Lindelea · 6 December 2007 · Chapter 13: When You Are With Me

A touching scene. How much was lost to him, when she sailed to the West. (I am glad he came eventually to the West himself, to be reunited with her.)

Lindelea · 6 December 2007 · Chapter 11: The Burden of Kingship

(p.s. as you can see, I came back to re-read, to while away the wee hours while waiting for sleep)

Lindelea · 6 December 2007 · Chapter 11: The Burden of Kingship

Very nice, a scene I had not contemplated. I like these dwarves, solid as the stone they delve.

Larner · 22 October 2007 · Chapter 13: When You Are With Me

The son of the Mariner has chosen what was right for him, and has the proper helapmeet by his side. Lovely, Soledad.

Author's reply

Thank you. It means a great deal to me that I seem to have reached people with these little things, beyond those for whom they've been written.

Larner · 22 October 2007 · Chapter 12: The Last Ship

Reunions await.

Author's reply

Indeed. ;)

Larner · 22 October 2007 · Chapter 11: The Burden of Kingship

A lord worth the following, then. Alas for Thorin's death, and that of the two younger Dwarves as well.

Author's reply

True. Thorin could be a pompous *** sometimes, but deep in his heart, he was a good guy. And I always loved Fíli and Kíli a great deal. Such a shame that they had to die.

Larner · 22 October 2007 · Chapter 10: Recognition

How like Morgoth to institute his own form of kinstrife through the corruption of Elves into Orcs. Alas, and I am glad that this one was able to recognize the kinship and call to it as is right and proper, hopefully bringing a break in this one from Morgoth's power.

Author's reply

It's established in "Astonishment in Mirkwood" that the Avari took this kinfolk back home with them. These first and second generation Orcs weren't quite the same as their descendants in the later Ages, so - in my little corner of the Ardaverse, at least - they were able to live out their (now mortal) lives in some semblance of peace.

Larner · 22 October 2007 · Chapter 9: Rebirth

Those who fight Balrogs do seem to be sent back to continue the fight, and to offer counsel and guidance as others are able to receive them. Lovely.

Author's reply

That's what the poor Elf got for being a hero. I sometimes wonder if he ever regretted. Thanks for reading and commenting. The muse appreciates the fuel, so that she could work up enough energy for the next big step: the Advent Calendar.

Lindelea · 22 October 2007 · Chapter 11: The Burden of Kingship

Nicely done.

Author's reply

Thanks. :))

Lindelea · 18 October 2007 · Chapter 9: Rebirth

I have always found Glorfindel fascinating.

Author's reply

Yeah, me, too. :)

Larner · 17 October 2007 · Chapter 8: Memories of Harad

Those who torture in the name of mercy are so difficult to understand! But they do exist, and are so certain they are doing right!

Author's reply

Aren't they always? Haradrim are great to write, but I don't think I'd like to live among them.

Larner · 17 October 2007 · Chapter 7: Little Songbird

Very sweet as our Radagast fulfills one of his earliest responsibilities. Elves came to see so much grief, and so much joy as well. This one already knows the feelings of melancholy, although he's but a child? Nicely done.

Author's reply

Thanks. :) Radagast is such a loveable charcter - despite being a Maia in disguise, so very simple and down-to-Erth. As for Lindir's early grief, he has a recurring dream that frightens him a lot, as showed in "Wilwarin".

Larner · 17 October 2007 · Chapter 6: Heroes and Heartbreak

Interesting ponderings, and very likely ones.

Larner · 17 October 2007 · Chapter 5: Foresight

It is lovely ever to think of Halbarad having had a family. How wonderful and sad a farewell. Apparently some of the Dunedain foresight rests in his wife.

Author's reply

Halbarad rocks, doesn't he? I really ought to finish "Hope, Born in Darkness" one day.

Larner · 17 October 2007 · Chapter 4: Firstborn

Oh, so wonderful if Gimli had indeed married and left a child within Middle Earth!

Author's reply

And wouldn't it be a crying shame if his line didn't continue?

Larner · 17 October 2007 · Chapter 3: Farewells

So, I've given Legolas a brother, and you a sister. Poor ellyth! And the Sea Longing took her earlier than it did Legolas, at least. But this would indeed be a double grief to Thranduil, so close on the loss of his father and so many of their folk.

Author's reply

Actually, I gave Legolas three brothers and two sisters - not many of them remaned, though. And I thought it would be a bit unbelievable that nobody else would get the Sea-longing,

Larner · 17 October 2007 · Chapter 2: Dorwinion Red

And when they realize the Dwarves have escaped with the missing barrels, and the place is no longer being endlessly burgled by the same invisible hand? Heh! Glad he likes Galion so.

Author's reply

Galion is eminently likeable. But I think the Captain of the Guard can expect some thorough tongue-lashing. *g*

Larner · 17 October 2007 · Chapter 1: Come With Me

Ah, how wonderful, Soledad! I have this gift given Legolas and Gimli both from early on; but this would be marvelous as well. Yes, let them journey together one last time, Elf and Dwarf.

Author's reply

For me, theirs is the ultimate friendship. The most true one I've ever read in any fantasy book.

Lindelea · 14 October 2007 · Chapter 4: Firstborn

I hadn't thought of Gimli marrying and having children before he sailed to the West... somehow comforting to contemplate. And loved the strong grasp and beetle-black eyes! *g* (Forgot to notice if it was a boy or a girl. Will have to go back and read again to see if you said.)

Author's reply

Actually, there's currently a poll running on the Axe&Bow list what the gender of the baby should be... not that it would be very helpful, but at least it is fun. *g* As for Gimli's marriage, the wedding is showed in grand detail in my other story, "A Dwarven Yuletide". It's archived here, in case you're interested.

Lindelea · 14 October 2007 · Chapter 5: Foresight

Tender, sweet, a little sad as we know what they only suspect. I wonder just when it was that Halbarad knew with certainty that his death lay before him.

Author's reply

I wonder about it, too. As I have a soft spot for minor characters, I always loved Halbarad a great deal... even before Boz4PM gifted "Don't Panic!" upon us. :) I'm glad you liked the snippet, and thanks for taking the time to review.

Roheryn3019 · 13 October 2007 · Chapter 2: Dorwinion Red

This was a fun read. I especially liked the line where Silinde "ducked involuntarily". Well done.

Author's reply

Thank you. :)) I love Thranduil, but I didn't want to portray him too... fluffy.

Lindelea · 10 October 2007 · Chapter 1: Come With Me

Aw. I like this, the easy relationship between the two, the poignancy of Legolas' plight, and Gimli's calm acceptance of his fate (which rings very true to JRRT's writings). A nice expansion on a small mention in the original.

Author's reply

Thank you. :)) I find no other friendship on Middle-earth quite like the one between Legolas and Gimli.
