· Chapter 10: Gandalf's Lament
What a wonderful description of that movie moment as Gandalf sits with his head and staff drooping, knowing Denethor has sent Faramir and his men probably to their deaths in Osgiliath.
Author's reply
I didn't like the way PJ depicted Faramir's charge. For I believe, from the book, that Denethor had always meant to send out help, knowing that the odds against them were so hideous. But he had to 'buy' time - he knew/hoped/wished the Rohirrim were coming and so, he sent the last of his very essence out to hold just a little longer until Theoden answered Gondor's call.
But - I absolutely adored that scene as the bell tolled. I would love to have a picture of it for my wall.
Thanks for reviewing!

· Chapter 10: Gandalf's Lament
This is as beautiful as the scene in the movie that inspired it. (right after Pippin sings, isn't it?) It is one of my favorite scenes in the whole movie. It is like and Old Masters painting.
MEWD!
Author's reply
Yes - I wonder if that is what PJ was going for... some kind of a Rembrandt type scene. It was powerful - and the bell ringing...
Thanks PT - glad you liked it!

· Chapter 12: By The Valar
This is moving, and true to Boromir. A fitting tribute to his passing.
Author's reply
Thank you. I hated that part in the book and I hated the movie - for it was such a cruel blow to such a 'valiant' man. And to the Fellowship. I understand why Tolkien did it, but the death was so difficul to accept. I'm glad it touched you.

· Chapter 8: Faramir's March - A Poem
This was such a dreadful scene and no wonder the world screamed NO. It was all so hopeless at that point and such a waste to risk one so brave and all who went with him.
Author's reply
Denethor reminds me so much of the generals of our wars. Sending company after company, platoon after platoon, and regiment after regiment out to battle - hoping that the 'greater good' was important enough to offer up the lives of their men.
As a mother, I would do the same if my children were in danger. Denethor's failing came from the fact that he put EVERYTHING ahead of his children, IMHO. But that is the way he was brought up, and the way the world revolved in his time. And the nature of the Evil that he faced.
And in the BOOK, he did plan and SEND a sortie out to 'rescue' them when they retreated, as he knew they would have to do. He was not stupid.

LOL I am on my way to bed for the night but the title of this one pulled me in! I am thinking of putting this one on my Christmas Carrol list for this year! Thanks for the good laugh right before bedtime. Night!
Author's reply
LOL - glad it put a smile on your face - nice to go to bed in a good mood. I've got a couple more 'Yule/Christmas' songs/poems - but I'll wait till it's nearer the season... Perhaps I'll write a Carolling book! LOL

Poor Frodo, to see the Ring working on him at that moment in the movie was pretty heartbreaking.
Author's reply
It was a terrible time, wasn't it? Thinking all his friends and companions had turned against him.... my heart broke for him. I'm glad that PJ had Boromir give him a word of encouragement.

· Chapter 8: Faramir's March - A Poem
Yes, a wonderful look at that movie moment.
Author's reply
Though I never believed the ride of Faramir was a suicide ride as PJ depicted in the film, the sight of these warriors going out with such courage, knowing many would not return, is inspiring....

To a litle brother - no matter how old - his elder brother can be a 'god' and I somehow feel that's the way Faramir felt of Boromir - and yet also the other way around....

· Chapter 4: The Touch of Grief - A Poem
This is a wonderful expression of the grief Faramir and Denethor must have felt as they held the cloven horn in their hands, realizing Boromir was indeed dead and would not return.
Author's reply
I cannot even imagine the pain - that Horn was revered by all of Gondor - to hold it, broken, would have been as sacrilege. BUT to know why it was broken and the consequences of that... too horrible to imagine.

· Chapter 3: My Immortal - A Poem
And grief comes even to the immortals. Death and loss are common to all, unfortunately. "Death is but another road, one we all must take."
Author's reply
I should have given some kind of prologue to this... for it was about Boromir, Faramir's immortal... for do we not think that those we love can never be hurt, never die?

The other song brought back memories of a happy childhood reading the Childcraft poetry book with my mother; and this of watching westerns on TV and Donkey on the back of the onion carriage.
The Rohirrim and Rawhide. Oh, DEAR!
Thanks for the giggles.

Silly mood - definitely. I could just see those guys riding their horses across the plains of Rohan - singing mightily, a stirring song to get the blood warmed! ROTFL

Glad you giggled over this. I have no idea how such a dreadful happening could be portrayed so ridiculously - but there you have it. The Muse can be a twit at times! I'm sure you understand.
