AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. The poor cat. What a weight he carries on his little shoulders. And Faramir in spite of his great loss tries to comfort the weeping cat. How terribly, terribly sad.
Author's reply
Sometimes when sadness is shared, things like still stroking the Cat are done without thought. But the real sharing comes in the tears.....

*grin* His uncle and hobbits! Just what Faramir needs right now!
I love the way Imrahil reassures Beregond--that was very well done! I'm really beginning to appreciate him more recently!
And Merry and Pippin are just what Faramir (and the Cat) need right now!
Author's reply
I just love Imrahil... you don't 'see' him too much for he is overshadowed by Denethor and then Aragorn... but if you read the chapter of the Battle of the Pelennor - the dear man is all over the place - and then afterwards taking care of the City as Aragorn prepares to launch THE battle. Great man indeed!
Merry and Pippin will definitely help the Cat as will the Cat - I can't wait till they 'learn' more of each other - but an event will soon happen that will tear them apart for a bit. At least one of them...........
Thanks for the review - Most appreciated. Hope you saw this was the 2nd chapter posted... there is one right before it that is new...

You did what you could do, more than any other did
Just like Frodo. I never thought of that analogy before.
Author's reply
*shivers* - they both faced fire and death - didn't they? I wonder if Beregond's was worse - in that he faced it in a place that should have been 'safe' and against folk who should have been 'friend and ally' instead of enemy! Indeed, Sauron's hand was IN Minas Tirith during these dark hours....
Thanks for reviewing.......

Well, of course, chatter! They're Hobbits, after all! Heh!

*giggles* I had a great time writing this one little bit... They were both put out at first and then rightly hysterical.... they are such dears! Poor Imrahil will never know....
Blessings and thanks for the review!

Oh, I love the kitty here! He wanted to help both, but then thinks he should have died with Denethor? Ah, poor thing!
Author's reply
Poor thing is right! Divided loyalties... questions as to the right course... how to leave one he loves alone in death... how to succor that one's son...
Good grief - the poor thing is right!
Thanks for reviewing, Larner.....

I love Beregond's loyalty here and Imrahil's devotion to Faramir.
Author's reply
Both really good men whom we really don't pay much attention to as they go about their duties.
The Cat however, is still miffed at Beregond for earlier remarks. Hopefully, they will be reconciled.....

· Chapter 21: Whispers
What harm can a cat do? Little does she know and the shock of finding out he can talk might be more than a little hard on her. I can picture the shocked look on her face as she flies down the hall, screaming.
I’m sitting here wondering what kind of a voice the cat would have. Would it be soft and sweet, childlike, or deep like a man?
Tari
Author's reply
I truly cannot see the Cat letting this woman know about his gift. I did, however, enjoy the sight that you put into my mind - poor thing screaming down the hall...
It's a whisper in the mind...

Well, dear Scribe, it seems that our kitty 'let the cat out of the bag' so's to speak. I don't blame him. His grief is not hidden from Faramir. I hope they can comfort one another. I am glad Pippin kept his silence when Ioreth was under the impression that our dear cat 'is harmless'. He is when he loves you.
Hugs for the Scribe. Neilia
Author's reply
Oh - I think it was pure shock that kept Pip from letting the cat out of the bag! He was most displeased that he had to leave and the Cat didn't!
*shivers* This Cat is definitely not harmless... as Gandalf saw! Cover your face.........
Thanks for the hugs. Always needed! One right back at you!

Oh, good, I was worried Ioreth was going to kick the cat out. I was glad she allowed him to stay. Pippin would be a good person to wake up to, I think.
Author's reply
It would be really nice to wake up to Pippin's sweet voice... Yes indeed.
Though many in the Citadel itself have a 'fear' of the Cat... Ioreth has been in the Houses and not aware of the Cat's reputation. Thankfully - for Faramir needs a familiar face and a good friend right about now.

Pippin’s voice reminded him of some delightful, childhood song, light and lilting
That's a lovely description.
Poor man, he already knows the worst, doesn't he?

I felt so sorry for Faramir here. No one could tell him and yet he knew. I also felt sorry for Pippin and Alqualondë because neither wanted to say.
(“What harm can a cat do?”) This made me smile. Ioreth must not have a cat. hehehe
Author's reply
This was not the kind of awakening that one would want. We never do find out who told Faramir.... so it seems plausible enough to me that the Cat was the one with the courage and the compassion to do it.
Ioreth only knows ratters... Nothing with the intelligence of our Cat.

All that tossing and turning. It’s a wonder he didn’t wake Faramir up. I’m curious to see what will happen when he meets Aragorn. That should be most interesting.
I like the idea of a friendship between Alqua and Pippin. I wonder how Merry will react to Pippin knowing a talking cat. I hope he doesn’t find out too soon. It would be quite a shock and I don’t think he’s strong enough for that as yet.
I so love reading your stories. You have such a creative mind.
Tari
Author's reply
Well, Tari, if you've ever had a cat, they can move gently, even whilst tossing and turning. However, they do so love to step on your chest. I think there is an evil streak in them. As little as they look, they can be quite heavy! :-)
Bless you for your kind words.

I've always imagined Boromir as a dog person too.Poor cat, I hope he will come to know and love Aragorn and learn some kings can be good.
Author's reply
I have watched cats having a great time teasing dogs. I'm sure Boromir was probably 'put out' by such behavior. But that only built friendship. *sobs*

Well, the return of Thorongil to Gondor does change things mightily, of course! Alqua wull understand eventually, and realize Faramir is delighted.
Author's reply
The Cat 'knows' that Thorongil is Elendil's heir presumptive. *shivers* Does he just let the man walk in and take over Gondor? Is this what Denethor would have wanted? He still is the dead man's friend... he'll want what Denethor wanted, I think.
Perhaps Faramir will be able to help him accept the king. So many questions.

Oh, this made me laugh out loud! Pippin rambling on as if everyone might know everyone that he knows. That was so very Pippin! I do think that poor Alqualondë was very patient with it all. Alqualondë has been through so much that needs sorting out and now has the extra task of sorting out what Pippin is saying.
I wonder if the fact that the King has come will be the final upset for Alqualondë or if it will turn out to be welcome news? More conflicting information to process. I think Pippin is right about one thing, Alqualondë could use a nap.
Author's reply
Pippin is certainly a trip when he feels comfortable. *giggles* What am I saying? He's a trip no matter what!
The bond growing between the two is such that, even disconcerted, the Cat will give the Hobbit his due.
For a moment, he rests. Thankfully.

LOL, at first I thought it was Aragorn giggling and almost choked on my dinner. Pippin and Alqualonde are getting on quite nicely. Even if it was a bit too much to hear about Boromir. Poor kitty. He's been through a lot.

Oh my goodness! Sorry - hope you have recovered. And an honest mistake. I probaly should have qualified that... but I just don't see Aragorn as a 'giggler' - ROTFL.....

I look forward to the meeting between Merry and the cat. And I also look forward to the future meeting of a King and the cat...

Alqualonde will find that hobbits are remarkably tough but I'm glad he is amused and cheered by Pippin's innocence.
Please tell our brave cat that I meant no disrespect in offering a virtual hug!
They are such dignified animals but we all need some comfort now and then.
I hope he soon realises that his suspicions are unfounded, and discovers that the hands of the King are the hands of a healer.
Author's reply
I can't wait till their relationship grows - which I very much hope it will - the Cat's and Pip's that is.... as for Aragorn - ah... the Cat is learned - he has sat at Faramir's knee now and then and listened to the tales of kings... we'll see....
Psst - the scribe would like you to know that the Cat was secretly pleased with the virtual hug. But he doesn't want anyone else to know!
