That scene in the small Rohirrim hamlet was charming - and it makes Lothiriel very charming to me that she doesn't behave like the typical Gondorean Lady here. I'm very much looking forward to the next chapters!

no, she's not much like the typical Gondorian lady and will grow even less so ;-) Also we'll find out eventually just what Eomer said to those children. That's still to come, however.

Ooookay... this is my second or third attempt to get to this tale (after I enjoyed your other Éomer/Lothiriel-romances so much, as you well know). And this time I'll actually read it! *smiles* Wonderful beginning, and I like the fact that she has fine skills as a healer. And of course "your" Éomer is the portrayal I've come to like best - strong, a bit haughty and very, very male.. Hrm. Don't know how much I'll get done tonight, but I'll certainly continue tomorrow!

Author's reply
Dear Cuthalion,
wow, you've been busy reading and reviewing! I had to laugh at your poor, neglected laundry - I hope you managed to get it ironed in the end ;-)
It might take me a while to answer all your reviews (as it happens I've got a load of laundry to do as well, and I am in the middle of making jam) but I just wanted to let you know how pleased I am that you like my story. You are right that all my Eomers are similar in some respects. The main difference is that he's 'only' a Third Marshal at this point, which opens up interesting possibilities!

A delightful read! I was a thrilled fangirl all throughout starting from Eomer carrying her to bed and the detail about Felarof. Surely Eomer saw his old toy and hopefully drew the correct conclusions from what he saw--or at least probably help him sort out their misunderstanding. Ceolwen will still play a role, I think, as will Aragorn. Lothy's "first" meeting with Theoden was very telling of how Eomer still felt for her (but then we all know that). Eomer is still evidently jealous and is letting it cloud his judgement though I had to admire his self-control at this point. I just positively melted at their kissing scene. Go Lothy!!!
You've done a good job in making me feel the tension of the war, etc.
Author's reply
Hello Whitewave,
we will find out eventually what Eomer thought of seeing his old toy by her bedside, but not for a while. And when he found her in a pile of smelly, old blankets he probably just couldn't resist her ;-)
As for Eomer, even after their kiss, he's still conflicted about her, but her words might have started him thinking. He is having a hard time, because his heart and his mind do not agree!
And Lothiriel will have a hard time in the coming weeks, waiting for news from Gondor. More of that in the coming chapters.

Oh, what tension. There is some hope that ever-compassionate Heir of Elendil will talk some sense into Eomer. Or maybe there is no longer need in any friendly interference. Great story. A romance with lots of action and so few kisses!
Author's reply
Hello Phyloxena,
Aragorn probably has quite a good idea of things between them from just that one scene. However, as he doesn't know the background story, he probably won't interfere. But then it might not be necessary.
And I promise more kisses in the future!

oh! I love how you conveyed all the tension about the war, the little time and all of Lothiriel's emotions in this chapter, especially towards the end. It's all done very well. I wonder what Lothiriel is going to do while Eomer and others leave to and fight in Gondor... or are you nearing the end of this story? I do hope not. Thanks for writing!
Author's reply
Hello Alquawende,
Lothiriel will stay in Helm's Deep for the rest of the war, it being the safest place to be. And she'll have plenty to do with all the wounded left behind. However, I think the waiting will be hard on her (and everybody else of course). It must be horrible not knowing what is happening to those you love and any news from Gondor is many days old.
And I'm nowhere near the end of the story yet, my guess is that I'm only about 2/3 done.

I love the idea of Aragorn patching up the dog! Go, Heir of Elendil! I think Lothiriel is right about her Uncle Denethor though. Interesting times ahead.
So Eomer carried her to bed. I see Ceolwen is amused by the romance. But the scene on the balcony is not amusing at all. Rather it's painful and hot at the same time! Oddly, I found Eomer's dedication to duty almost as seductive as his kiss.
Author's reply
Hello Daw,
I had to chuckle myself at the picture of Aragorn patching up a dog. But then it's exactly the kind of thing he'd do, isn't it.
And Ceolwen is just amused by Lothiriel's attempts to appear nonchalant, I think. Somehow everybody around them seems to recognise clearly what Eomer works to hard to deny to himself.
Thanks for reviewing!

I just want to cry, but at least, they are in the right path. It will be interesting to see them when the war finish, they separation wasn't unfriendly, but there is many thing between them that need to be clarified. I wanted her to tell all the truth, but I liked her kissing him before anything else, she is getting bold.
I just want to see Gondor court when they’ll see Lothiriel with short hair. I supposed that Eomer can explain or she needs to star using a veil soon.
Eomer will come back as a good friend to Prince Imrahil and with his sister in love with Faramir, very involve with her family. I wonder when she will be able to join them, maybe when the Rohir are back to Gondor to bring Theoden. If that is the case, there will be enough time for them to sort out their problems.
Great chapter, it really shows what uncertain the future is during war periods and that you always need to make your feeling clear before separation, you never know if you will see a new day or your love ones again.
Waiting for more updates and thanks...
Author's reply
Hello Fantasia,
I thought Lothiriel deserved a kiss before he rides off to war. Like you said, the future is so uncertain that you have to grab whatever chance is presented to you. She was probably just as surprised at her action as Eomer!
But at the same time the Eomer on the Pelennor Fields does not really strike me like a man happily in love, so I did not think they'd have the time to resolve all their problems.
However, she will get the chance to explain her side of the story, but not for a little while yet. First we'll have the rest of the war to get through. And about her hair, Lothiriel will actually come up with quite an inventive explanation for it...

Hello Galimeril,
did I really have you shaking? Lol. And I'm feeling a little bit guilty for what I've put Lothiriel through, but at least this way she's found out that Eomer is not completely indifferent to her. It's rather a bumpy road these two are travelling.

You have this story flowing along so smoothly. I'm glad you're still writing for all us fans. Fantastic to see that Lotheriel can give a bit of her own back with Eomer ha ha. Can't wait to see where this goes next.
Always waiting patiently.

Author's reply
Hello Alatriel,
it's good to hear you're still following the story, and thanks for reviewing! Lothiriel is probably stronger than she realises herself and when her own temper is sparked, is quite capable of holding her own against Eomer. Which I think would be necessary in the woman he marries - I can't see him going for 'meek and mild' for a wife.

Hello Larner,
yes, to carry on when your lovely hair is gone - if Eomer had the least sense that would tell him that she's not a typical court lady ;-) But I think Imrahil would be rather surprised to see his daughter coping like this. I'm not sure he knows that side of her.

I enjoyed this chapter a lot! I'm glad that Lothiriel finally stood up to Eomer when he was so harsh with her in the cave. I know he was just scared that she would be hurt, but still... he can't treat her like that. Well, he can if he comes to his senses later! :) I'm glad that Ceolwen was able to speak to Lothiriel and give her some hope about Eomer and his feelings for her. Anyway, it was very nicely done and a most enjoyable chapter!
Author's reply
Hello Radbooks,
I think that deep down she still feels completely safe with him and knows he would never hurt her, so was able to stand up to him even though he was in one of his rages. I doubt that Master Herewald did as well! And she has a bit of a temper herself, although it's well controlled.
So now she knows that Eomer still has feelings for her, but will she get the opportunity to speak to him about him?

Yey what an update!!! I'm totally digging this and to think they're so far from reconciling!
Where to start? I think this is a pivotal chapter and will play a big "role" in future events. Eomer's reaction just shows how much he still cares for her and Lothy is understandably naive and blames herself too much--I find this endearing but Eomer must feel so soooo guilty!
Was Eomer the one who approached her by the lake when she was being sick? It sounded to me that he was hovering around her for a good while right after his outburst. I'm guessing too that Ceolwen will have a role to play too in the reconciliation?
Looking forward to more.
Author's reply
Hello Whitewave,
you are right that in a way this was a pivotal point, the nadir of their relationship, after which things will get (slowly) better. Lothiriel has been having a rough time, but at least she has found out that Eomer still cares for her, so in a way Ceolwen has already played her role in the reconciliation.
And it was him hovering around when she was sick. He must feel very guilty, but at the same time they've got such a tangle of hurt feelings and misunderstandings between them that it will be difficult to cut through to the truth!

Oh man, I love fierce Eomer. Can he come to my house?
Lothiriel comes across very realistically here, a mix of emotions and a youthful naivete joined with strength and courage. Ceolwen's analysis of her husband and Eomer is very perceptive. They do indeed like to be in control and are driven frantic when they're not. At least Wulf recognized who was in charge!
Author's reply
Hello Daw,
are you sure you want fierce Eomer to come round? ;-)
I see this Lothiriel much as you've described her. She's still very young at this time, 19 or 20, but some qualities are apparent at any age. And now she's been given a vital piece of information by Ceolwen. We'll see in the next chapter if she'll be able to act on it.

One thing I don't understand is why Imrahil would send Lothiriel to Rohan in the first place. Dol Amroth would be a far safer stronghold than almost anywhere in Rohan save the Hornburg.
Author's reply
Hello ecrm,
Lothiriel's father thinks he's sending her away from the threat of Sauron and the Corsairs. He does not know about Saruman at this stage. Also there are other motives involved, as will come out in the next chapters.

Great! A new chapter! God, but Eomer was really mad, but very, very mad...he treated Lothiriel as the worst woman in the world, and in front of his men. I like Aeffe disagreement with Eomer's treatment to Lothiriel. At least, she has made friends with Erkenbrand's family
You can see that he was indeed frightened, and no one will say at least Thanks to Lothiriel and that she is a very brave girl.
So, the healer felt Eomer's fury...good.
Like when she was crying all over Ceolwen and she can hear him swearing in the back, he must had been terrified for her...and he loves her, no doubt.
Looking for more updates...Thanks,
Author's reply
Hello Fantasia,
Eomer was indeed mad with Lothiriel. But I think it's a very natural reaction to get angry when you've been frightened by somebody you love. I've experienced this myself when my children did something dangerous and stupid.
Once he's calmed down he might realise how brave she was - although the cleverest thing would still have been to fetch him straight away. And hopefully he was able to work off some of his frustration on the healer ;-)

yahooo! an update! you are my hero! Another excellent, wonderful chapter. you are great! i really like the way you ended this one, good ruse and an excellent use of humor to deflect exactally how grim the situationt is. Ususally, people make the mistake of either making the battle unralistic or so too graphic... not that i mind graphic scenes ;) You masterfully avoided both pitfalls and made the scene a very satisfying read. Keep on writing, you have enormous talent!
Have a great week, god bless!

Hello Galimeril,
I didn't want to keep my readers hanging too long after all, so I tried to get this chapter done quickly. It's nice to have my efforts appreciated! The next one will take a little while longer though, I'm afraid, as real life caught up with me over the weekend.
And I wondered how graphic to make the fight (and the battle in general), but mainly I wanted to show Lothiriel's impression of it. She might have been too overwhelmed by her narrow escape to notice all the gory details. They will come to haunt her later, however. And somehow a little humour always creeps in ;-)

Oh gosh! I'm glad I checked SoA, I didn't get a story alert. This was another treat-of-a-chapter. Lothy is so brave and crazy and I wonder how she'll talk herself out of Eomer's anger. But at least they're talking and that matters a lot (sorry fangirl relapse here).
The scene where he saves her life is so romantic (I know it's a violent scene) but still it managed to reveal Eomer's "unguarded" self. Perhaps Eomer will realize how Lothy has the tendency to disregard her own welfare just to protect others. Hope this will contribute to their reconciliation (though the Ring War is far from over).
Author's reply
Hello Whitewave,
well, Lothiriel is still pretty dazed from all that has happened, so it won't be easy for her to face Eomer's anger. Especially as she doesn't realise (yet) just why he's so angry.
So in a way it's the first tiny step towards reconciliation and also for Eomer to see the truth about her, but they still have a very long way to go. Still, on the plus side it means the story is far from over ;-)

This is a great chapter, so full of tension...your Lothiriel is very brave and foolish, I should add. The fight was so well done, fast and confusing. Well at least she will rewarded as a heroine, she has just prevented the orcs to kill the women and children of the Deep, and she was brave, no one can't take that for her. Eomer, he was just great.
I supposed that this will help a little bit her relationship with Eomer, because there is no way that he can hide his worries for her, but it is no enough, right?
I was thinking that she will find out about Boromir death from Aragorn, I don't know how close are they in you story, but should be sad for her, that may be smooth things with Eomer too? She is going to be at odds with Eowyn as well, thanks that she has the twins and Celwyn(?)
It is very bad if Eomer has to go to Gondor thinking that she is false, they are literally going to the end of the world and with no love, that is cruel.
Thanks and update soon,
Fantasia
Author's reply
Hello Fantasia,
somehow all my Lothiriels end up quite spunky, but also foolish at times. But I don't think that Eomer appreciates at this moment that her wandering off in the caves actually brought them warning where they might have had none!
And Lothiriel doesn't understand yet just why he's so angry with her, although she will eventually. But you are right to think that this is not enough to have them make up before he leaves for Gondor. But then I thought that his behaviour on the Pelennor Fields was not that of a man happily in love, so it kind of fits in with this story.
As for the news of Boromir's death, it will make her sad, but they are in such trouble at the moment that she won't have a lot of time to think on it.
And I'll try to update soon, but real life keeps interfering!
