This is a great story and was a very entertaining read. I love well-done hurt/comfort, and your story has all the parts for it, working together splendidly. Great characterisations and details, too. Thank you for this story!

Lazy me. I forgot to review this chapter.
I enjoyed the fitting tribute to Mornaur. I was hoping they wouldn't just leave him there.
I just about cried at Elrohir's confession of his feelings just before he made the decision to go into a trance. The fact that he was more worried about Elladan than about himself was really sweet.
I wonder if Elrond and Celebrian were able to feel anything when Elrohir fell. It would be interesting to know their feelings on the matter.
Finally, I hope Taniquel appreciates the fact that Elrohir almost got himself killed just to visit her. I don't think the two of them realize the magnitude of what is going on between them. I wonder which one of them will wise up first? I also wonder if she felt anything when he fell. If she did, I would think that would certainly indicate something deeper between them.

· Chapter 6: Questions And Answers
Glorfindel - a simple warrior. Yeah, right! I'm with Elladan there. But having a super-parental figure taking charge, tapping his nose and sorting out the problems must have been such a relief.
And once the twins start abusing each other - you just know things are getting back to normal. Thank goodness.
Author's reply
'Yeah, right!' was Elladan's reaction as well, but I couldn't phrase it quite like that :>) And Glorfindel - I could see him tapping his nose so clearly, but it seemed such an un-elvish thing to do. I had to explain that somehow.
It must be a relief for all concerned when the twins start insulting each other, especially Elladan and Elrohir themselves.
It's good to see you back, Bodkin. You must have been busy.

A nice ending. Elrohir and Elladan must only be able to mindspeak in desperate situations. Good thing for Elrohir. Glorfindel sure has good idead's, a bridge. You feel Elrohir's loss on his horse, as the smoke goes up in flame.
A great read..
Author's reply
I decided there had to be a desperate need for the mindspeak to work this time, as the twins have never been able to use it in other tales. It's as well it worked this time!

Very nice. Elladan in big brother mode, and Elrohir not being very patient. Glorfindel there to help as well.
A nice piece.

Sorry I'm late in replying!
I like to show Elladan in big brother mode - it's not often he can get away with it :>)
It's a good sign when Elrohir's an impatient patient. It shows he's feeling better!

I stated after chapter 1 that this was a riveting story and the rest did not disappoint. I missed a few chapters and was very glad to find the final one written and so, since it had been awhile, I printed the entire tale out and re-read it and then finished it. Well worth while! Great tale. Great tension. Great characterizations. Great ending.
Thanks for sharing this, Jay, it was great... Did I already say that? LOL - Truly was a taut, tense, terse read!
Author's reply
Great! :>)
I'm glad you enjoyed it, particularly the characterisations. I love these characters, and work hard to make them seem real and believable. Thanks for reviewing!

This is such a beautiful story, I am sad to see it coming to an end. But then again so glad that they are going home and that they're all safe. I am very, very fond of seeing Glorfindel in your tales! I love his interactions with the twins.
Actually... (and I say so with a deep blush on my face) ...in my own tales I have Glorfindel naming the twins 'elfling' too, something I just did and never really knew how I had come up with it. I just knew that I loved it very much. But now that I am reading your stories again (read them early last year, too), I begin to believe that it might have stuck and stayed in my mind from your work.
So all credit to you Jay!
This has been a moving story, funny, exciting, scary, sad, filled with such warm love and care and nurturing. I just can't get enough of your tales! I hope that you will write another one soon!!
Esteliel
p.s.: I am especially fond of "Never forget it, elfling." That just brought the widest grin to my face!!
Author's reply
In a way I'm sorry to see this end too, but at least it means I've only one story still in process.
I'm finding Glorfindel tends to push his way into stories where I don't intend him to be! I can't recall when he began calling the twins 'elflings', but I know I didn't start it. Was it Nilmandra? In any case, he is very fond of the twins, and regards them as the sons he never had.
Thank you for reviewing, and I'm glad you enjoyed the story!

You finished this! :-)
“Stop fussing, El! I can manage – can’t I, Nindamos?”
Nindamos sighed. “If you say so.” *grin* Poor Nindamos has not the slightest chance against a stubborn peredhil, hasn’t he?
Anyway, I was glad to see Elrohir up and on the way to recovery, and even more important, not alone and helpless any longer.
Interesting that the mindspeaking didn’t work this time, while it worked well and over such a great distance before. It seems there has truly to be a dire need for them to manage it.
The epilogue left me tearing up a bit, but it was beautiful. I can understand so *very* well that Elrohir loved Mornaur so much that he couldn’t bear the thought to leave his horse to the wolves and vultures. You gave the poor beast a dignified end.
Thanks for another lovely story!
Author's reply
Thank you for reviewing, and for picking out the parts you liked. Poor Nindamos is always a little wary around Elrohir (for reasons that go a long way back!)
As I've never written the twins as being able to mindspeak at any other time, this had to be a one-off occurance, driven by desperate need. Most of the time they don't need to mindspeak; they know each other so well they just understand the other's moods.
Finally, I'm glad you liked Mornaur's farewell. I just couldn't leave him on the bare mountain!

I love the relationship the twins have with Glorfindel. They're lucky to have him and his affection for them shines through, though he clearly is putting up with no nonsense.
A good ending, Jay.
Author's reply
I've always written Glorfindel as a friend and confidante to the twins, and a strict, stern captain when they were young warriors. There's a lot of love and respect on both sides.

Phew - the situation has improved appreciably! Glorfindel, a healer AND supplies. Now they just have to get Elrohir fixed enough to take him home. And Elladan's anatomical observations are very reassuring - even if he is still able to drug his bemused brother. (Still. Elrohir's not at his best and sharpest. Yet.)
Author's reply
No, Elrohir's still not at his best; but he's improving rapidly. He'll soon have a lot of questions for Elladan about how he came to find him.
I just love Glorfindel. Whenever I write him he just seems to leap onto the page and take over!

I am glad that at least they were under cover all this time, while words returned to you! :-) Seriusly, it was a long list of injuries and aches, Elrohir us truly battered this time, good that Glorfindel is there, or Elladan would have been in a very difficult situation. When ELrohir feels better he will love to hear how Elladan went away in search of him! :-)
Author's reply
I'd feel bad if poor Elrohir had been out on the mountainside for all this time! At least he's safe and cared for - and will have a lot of questions when he wakes up again.
Thanks for reviewing - and enjoy Epiphany!

Jay, that was such a great surprise to finally find an update of this story!
Though I had hoped it was ‚only’ Glorfindel, I am glad to know he *is* it. He seems to have been riding very fast to be here already. Now I feel much better for the twins.
Love the banter between the twins, Elrohir accusing Elladan of being a bully and all that – I think it is the first sign that Elrohir is getting a bit better.
Oh, I felt so sorry for Elrohir when he admitted he could not move his legs. Considering the circumstances, it is understandable that he didn’t think clearly and was so terribly worried. Poor guy. I am so glad Elladan was able to convince him all will be well, even if it takes a little while.
Now I hope you have your muses firmly locked up, so they can't escape and leave you with this alone again ;-)
Oh, and a Happy New Year to you!
Author's reply
A long overdue update, but it's here at last!
I love Glorfindel. I don't write him very often, but whenever he appears he just leaps onto the page and takes over as a tower of strength to everyone around him.
Poor Elrohir. I think most of us would fear the worst if we could not move after a fall like that. But if he can grumble at Elladan we know he'll be OK :>)
I'm tempting the muses with short snippets of writing to keep them happy. So far, it seems to be working!

Poor Elrohir! His thinking is not quite straight yet. It's cute that his grouchy attitude is the thing to let Elladan know there is no serious damage.
I think I recognize Ilmarin. Wasn't he in "A Journey of Discovery"?
Hopefully, Elrohir will be in a better mood once his leg is splinted and his back does not hurt so much. Such deep bruises could take a while to heal.
I wonder how they are going to get Elrohir home. It could be tricky when is he not able to move around much.
I think I particularly enjoyed the closing scene. Elrohir calling Elladan a toad was just priceless!
I wonder if Elrond and Celebrian could feel anything when Elrohir was hurt. If so, they must be frantic by now. Hopefully, Ilmarin will make it back quickly to tell them the good news.
I think the chapter was well worth the wait, and I will be looking forward to the next one. Hope you have a Happy New Year!
Author's reply
No, poor Elrohir still isn't thinking straight, or he'd have realised what Elladan was doing. With rest and sleep he'll soon recover, though - which is a good thing. As Elladan said, he makes a very bad patient! Calling Elladan a toad was quite mild considering what he might have said :)
That's well remembered about Ilmarin! I tend to recycle minor characters from other stories - after all, the same guards would be around for most of the time, and it saves the trouble of finding new names.

Oh! *jumps for joy*
I had been DYING for an update of this tale! Thank you, thank you, thank you! What a beautiful chapter! I am so glad that the presence outside the cave was Glorfindel - not wolves, or worse: Orcs! I had hoped it was Glorfindel, but my stomach was nonetheless in my throat, fearing it was something else!
It's good to see the banter between the brothers - poor Elrohir, having to have his leg splinted on top of all the pain he already has. I'm glad that Elladan drugged him!
It's such a relief to have Glorfindel there, too. When Glorfindel comes, it's like everything is going to be fine now.
Thanks again for updating this tale, Jay! Might I ask for more soon?
Happy New year!

Eeeeeeek!!!
Just when all was warm and cosy...a cliffhanger!! I love it!! The rest of chapter meandered wonderfully! I could sense Elladan's worry ease gradually through the chapter. A nice sense of well-being wound itself was through the chapter. The efforts at the two children trying to mindspeak was very amusing, and you get the feeling that that is exactly what Elladan and Elrohir as children would do! LOL!! Really enjoying the story!

Thank you! I wanted to contrast Elrohir's struggle to survive and Elladan's desperate search in the earlier chapters with the relative calm now they're together, and Elrohir is safe and cared for. Of course, the story isn't over yet ...

Finally, I have a chance to sit down and read this. Elrohir looks like he's going to survive, although he's in pretty bad shape right now. But Elladan is right -- they were tremendously lucky. He's a good tracker, and Elrohir is one tough mutha. Even right now, they're lucky. They've got the cave, they've got the fire, and if their visitor turns out to be unfriendly, they also have the strong defensive position.
Author's reply
Elladan has Mushroom to help him, too. It wouldn't be too hard to knock an opponent off the path and down the cliff, even if Elrohir isn't able to fight just yet.

· Chapter 4: Rest In Peace
Having Elrohir there, sleeping, warm and (relatively) safe - Elladan must be so relieved! But even then - they are not in the safest of positions. I can't imagine they have enough fuel to last very long - and Elladan dashed there at such speed that he can't have brought much in the way of supplies. I hope Glorfindel gets there with the Imladris Mountain Rescue squad before whatever ominous event threatened in the last paragraph turns into something more dangerous. Elrohir is in no physical condition to run!
Author's reply
The mere fact of being together again after such a close shave is reassuring for both the twins. Now that Elrohir's injuries have been treated, the best medicine for him is the simple fact that Elladan is there. And for Elladan, he knows that although his brother is badly injured, he *will* recover.
Elladan has enough emergency supplies for a day or two, and at least there is plenty of snow for water! Glorfindel is on his way - and he may be closer than you realise.

Sometimes it is good to be so far behind in reading. At least that way I get to read four chapters at once and know they are together again. But of course I still have an evil cliffie! :-) Wow, this is great. The description of the environment is really vivid and the tension is great.
Author's reply
I'm glad you've caught up with the story! Thanks for reviewing, and especially for your comments on the descriptions and tension. I wanted readers to feel Elrohir's isolation and helplessness and Elladan's desperation.
