Sometimes it seems that the population of Middle-earth can be divided into two groups: those whom Budgielover has incited to kidnap Frodo Baggins, and those who haven’t -- yet -- given in to her blandishments to kidnap him. Poor Frodo: sopping wet and deprived of weskit, jacket, and cloak: not only kidnapped but very, very cold. Whatever it is that’s captured him, it seems to have eaten everything else that should have been in the water, so let’s hope the Men are quick!

Brilliant synopsis of my writing! *grins* And a brilliant synopsis of poor Frodo's present situation ... can't you just see the misery in those huge eyes of MovieFrodo? Honestly, why do we do this to him? (Answer: because it's wonderful fun!)

Larner · 9 July 2007 · Chapter 1: Chapter One

An excellent beginning. Let's find what took the Ringbearer!

Author's reply

Ah, Larner, I could argue that perhaps Frodo just slipped on the mud and fell ... but I don't think anyone would believe me! *grins*

a very, very captivating first chapter, i think i'm really going to enjoy this story! can't wait to read more!

Author's reply

Thank you, Elly! That's very kind of you. It's words of encouragement like yours that keep me going!

Woah what a nice discussion by an observant pair to be interupted by disaster. Don't keep us holding our breath along with Frodo for too long please!

Author's reply

Hullo, Harrowcat! *waves* Yes, Boromir and Aragorn were enjoying such a nice, quiet moment. A very short moment. Really, though, they should have known not to allow the Ring-bearer out into a dark and murky lake... heh heh heh

Good heavens, Budgie! You started off with a bang--what a cliffie! Where's *FRODO*?

Author's reply

I guess all those months when I couldn't write due to a previous committment caught up with me all of a sudden! No extended scene-setting to this story! The dialogue between the Men was originally much longer and more detailed, but I was so eager to get into the action (read, 'Get Frodo kidnapped!'). On to Chpt. 2 (soon)!

Andrea · 9 July 2007 · Chapter 1: Chapter One

Budgie's back! How wonderful :) I've waited for your stories, you know. And what a start! There's indeed something odd and eerie about this lake. It can not swallow Frodo without leaving a trace! Or can it? I don't think Frodo put on the Ring. That's the only other possibility that comes into my mind. I loved Boromir's observation of Frodo speaking to his cousins. And I noticed something else. If the person has a name that is originally short, like Frodo, just add his last name to put emphasis on it. Like old Gandalf did! He has learned a lot from *his* hobbits so far ;-) I'm looking forward to reading more!

Author's reply

Thank you, Andrea! And thank you for your observation on a hobbit's given name - you are right, of course. It is the little things like this that so fascinates me about LotRs - an endless universe filled with worlds of sub-contextual meaning. What a wonderful place!

Pearl Took · 9 July 2007 · Chapter 1: Chapter One

Whew! So much for a restful break! I loved Boromir's observations and Pippin's freezing feet reminded me of Billy Boyd. I look forward to more, Budgie! This is exciting!

Author's reply

Brilliant Pearl! I had that interview of Billy's in mind when writing that scene ... only you picked up on it. Thank you, and if you look closely enough, you will find a couple of more 'hidden' jokes of this sort coming up... :)

Nessa · 9 July 2007 · Chapter 1: Chapter One

ooooh, Budgielover! A clifhanger chapter....can't hardly wait for the next one. I have collected all your stories, and this one will be no exception. Thank you so much.

Author's reply

Hi Nessa! Thank you for your comment, and for telling me of your 'collection!' I am honored!

Idril Celebrindal · 9 July 2007 · Chapter 1: Chapter One

Budgielover! Oh my! I have a fear of water myself so this does not bode well for me! I was very tense reading this. More please... :-) Idril

Author's reply

Hello Indril! Thank you for your comment. You might find Chpt. 2 disturbing - I hope it does not upset you. Fear of water seems to be one of our universal nightmares - which is why it was incorporated into the story... :)
