Queen Galadriel · 31 October 2007 · Chapter 2: Late - A Drabble (young Denethor)

Oh, yes, those *lovely* nightmares that leave us certain we’re late for something, have done something wrong, or have totally embarrassed ourselves…poor Denethor.

Queen Galadriel · 31 October 2007 · Chapter 1: Dead - A Drabble (Pippin)

Ah, I always wondered what happened when Pippin dropped that stone down the well!

Larner · 12 October 2007 · Chapter 51: Dinledhwen - Two Tribbles (Legolas/OC)

The innocence of friendship between ellon and elleth. Surprise greetings, startlements, and flowers--and Thranduil.

Author's reply

Thanks, Larner. My buddy was upset that it didn't go further... but with Thranduil as your father, you better step lightly! *thinks of the Caradhras scene in the movie and ROTL!* Sorry - pun intended!

Larner · 12 October 2007 · Chapter 50: The Valar Guild (Boromir/Faramir/OC)

The sons of Finduilas argue, perhaps to break the tension of knowing their mother is not well. And Faramir here is very young indeed. But he does wish for there to be Elves and Valar, while pragmatic Boromir doubts them. Sad, Agape; but so true to childhood.

Author's reply

I like the word pragmatic, Larner. First, I think Boromir, being older, would be a little more prone to the practical side of life now. *giggles* But also because I think he is at the age where anything his father would say must be true. Which poses the cunundrum for Faramir. His father and his brother say there are no Elves.... but for almost five-year old Faramir, his mother says there are Elves.... who is he to believe??? And with mom sick and unable to ask.... Sad - what a childhood those two poor children had... whether Denethor was kind of 'fanfic' nasty or busy with the affairs of state or just plain daddy - it was still a difficult life in the midst of sorrow and war...

Larner · 12 October 2007 · Chapter 49: Too Late, It Seems - A Thousand Word Moment (Legolas/Gimli)

At least they were wrong about Aragorn's condition, but they did arrive too late for Boromir's safety. An unlikely friendship, but a blessed one. And good to see Gimli not only fighting back to back with Legolas but gathering arrows for him as the living orcs streak away.

Author's reply

I've decided I really like writing Gimli - I've got him in another story I'm in the midst of - first time writing him - and he is such fun. Not as the comic relief - but just because he's stalwart and wonderful and so very different from humans and elves! Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the comments.

PipMer · 10 October 2007 · Chapter 47: A Lesson Learned - A Thousand Words Moment (Boromir/The Fellowship)

This was funny! I can just see Merry and Pippin driving Boromir crazy by doing this. Not only did they have fun, but they taught everyone an important lesson as well. Well done!

Author's reply

Oh good grief. I had such fun writing it too. After one gets to 'know' Merry and Pippin, this scenario doesn't seem too out of the realm of happening. PS - I know the cloak probably didn't hide them from each other - but it was such fun to 'suppose' it did. Thanks for commenting!

Katherine-The-Crowned · 9 October 2007 · Chapter 1: Dead - A Drabble (Pippin)

Haha, i like this one. Never thought about what was happening on the other end of the well. Nice one!

Author's reply

Thanks, Katherine-The-Crowned! I didn't 'see' this scenario the first time I saw the movie, but soon after. And just giggled my head off until I had to put the thought down on paper. Very glad you liked it and thanks ever so much for the comment!

Pearl Took · 1 October 2007 · Chapter 48: Summoned - A Quintdrabble (Faramir)

ooo! shivers! That is beautiful but dark in a way. I really like it. I can truly see them both having such a love of their respective places.

Author's reply

It was a very sad thing for Faramir to remember. I truly believe he loved Ithilien; it spoke to his 'artistic' side. That is one thing that makes us truly wonderful creatures, when we put aside our own feelings, we can rejoice in the choices of others. Faramir understood his brother's love for the city and Boromir understood Faramir's love for the land. For him to 'receive' it as Prince was a profound move by Aragorn. Yet, bittersweet.

Pearl Took · 1 October 2007 · Chapter 47: A Lesson Learned - A Thousand Words Moment (Boromir/The Fellowship)

I've also read this elsewhere and was glad to read it again! Wonderful!

Author's reply

*giggles* I thought I might have posted it to HASA - but I hadn't - so I did... LOL Thanks!

Pearl Took · 1 October 2007 · Chapter 46: Lords of the Dance - A Quintdrabble (Boromir/Faramir/Denethor)

Good but I would have liked a wee bit more, it ends too abruptly. You describe the energy of the event wonderfully!!

Author's reply

Oh Pearl - it ended too quickly for the brothers, too! I think, even if Denethor had not interrupted, they would not have begun again. Perhaps they would have egged on another of their comrads. Glad you enjoyed the energy - I got up and danced after writing it. NOT! Thanks ever so much for reviewing!

Larner · 1 October 2007 · Chapter 48: Summoned - A Quintdrabble (Faramir)

Anticipation for the healing to come, that is so much needed by all. A beautiful ficlet, seeing how much Faramir already loves this land.

Author's reply

Thanks bunches, Larner. I've always had troubles understanding Faramir - his loyalty to Boromir was questioned. A buddy and I spent many conversations speaking of this and trying to figure it out... finally, we came up with a solution that eased our minds. And so now, I think I can write Faramir without worrying too much. Though I have not the status of other 'Faramir' writers, I, at least, feel comfortable with the man. And that is a good thing.

Larner · 1 October 2007 · Chapter 47: A Lesson Learned - A Thousand Words Moment (Boromir/The Fellowship)

I think I've read this one before, elsewhere, and I enjoyed it as much this time as before. Yes, let's try out this camouflage we've been granted! Heh!

Author's reply

Thanks bunches for reviewing even after you read it. Probably at the HA Yahoo group.

Larner · 1 October 2007 · Chapter 46: Lords of the Dance - A Quintdrabble (Boromir/Faramir/Denethor)

Oh, Denethor, don't push competition where it's been given over! A wonderful, delightful incident to contemplate, the brothers Hurin dancing together! Heh!

Author's reply

I so loved this scene. In the midst of the horror that is Gondor in these days, it is a blessing to take a moment to rejoice in life. Denethor learned competition, I think, while Thorongil was living at Minas Tirith. You can't blame the man.

Mairi · 15 September 2007 · Chapter 45: Boromir's Birthday - A Quintdrabble

I loved these last few drabbles, or quintdrabbles, or whatever, particularly the one about Arwen. To answer your question, Galadriel is my favorite character, by just a little bit. Rather hard to choose, after all.

Author's reply

Oh! I have a difficult time with Galadriel... the kinslaying and all. But she is a powerful Elf. As for the Arwen drabble - I was frustrated about some real life situation where I was not 'allowed' to help - and Arwen decided to share her little experience! Thanks for commenting. Glad you are enjoying reading.

Larner · 10 September 2007 · Chapter 37: Gimli's Grief - A Tribble (Boromir/Gimli)

I must assume that since it is Gimli who was being comforted somehow this was part of the growing relationship between him and Legolas. Now that I've reread it, I see indeed this is written from Boromir's perspective. I am obtuse at times, I admit. Yes, that talk of the glory of Gondor ought to have given me the clue. Come on, Larner--not EVERYTHING to do with Gimli involves that Elf! Heh!

Grey Wonderer · 10 September 2007 · Chapter 43: Rescue Unwanted (movie verse) - A Drabble (Gimli/Legolas)

I enjoy movie verse and this was very good. You don't know whether to laugh or yell as Legolas does have his hands full here. LOL

Author's reply

Legolas definitely had his hands full. Even given the famous Elven 'strength' - the Dwarves seemed carved from stone and this stone definitely could not be moved against his will by only one Elf. I thoroughly enjoyed writing this. Thanks for the response. Glad it brought a smile to you!

Grey Wonderer · 10 September 2007 · Chapter 37: Gimli's Grief - A Tribble (Boromir/Gimli)

I like that very much. I like Boromir's respect for Gimli and how he explains it all. Lovely.

Author's reply

Thank you. I think every member of the Fellowship (except the Hobbits) had to come to terms with each other, decide to accept each other. Glad that Boromir and Gimli found their respect early in the game. And thank you so much for responding!

grumpy · 9 September 2007 · Chapter 42: Behind Enemy Lines - A Drabble (Aragorn)

At last a friend, never can have enough of them, and to find one in the wild is even better.

Author's reply

To find one in the wild when one is alone is even better! Thanks for replying!

Calenlass Greenleaf · 9 September 2007 · Chapter 45: Boromir's Birthday - A Quintdrabble

There a such things quintdrabbles? :) I think they are a lot easier to write than drabbles! I find myself growing increasingly fond of Denethor's sons. This one only fueled the interest. It was an interesting read. Calenlass

Author's reply

Oh Calenlass Greenleaf - Beware - once one starts growing fond of Denethor's sons, one can be drawn into love.... As for quintdrabbles - who knows? It was five hundred words so I made it up. Perhaps I should have used a Sindarin word instead? LOL Glad this interested you and thanks for responding. Again - beware the boys of Gondor!

Larner · 9 September 2007 · Chapter 45: Boromir's Birthday - A Quintdrabble

At least they do spend that last evening together, and the family is at peace. And Denethor did think of this, whether or not he might have needed to be reminded. And now Boromir himself is reminded just what day this is! Heh!

Author's reply

In the midst of preparations for a long journey, lots of things can be forgotten. It was probably Faramir who reminded Denethor of what this date meant... then again, Denethor himself might have remembered - for Tolkien definitely states the great love Denethor had for his eldest. I'm glad Boromir will have some fun and fond memories to carry with him - he will need them.

Larner · 9 September 2007 · Chapter 44: The Portrait - A Double Drabble (Boromir/Faramir)

Perhaps Ecthelion, or Finduilas, or one of his sisters, or even his mother! I don't mind not knowing, either.

Author's reply

Hi, Larner. Ah - I had not thought of Ecthelion - but I like that idea. I love giving my readers a chance to put their own thoughts into this. I don't usually do that... but who was not as important as the thought of doing it. As for Denethor - hmmm - I wonder who he would want...

Larner · 9 September 2007 · Chapter 43: Rescue Unwanted (movie verse) - A Drabble (Gimli/Legolas)

Oh, definitely movie-verse! And so definitely in keeping with this most unlikely of brotherhoods!

Author's reply

Thanks, Larner. I had a delightful time writing this. The Dwarf is so unmindful of his own danger and someone had to save him. But he did go unwillingly! LOL And Legolas definitely had to have some help bearing the Dwarf away!!!

Pearl Took · 9 September 2007 · Chapter 45: Boromir's Birthday - A Quintdrabble

Ah, your cheerful Denethor shines forth :-) This was funny :-)

Author's reply

Thanks, PT... A terrible day turned into one of joy... fond memories to carry Boromir through the next tense months! Glad it brought a smile to your face!

Pearl Took · 9 September 2007 · Chapter 44: The Portrait - A Double Drabble (Boromir/Faramir)

I would have it be their mother and he was looking for an artist whom the subjects of his portraits would show he would have know their mother. Beautiful . . . and I like that you left it open, even though that usually drives me nuts.

Author's reply

I felt the little piece of paper he carried was an old portrait that he wanted to have redone in a large format. Perhaps 11x14. LOL And I definitely think it would be there mother, but who knows... and I know what you mean about an ambiguous ending driving one nuts - but I think this one isn't quite the same. Glad you enjoyed it enough to respond! Thank you.

Pearl Took · 9 September 2007 · Chapter 43: Rescue Unwanted (movie verse) - A Drabble (Gimli/Legolas)

No one Elf could wrestle this Son of Aulë. ‘No Elf would want to!’ I thought miserably. ‘I have changed – for the better?’ Oh yes, Legolas, very much for the better! Wonderful!!

Author's reply

Thanks, PT - I especially liked this moment. Sealed their friendship, I think. Even with the interminable counting game... still - someone had to save the Dwarf! LOL
