· Chapter 6: F: Like a Fearful Faramir
Faramir in dark blue velvet would be a sight to behold - very appealing. Lucky Eowyn! I bet there will be a few other Eorling women looking at him too!
I love Pippin's cheerful helpfulness. Faramir has never had sisters, so having someone around with knowledge of feminine priorities would be good for him.
Author's reply
Yes, I imagine he looks quite--fetching--in it! *grin* And I would guess Eowyn won't mind them *looking", LOL!
Pippin is rather reveling in it! This is one thing he does know better than either of his older cousins, just from the virtue of having sisters. And it would be fun for him to reassure his larger friend that he does know what he's talking about!

· Chapter 8: H: Like a Hale Halbarad
Rover - what a great pseudonym for Halbarad. Though I'm surprised that no one asks if he and Strider are littermates...
Lovely vignette; I felt sorry for Rover and Strider not being able to stay and have a good home-cooked meal. And I liked Mr. Mugwort.
Author's reply
*giggle* I had a time coming up with something! But you are right, they *do* sort of sound like puppy names, LOL!
I'm glad you liked it. I like to think that there must have been some residents of Bree who were able to sometimes see past the "seeming foul" part of the Rangers' facade.

· Chapter 6: F: Like a Fearful Faramir
*giggle* Trust Pippin to know what's what when it comes to lasses. He should know all about accessorizing and color-coordinating, being raised with three sisters. Sam would too, but I think Pippin has a bit of an edge over Sam here, since the Took lasses would have more means of making new gowns and dresses as the need arised - which leads to many, many discussions on how to be making them - while Sam's sisters would be more reliant on the same garb or loans from friends. And I adore that Sam bet two coppers! And Merry's brief scowl at losing *ten*! That should teach him for not listening to Pippin!
Author's reply
Yes, I agree. Sam's sisters would have had their own concerns about their appearance, but would not have been all concerned with the "color-coordinating" that the more well-to-do lasses would. They'd have to consider practicality first.
But I see Great Smials as being the sort of place where clothes would have pretty much been a hot topic among most of the lasses who lived there--and Pippin's sisters would probably have led the pack!
I thought it might be funny if Sam had bet, too! Of course Merry should have known not to bet against Pippin on a thing like that--but he does like to wager. And Frodo does not approve, LOL!

· Chapter 5: E: Like an Evil Elrond
What a fascinating connection you have made! I think Aragorn has the right of it. Frodo will never know it was Elrond he last saw, and will simply think it was part of his dream.
Author's reply
Yes, I do think Aragorn would have been right about that; still, I'm sure it distressed poor Elrond anyway.

· Chapter 4: D: Like a Dirty Dragon
Poor Frodo. All he can see is the damage and the scars, not the untouched structure, its frame still strong and its supports still intact. I love that Sam tries to reassure him, even though he knows it won't help. So like our Sam.
Author's reply
Exactly!
I think in those early days, especially, Sam must have gotten into the habit of automatically trying to reassure Frodo that things weren't his fault. I'm quite sure that everywhere he looked Frodo kept seeing signs of his so-called "failure". Poor Sam was not about to let that pass, little good though it would do.

· Chapter 3: C: Like Certain Circumstances in the Citadel
It was fun to have this little moment of Pippin and Targon's first meeting. I enjoyed Pippin's bemusement at the thought of all that weight on him, and of course he would not wish to suffocate his feet! ;) Pippin really was like a little ray of sunshine during those dark days, wasn't he? It's no wonder he became their "prince".
Author's reply
He was, I think, very like a "ray of sunshine", and a portent of better things to come. They could not help but be cheered up by him!
I remember the first time I ever picked up a friend's chain-mail hauberk, and asking him how the heck he could wear anything so heavy, much less fight in it, and he told me the part about weight being distributed over the body!

· Chapter 2: B: Like a Bathing Boromir
*sniff* How unfortunate that this scene couldn't have really taken place.
Author's reply
Oh, I dunno. I was imagining it as taking place only a day or so after the council, when they don't really know yet what's going to happen.

· Chapter 1: A: Like an Antagonistic Arwen
That's our Elanor. So like her parents and her Uncle Frodo, to be so forgiving and know that the teasing wasn't truly about her at all. And Arwen is rather scary when she's angry. I'm glad I wasn't that servant! And the servant has learned a valuable lesson about treating others with dignity and respect, no matter what their size.
Author's reply
She is a sweet and unassuming child, and she grew up with excellent examples of forgiveness and understanding.
I would think an angry Arwen would be very scary indeed! Galadriel wasn't her grandmother for nothing!
I sort of imagine that Elanor and Haleth might even grow to be friends now.

· Chapter 5: E: Like an Evil Elrond
Wow...you're doing an awesome job with these alphabets! I think it's cool how you can play with words like this. And the tales are fantastic. :-)
Of course an ill Frodo - himself nearly a Wraith - would perceive Elrond as something opposite, such as evil, someone to inflict pain. You've portrayed a very interesting view here.

Author's reply
It's a lot of fun to see what I can do with these prompts. The ones for "I" and "J" are going to be a bit difficult, I think...
It seemed to me that just swimming about in his delirium, he might see it that way. I was quite surprised when SurgicalSteel told me that it's realistic and not uncommon--that patients in surgery often will see the doctor as evil!

That indeed would be a horror for any of the Travellers to face! Then I think about "Silent Partners"....and I smile. I do apologise if I didn't get the title of that latter story right. :-(

I'm going to sneak in one more before I hit the hay...
Author's reply
Yes, it *was* "Silent Partners"! You remember correctly, yay!

· Chapter 7: G: Like a Gasping Galadriel
How very wonderful to think of Galadriel at that moment of all moments when all are engaged against the enemy, and then realizing that beyond all hope the Ring indeed was destroyed, and indeed all are free at last!
Excellent!
Author's reply
Yes; it was a totally unexpected moment, for up till then, the holders of the Three did not believe that it *could* happen that way, though they had dared to hope just a little, still they were *willing* to sacrifice them--and I think it was that very willingness that was honored.

Not a vision of Elrond that Frodo will treasure if he recalls it. Sometimes we really have no choice but to inflict pain in order to do good.

Hopefully, Frodo won't remember it. But, yes, sometimes that's true--and the one the pain's inflicted on may see it in the wrong way.

I don't know what else to say except: awww! Very sweet. It makes me smile to think that Faramir is just a little bit leery of both Eomer (and Eowyn). I imagine that they can both be quite fearsome when the mood takes them.

I'm glad you liked it. I think Faramir was mostly afraid something might go wrong--for some reason, guys are usually nervous when it comes to things like announcing engagements or weddings, LOL!
