I love this story! Of all the sons of Feanor, Maglor and Maedhros were the only ones I ever liked and even pities (especially Maglor)--the rest of his sons I didn't care for and some I even downright despised, about the same way I feel about Feanor himself.....but I digress.... Anyway, I love this story and how you bring their characters alive. Elros is one character that I don't know very well; it seems few people write about him, and even Maglor and Maedhros don't appear in too many stories, so I'm thoroughly enjoying this introduction to them! the story is getting very interesting, and I am definitely looking forward to more! Great job and thanks for sharing!

Poor Elros. He's worked out enough to be angry, without being entirely sure quite who he's angry with or why. Maedhros is, in many ways, much less forgivable than Maglor - but Maglor is Adar, and so it's bound to be his fault. I'm not surprised that Elrond is upset enough to run. It's not much fun to have your carefully balanced home falling to pieces around you. I'm not sure for whom I feel most sorry here.

What a wonderful story, French Pony! I'm very sad that I have to wait for more chapters.... I'm really wanting instant gratifcation on this one! I'm reading the Sil again (I got so lost the first time, I decided to give it another go.. it's a bit easier this time around, but not by much! LOL), and I don't remember the Battle of Sirion, so I'm looking for that to brush up on the boys history here to help me along. I've never seen Young!Elrond before... I like him! He's cute and cuddly, and so's Elros. What precious boys they are and what a heartbreak for his parents to lose. It's funny though: I don't seem to ever remember reading that either of them "pined for their children"... elves are a strange lot sometimes. At least to humans they are. ::wink:: I also am intrigued by the fact that Maglor and Maedhros are "uncles" and raising the boys, especially if "they" were part of the attacking party... (where is that stupid section? Must find it! LOL) Well, I certainly can't wait to read more from you, and hopefully I'll have a better/fresher idea of the history of this story when the next chapter is posted. Great job! God Bless, Dayna

Oh wow... you know, you always stun me with your writing, in all the best possible ways... but this is just wonderful, and I really needed to read something wonderful tonight. :-) Thank you! I am so afraid for all of them... Elros is being so angry and sad that I want to hug him... Elrond is being SO Elrond-ish, and the sons of Feanor are just magnificent and stunning... this is so well written, the characterizations are exquisite, and it feels SO very real!! I adore this. It is to this era what the King Stag story is to the Greenwood and little Legolas and mourning Thranduil: a realistic, brilliant portrayal of grief and confusion. Thank you SO very much!!!

Elros´youth and confusion come out so clearly! I love it when he cannot decide waht he wants and wants all things at the same time, a frightened child and a revenge'seeker and a survivor aware that they have ben sleeping with the enemy. His concerns are only too well founded, sadly, and the previous situation was quite unnatural for them, now that they know the truth.

Oh my, Elros finally opened the door to the closet and all the skeletons came tumbling out. And unfortunately, Elros is not too far from the truth, I think. The oath would mean their lives, should they stand in the way. A good chapter, FP. This had to be an extremely confusing time for the children.

Poor Elros. He's so confused and angry and upset, and he doesn't really understand the love he still has for Maglor. And Elrond doesn't understand *why* his twin is so confused and angry and upset - and now he's run off into danger. I hope you can resolve things soon - I'm worried about both twins! Jay

At least he has the proper stimulus to work himself out of the hysteria he's worked himself into--finding Elrond before Elrond comes to any serious harm in his own emotional hijacking. They do make a pair today, don't they? And I rejoice that Maglor was sufficiently in control to keep Maedhros from hurting Elros at his worst. A child's blows to an adult during a fit of such fear are likely to be far less harmful than an adult's to the child. And Maedhros has come around and is now once again the take-charge uncle who knows the right thing to do.

daw the minstrel · 29 January 2007 · Chapter 3: Cares Like A Wild Deluge Come

Poor Elros. I loved the lines where he thinks all the contradictory things he wants at the same time. Doesn't that just sum up so much of life?

Larner · 29 January 2007 · Chapter 2: Every Secret Of My Heart

Such anger can be difficult to deal with, but Maglor is right--something will come to allow Elros to release the anger and get the answers he needs to come to terms with his mixed love and anger at their guardian.

perelleth · 23 January 2007 · Chapter 2: Every Secret Of My Heart

It was a calm life these three led...but it was not meant to last, apparently. I am curious about what is actually worrying Elros, perhpas he fears one day he too will turn into a bird? The boys are delightful and I think Maglor truly deserved this short span of peace and homely tranquility.

meckinock · 23 January 2007 · Chapter 2: Every Secret Of My Heart

I'm enjoying the interaction between the boys, and their seemingly pleasant life with Maglor, although it's sort of seems like putting the wolf in charge of raising baby chicks. I might be a little worried too, if I were Elros.

Raksha The Demon · 22 January 2007 · Chapter 2: Every Secret Of My Heart

It's interesting that Elros is nervous of Maglor, who saved him and Elrond, but almost completely at ease and happy with Maedhros, who had threatened his and Elrond's life (and from whom Maglor saved them). Anger displacement, maybe? These kids would be a therapist's dream; but then, a psychiatrist would have a field day with all the Feanorians. Though, given Elros' nervousness about Maedhros' right arm, there's probably some memory of Maedhros' desire to kill them. Those poor kids; and poor Maglor, who is so enjoying raising them. I hope that if the twins do remember, or learn, all that happened at Sirion, they'll stay with Maglor until they're grown. Elrond is right, geese are not pleasant-tempered birdies.

Jay of Lasgalen · 22 January 2007 · Chapter 2: Every Secret Of My Heart

Oh, this is sad. For some reason I feel more sorry for Elrond than Elros - he can't understand why his twin is so miserable and unhappy. Jay

daw the minstrel · 22 January 2007 · Chapter 2: Every Secret Of My Heart

I liked the image of the bend in the river like a pregnant mare's belly. You have to feel for Elros. His relationship to the sons of Feanor has to be ambiguous and he's just starting to sort it out. Unfortunately, pain's going to come from it for a long time yet.

Bodkin · 20 January 2007 · Chapter 1: The Tatters Of Old Snows

Maglor makes a good substitute father. Elrond and Elros could have done worse. Considering the other options. But how can they really trust him once they are old enough to grasp more fully what was happening in Sirion and just how much responsibility he bears for their loss of their mother? Yet I still feel sorry for Feanor's sons - to a degree. They're in a hole they can't escape - even if they've spent their years east of the sea digging it deeper and deeper. I look forward to reading more!

Larner · 19 January 2007 · Chapter 1: The Tatters Of Old Snows

And Elrond remembers all too truly. Interesting brotherly experience.

jasta · 16 January 2007 · Chapter 1: The Tatters Of Old Snows

That was sad but lovely... I remember being similarly pained as a child to realize my mother had walked calmly away from me (tho she did not fly!) and dealing with everything that sort of baggage brings along. I wish I had had a twin to share it with! *g* You write children so well, which is a big deal for me. People who do not, and yet insist on doing so, drive me buggy... *g* Thank you for this insightful, sad, sweet story!

perelleth · 15 January 2007 · Chapter 1: The Tatters Of Old Snows

Poor twins, of course, but I am already enjoying a lot this look at their "brief" time together as children. Too soon they got separated and followed their separate apth, bt htere is that long period (for a human, at least) when the were together and knew nothing of their different dooms. THey are lively, perk and charming, as children that age sould be. THough I suspect that there is grief for all involved to come. A wonderful choice of subject, I am rubbing my hands! :-)

Nilmandra · 15 January 2007 · Chapter 1: The Tatters Of Old Snows

No matter what take you have of the tale of Elrond and Elros's start to life, it is sad. People hurt them, people used them, and ultimately people loved them. And in some cases, the same people did all of the above. In the end, the message these two received is that all stories are spun in one direction or another and the the truth lies somewhere in between. I do wonder how they learned to trust. I am glad to see them happy here, even if Maglor is burdened by guilt and sorrow.

meckinock · 15 January 2007 · Chapter 1: The Tatters Of Old Snows

LOL about Elrond and his cold feet. He and Elros are at a very cute age here; old enough to know things they're not supposed to and young enough to be very frank in discussing them. They have much bigger worries than kids their age are supposed to have, and trying to figure out where they fit into their caretaker's life and heart is the biggest one. But Maglor seems to be a pretty caring foster dad. It was really sweet to see them being tucked into bed, anyhow. And big awwww for "Ada is busy being a star."

Jay of Lasgalen · 15 January 2007 · Chapter 1: The Tatters Of Old Snows

That's very sweet. Although I write so much about Elrond's twins, I've read very little about him and Elros as children. This glimpse of them with Maglor is lovely - they make a very cosy family, despite the dark beginnings to their fostering. I love the close relationship between Elrond and Elros: 'Elros knew that, no matter what happened, he would wake in the morning with Elrond cuddled against him. But, by that time, the bed would be warm and cozy, so it did not matter so much.' That's a very sweet image!

daw the minstrel · 15 January 2007 · Chapter 1: The Tatters Of Old Snows

I have to admit all these ME stories about abandoned children just kill me. And I'm trying hard to sympathize with the Sons of Feanor, but I keep remembering the twins they abandoned in the woods. What were their names? Elur-something. I hope to goodness Maglor loves them because this would be too hard to take otherwise.
