Larner · 30 May 2008 · Chapter 20: SECRET and SILENT: The Oathkeeper

Ah, a gift for Eonwe to help offset the evil; and only Namo fully appreciates what Eonwe must bear. Alas, for the grief to come. But a greater good will follow after!

Author's reply

There is always a balance between the two and even if Eõnwë is unaware of the fact that Námo knows and appreciates what he must bear, at least there is someone who can step in for Atar if necessary. I suspect that when the Rebellion came down Námo and Eõnwë had many long discussions about it all.

eiluj · 30 May 2008 · Chapter 20: SECRET and SILENT: The Oathkeeper

It's always interesting how you fill in the gaps between what little we have in the Sil (and elsewhere): If oaths are important, what does that imply? If Námo was silent, what did he know -- and when did he know it? *smiling at your decision to define "vice-gerent."* "shortly after Lord Námo had accepted the oaths of Lady Vairë until" -- I think a few words slipped away there.

Author's reply

Thanks for pointing out the missing word. I don't know how that happened or how I missed it. It's been put back in. I'm glad you enjoyed this little fic. If oaths are important, then what do you think that implies? A very good question, I think, for this day and age when people seem to think they can just renege on their promises without suffering any consequences. As for what Nßmod kenw and when did he know it... that would be telling, now wouldn't it. *grin* As for 'vice-gerent'.... I have had so many people question the validity of the word I decided to officially define it and show its legitimacy so people would stop bugging me about it. It never seems to occur to them that all they have to do is check an online dictionary on their own to see if it really is a word and what its meaning is.

You have to feel sympathy for him, Eonwe has a very difficult job as Oathkeeper. Some oaths must have made his very soul cringe to have to record, Feanor's for one, and some must have had him laughing inside as he did so! I won't say he enjoys his job, well maybe part of it, but he is a very conscientious (sp?) Maia! I like him!:<) More please, Lynda

Author's reply

Hi Lynda. Eõnwë is very consciencious in spite of some of the downside of the job. And at least he knows he has Atar with him at all times whatever oath he is recording. I'm glad you like him. He's one of my favorite Maia, too.

ellie · 30 May 2008 · Chapter 20: SECRET and SILENT: The Oathkeeper

This is just amazing. I pity Eonwe the burden of his office - especially as you described the horrible side of the job here with the oaths of the fallen. It is delightful to see how child-like Eonwe is despite his immeasurable eons of age. The inscription on the books are profound indeed. MOst enjoyable!

Author's reply

Thanks ellie. I'm glad you enjoyed this fic. Eõnwë has still retained that child-like sense of wonder and joy that all Atar's Children should have, though many of us "outgrow" it, unfortunately. And I'm happy to know that you found the inscriptions to be profound. It took me almost as long to come up with the inscriptions and translate them into Quenya as it did to write the fic itself. *grin*

Ces · 30 May 2008 · Chapter 20: SECRET and SILENT: The Oathkeeper

Eonwe does have a tough job, doesn't he? But he does it with grace and valor. But then, it does have its rewards; he gets to show his playful side when he pulls the book out of thin air. He gets to 'remind' certain elves of their oaths. And he makes us laugh when he does it! But to have to keep the black book too. That is a burden he must bear silently. Thankfully, he has Atar there beside him when he gets down. You must find a way to weave more of some of our favorite elves' 'forgotten' oaths and let Eonwe do some gentle reminding! Ces

Author's reply

Yes, Eõnwë does have a tough job, but luckily there are benefits and he exploits them to the hilt. *grin* Perhaps some day Eõnwë will let me get a peek at the Book and see if there are any stories there worth telling. *grin*

Kaylee · 30 May 2008 · Chapter 20: SECRET and SILENT: The Oathkeeper

*HUGS Eonwe* Ai, poor Eonwe, to have such a difficult job! I must admit I do not envy him his duty...though the thought of being able to appear with that Book and make Elves, such as...let's say, Glorfindel...squirm would be rather fun *wicked grin* (Though I think even Glorfi bested Eonwe once, did he not? He went too fast for Eonwe to keep up :D And I *still* want to know if Eonwe is espoused.) *Hugs Eonwe, again* I do not like that book with Melkor's oath in it. Bad, evil lying book. :( Poor Eonwe, again, I say...to have to write in that thing. It's a good thing Atar cleansed him from it. I wonder if the Yanassë Elenion would comfort Eonwe at all? ~Kaylee!!! *who loves these short tales, EI1, EI2, Wars of the Valar and everything.* P.S. Eonwe is one of my favorite Maiar, ever. (I'd love to see one of these pieces center around Manveru and Erunaro, though. I wonder if they got into any trouble for playing too hard with Glorfi?)

Author's reply

Eõnwë has a tough job but he's the Maia to do it and he does it with great grace and verve. I'm sure the Yanassë Elenion is one of his favorite places in which to meditate and find strength and renewal. Perhaps one day he tell me if he truly is espoused and to whom and perhaps Manveru and Erunáro will show up again in one of these fics. you never know. *grin* Thanks for reviewing, Kaylee.

obsidianj · 28 May 2008 · Chapter 19: BRIDGE: Pá Valaraucar ar Námier

I always wondered why Gandalf was so stupid to turn his back on the Balrog before it had disappeared. And that was actually the second time Gandalf turned his back too early on an opponent. The first time he did it with Saruman. I love your Lord Namo. He is always what his 'children' need at the time and he has a wicked sense of humor.

Author's reply

Even though in the book it doesn't specifically state that he turned away, it makes sense that he would at least begin to do so or turn his head to see how his companions are faring at this critical moment. I'm glad you like my Lord Namo. He is a character, isn't he? *grin* Thanks for reviewing.

obsidianj · 28 May 2008 · Chapter 18: FAULT: The Doctor Is In

LOL! I did a double take when I saw you throwing German into the mix. And having Sigmund Freud doing a psychoanalysis of all these crazy elves is funny. and now that he has latched on to Namo...

Author's reply

I'm glad you liked this. I'm sure you can tell I had a lot of fun with this. *grin*

Ellie · 21 May 2008 · Chapter 19: BRIDGE: Pá Valaraucar ar Námier

"...Olórin gave the Lord of Mandos a jaundiced look, though his eyes twinkled with veiled merriment. "I think, my Lord, that Prince Findaráto has been corrupting you while I’ve been away." "But only in a good way," Námo countered ..." Priceless. Just priceless...ROTFL!!!

Author's reply

Thanks, Ellie. I'm glad you enjoyed this.

Kitty · 21 May 2008 · Chapter 19: BRIDGE: Pá Valaraucar ar Námier

This was amusing as well as touching. On the one hand, it may indeed seem arrogant that Olórin thought the quest would fail without him. But it is certainly understandable that he wanted to finish his task, that he wanted to help his friends. Why do I get the feeling Námo did enjoy himself immensely here, particularly about the question of Olórin turning his back to the balrog? Poor Olórin, to be on the receiving end of Námo's humour. *ROFL* I wonder if Finrod knows how much he corrupted even the Valar? In case he'd ever write down his infamous book about 'Creative punishments ...', there would soon be many copies strewn about Valinor, up to even Manwë ;-)

Author's reply

Hey Kitty! I was re-reading some of my Tapestry stories and the reviews that went with them and realized I never responded to your review of this story. Mea culpa! Mea maxima culpa! Anyway, I think you're right that Námo was enjoying himself at Olórin's expense since he alredy knew that they were going to send him back to Middle-earth. Not sure if Finrod ever wrote his book about 'Creative punishments...' but if he did I bet it was a best seller! *grin* Sorry for not responding to this review in a timely manner.

Ces · 21 May 2008 · Chapter 19: BRIDGE: Pá Valaraucar ar Námier

That was utterly brilliant! I'm quite sure Námo must be tired of 'reassuring' everyone that they are dead or they wouldn't necessarily be in his presence! "In other words," Námo said gravely, "you wish to suffer the possibility of bodily death." "It seems only fair that we take the same risks as they do simply by being born as Incarnates," Olórin replied with a shrug. Yes, Gandalf, be careful what you wish for. Sometimes they come true! *snort* And then he gets promoted! I wonder if he will ask Atar for any qualifers to be put on his return - such as no more dying?! This chapter definitely got my morning off to a wonderful start - everyone should begin their day with a laugh and you have managed to do that more than once. Perhaps you should be required to do something like this for all your faithful readers every morning??? Ces

Author's reply

Hi, Ces. I'm glad this little fic got your morning started out right. *grin* But, please, I have enough trouble just getting something out every week never mind every day! *LOL* Anyway, thanks for reviewing. I really appreciate it when people tell me how brilliant I am. *polishes fingernails and whistles nonchalantly*

harrowcat · 21 May 2008 · Chapter 19: BRIDGE: Pá Valaraucar ar Námier

This is brilliant Fiondil and I enjoyed every word of it. So much so that I am now late getting ready for work! I don't think that I have read anything about this moment except for one, very funny, drabble.

Author's reply

Thanks, harrowcat. I'm pleased that you enjoyed every word. Sorry to make you late for work though. *grin*

Larner · 21 May 2008 · Chapter 19: BRIDGE: Pá Valaraucar ar Námier

I think this is my favorite of your stories here, Fiondil, although Freud is a close, close second. Heh!

Author's reply

I think this is my favorite of your stories here.... At least until the next favorite comes along, right, Larner? LOL I'm glad you enjoyed this one. Thanks for letting me know.

6336 · 20 May 2008 · Chapter 19: BRIDGE: Pá Valaraucar ar Námier

Well it's nice to know where Olorin went when he 'died' on Caradhras, he was a little aragant wasn't he!? By the way where did the Balrog go, for Judgement or straight into the Void to keep Melkor company? I think I am reading too much LOTR Fan Fic, I am starting to not need the translations at the end of the chapters, is this good or bad:<)! More please, Lynda

Author's reply

I have no idea where Balrogs go when the die, nor do I care, just so long as they don't show up in my closet! LOL That you are beginning not to need a translation of the Eldarin words is great. It shows that you are learning the language of the Elves without realizing that you are. Of course you cannot read too much LOTR fan fic, just so long as it's the right kind (like mine *grin*). Thanks for reviewing.

Beruthiels Cat · 20 May 2008 · Chapter 19: BRIDGE: Pá Valaraucar ar Námier

*Chortles* And the *punishment* fits the crime, lol...(I've been waiting a long time for that tag line to show up somwhere, *grin*) Cat

Author's reply

Well, punishments should always fit the crime, even Vorondil knows that much. LOL I'm sure Gandalf wasn't the only person to whom Námo was forced to say that line. I have no doubt that there were plenty of fëar in denial over the Ages.

Nieriel Raina · 20 May 2008 · Chapter 19: BRIDGE: Pá Valaraucar ar Námier

Hey, you finally got to use your sig in a story! *GRIN* And what a wonderful ficlet it is, too. I'm still laughing. NiRi

Author's reply

Hi NiRi. I'm glad you enjoyed this. Thanks for letting me know. Still working on the next two prompts but it'll be a while before I get them posted.

Kaylee · 20 May 2008 · Chapter 19: BRIDGE: Pá Valaraucar ar Námier

*drops onto the floor, gasping with helpless laughter* Ai...ai, meldonya!!!!!!! *laughing so hard she's crying* You did promise me...and there it is...Oh...*laughs* Now we know who that unidentified fea is that's been giving Namo grief. *snicker* "Surely, Lord, you will not make me relive my entire existence from the moment of my Emergence?" Oh! Oh, poor Olorin...*still laughing helplessly* And to be reminded that he was the one whose idea it was that the Istari could die. *shakes head* I knew he would regret that. I knew it. And I can't believe that, for all I know of the valaraucar being fallen Maiar, I never thought of Olorin facing a fallen brother when he faced the Balrog. How very odd of me not to realize it until now, lol. *winces* It would be even worse, of course, if the Maia was Olorin's brother in Atar's Thought...I know one of your other Maiar has a (future?) Balrog for a brother that way...*sniff* "Atar wants you to go back." "Excuse me?" *snort* Námo gave him a sympathetic look. "We know, which is why when you return to Endórë you will be the White, not Curumo. You will be the head of the Heren Istarion." Olórin started in surprise at that. "Me! But why, Lord?" Námo gave him a most wicked grin. "Why? Because you’ve been promoted, Olórin," the Vala replied with a laugh, "and I cannot think of a more suitable punishment for your folly." Olórin gave the Lord of Mandos a jaundiced look, though his eyes twinkled with veiled merriment. "I think, my Lord, that Prince Findaráto has been corrupting you while I’ve been away." *howls with laughter* Oh, no doubt! No doubt he has!!!!!! I can just imagine... Now...what happens when Irmo gets a hold of Olorin, meldonya? *innocent grin* ~KAYLEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *who is amazed as always by Fiondil's absolute BRILLIANCE*

Author's reply

Did I not warn you? *grin* I always keep my promises (or try to) and this prompt was too good not to use with Gandalf and the scene in Moria. Glad you liked it and that you think I'm brilliant. Thanks.

Ellie · 14 May 2008 · Chapter 18: FAULT: The Doctor Is In

ROTFL! LOved the ending of that one especially. Too funny! Love dear Siggy. Oh my!

Author's reply

Glad you liked this one, Ellie, especially the ending. *grin* Thanks for reviewing.

Ces · 14 May 2008 · Chapter 18: FAULT: The Doctor Is In

First of all a very Happy Belated Birthday! Second of all, I hope the earthquake didn't hit your area and that you are safe. Third, Námo and Dr. Freud - now THERE's a session I'd like to be a fly on the wall for! Then again, Dr. Freud and The Fellowship would be interesting too! He would never leave the Circles of Arda would he? You had me laughing from opening line to closing line. Siblings are never boring are they? Always trying to one up each other. I'm sure somewhere Atar is having a little laugh at Freud's session also. Ces

Author's reply

First, thanks for the birthday greetings. Second, the earthquake occurred 1200 miles to the west of where I am living and all is well with me. Thanks for your concern. Third, I wouldn't mind being a fly on the wall for that session either. I'm sure Atar is finding the whole thing quite amusing, which is probably why He suggested it in the first place. *grin* I'm glad you found this tale so amusing. Thanks for reviewing.

Lirulin · 13 May 2008 · Chapter 18: FAULT: The Doctor Is In

I just had to leave a review to tell you how much I loved this! I was laughing so hard and it was good to have the warning not to drink anything while reading it :) Just the thought of those seven in group therapy with Herr Freud is completely hilarious! And it's of course natural that one of them is diagnosed with an Oedipus complex, although he's still in denial about it... I wanted to point out one small thing, as one whose mother tongue is German. You would translate "elves" as "Elben". "Elfen" are those small things with the thin wings and "Elben" is used in Tolkien's writing. But that's probably just me being overly pedantic again. So, thanks for this extremely fun read, it was truly great.

Author's reply

Hi Lirulin. Thanks for letting me know how much you enjoyed this tale. And thanks for the language correction. I am not conversant in German and was depending on an online dictionary to help me. I will change "Elfen" to "Elben" immediately.

Larner · 13 May 2008 · Chapter 18: FAULT: The Doctor Is In

I may have had Frodo encountering Tiny Tim and the Little Match Girl, but this is wonderful--the brothers Feanor and Freud! And now the Herr Doktor would analyze Namo himself? Hehehehehehehehehehehehe! Excellent situation to examine!

Author's reply

Thanks, Larner. I'm glad you enjoyed this one. Freud analyzing the denizens of Mandos (including its warden!) was just too good an image not to explore even in this short little piece. LOL

Kaylee · 13 May 2008 · Chapter 18: FAULT: The Doctor Is In

Ai, meldonya! *shakes head at self* How did I miss the fact that you said it was your birthday!! I must have been way too wrapped up in my own problems (and the Feanorionnath's...lol) to notice your little note, until I read the other reviews today. *hangs head in shame* *hugs Fiondil* Happy belated Begetting Day to you from the *cough* Void *shares strawberry waffle made in the waffle maker from the continental breakfast place in the lobby (the lobby also has this computer)* *ponders, and sends her second waffle to Finda and Glorfi, but only half. The other half is for Namo and Vorondil* (I think they both deserve it for their trouble!) ANYWAY, lol, since this isn't an EI2 review but a Tapestry one...I ask you again, meldonya, how would the good doctor deal with my atto? Or perhaps...how would he deal with my Namo fascination? *grin* since he's already got Namo around? Oh, and 'Ros (Maedhros) has pretty hair. I like red. ^_^ ~Kaylee!!!! *hugs for happy birthday* PS: Bad earthquake, scaring all of us! Bet you anything it's Sauron's fault. *glares at him*

Author's reply

Well, it's still my birthday even here in China so your greetings are not as belated as you think. *grin* As for your questions concerning the good doctor... I'm afraid I cannot and will not answer them. Not my ball court anyway. I'm afraid you'll have to ask Dr. Freud yourself. *grin* And the earthquake did not affect the area where I live, so there's no need to worry on my account. BTW, I like red hair, too. *grin*

Beruthiels Cat · 13 May 2008 · Chapter 18: FAULT: The Doctor Is In

Oh, dear! (pictures Lord Námo on the couch, talking about the Feanorians and his own family)*grin* Now all we need is for Jung to show up...talk about a free-for-all! Happy Birthday! Cat

Author's reply

I have mental images of Námo on the couch too and saying, "And then when I was two billion years old Melkor...." LOL Don't even get me started on Jung! He'd have a field day with Námo's emblem of the Sun-in-Eclipse. Thanks for the birthday greetings.

Kitty · 13 May 2008 · Chapter 18: FAULT: The Doctor Is In

First of all: Happy Birthday! And thank you for this great birthday mathom! (And I hope you're okay after this earthquake in China!) I'd certainly never ever thought of *this* plot bunny! Freud having sessions with the Fëanorionnath! *ROFL* That is priceless! Though I can certainly understand why Námo has his doubts. At this rate, they will need decades, no, centuries, to get over their animosities, if they *ever* manage that. Nasty bunch, all of them. Somehow I wonder if our dear Dr. Freud hasn't taken more on his plate than he can manage. Oh, and that he then tried to use his theories on Námo ... *ROOOTFL* Btw, it was rather odd to see words in my own language in a LotR fanfic *grin* Do you understand German?

Author's reply

Thanks, Kitty. I'm fine. No earthquake where I live. The scene of Freud sitting around with the Fëanorionnath all in a circle just sort of came to me and it was too good not to do something about it. *grin* And having him try to psychoanalyze Námo was just too funny not to include. I'm sure the good doctor is having more fun than any human shoud be allowed to have. LOL I studied German at university for two semesters but I can't say I understand it. I know just enough to be able to go to online dictionaries and grammars so I could plug in the odd word or phrase into this story.

bookworm · 13 May 2008 · Chapter 18: FAULT: The Doctor Is In

*howls with laughter* That last line is just precious. Thankyou! That was a lovely end to a stressful day. One wonders exactly WHO is getting the most benefit out of these "sessions". XD Incidentally, I love all your other stories, and think I am crushing rather dramatically on your Finrod. *is sheepish* I'm just really bad at reviewing

Author's reply

Hi bookworm. Glad you liked this, especially the last line. *snicker* I'm glad it made your day. I'm delighted that you also like my other stories. Don't worry, I think just about all my readers are crushing on 'my' Finrod... and Glorfindel... and Beleg... and.... *grin* Thanks for reviewing.
