Fiondil · 2 May 2008 · Chapter 21: An Offer Made
So Faramir is to become Aragorn's esquire. That's a step in the right direction. The talk about who may have laid the spell on Faramir and Aragorn was chilling, especially the last bit about Sauron. I'm interested in seeing Indis' reaction to Aragorn's letter. *grin* One little linguistic quibble: “Especially since everyone in Minas Tirith speaks Quenya fluently.” It is doubtful that everyone in Gondor spoke Quenya, fluently or not. Sindarin was the official language of the land along with Westron. Only the loremasters and people like the Steward would be able to read or speak Quenya. Naturally, as the son of Denethor, Faramir would have been taught the language for the reasons he gives, but I would not say it was a language spoken by everyone in the city. It's unlikely that even Sindarin was spoken that much by the commoners. It was the language of government and lore and spoken by the nobles, something like French being the language of the Russian aristocracy during the time of the Tsars, while Russian itself was reserved for the serfs.
Author's reply
Oh my goodness gracious, Fiondil. I obviously did note write Elladan's sarcasm well.... he was being facetious. Sorry. Chilling indeed if it was Sauron.... Yikes!
Larner · 29 April 2008 · Chapter 20: Dilemma
"Grumble, grumble, brothers! Grumble grumble!" I can hear it now. And Faramir must learn not to ascribe evil to the Powers.
Author's reply
*giggles* - I do so like the twins! Ah... Faramir has much to learn, Larner, and that is why Elrohir sees the need for a mentor of Aragorn's stature to lead him... gently. Thanks so much for reviewing!

Will post again in a few days... Many thanks for the kind words! Blessings to you to!
Tari · 29 April 2008 · Chapter 20: Dilemma
Such a difficult time for a seven year old. Yet he seems to be handling it fairly well for such a young one. It didn’t take him long to get over his fear of the Elves. Elrohir’s gentleness certainly helped. Finding the right words to console someone in deep pain is not an easy task, yet Elrohir was up to it. I so love those Elves. Tari
Author's reply
Ah - who can fear the Elves overlong????? Elrohir was inspired - good grief, his heart was taken with Faramir, wasn't it. I wonder if Faramir reminded him of Estel when their little brother was about that age???? Thanks for the review!!!!
Raksha The Demon · 28 April 2008 · Chapter 20: Dilemma
It looks like Aragorn is about to take the seven-year-old Steward for a scouting trip in the orc-infested wilds of Ithilien; while Minas Tirith is unraveling at the child's apparent loss. I would think that India might have a few choice words for "Strider". I certainly hope Strider and the Peredhil get a message to her! At least, in the meantime, Faramir might have a great time learning woodcraft from his new friend. Update soon!
Author's reply
Timeline may seem out of skew, Raksha - it is only day two (I think) and they've both been through quite a bit... I'm sure (pretty sure) that Aragorn will get a message to Indis asap. Thanks for reading... I think Aragorn as Faramir's mentor will be awesome for both!!!
Fiondil · 28 April 2008 · Chapter 20: Dilemma
Elladan sat back on his haunches. “The Song of Power was done rightly. I think the power we unleashed was… incredible is the only word I can think to describe it. If the boy is not spell-free, then naught will free him.” He laughed aloud. “I think perhaps we did not contain it. I think we might have missed some words.” Elrohir chuckled quietly. “I think we missed something.” The chuckle grew into laughter. His shoulders shook. “I am not telling daernaneth what happened.” “I will tell her,” Elladan finally stopped laughing himself. “I need to know what words we missed. I wonder if she… Nay, all the Songs probably do what she wants of them. None would dare cross her!” Aragorn’s bright smile bespoke his love for Galadriel. “She never taught me the Songs.” “She loves us more,” Elrohir burst into laughter again... LOL. No, I can't imagine any Song of Power NOT doing what Galadriel wants of them. It would be interesting to find out just what they did wrong so it doesn't happen again. The discussion about Aragorn teaching Faramir was very interesting and the elves are probably correct. I do think though that someone should tell Indis that the boy is alive. It would be too cruel not to otherwise. Good chapter, and I'm glad that all that the three brothers got for their troubles was a blinding headache. It could've been a lot worse.
Author's reply
I really don't know if they will ever find out what went wrong, Fiondil. If you were Galadriel, would you really want them to attempt to show her what they did in order to find out what went wrong??? I think not! The Mallorns might have lost all their leaves in the aftermath!!! *grins wickedly* As for Aragorn - the man wouldn't leave Indis in such a state for long. As soon as he can hobble somewhere to leave a message, I'm sure (pretty sure) he will. Give the man some credit! :-) ROTFL - it could have been worse - they might have ended up in the tenth dimension with Glorfindel and Finrod (Elf II)!
Edlyn · 28 April 2008 · Chapter 20: Dilemma
What an excellent chapter. And of course, if Faramir saw Elladan and Elrohir lying there unconscious with their eyes open he would automatically assume they were dead. I think that Elrohir had a good idea in regards to Aragorn taking Faramir under his wing, so to speak (so long as someone gets a message to Minas Tirith to let Indis know that her nephew is alive, that is). The bit of humour your put in by way of the twins was nicely handled and then Faramir finally got a chance to express his grief, even though it was accompanied by some hard truths about the way the world works and his brother. I have the nicest mental image of Elrohir holding Faramir on his lap... I wish I could draw it. I'm looking forward to the next chapter. Did I tell you that this series is one of my favourite AUs? Well, if I didn't, I'm telling you now. It is. Hugs, Edlyn
Author's reply
Thanks ever so much, Edlyn *blushes furiously* I so wish you could draw that too - it would be a precious sight, wouldn't it for all Elrohir's gruffness. We'll see what Aragorn can figure out - it's a tough decision.
Tari · 16 April 2008 · Chapter 18: Rescued
So, Estel got Elrohir and Elladan in trouble did he. I never thought much about Estel’s childhood. I loved the idea of them getting into mischief even though I am sure Elrod did not. I wonder how he would have handled them. That was some spell they evoked. I hope it worked. Tari P.S. I'm going to post this reply on Prim's board and I will all others in the hope of encouraging more readers.
Author's reply
Ah - there are so many writers here, Tari, who really 'know' what Estel and the twins used to do during Estel's maturing process.... mine is a vague shadow of that. I bow to them. And I thank you ever so much for your comments - and the one on that other board...
Larner · 13 April 2008 · Chapter 19: Dubious Dispatches
Ah--the reason for the questions! Lovely! And this one was well named.
Raksha The Demon · 13 April 2008 · Chapter 19: Dubious Dispatches
No, Indis, stay away from Saruman! Somehow, though, I think she'll end up meeting him; if not in this story, then another. Looking forward to more.
Author's reply
It gave me chills when the missive came from Theoden! As Ciramir said - 'The old fool!' This obviously gets him into trouble later when he takes on little Wonmtongue as his counselor. Yes - I too think Indis will eventually come in contact with the Wizard of Orthanc! *shivers* Thanks so much for your comments!
Raksha The Demon · 13 April 2008 · Chapter 18: Rescued
That's what I call a real cliffhanger ending! I like the usage of a song-spell; very Tolkienesque. Let's hope none of the fellows got fried by the lightning, or this story will become even more AU...
Author's reply
It was reading Fiondil's work that reminded me of the Songs of Power - did a little research and felt Galadriel would know them - DUH! And she might very well have shared them with her grandsons... Thanks for reading and reviewing!
Larner · 9 April 2008 · Chapter 18: Rescued
Ah, a song of power has called the trees to react and the lightning to fall? Most interesting! Now to see what comes of it all! And glad to see the reinforcements arrive.
Author's reply
Poor Aragorn has yet the wit about him to see what a blessing his brothers' arrival is! And yest - the Song of Power is potent....
Fiondil · 8 April 2008 · Chapter 18: Rescued
Ah... so that's how you incorporated the Song of Power... cool and very appropriate that it would be Galadriel who would know it as well and teach her grandchildren. Loved it that Elrohir and Elladan are in this story. And Mithrandir wants to see Aragorn, huh? I can just imagine why given the time line. Great chapter. Let's hope the threesome haven't gotten fried trying to help poor Faramir.
Author's reply
Yup! Very glad you approved. I needed that! And I loved that it was Galadriel who taught them - it just seemed perfect. I wish I had your way with Songs of Power... to me it fell a little flat... but it knocked the three of them on their behinds, didn't it? ROTFLMAO
Edlyn · 8 April 2008 · Chapter 18: Rescued
Whoa! I did not expect that ending, meldenya! A most excellent chapter. Poor Aragorn and poor Faramir, they are both in a fix aren't they? I was never so glad to see Elladan and Elrohir show up (though it took me a bit to realise that was who they were before their names were actually mentioned). I hope that the Song worked and the spell on Faramir is broken, and that the results of the singing the Song on Aragorn and his brothers isn't damaging or long lasting. Great job! Edlyn
Author's reply
*blushes furiously* Thanks Edlyn! I wasn't expecting that either - and neither were the sons of Elrond, I can assure you! Else they might not have tried it. I had planned on the 'rescuer' being Gandalf - but the muse had other ideas... hence the 'mystery' of who it/they was/were. :-) Again - many thanks for the kind words!
Larner · 4 April 2008 · Chapter 17: Torture Revisited
Alas that they must grieve so! But he is in the best of hands, as is their future King. And their hope shall be restored.
Author's reply
We can perhaps hope that their hope shall be restored... One never knows when one is writing an AU............... Thanks for reading...
Fiondil · 2 April 2008 · Chapter 17: Torture Revisited
"The Valar have given up on men. We are lost." The darkness of despair... let us hope Aragorn brings Faramir back to Minas Tirith soon so that hope may be restored to the people of Gondor. The times will be dark enough with the coming War that none yet forsee.
Author's reply
Little does Ciramir know how truly lost Gondor is... as well as all Middle-earth, but that is about 28 years from now...
Raksha The Demon · 25 March 2008 · Chapter 16: Lessons For A Would-be Ranger
Aw; Faramir is trying very hard to be a brave little camper as he learns Ranger skills from Strider. I really, really hope that they don't run into any Orcs. Good chapter!
Author's reply
It would seem to cruel to have Orcs attack them... dearest Faramir, I think, would not be able to handle it at this time...
Fiondil · 22 March 2008 · Chapter 16: Lessons For A Would-be Ranger
This was a neat chapter Agape. It's fun to learn things like that. Next time I'm walking in the woods I'll have to try twisting two leaves together and keeping an eye on which side moss grows (I already knew that) and where the spider webs are (that was new for me). I'm glad to see these two bonding, the Ranger par excellence teaching the Ranger-to-be who was probably almost as good as Aragorn even without the added benefit of being trained by elves. Looking forward to seeing how this all turns out.
Author's reply
I'm very glad the muse decided Aragorn should spend at least some time teaching Faramir. Glad you enjoyed the little lesson! :-) Oh! And I certainly hope you don't get lost!!!!
Larner · 22 March 2008 · Chapter 16: Lessons For A Would-be Ranger
Fascinating! And the Ranger in the making learns from one taught by the best! Hurray!
Author's reply
I found it quite exciting when Aragorn insisted he be in this part of the serial! Glad it makes you happy.
SurgicalSteel · 22 March 2008 · Chapter 16: Lessons For A Would-be Ranger
Oh, very nicely done! Good to see these two bonding!
Author's reply
I hadn't planned on this - but the relationship is now started and it will grow. Glad you enjoyed it.
SurgicalSteel · 20 March 2008 · Chapter 15: The Search
I like Indis - I'm glad she's able to somehow sense that Faramir's still alive. Wonder what she'll find on her explorations?
Author's reply
Minas Tirith must have been a child's delight with SEVEN stories to explore. I think, as a girl, Indis was not given that opportunity. However, as Regent, she must delve into places that might not be good for her. Very glad you like Indis. I do too.
Larner · 20 March 2008 · Chapter 15: The Search
The palantir room, perhaps? That could grant her ease of heart, perhaps--and perhaps open her to fears unmentionable, should one of the two who hold its fellows become aware of her. One of those betrayed her brother and nephews, after all, and the other hopes to profit by whatever the white one plans. Ragnild is very wise.
Author's reply
It seems only plausible that she would 'stumble' upon that room. We'll see what choices she makes in this most difficult time of her life. Her world has crashed down upon her... will she use any means to save Faramir? I like Ragnhild too...
Tari · 12 March 2008 · Chapter 13: A Friend Indeed
This chapter was a pure delight to read. I should have known Aragorn was the healer rather than one of the elves. At first I thought it might be one of the twins. I love your version of Faramir.
Author's reply
That would have been fun too - who knows - maybe their around there too! Thanks, I'm truly enjoying writing Faramir - which I never quite thought possible.
Larner · 12 March 2008 · Chapter 14: A Trap
Oh dear--a steel trap? Poor Aragorn! Now, how quickly will he find that stout stick? There are, after all, reasons for not going far off the path!
Author's reply
What path, Larner??? This is poor Ithilien... beaten down by the Enemy and abused.... very little paths left, I should think. Aragorn's not going to be going anywhere too soon, unless Faramir can carry him! Ah poor Indis - sitting in Minas Tirith! And what idiot left a trap lying about - his mother's going to be angry!
