Sounds like they have hammered the details out. Now they must only convice people to come to the council. The coming months should be interesting at the least. I wonder who will be the spokesman of the Reborn?
As for the Valar´s dream of the elves becoming one clan, a lot of elves would be extremly shocked at this idea.
That about the ball sounds interesting. Just imagine how many disasters can happen...
Author's reply
We'll see in the next few chapters who shows up and just what happens with the council. I'm sure there will be some unexpected surprises along the way. And whether many of the elves would be shocked by the idea of becoming one clan reamins to be seen. At any rate such a thing will not happen overnight but the Tol Eressëans are well on their way towards making it a reality whether they realize it or not. Thanks for reviewing, Hel. I appreciate it.

The study of genetics is very interesting. It was something I really enjoyed studing. Faramir should prove to be an apt student. They all handled being tested very well. Perhaps now they will be more comfortable in the presence of the Valar.
Author's reply
I always enjoyed studying it as well, and wish I could study it more. I'm sure Faramir will end up becoming a great geneticist. The Reborn don't seem to have a problem with the Valar but perhaps these will help show the others that there is nothing to fear from them.

Another excellent chapter! :)
I thought that the meeting with Lord Manwe was interesting, and I liked the way that Varda came up with for the decision making issue... Each group can bring whom they like, but will only have one voting member. Good idea. I wonder who among the Reborn will be blessed/cursed with being the vote bearer for their group? *grin*
I look forward to the next bit of the story, whether it be a continuation of the current thread or going back to see what Glorfindel is up to.
Well done!
Author's reply
Thanks, Rhyselle. We'll be sticking with the Council for a bit, but never fear, Glorfindel has not been forgotten and he still has a major role to play in this story. He is the catalyst around which everything else flows even when he is not physically present.

· Chapter 111: An Audience with the Valar
To allow everyone to attend the council, but only one per community to vote seems reasonable, though I can imagine the heated discussions nearly everywhere to decide who's allowed to vote ... Well, at least I think the Tol Eressëans are beginning to see that the Valar aren't going to lord it over them.
Arafinwë summed the problem about the various elven tribes up very well; and it's true they will have to work together and probably in the end melt together to a certain extent, even if it will take ages for that. This council will be interesting, no doubt.
Author's reply
Maybe they ended up drawing lots to see who would act as the representative. *grin*
It may indeed take some time for all the elves to think of themselves as one people instead of as belonging to this clan or that, but the Tol Eressëans will show them the way; they and the Reborn.

· Chapter 110: Findings
Now that was interesting. Had nearly forgotten about these incidents when Glorfindel was slipping his leash and that they never found out for sure how it happened. Considering that, it makes sense that the Valar try to find out if there is a genetical pattern causing that.
"Not a clue, except the fact that Glorfindel is odd, but we knew that anyway." *snicker* Now even I mere mortal know that!
Sador is right, examining Edrahil might be interesting, I would be interested to know if he's closer to Glorfindel than the other Reborn. Now you have made me quite curious what the outcome of these examinations will be.
"And notice, too, that in Ingwion’s case the length polymorphism is a microsatellite of three repeats while the others are minisatellites with a repeat of... hmmm... thirty." *blinks* Errr ... can I have that in English, please? Or even better, in German? O:-)
Anyway, it's nice of the Valar to offer Faramir to teach him more about genetics, as he's so obviously interested in it. That will go a long way to show the Tol Eressëans that the Valar mean well with them, I think.
Author's reply
I'm sure a lot of readers forgot about Glorfindel slipping his leash or that older elves like Ingwë had done something similar. Whether the Valar will ever reveal their findings to the rest of us remains to be seen, though.
'[C]an I have that in English, please? Or even better, in German?'
And now you have a taste of how Sador must have felt as he listened in on the conversation between the Valar and not having a clue as to what they were saying. *grin*

· Chapter 109: Visiting with Lord Námo
Methinks holding one day of the council in Námo's house should be the absolutely last resort; somehow I don't think the delegates would appreciate the reception the maze is causing. Save maybe they send only the troublemakers there to talk their objections out ;-) Though the room where they were led to sounds lovely.
Oh, there's a council of the Reborn on Tol Eressëa? That makes sense, I think; they can help each other better than others can, making sure the newly Reborn aren't left alone with their problems. It's a good idea, and I think Finrod and the kings might make use of them. They are thinking a bit more 'global' and less fixed on their own community than most of the Once-born, I believe.
Author's reply
I'm sure that Námo's suggestion was made in jest and none of the Valar take his suggestion seriously, but you never know with that one. He might decided certain elves need... er... remedial training. *grin*
The Reborn have a completely different outlook that is less parochial than those of the Once-born who still see things in terms of an individual's clan. The Reborn are less into clanship; having died puts an entirely different spin on the subject and 'Reborn' is the only affiliation that now makes any sense to them.

· Chapter 108: Arrival in Valmar
Have to agree with the Reborn; what they were and did in Beleriand is determining who they are, and they can't just leave that behind as if it never existed. I think that's a mistake on the side of the Lóriennildi to insist on them only living in and for Aman. They need both.
Oh well, it was only to be expected that these three would *not* return in time from their little visit to Námo. I would have been surprised if the Valar didn't use it for their own purpose. No wonder Arafinwë was a bit pissed off.
Author's reply
I think Finrod is slowly showing the Lóriennildi the error of their ways and making it easier for future Reborn as the deal with life in Lórien. Certainly, they have it easier than Finrod himself did!
We'll see in the next couple of chapters what the Valar want with our three Reborn.

· Chapter 107: Delegation
The discussion about the weather left me thinking the Valar must have held the winter in Valinor off this year so we got more than our share of it ;-)
Certainly, if I announce that Tavrobel will attend regardless then that will force Avallónë and Kortirion to send delegates, if only to make sure that Tavrobel does not lord it over them. Well reasoned, I think. They will be sulking, but they will come.
Hm, looks like the two most likely troublemakers, Galadhwen and Morcocáno, may be out of the picture for the moment. Or at least one can hope.
Anyway, I am glad these Tol Eressëans came over to the mainland to ask for the council and are trying to convince the others to come, too. And they took the idea of having the council in Valmar quite well, all things considered. Sador wanting to show the other Reborn Námo's garden left me grinning. Do I smell trouble here?
Author's reply
Whether Galadhwen and Morcocáno are out of the picture still remains to be seen. They both still have some clout left.
And with the Reborn there's always trouble. *grin*

And somehow I find the idea of the Valar doing research on these to be--well, not exactly ominous, but curious!
Author's reply
I'm sure the Tol Eressëans were shocked to hear the Elder King speaking Sindarin but it must havve also endeared him to them and helped them to see the Valar in a more positive light, which I'm sure was part of Manwë's plan. *grin*

Even if I don't review often, I'm reading all your stories. My favorite is still Glorfindel, I'm missing him.

Author's reply
Hi, Fanatasia. I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter. I deliberately did not put in any notes on what the Valar were discussing because I wanted the reader to have the same sense of confusion and frustration not understanding what was being said as the elves. Technically speaking, though, as Námo points out, the Reborn are not really clones, since that involves using physical genetic material, but rather they are copies brought forth from the elves' memory of themselves as physical beings.
Anyway, I'm glad you are still reading and enjoying my stories. Thanks for letting me know and, don't worry, we'll be seeing Glorfindel again soon enough.

Could it by Eru prerparing Elves for the Dagagor Dagorath?
Happy Easter,

Author's reply
You may very well be right about that Lynda. I never thought about it in those terms but we know Eru always takes the long view and of course the Valar had nothing to do with the creation of the Elves so they are as much a mystery to them as Mortals are. *grin*

I'm glad you like the idea of a Council of the Reborn. To tell you the truth, until it was mentioned, even I didn't know it existed. *LOL* Hopefully, when the Once-born become aware of this hidden council they will see that their existence could well be the saving of them all.

I'm sure I"ve commented about this before but have forgotten your response as it was a year or so or more ago. The labyrinth which those entering Namo's domain must traverse - woudl you say that it is a spiritual journey designedto celanse the spirit and perhaps the psyche like symbolic walkings of labyrinths today a a sort of mini spiritual journey?
Love the stones and their significance in healig and centered well being. cool.
Author's reply
The Reborn do have a unique slant on things and their experiences have forced them to recognize certain truths to which the Once-born remain blind.
In response to your question concerning the labyrinth, I confess that I love them and mazes. I've been in mazes, including the one in Hampton Court, but I've never had the privilege of walking any of those church labyrinths that have become so popular in certain spiritual circles. It is indeed a type of spiritual journey designed to not only cleanse the spirit and psyche but to still the mind, as Sador discovered. And I also have to confess that I borrowed the idea of Námo's labyrinth acting as a portal from Zelazny's 'Amber' series.
I'm glad you love the stones and their significance. I imagine the colors are quite pleasing to the eye in that particular combination as well.

Coming into the presence of the Vala is going to very traumatic for some of the elves, I’m sure. I wonder how many will faint. They’ll definitely be shaking in their shoes unnecessarily. The Vala only want to help them resolve their petty disagreements. They should be enjoying the honor bestowed upon them, instead of waiting for the shoes to fall.
Author's reply
No doubt you are correct, Tari. For most of the Tol Eressëans the Valar have only been rumors and not fact. They are about to meet the facts behind the rumors face-to-face and that will be daunting for many. Hopefully tha Amanians in their easy approach to the Valar and the Valar themselves will put them at their ease and they will see that they have nothing to be afraid of.

Hooo – conspiracies!! *rubs hands gleefully*
Actually, it makes sense that when the Reborn do not find understanding or support among friends and family, they will seek it elsewhere. And where better than among others who have experienced the same kind of things? And when they have started to come together and compare notes, they would soon have realized the one thing they had in common was that lack of understanding and support, even among those with otherwise loving families. And for those who were alone, it would have been even worse. So it might not have been long for enterprising Reborn ellyn and ellyth to start actively looking for those who might need a bit of help.
It seems to me that the Reborn has that one thing (being Reborn) that is likely to trump tribal affiliation, political allegiance, class and whatnot. So this Reborn Council that suddenly has popped up, while it is a surprise, it is not _surprising_, if you know what I mean.
I suspect that when certain members of the official councils of Tol Eressëa learn about the Reborn Council, they are going to keel over from apoplexy. Or they would have if elves did that sort of thing. ;-)
Author's reply
The Reborn do have a unique characteristic that the Once-born do not have, namely, they seem to identify themselves as Reborn first and then worry about tribal affliations, etc. later. This is one gift of the Reborn to the Once-born that is needed and they will most likely be a model for the rest of them. At least it is hoped that the Once-born will see the virtue of their outlook on life and imitate it.

Well the Council of the Re-born should get Galdwhen's knickers in a twist when she finds out about it! It makes sense though, self help groups always are more beneficial to those they serve, having been there and done that, they know where they are coming from and what the type of problems are.
Having the Council spread to Aman will be of help, maybe they can rework the treatment plans at Lorien and, finally, write a book on the Care and Feeding of the Re-born!
Hope the information Namo and the other Valar get from examining Sador and Company is of help to explain Glorfindel's psychic breaks.

· Chapter 105: Consultation with Manwë
I don’t feel particularily energetic this morning because of the clock change that occurred yesterday. “groan” Besides, I feel rather tired to start some pointless arguments, either with Ingwë or with Arafinwë on the topic of his daughter’s “punishment”. After all, he’s still her father and it’s only natural to be concerned for her. Anyway…I’d try to look at the fact that they have both acknowledged the Tol Eressëa problem and genuinely wish to make amends in behalf of all people living in Valinor. However, I’ve to say that Arafinwë asking Manwë to grant authority to those who will come to actually speak for their people seemed rather…odd to me. ‘grin” Should the Valar have the power to grant such request?
So, Morcocáno was actually an old acquaintance of both Arafinwë and Ingwë? Interesting. However, I’d like to know what did he do for earning himself a banishment to Formenos or, more to the point, what made him to draw his sword on another ellon and of course, what kind of part had the High King Ingwë played in this affair. “grin” All things considered, Morcocáno’s treatment of the people of Angobel isn’t something likely to endear him to many people, not even to me. It’s inexcusable to start treating people the way others treated you. At least, in my opinion. Well, it looks like once again, all the roads would take us back to the Darkening and your upcoming story?
As for the Valar..I’m desperately trying to see only what they did good in the past and what might do from now on. I still have some chapters to read and I look forward to do it.
Author's reply
The Valar are the highest authority in Arda, at least on the physical level. So it stands to reason that 'what they say, goes'. If they say that so-and-so has the authority to represent these particular people, then they do. I suspect taht the threat of such authority would be enough to make the recalcitrant toe the line. That is certainly the wish of Arafinwë and Ingwë. *grin*
We will come across Morcocáno in the Darkening story. He is a very minor walk-on character there but to try to explain just what happened to him here would not make any sense. You'll have to wait and see. *grin*
And hopefully you'll give the Valar an even break, as we say, or at least the benefit of the doubt that they are trying their best to do good. It's all any of us can really say about ourselves, after all.

This comment in combination with the a bit to empty street give me a bad feeling. I hope they did´t manage to go to the other dimension or something like that.
Arafinwe should have known the moment he told the three Reborn to be back in time for dinner that they wouldn´t be there punctually.
And I have somehow the impression that the whole incident was kind of planed by the Valar to meet some of the Tol Eresseans before the official meeting.
