonwe, I bet he had handwriter's cramp after all that oath writing he did. You do realise that as a result of your version of him as Oathkeeper, that particular task is now set in stone for him don't you? I'm sure that Sador will come into his own and blossom during his period as Cano.

Author's reply

Well, as Eonwe himself said somewhere in one of my stories, the Book is merely a prop. He remembers all oaths and as a Maia, I'm sure he did not suffer from handwriter's cramp, though I have no doubt he was glad when the last oath was made. *grin* And I'm glad that people like my version of Eonwe as Oathkeeper that they include that aspect of him into their own portrayal of the character. I wonder how many people think that's canon rather than fanon. *grin* I have no fear for Sador. He is in his element, even if he doesn't quite believe it yet. Thanks for reading and reviewing, Shemyaza. I really appreciate it.

6336 · 2 August 2010 · Chapter 144: Sador’s Investiture

I can feel this story is slowly drawing to a close and I will miss it when it does. You are starting to dot 'Tees' and cross 'Eyes', tying things up neatly or as neatly as Glorfindel and the Valar will let you! Let me know when Sadors book comes out will you, I would like a copy?! Huggs, Lynda

Author's reply

Yes,I am afraid this story is drawing to a close. There are only a few more chapters to go and I am doing my best to tie up as many loose ends as possible. And if Sador ever writes his book, I'll let you know. *grin* Thanks for reading and reviewing, Lynda. I appreciate it.

Erulisse (one L) · 1 August 2010 · Chapter 143: Departure

I'm on vacation and hardly turning on my laptop, but getting a story update on anything by you is always a treat. And so Sador is, justifiably, upset at the methods used to "nominate" him for the Cano position. Although he is certainly able to see the need, and even to agree that he might be the best for the position, I also see his objections to the methods used and the lack of warning that he received for his nomination. He has been training well, but he is walking into uncharted territory and having allies and truthful friends will be essential. I am glad that Glofindel will assist in his move, he is able to cut through a great deal of red tape. I look forward to the investiture and feel rather sorry for Finrod's elflings. Again they will be uprootedm, and this time from hard-won trust and cherished positions of responsibility. But they will persevere and I think they will become trusted companions in later days. Thanks for another wonderful chapter - I start to see an end game here, and I rather dread it because having any of your stories come to an end is tragic for me. - Erulisse (one L)

Author's reply

Hi Erulisse. Sador has reason to be upset, but at the same time he is a pragmatist and understands why his friends did what they did and why he is the best person for the job (at least at this time). The elflings, of course, have to return to their families, but they will take with them all that they have learned and Ingwe will see to it that their studies continue and they are allowed to follow their dreams. And all things, even this story, eventually come to an end, but just think of how much fun you've had in reading it and how much fun you will have in re-reading it, and how much you will look forward to my next story. *grin* Thanks for reading and reviewing.

Hel · 1 August 2010 · Chapter 143: Departure

Looks like Sador accepted his new position finaly. Though I can understand his reproaches agaist his brothers and friends. They took the easy way in nominating him and electing him in a way he couldn´t dispute and bringing him in a situation where a no was not possible. In my eyes it goes a bit against their protestations him being mature enough to rule as cano as they don´t think him being mature enought to be conviced by their arguements for his nomination which they shurely would have done if an older elf would have been in the place. I guess when the everyday live as Cano starts the good and peaceful feeling and behaviour of some people will have gone. He will need to be careful in selecting his staff from the mainland as in his acting being the Noldoran´s ward and in having help from Finrod or he will be accused of being the puppet of the Amanian elves. And he needs to be more diplomatic or a lot of people will use this against him as they will use his age and his inexperience in ruling against him. It´s good to see that Finrod´s elflings have gained something for their future from the year. It will be interesting to see how they will develope. I wonder why Manwe needs to speak to Earendil and Elwing so urgently.

Author's reply

Sador will do well enough, Hel. And he will learn as he goes, just as we all do, but he will have powerful friends, not only among the Amanians but also among the Tol Eresseans who will support him. And as for why Manwe needs to speak to Earendil and Elwing so urgently... well there is the small matter of the great cats attacking the settlement. I'm sure they would like to know how that turned out. *grin* Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.

Larner · 31 July 2010 · Chapter 143: Departure

Again, a nice transition chapter here. Sador will do well, and it sounds as if the troublemakers from Tol Eressea are all cooperating as of now. All is going reasonably well at the moment, and there is the investiture to look forward to in the spring.

Author's reply

Thanks, Larner. I'm glad you liked this chapter. I think the troublemakers have learned that making trouble doesn't solve anything and that they need to cooperate if they want to get anywhere. The investiture will be coming up soon. Thanks for reading and reviewing.

Larner · 31 July 2010 · Chapter 142: Sador

At least he now knows he is not alone.

Author's reply

And that's the important thing, isn't it?

ellie · 31 July 2010 · Chapter 143: Departure

This is a nice wrap up for the council. It is too bad that Earendil is so suspicious of Manwe and the Valar that he questions a summons to visit and discuss recent happenings in his homeland. For Ingwe it is all over, but those of Tirion and Alqualonde still have discussions to get through once they get home. They all must be exhausted!

Author's reply

Hi Ellie. I'm not sure that Earendil is suspicious so much as he is surprised by the summons, but given what has happened lately, perhaps he is a bit wary. For Ingwe, it is indeed over, but not for others. I imagine they are all exhausted and are looking forward to sleeping in their own beds again. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

6336 · 30 July 2010 · Chapter 143: Departure

Well thats everybody sorted and on their way home. I think Gladwhen suffers a little from Big Frog, Small Pond syndrom, she will still be able to influence the Council to some digree however. Meril looks to be a good choics. Yep, Glorfi is growing up, or as much as he ever will, that is! Huggs, Lynda

Author's reply

You are probably right about Galadhwen, Lynda. Some people prefer to be the Big Frog in the Small Pond then to be the little frog in the big pond. Meril will do well enough in that position. She is less concerned with image than Galadhwen is. Glorfi is indeed growing up, though he still has a way to go. And knowing Glorfi, I'm sure he'll still be letting out his inner child more readily than most millennia later. You know what they say: Once a Reborn, always a Reborn. *grin* Thanks for reading and reviewing. I really appreciate it.

Ellie · 30 July 2010 · Chapter 142: Sador

Finrod and the otohers just weren't listening to what sador was saying, were they? I loved the way Arafinwe handled things. I can think of no one better to have handled that situation. Poor Sador! At least he was starting to accept his fate there at the end and get his mind around some of the things he would need to do. Too bad Alassiel couldn't go with him!

Author's reply

No, I don't think they were, though they were doing their best. Still, Sador really needed the calm maturity and wisdom that only an atar can give and Arafinwe has that in spades. And yes, it is a pity Alassiel can't go with him at this time, but eventually she will join him on the island, I have no doubt. Thanks for reading and reviewing, Ellie. I appreciate it very much.

Tari · 28 July 2010 · Chapter 142: Sador

Arafinwë is just the medicine Sador needed to get over his initial shock. Now he can start down the road to being the person he was meant to be.

Author's reply

Very true, Tari. Thank you for your thoughts. I appreciate them very much.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 28 July 2010 · Chapter 142: Sador

Wise Arafinwe! But as my grandmother sometimes said, "Wisdom is the daughter of experience." I wonder what Arafinwe went through when ending up as Noldoran to be able to counsel Sador so well, but he's the perfect one to do it! After all, it's his fault Sador is Cano anyway, so...drat, I can't say he's being promoted, but let's just say someone took a leaf out of Finrod's book somewhere. *lol* Loved it! I do wonder how Alassiel's going to handle the separation... Tye-melin Atar Fiondil! Kaylee

Author's reply

Yes, Arafinwe is very wise, which is why he is the best person to help Sador through this time. When I finally post my Darkening story we'll see something of what Arafinwe experienced during that time that made him the wise king that he is here. And I'm sure Alassiel will endure the separation as well as Sador, which is to say, not very well at all. *grin* Thanks for reading and reviewing, Kaylee.

Sunny · 28 July 2010 · Chapter 142: Sador

Well, Sador really must be more mature than his otornor - as far as I can see he hasn't even contemplated running away from his appointment. Or perhaps it hasn't really sunk in yet? :-D

Author's reply

Sador didn't have as far to go towards maturity, but you are probably more correct than not, Sunny, that it just hasn't sunk in yet. He may do a bunk later, or at least try to. *grin*

Shemyaza · 28 July 2010 · Chapter 142: Sador

Well, as always, you show your mastery of the world and politics of Valinor, not to mention some in depth characterisations of some of the notables of Tolkien's canon along with some beautifully drawn original characters. You do bring these people to life. Your depictions of these are a like a breath of fresh air in amongst the sometimes cloying, even if well written, depictions of the bliss of Valinor - which evidently, as I suspected, is probably not as blissful as many would have us believe! Poor old Sador, what a task he's been given, but I have no doubt it will make a man...er...elf of him!

Author's reply

Hello Shemyaza. Thank you so much for this review. I am so glad you find my characters, both canon and OC, so believable and that you find them a breath of fresh air. It always seeemed to me that while Valinor might have been a place of bliss when Elrond and Galadriel finally got there, it would not have been so in earlier ages. Certainly what Melkor did (and then the Noldor) put pay to the idea that Valinor was always a paradise. Too much darkness had seeped into its soil. In fact, I always thought Varda raising the dome of protection after Melkor and the Noldor fled as a case of closing the barn door after the horses had already gotten out. *grin* Anyway,Sador will do well enough, I am sure. There's more to him than meets the eye, which is why the Valar were grooming him for the position. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I greatly appreciate it.

6336 · 27 July 2010 · Chapter 142: Sador

A not unexpected response to having the job of Cano thrust upon him. Sador must feel that everybody was deserting him. Trust Atto to help him with his doubts and insecurities but, he has made his first decision, two in fact in wanting Kortirion as his base and Rumillion and his cousins to come with him. Give him some time to get used to the idea and Sador will do well in his position and the Valar will always be there for him,no matter what! Lynda

Author's reply

Sador will do well enough. He just needed to vent a bit and get it all out of his system. He's much stronger than he seems at times. I have no fear for him in his new role.

Serinde · 26 July 2010 · Chapter 141: After the Council

So Sador was given one to one lessons from Nienna? It explains a lot. Now, the question is, what will Netilmírë say about Oromës poaching her apprentice. Námo could possibly pacify her by releasing her husband from Mandos (and for a good measure his friend Earnur too).

Author's reply

Well he had at least one lesson with Nienna and probably several others. We will learn what Netilmírë about all this soon enough. Thanks for reading and reviewing, Serinde. I appreciate it.

Tari · 21 July 2010 · Chapter 140: Eärendil Proposes, Manwë Disposes

Sador as Cano. What a marvelous idea (jumps for joy). He will be wonderful. I can hardly wait to see what happens next.

Author's reply

Glad you approve, Tari. I'm sure he'll be wonderful, too. Thanks for reviewing.

Hel · 20 July 2010 · Chapter 141: After the Council

Sador took it better than I thought. At least he didn´t try to run away or something similar stupid. But him feeling manipulated is understandable as is his comment about him, Glorfindel and Finrod. And in some aspects I think it is a bit true. I would´t wonder if some of the Tol Eresseans had as an ulteria motive to have a scapegoat if things go wrong when they voted for him. But hopefully with the help of his gwador and the Valar everything will turn out well. I guess from now on he will pester Namo not about the release of his family but when the first king will be released. This bit about Nienna teaching Sador is very interesting. I guess the memories will come when he needs them. The next chapters will be interesting when the first conflict arouse how things should be done.

Author's reply

Sador is more mature than some people think. As for being manipulated, he certainly has a right to think that, though it's not actually true, not in the case. The Valar have been very careful NOT to manipulate matters in this regard so that Sador's election would not be tainted, so to speak. You're probably right about Sador pestering Namo about when the first king will be released. *LOL* And the memories generally come when needed, and sometimes even when they are not. *grin* Glad you enjoyed this chapter. We'll see how things progress from here on out. Thanks for taking the time to read and review, Hel. I appreciate it very much.

Tari · 20 July 2010 · Chapter 139: Further Reflections

So, Eärendil found the person best qualified to be Cáno and Elwing agrees. Interesting. I can't wait to find out more about this person.

Author's reply

That will be revealed in the next chapter, Tari. Hope you agree with Eärendil and Elwing as who is best qualified to be Cáno. Thanks for reading and reviewing.

Erulisse (one L) · 19 July 2010 · Chapter 141: After the Council

Oh yes, things are indeed falling into place. But I certainly don't envy Sador his new position and I'm quite sure he will be delighted to pass the torch over to the appropriate King as soon as he possibly can and return to his studio. I think his pottery may become quite collectible now...Antiques Roadshow Valinor-style? Also loved the "Glorfi is bait and I'm your dupe? And Finrod. What is he, your favorite pet?" Glorfindel certainly often feels as if he is bait, at least to hear him tell it. Truly classic. - Erulisse (one L)

Author's reply

Hi Erulisse. Antiques Roadshow Valinor-style. *LOL* I'm sure Sador is already counting down the days when he can indeed pass the torch to some hapless king and go back to his studio, but in the meantime, he'll do well enough in his new job. Glad you liked the line about Glorfindel, etc. Sador is obviously taking a page from Glorfi's book on whining, isn't he? *grin* Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.

Larner · 19 July 2010 · Chapter 141: After the Council

I cannot fault Sador for his frustration. At least he has been able to let his resentment be fully expressed, and knows it is understood. Now to see him in action. And the time nears for Glorfindel to return to Middle Earth once more.

Author's reply

At least Sador has reason for his frustration. That he can express his resentment and know it is understood is a gift most of us rarely are given by our families or our friends. As for Glorfindel... soon is a relative term when it comes to elves. *grin* Thanks for reading and reviewing, Larner.

Larner · 19 July 2010 · Chapter 140: Eärendil Proposes, Manwë Disposes

Hooray! Oft, it is only among those who have no desire to rule or lead that the true leaders are found!

Author's reply

Very true, Larner, very true.
